Acknowledgment

I was overwhelmed by all of your comments to my confession post.  Individually and cumulatively it was like I received the most appropriate acknowledgement I’d ever received – certainly more powerful and more appropriate than anything  anyone could pay big bucks for in the church.

I was reminded of a passage in the State of Man series:

All right.  If we’re going to have anything connected whatsoever with a third dynamic, then it must be that the people in Scientology will have to have both the technology and the opportunity to be Clear, and should get there. But there’s evidently now something new about clearing.  There is a stage of clearing, of getting Clear, which is getting Clear on the third dynamic before they get Clear on the first.

Now, I’ve told you for a long time that auditing was a third dynamic situation. And sure enough, we have to clear somebody on the third dynamic before we clear him on the first. And all those case failures that we have had to this time have been because we’ve been trying to clear people on the first before we cleared them on the third. Do you see that?

An auditor-preclear situation is a third dynamic situation.  That’s a third dynamic situation. And clearing a person starts right there in that auditing session. Now, any HCA can tell you better than I can – I think the number of the Auditor’s Code is 9, though, isn’ it? Isn’t that it?  Whichever one it is. It’s “two-way comm must be established.” It’s a breach of the Auditor’s Code actually. We’ve had it with us for years. But what did this mean?

Well, this meant, essentially, that the preclear had to be willing to talk to the auditor. Well now, several things have to be guaranteed before this takes place. And one of the things that has to be guaranteed is that the preclear has some security in talking to the auditor that the information will not be falsely used. Isn’t that right?

audience: Yes.

So this leaves us with an organizational responsibility heavier and bigger than we have ever had in the past. We’ve now got to go all out and make sure that a certificate means, wherever it is to be found, that confidence can be reposed in the person as a confidant. Isn’t that right?

audience: Yes. Uh-huh.

That organizationally, the information passing over organizational channels and so forth is inviolate — we have to be able to guarantee that, right?

audience: Right.

Of course, as we all know by now, the C of M has reversed that concept right around to where institutionally the church is programmed to use information falsely against its own people.

And then came the realization that, notwithstanding lack of structure or seniors and juniors, we have a third dynamic as the Old Man envisaged.  We have people connected around the world who understand what it takes to create as-isness, who understand and live the Auditor’s Code (without effort), and who in fact constitute a third dynamic that makes Clearing possible and consequently has infinitely more potential than the MEST-laden, money motivated house of extortion.

Before the St Pete Times ever ran, and I first heard of DM’s absurd “deny everything” defense, I mentioned to Mike Rinder that the only way out for Miscavige was for him to take a measure of responsibility for the felonious conduct we were attempting to have ceased.  I also mentioned it to Anderson Cooper in a segment that didn’t make the cut. I told Anderson that the prediction was based on a fundamental Scientology principle, a principle that Kentucky basketball coach Rick Pitino had then-recently very succinctly stated in layman terms. Pitino was accused of having an affair. Rather than deny it, he held a press conference and made a clean breast of it.  He said “if you tell the truth, it becomes your past; if you lie, it becomes your future.”

I think we are hurtling into the future , while those behind the wall cling to the past.

All because you cats know your stuff and live by it.

The funny thing is that your ack above is so good that I have nothing to say. Onward! And that’s as it should be.

  2. Amen, brother! One of the precepts we raised our children with was lie about an overt and you are in twice as much trouble than if you make a clean breast of it. Feels so much better for the teller and the listener.

Reading the responses to your confession again made me so grateful we have been off lines for so many years and have not subjected ourselves to the gross out tech that is apparently rampant on lines (taking back forgiveness??? what kind of nonsense is this anyway??? and what kind of auditor would agree to say these words to a pc???).

Marty, Vic and I are behind you 100% and your confession and the way you manage your blog daily reinforces our perception of your integrity and determination to right the wrongs the current COM perpetuates. If we can help you in any way, you have our email address…ML to you and Mosey, Vic and Vicki

You’re so on-point with this post, Marty. One of the biggest reasons I won’t get auditing through any established Church of Scientology, is because Ive had my personal confessions divulged to close friends of mine in an attempt to disparage my character. In addition, Ive been in personal conversations with seasoned MAAs in which they spread negative information of my friends from their PC folders.

It’s gone so far that Senior HCO staff members, in an attempt to recruit my best friend, opened up his wife’s PC folder for him to peruse and persuade him to divorce her and join.

    It’s atrocious.

  4. Clinton smoked pot but “didn’t inhale”.

Yeah…..right! And that story stuck around his campaign long into his future.

Obama admitted to smoking pot from the get-go and it was instantly a non-story.

Wise. Not always easy. But much more so in the long run.

    Let’s move on, baby!

  5. Outstanding reference!

Once again I’m reminded of why I’ve been reading this blog so addictively for a year now.

Your actions, and your constant resolution to use actual source material, are nothing if not bright sunshine.

    Thanks again.

  6. Hip, Hip to the future!…great reference. One gets more with truth than with lies.

  7. one of those who see

A perfect post, Marty. I have Scientology back. This is what I have wanted. I don’t yet know if I will continue in processing and training in the Independent field or eventually return to a Reformed Church. But, I feel like there is much more of a chance of making it all the way now. This is so exciting. What a wonderful group of beings. I am so happy you are all here.

  8. Marty, You are so correct. And it’s not because we have to follow certain principles as LRH laid them out for us to see. It’s because when we use those principles it just plain feels right. No think. No pausing. It simply is Truth. And that’s what we are. (WOW, just blew out!)

Gee… cogs and exteriorization.. I LIKE!!!

See how you are, Marty! LOL 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Love,
    Gary

  9. I think a little session time would be warranted to sort out why Marty, on the verge of providing supposedly credible evidence re DM, would choose to put his credibility at stake by such a series of actions.

  10. You mentioned earlier that you were going to release some data that would cause Camera Operator Boy to howel.

    Good. Let it fly.

There are a lot of us to watch your back.

    You just do your thing.

    Wow, man.

That statement by Pitino is one of the most profound I’ve ever heard.

It creates a conundrum for the C of M on the order of “That which you resist you shall receive… or become”

The downfall of all vested interests is the stupidity of self importance. They don’t realize that they are not necessarily the be-all and end-all for any product. Or that the product itself is not necessarily the be-all and end-all of the subject. They wind up alienating their customers with unreasonable demands for fealty. Others then take the product and provide it to it’s customers at a better exchange rate. Simple.

Thanks for making the truth fashionable again, Marty.

  12. Thanks for being who you are.

Interesting is the fact that you were willing to come back to DM’s world at a point you could have refused (your trip to Freewinds) ONLY TO GET THE TRAINING YOU DID. Good investment you did, now paying off big time.
Glad you did it all, and thanks for what you are doing now.

There are a whole lot of people who’ve got your back that you don’t even know. You are for real and really appreciated.

  13. Hi. It was an interesting post.

I hope you will forgive me for entering a new subject, but I thought you might be interested to know about this, or might pass it on to anyone who should know about this. You don’t have to print this on your blog.

Hi. The Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology of Washington State in Seattle, WA will be held at 300 West Harrison Street, Seattle, WA 98119 on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 3:00 P.M.

This is to celebrate the opening of their new Seattle Org Building.

It is unknown at this time if there will be any protesters or anonymous there.

Thank for the ack. It’s a real joy to be able to communicate to so many auditors, in which group I include all posters here who with 2-way comm and the ability to ‘listen’ help each other blow the charge that gets continually bypassed by the antics of the church. Thanks for supplying the ‘auditing room.

  15. How could I add to this post? Other than to say that any leader should be cautioned about the voracious appetites of his supporters.

Perhaps without meaning to, your followers and supporters can devour you.

This is why a 3rd dynamic must be organized, otherwise heroes like Marty will be chewed up.

Unless and until Marty can walk on water and change water into wine, a 3rd dynamic, organized and hatted, must be there to divide the labor.

Note that Jesus could purportedly do those things, yet where did HE wind up?

Merely adoring Marty/despising Miscavige is an insufficient organizing principle. If you really love Marty and the goals of Scientology – help him organize a 3rd dynamic.

Mayo staged a lot of fun barbecues in Santa Barbara – but he was annihilated by better organized and financed opponents.

God is on the side of the artillery. If you want Marty to succeed, send him money (lots of it!) and personnel.

Otherwise, this is just another naive “feel-good” enterprise. I admire Marty – he is the only high-ranking church officer who backed me up in a family crisis many, many years ago. He himself probably does not remember this small scalke event; nonetheless, such was the impression he made on me, I have followed his career ever after, and noted nearly exactly when he disappeared off the radar screen.

    I salute him…and I caution him.

Don’t be naive – there is no cosmic umpire that protects innocents.

Scientology, the real honest deal, does make a safe environment where honest and able beings can prosper.

You have contributed to my understanding of and renewed ownership in Scientology, the real and honest deal.

  17. Thought Provoking

I joined staff when I was in the middle of NED. The most wonderful thing was happening to me, I was so keyed out that I couldn’t sleep at night and it took all of my intention to handle the body each day so that I could get in session the next. I completely trusted my auditor and together we peeled away at the layers of reactive mind. With my increased KRC for the results of auditing, it wasn’t hard to imagine what kind of society we would have without the reactive mind in constant restim. My wins were so huge it rekindled my desire to work at the church, something I hadn’t done in almost 20 years. And for a while, I did just that, starting out part time until I had completed the steps needed before going full time. I was trying to be realistic about the dramatic pay reduction and worked out a handle so that I was able to handle my living expenses, completely independant of the org’s FP. The one thing I didn’t want to happen was to have constant PTPs because of finances.

I was in complete exhileration about what I was doing in life, back on purpose and being effective. It was fun and we played production games. Our division was constantly having parties and celebrating their successes. Our offices were right up front in public view so everyone, staff and students, could see us having fun and sometimes people would just come hang out with us. I never had mandatory call-in for an hour each day in our small dumpy building. People came because they wanted to be there. It was filled with theta.

My org had already realized the necessity of owning their own building and had been working on it for some time. We were doing it to handle our crowded dumpy quarters and to secure our future by being landlords rather than tenants in a very expensive real estate market. The public fully backed the idea, including the financials of making it happen. Mind you, this was pre Ideal Org evolution. We found our building just about the time the Ideal Org program had started producing its first products. Then bit by bit came the bypass from Int Landlord on what was okay and not okay in our building and it became a fight to keep it as our creation. We tried as much as we could to keep it ours but in truth it had been stolen from us. It was about this time that I noticed the change in the atmosphere of the org. Things started to get more and more serious. There were more and more missions in the org for long periods of time. The emphasis was no longer on service and delivery but on handling random and dispersed compliances uplines. Ethics actions were severe and for the first time I became aware that session security no longer existed. In a two year period I had seen the very best and worst in tech application, personally. Not only did the org not make it safe to go up the bridge but they invalidated those who had already gone Clear with wild abandon. So, I guess you could say the church was “going more solid” in front of me.

It was my certainty that time, place, form and event results in as-isness and my certainty on the ARC triangle that helped me to confront the fact that these things were no longer in existance in my org. Every smile was forced, the anxiety was palpable and there I sat stuck in the trap until I decided, not this time…and walked away.

This blog and its community is the perfect expression of what I experienced as a pc and as a staff member in our overcrowded dumpy little building. I look forward to reading it every day and I love hearing about you and Mosey and Mike and Christie and every other person on this blog. You have given us a game to play, once again my spirits have been lifted.

    Hi Marty,

I have been away from the computer taking care of a few things. But your recent posts have been very timely.

I have always wanted to be part of a group where they actually grant beingness and help you to get better. I left the current church of mestology because I knew it was no longer safe and that they didn’t really know how to create OT’s.

I also knew that if the organization would use your data given in sec checks against you it would cut the comm line and true case gain would realy no longer happen.

My local Org and a couple of Flag/OSA MAA’s are currently running around spreading lies about me to others in the area that used to call me friend.

I still have lots of friends who are in the area who DO have integrity and I am meeting lots of new friends thanks to you Marty and all the others helping.

Thanks so much for being there and not being afraid to communicate. I would let you audit me anytime.

Also if the locals keep spreading dirt on me I may start telling some of their dirt.

The local OSA rep and some other execs in the area may not know it but I do know a few things about them that I did not hear in session or a sec check that I may start sharing with others if they don’t stop telling lies about me. I was once an “opinion leader” and everyone “loved me” when I was spending my cash donating to all of their phoney causes. Now I am a hideous SP?

My recommendation to them is for them to stop committing present time overts and get honest and straight. They may think it is safer to stay on the side that their on, but it will catch up with them very soon I believe.

    ARC,
    Tony DePhillips

  19. this is what you are doing, your com gets stronger too, krc then arc then arc it becomes much easier when you are on purpose, thus present events and prior.

  20. I completely agree, the past, although important to know of and digest, is irrelevant.

Aren’t we sick of repeating it yet? I say yeah, we probably are.

I’m all for pushing forward to create the future.

  21. OK, this is for Marty and Mosey, but it is also about any true 3rd dynamic, whether you call it auditing, therapy or just life and living.

I come back to the place you are

    in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
    in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don’t like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

    in your eyes

  22. Martin Gibson

I missed yesterdays post as I was creating a new 2d (some fine home cooking and red wine made it a 36 hour cycle, lucky me) and after just reading it I have 3 things to say. 1 keeping it real… Awesome. 2 hahahahahahaha 3 its happened to me twice, I even got driven home once the next morning cause the tequila was still treating my brain like a boxer treats a speed bag. PS: I think when Isaac Hayes envisioned Scientology becoming cool he may have rubbed a little magic off on you.

  23. No doubt. Keep the good tunes coming my friend.

  24. Thanks for that Marty. I have been racking my brains to remember the tape I heard on the BC about the sanctity of the auditing session and that if you ever violate that trust, you have lost it all. This quote will work. Any question I ever had about whether I would ever go in session with the CofM was vanquished when they (CofM) gave confessional data to the press.

  25. I watched this with my best friend tonight and I just really liked the knight’s oath… It has something to do with all this;

    THE KNIGHT’S OATH

“BE WITHOUT FEAR IN THE FACE OF YOUR ENEMIES.

BE BRAVE AND UPRIGHT THAT GOD MAY LOVE THEE.

SPEAK THE TRUTH, ALWAYS, EVEN IF IT LEADS TO YOUR DEATH.

    SAFEGUARD THE HELPLESS.

    DO NO WRONG.

    THAT IS YOUR OATH…

    (slaps hard on the face)
THAT IS SO YOU’LL REMEMBER IT
    RISE A KNIGHT!”

  26. Marty ~

I have received an avalanche of private mail
You are hailed as a good, decent and honest man.
You have seen the wrong in the church and you are trying to right it, you saw the perversion of LRH tech and are trying stop it.

You have surrounded yourself with positive energy, so many good friends. Huge huge amounts of them.

It was LRH who said (Paraphrased) he counted his riches by how many friends he had….

Nice way to count richness and wealth.

Marty, you are very very *RICH* !

  27. Absolutely true statements.

I feel honesty and straightness are basic qualities that are very close to a being. And thus they cannot be faked.

I have thrown away the Scientology dissemination drill because I don’t like manipulative methods. I talk about my good and bad experiences in Scientology instead, very openly, and without any intention to “convince” someone. And you know what ? A number of people becomes interested in Scn. And they make statements like “seems like the corrupt roman catholic church – they also forced people to leave it and create something better”.

In my book straight honesty communicates like nothing else.

  28. Impartial English Girl

Wise words, Mr. R. There is absolutely no point whatsoever of making a clean breast of things if you are keeping something back. If that is the case, at the end of the day, the only person I’m lying to is myself.

Your honesty about even the less-attractive areas of your life (and, let’s face it, we ALL have them tucked away somewhere), serve to highlight even more what a lying, manipulative little gitwizard Miscavige is. I wonder how many decades it has been since HE was open and truly honest with anyone?

  29. Theo Sismanides

    Marty, yes! Yes, yes!

I take your ack now on the 3rd dynamic. Never read that excerpt from State of Man Series but it makes sense.

We had here Ignazio who audited us. And some years ago there came Max Hauri and audited us, too. We trusted them and trust them in that confidence. They are Auditors abiding by the code of the Auditor. We have had case gains here in Greece, the 4-5 people we were audited and we are again now able to create a 3rd dynamic.

I confessed to Ignazio things I, personally, thought non optimum for me. That was the best thing ever, for me. I had someone and one knowledgeable in ethics and technology listen to me. I was not stuck with the past, I moved into the future. Just by those little confessions. Ignazio was getting me back to life, back in communication with my wife and mainly myself.

This I think is a great gift and a great chance and Responsibility we ALL share now.

Miscavige as a problem is just a shadow compared to the real problems of life and the suppression going on around. Creating a third dynamic and going clear on it, is a big deal. Ron is right. How can you do anything if the guy is not clear on the 3rd dynamic so he can be with people, talk to auditors, keep confidence or be willing to talk about his case.

Miscavige has destroyed the very essence of our philosophy. Trust. There is no trust with this guy. As I said in another post, he is playing Poker, bluffing all the way and amassing money and power while the rest we think we are doing Scientology. He is just bluffing and making sure he gets power (mest, money, resources of robotically loyals staff and parishioners) out of Scientology. This is the bluffing. We think he is doing Scientology, while he is destroying it.

Imagine now all the Globe. All of those wonderful people here on this blog! It is amazing how much theta there is here! And what we can do in the future.

My strong point has been the third dynamic. Even the symbol of the Sea Org with the 3 seagulls moving up on the Sea Org emblem says it: It’s a third dynamic that keeps one on the path up the Bridge. But not a false 3rd Dynamic, not one created with duress but one which is created with theta. No structure ever will be superior to function. And here we have function, even if it is just the basic function of communicating the Truth. Things happen after this basic, basic is really IN.

And on this you have succeeded big time because the burden of hiding or suppressing the Truth when one knows Scientology is TOO much. You had your share of this under Miscavige. Now there is no Miscavige above us. There is no one above us. There are no seniors and juniors here. It’s a new “form”. I don’t know where it will lead us but certainly this is the future… It’s like a web and there is a hub in the centre of it. Let’s put it this way Marty: we are making this web type of organization and you are very close to the Hub.

Now Hub-bard might be the bard of the Hub and we can now have many Bards of the Hub, even via the Web.

We are creating something new which is leading us into the future.

  30. Theo Sismanides

And the proof of what we are doing is just here, I saw this as I opened my e-mail right after my communication here and I got this e-mail by a person I met through YouTube:

Hello! How are you doing? Wow all the way over in Greece? I hear it is a beautiful country. I’m from Florida.

I have indeed heard of Marty Rathbun and Mike Rinder and my current auditor is also acquainted with them. I went to the website you gave me and I was surprised to see Silvia Kusada’s blog as one of the links. I met her just 2 weeks ago in Los Angeles, we have the same auditor! Small world after all.

Anyway I am rather new to SCN still and am currently looking for a place to do my TRs and objectives. Are you still going up the bridge as well? I’m eager to start my journey up the bridge and can’t wait to go clear and eventually OT.

    Keep in comm,
(name of the person, which I am keeping confidential)

  31. Speaking about confessions, yesterday after reading your post I read trough most of the articles about you, Mike and Tom on freedommag.org.

The leaders of the so called church has once again showed that they can not be trusted. I mean, publishing the confessions of former staff members whith the purpose of discredit them! Who will ever feel safe enough in their hands to allow auditing to happen?

The only pluspoint is that OSA through their web site makes it easier for me to introduce scientology friends to the crimes of Miscavige. Many do not want to read “entheta” on the net, so I always start with referring them to freedommag.org

Re your little adventure: Couldn´t care less, meaning: I love people like you, that have a life and are living it fully, even if the price now and then is spending a night in jail, ha, ha. Take care though, cause we need you.

    I remain yours truly,
    Tintin

PS. It´s totally fine with me if you decide not to post this comment. Maybe we should not educate OSA too thoroughly about the outcome of their utterly stupid efforts.

  32. Felicitas Foster

    Hey Marty,
excellent quote – and thanks for the compliment:
All because you cats know your stuff and live by it.
    Love,
    Felicitas

  33. Thanks for the ack back, Marty. Never think you’re not a decent person. You are one of the few I’d go into to battle with. And live to tell the tales while quaffing beer and ale.

I appreciate the quotes you always have, but, although I loved the old man’s talk (especially for the comparative perspective it gives today), I really enjoyed reading the quote from Pitino.

It makes good sense – something the C of M has long since given up on.

    Chris

  34. I’m wondering if DM is capable of taking “responsibility” for what he has done. I’m not trying to be catty or snide or snarky, here. I’m just curious about the technical feasibility.

LRH wrestled with the this problem, probably till the day he died. It seems that Super Power was an attempt to raise a staff member’s awareness sufficiently to increase his/her responsibility levels so the job could get done. It’s one thing to say, “When Joe Blow takes responsibility for blah-blah, all will improve.” But, the real question is how do you get Joe Blow to do that?

If taking responsibility were some magic postulate, some sudden understanding then I’m sure LRH would have discovered it and applied it to all staff so the orgs would have functioned better. And some orgs did run pretty smoothly–relatively speaking. But no org ran with sufficient efficiency to establish a zone of control over their entire town or city. Not even St Hill under LRH.

So, we’re back to responsibility, which is willingness to be knowing cause. Yet, DM is willing to knowingly cause all this harm and havoc. His effects are not accidental.

And that leads us to what makes the difference.

LRH talked about caring. How orgs should care. How individual staff should care. Examination of successful orgs would probably expose this element of caring.

Does anyone think that DM cares? That he will suddenly care that so many lives, relationships, hopes and fortunes were destroyed under his watch? Can a person who does not care suddenly gain the capacity to care?

I know that relative IQ can be improved. I don’t know that native intelligence can be improved. Auditing will get rid of impediments to that native intelligence, but a natively stupid thetan will most likely remain stupid. He might function better and understand life better, but he’ll most likely remain a bit dull.

Just as we can measure the capacity for intelligence, we should be able to measure the capacity to care. You might even say that this capacity is the basis of social IQ. The capacity to care is a type of intelligence, which some have in far greater measure than others.

Just as some have greater measure of mathematical intelligence or musical or linguistic or logical or any other type of intelligence.

Just as some beings are much larger and more powerful.

You can not make a weak and tiny thetan into a huge and powerful one. LRH wrote about the disparate ratio of small beings to big. There’s just a difference.

But, size of being is not the same as the capacity for intelligence of a thetan, or the capacity for caring of a thetan. You can have large beings who are very intelligent, but don’t care. Or are stupid and don’t care. Or, you can have tiny beings who are intelligent and caring, but lack the potential to exert change. You get all sorts of combinations and variations of these things.

    Which makes us all different.

Which makes me wonder about DM. If he had the capacity to care, wouldn’t he?

In Science of Survival, we find the concept of theta to entheta ratios. The more entheta, the more down-tone a being is. But, an odd phenomenon threw a curve into completely predicting human behavior based solely on emotional tone level. You could have a big being who was operating consistently below 2.0 yet acting responsibly towards others. You’d find this down-toned individual with enormous amounts of entheta, but with enough free theta to still care about others and their well being.

Then, you’d find someone with all this apparently free theta acting towards others with ferocious ill will.

Theta-traps and implants did not originate from stupid beings operating even as low as the human band of 4.0. These beings were relatively high-toned compared to humans. They were just operating with a different set of goals, a different set of priorities. They operated with a high level of causation. If you doubt that, look around at the effects they caused. Effect follows cause.

THE MEASURE OF THE EFFECT IS THE MEASURE OF THE CAUSE.

So, back to DM and his effects. He’s causing far reaching effects. And it’s a bunch of destructive effects. Which make us believe he’s down-toned and cowardly and a lot of other things. And evidence might prove that he is cowardly and down-toned. But, he certainly is dynamic. He’s certainly causing effects.

    Knowingly causing these effects.

    Controlling these effects.

Which leads me to suspect that he’s operating at the approximate response level of his native KRC. I suspect that if you got him to native state, he would still choose to operate at this level of KRC, where he is in knowing control of all other beings–and his concept of responsibility would center around a willingness to cause any effect necessary to bring others under that knowing control.

So, we might deem it important for DM to gain some measure of “responsibility” for his actions and for the harm he’s caused, but perhaps he already has. It’s just that he defines it differently. Perhaps he has a different set of values by which he judges the success of his causation.

Perhaps, in the end, we will discover that not only didn’t he care for the well being of any person under his control, he lacked the capacity to care. And lacking the capacity to care, he created all the havoc that he did.

And given another chance, he would once again operate out of principles native to his basic personality.

    Just some thoughts.

    Michael

  35. Wow, DM CERTAINLY studied this LRH reference. Knows it frontwards and especially, BACKWARDS!

  36. Hi Marty, I just read about your adventure, you reminded me of some of mine!
The passage you quote from is right on, if you can’t talk to your group who can you talk to.
Just like in the small villages of old in England, you tell one person and before long they all know. Problem and withold poof! gone for good.
    Thanks for telling me Marty

  37. Excellent Marty (and “Billy”)!

There are no substitutes for living, It is good to be alive with friends like you. Nothing like the real deal.

    Love,

  38. I think me and ” the old man” would have clashed enormously, to be even more precize: I KNOW so. I can see me lying in the water.

But it does not refrain me from posting this.

“There is only one way, really, to get into a state of living, and that’s live! There is no substitute for an all-out, over-the-ramparts, howling charge against life. That’s living. Living does not consist of sitting in a temple in the shadows and getting rheumatism from the cold stones. Living is hot, it’s fast, it’s often brutal! It has a terrific gamut of emotional reactions.
If you are really willing to live, you first have to be willing to do anything that consists of living. Weird. But it’s one of those awfully true things that you wonder why one has to say it. And yet it has to be said.”

    L. Ron Hubbard

  39. Doc "Smith"

Michael, I agree to some extent, but also take a look at ARC, If a thetan has empathy, or the ability to be the other being or ‘step in his shoes’, then he will have that measure of caring. An SP is basically in the fear/terror band, where all are out to get him so he is unwilling to be anyone alse, so can’t care. If the being is pulled out of the incident he’s stuck in there’s a good chance he will revert to someone who can have ARC. IMHO. I haven’t run the SP rundown on anyone yet so only have theoretical ideas on this. Maybe you have more firsthand knowledge in the area.

Raindog, In another lecture, same series, he says words to the effect of: the only reason we exist at all is because we can be trusted with people’s secrets.

    Tony,
You still are an OL. You are an OL much farther and wider than just the Seattle area. Someone from your area has written to me about the attack you are under personally. Brother, please please realize the harder they come the greater the acknowledgement of your power and influence. The harder they come the greater the acknowledgment of your ability and potential. Don’t ever forget that. A woman from another country just sent me this poem. Tony it is tailor made for you right now:
    IF
    Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

    If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
    And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run –
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

Tony, kick ass, take names, and don’t take any shit from anybody!
And if you need reinforcements, don’t hesitate to holler.

  42. Hi Marty,

    Thanks for the continuing adventure.

Two quotes from William Shakespeare with the first to you and the second regarding dm:

“No legacy is so rich as honesty”

“O, what a goodly outside falsehood hath!”

You got integrity man. Glad to know ya!

    Tom

  43. If Anons & protesters didn’t know before (sure they did) they most certainly do now! 🙂

  44. “The old must give way to the new, falsehood must become exposed by truth, and truth, though fought, always in the end prevails.”

  45. Thought Provoking

I admire you greatly for what you are doing! You are setting such a good example of the Code of Honor to all of the key enablers out there. I only wish that other OLs in the church would join you in confronting the truth and true purposes of Scientology. Thank you for what you are doing, my postulates are with you.

  46. To my good friend, Tony DePhillips:

Strictly IMHO, you ought to send a Non-Enturb order to the local DSA (you know who).

It could read as follows, or, something of similar ilk:

“If my wife or I recieve just one more report from any public that falsities and generalities (listing the specifics), are being shown to my friends, still on lines, in an effort to tarnish my reputation and dissolve decades of hard work I have put in toward helping the Scientology religion, I am afraid that we will go ballistic in reaching out to on-lines individuals and spreading the truth.”

Wow! It felt good to write that. Because our DSA is a real bitch!

    🙂
    ARC,
    IO

  47. Tony,

Also, I had a major cog on what Marty wrote when he said that the harder they come, the bigger you must be.

    Boy is that spot-on.

As you know, I’m not interested in ass-kissing but you scare the shit out of people in the cult….uh….church, because you blurt out truth, overtly. Since I first met you, somewhere back in the early 90’s, you’ve always just been a no-BS individual and that just won’t do in the circus tent.

In the last year, you’ve helped me grow a pair. I can tell. Really. I’m being more myself every day now.

I think you might be doing some more work in that direction for many others, shortly after our Ponzi Scheme….uh….Grand Opening, is finished this next Saturday.

My father (whom you know and who is my most trusted source in life, period), told me yesterday that in p/t, the courseroom has an average of 6 public and about 18 brand new staff at any given time. Many of these are young teenagers who don’t even know what the word “Scientology” means, as my dad is discovering when asked to do check outs on some of them for their Staff Statuses!

Many staff are literally being “imported” into our area, according to the head recruiter, who just begged my pops to join, yet again, in a new unit of time, saying “Why don’t you help us! We are having to import people because there just aren’t enough of them here!”

The above is all true, unfortunately.

And, if you can read between the lines, what all of this will lead to in the coming months is a mass exodus of directionless, money-less, frustrated, un-trained staff, and probably some public, too.

I think Marty’s stats are about to go up, here in the NW.

    Get ready!

    IO

  48. As the rest of us who post here, I am so thankful that you ARE:
    BEING THERE AND COMMUNICATING.

If LRH is watching, I’m sure he’s mighty proud of you, Marty.

  49. Mark Fisher

Thanks for the acknowledgement Marty, but none was needed. I agree completely with Karen’s post here.

For many years after leaving, there were those of us on the outside who would talk about how no real change was going to happen in Scientology until someone like you or Mike Rinder were to escape as well and then tell all that you know. You know where the skeletons are buried.

Then we heard you were out and then Mike and we again thought, if only they start speaking out. We didn’t even know where you were. Some even believed you were dead.

There were many before who tried to expose what DM was doing and you know as well as anyone that they were heavily attacked by OSA and Scientology and eventually moved away under the pressure. The names are numerous and I salute their brave efforts and they are not forgotten.

Then Marc Headley started leading the way as Blown for Good on the Internet and several others pitched in as well like John Peeler, Tory Christman and several others.

This movement called Anonymous came on the scene and like it or not, they became a major driving force in exposing what was going on internationally in the C of M.

But then you came on the scene Marty along with your other friends and started speaking out and the momentum that has built up over the past year has 5.4xed the amount of pressure on DM and change is moving forward. What once was a hope for the future is becoming more and more a reality.

So it is not surprising to me the amount of support you are getting Marty when you make a minor misstep. We all have made them. Some of us have made major ones. But realize that we all have your back now.

With what you and Mike and others behind the scenes are doing, change is on the way for real. If DM did not fear this, he wouldn’t be putting in so much effort into stopping it.

And after all, DM no longer has people as competent as Marty and Mike anymore to fight his fight.

They are on our side now and I am sure causing countless sleepless nights for the insane asshole we call DM.

  50. Chris Black

    Hey TP,

That is SO spot on! It’s exactly the cycle the orgs I was in went through. Both destroyed by obtuse missions trying to get compliance to some obscure order that had nothing to do with service delivery. And yes, it became more solid. How do you ask a missionaire if there was an earlier similar incident? 🙂

When I queried GAT as an off-policy out-tech program that was in fact violating HCOPL Tech Degrades, the answer I got back was a comm ev with trumped up charges. Interesting Q & A.

DM and current management are laying in engrams and case and bank. As Ron says, that is the WORST kind of auditor ever, one who creates more case in session than they do by erasing case.

    It’s good to be Free.

  51. I liked the OT oV III view you speak a few truths there I must say

  52. Excellent com karen spot on good work marthy

  53. It was putting a smile the way you expressed it so direct

  54. Cat, I really think ‘the old man’ might surprise
you. As long as you were honest with him you
    had his respect.

  55. Chris Black

    Hey Tony,

I’ve always found this to be a good weather vane by which to assess others. I’ve found it remarkably clear whan applied. I hope it helps to at least identify what ilk walks the dark alleys in Seattle…and LA.

    “BY THEIR ACTIONS ……

By their actions you shall know them, whether bad or good, whether on another
    side or ours.

And what in their actions gives us the keenest insight? Their ability to help.

Some think that help cannot be done. Shun them. Some think that help is always an effort to betray. Process them for here you have the criminals of Earth.

Some people cannot help. They can only injure and destroy. And if in the name of help they only injure and destroy then know them carefully for they are criminals.

What is a criminal? One who thinks help cannot be on any dynamic or uses help on anyone to injure and destroy.

Who are these men with covert ways who bring Earth its pain? They are the men who cannot help. Who are the women who must be helped but who can only maim? They say, these men and women, that they’ll help and then they make a thorough
    shambles of it all.

From where did Earth conceive her traps and aspects that are grim? Earth would be a lovely place if all men helped to help, not to destroy.

Think heavily on this point. Judge men from what they think of help. Judge women too and find the good ones from the bad.

The good can help. The bad will not or if they do, they “help” only to betray.” LRH

Excerpted from HCOB 28 May 1960, By Their Actions…..

  56. Amen.

  57. Does LRH not say in his “RESPONSIBILITY and the STATE OF OT” tapes words to the extent that there is not a single one of us; (as immortal long term spiritual beings- he means) that as not commited every sin in the book a thousand times over across the span of our whole tracks.
And how would one know without Auditing tech or the increasing of one’s awareness that one was the “primary cuase” of the sin in the first place. What really happened with Hercules ? It might have been a Hera type or Loki Mephistopheles lurking from the realms that eyes do not see. Thank the high realms for what FPRD means to the future track.

  58. Quote

Mayo staged a lot of fun barbecues in Santa Barbara – but he was annihilated by better organized and financed opponents.

There was no burgeoning Internet at the time they played their dirty tricks on Mayo to shut him down. Now, they the “Church” something and it uploads to the web within 5 minutes.

    2) The stat of ex RTC whistle blowers is Straight vertical
3)The stat of how many enemies they create is straight vertical

Marty, you and by extension this blog, are about products, the good kind, valuable final products. The vast majority of us here had the dream envisioned by LRH as written in “The Aims of Scientology”. That dream got beaten up and in some cases even submerged. It never really goes away, does it?

You are heard and duplicated. Thank you.
We don’t really expect you to do anything that you don’t expect from yourself. Scientology Axioms One and Two is where the line starts, we are just agreeing to play this game, with you, as we had previously agreed to play it with LRH.
We just didn’t like where der midget took the game, it is truly just that simple.

You are a good man, Mark Rathbun.

  64. Michael, I agree with Doc’smith’. You my friend
are very wise and an outstanding writer. I have a great deal of admiration and respect for you.

Tony, I second that poem Marty sent to you. If that doesnt raise the hair on the back of your neck, nothing will. Its a code of honor written by a freemason many moons ago. I gave a copy to my sons years ago and have a copy on my wall. I love that poem.

Take heart. The Quislings(named after nazi collaborators) will have their heads shaved;but not by you.

The black propagandists will fall on knives, but not by you.

The camumny spread about you will recoil on those spreading it. Calumny is a sin.

Stay the course. Keep your hands clean. “You” cannot be hurt.

Dont be disappointed that others cannot live up to the standard you set. Stay above the fray. All will be settled in time.

Your an OL because your an OL. You can’t help but be you. Stay yourself. Don’t sweat it. Reputations come and go. You do not need to identify with it, or with your posessions. The mob is fickle. Don’t empower them. YOU cannot be hurt.

  68. Valkov, nice! very nice. Peter Gabriel has always been one of my favorites.

  69. Dear Marty,
Thank you for the acknowledgement to the group and the LRH lecture quote. SO TRUE.

As Doc Smith (and some others) pointed out, I also wish to thank you for providing the ‘group auditing room’, 2-way-communication and community help with your blog.

*Ironically, I remember (and others will too) the day when this lecture series was released to the public. Almost the whole Int Base (CMO Int+Gold, Exec Strata, Gold) was bussed to the Shrine Auditorium for the event and, along with ILO and PAC staff, all were obligated to SELL this cassette package to the Southern California public.

We got drilled and drililled on selling. The price was RIDICULOUSLY too high at $750+. Mark Ingber was constantly on a cell phone (most likely with DM) reporting live with progress reports on the amount of cassette packs sold so far.

I felt SO EMBARRASSED to request that much money from Publics for a package of cassettes that probably only cost $37 to manufacture. I did not sell any myself. Back then, it was considered as a large overt, and that I had lots of counter-intentions. Daahh ?! Today, I am very glad I did not sell any. I actually wish people could listen to them all, free of charge.

    Best wishes for continued success!

  70. JF I am working on it for you. I back tracked it to 1952

“I noticed a religious pejorative in your movie review, “Three Simple Rules” (July 22). As a longtime Scientologist, it made me laugh. Back in staid ol’ 1952, L. Ron Hubbard said in a lecture:

“There is only one way, really, to get into a state of living, and that’s live! There is no substitute for an all-out, over-the-ramparts, howling charge against life. That’s living. Living does not consist of sitting in a temple in the shadows and getting rheumatism from the cold stones. Living is hot; it’s fast; it’s often brutal! It has a terrific gamut of emotional reactions.

“If you are really willing to live, you first have to be willing to do anything that consists of living. Weird. But it’s one of those awfully true things that you wonder why one has to say it. And yet it has to be said.”

Of course, a Scientologist’s codes of ethics guides us to put in a hard day’s work for employers, be faithful to a sexual partner and to responsibly raise kids. We also volunteer in literacy, drug rescue and prevention, even criminal reform programs.

Here are a few more quotes I gathered from Hubbard’s works that will probably strike a chord with you:

On the day when we can fully trust each other, there will be peace on Earth.

He who can truly communicate to others is a higher being who builds new worlds.

Perhaps the most fundamental right of any being is the right to communicate. Without this freedom, other rights deteriorate.

    Understanding is the universal solvent.

People have value and are important. Big or small, they are important.

There is nothing wrong with being the most important person under the sun if everybody else is just as important as you are.

So I thought I’d try some of that fabled communication stuff and see how much trouble I could get into!

    Jon von Gunten”

If I can find the exact lecture it I let you know.

  72. Θ 🙂 I second that.

  73. JF found it, It was:

Excerpted from the lecture Outline of Technique 80 delivered on 19 May 1952.

With thanks to Carl Watts (Scientologist ?)

    http://www.carlwattsartist.com/LRH_Quote060509.html

And this was on the churcie page

“As Ron explained, “Technique 80 is the To Be or Not To Be Technique.” With that, he unveiled the crucial foundation on which ability and sanity rest: the being’s capacity to make a decision. Here, then, is the anatomy of “maybe,” the Wavelengths of ARC, the Tone Scale of Decisions, and the means to rehabilitate a being’s ability To Be … almost anything.”

  74. Sorry, I should have presented it as the question which was in my mind when I read the OP: “Why would Marty …?” You are right lunamoth, there was no need for me to include the answer which came to me. There, issue handled – it’s really hohotai’s overt.

    Clearly I don’t get this place…

Why do I love this blog?

Where else can you get the 2nd in command in Scientology leave the Church, write the 31 factors and shock the Scientology cummunity by exposing the evil/squirrel management of its “leader” then drive a boatload of people out with him, including the spokesman of Scientology.

Then more and more luminaries join in while thousands more Scientologists watch this blog on a daily basis hoping and praying that we win and get our religion back.

No where do you get this kind of entertainment which is peppered by the harsh truth-driven writings of Rinder, the antics of JB messing with PIs and DM’s heads, T Paine giving us a beacon, and all others who write so elegantly on this blog.

And then we get a wedding and a follow-up theta shindig resulting in drunken disorder and an arrest.

This is life, man. Life. Nothing fake or superficial here. It is as real as it gets.

We see some of the best thetans of Scientology putting forth their best writing and evaluations (we have solved most of the Church’s woes here by Scentologists who know their Data Series).

This blog goes from dead serious to high theta to just plain having fun and nowhere do you get this kind of action for free. Thousands of non-Scientologists silently watch this blog in rapt fascination to see what is going to happen.

And they will not be disappointed because what they are going to see and witness is a real religion go through its first upheaval, emerge from its own chaos and blossem into what it was supposed to be in the first place. And the will see it done by all of us.

Man, I call this life and I want more of it!!

Nicely done OSA UK (Phil and Cathy) Now everyone knows where to go to when they cognite on who the real SP is and need to find safe terminals from whom to learn the truth. Just wanted to thank you and ack you both personally for helping with the cause 😀

  81. It’s worse than that. Once they decided to declare me, the Golden Rod of mine went on for pages and pages with session data from grades auditing, etc. and ridiculously (or maliciously) embellished at that. Invented “high crimes” I had never even been asked about were on there as well, such as feeding a pc the “Clear cognition” (total fabrication.) They had a well respected Senior C/S in myself and they had to (like you said) disparage my character. I know for a fact people I have run into since didn’t buy their hatchet job, and they lost people because of it. Driving by that org just last week, the parking lot was empty on a Friday afternoon.
As someone else once said, their statements are 1 part truth, 4 parts embellishment, and 5 parts total b.s.
In one way I’d like to thank them for that hatchet job, as it made me certain I’d never do an A to E and that they could kiss my ass.

  83. Doc,

    Good points.

Sometimes theory clashes with practice. LRH, I believe, said that a cleared cannibal was a still a cannibal. So, we have a technical problem of how to bring someone from one state to another. And then educating them.

We tend to view case from a human perspective. However, what we perceive is the result of a great deal of causation that becomes manifest as a universe. And as bodies operating in that universe. And as minds directing those bodies. All of which have specific structure, function and purpose.

As humans, we tend to attribute emotion to personal action and reaction. However, long before this universe existed and these bodies existed, thetans were interacting. We note that there is a scale of thought, emotion and effort. The band of the tone scale for emotion basically runs from 0.0 to 4.0, the numbering of which is arbitrary and used for illustration.

Yet, thetans were early on operating well above 4.0. There was a long period of theta wars. Some of this activity is even mentioned in the Bible. The problem centered around control. Control of reality. Control of postulates and believes and opinions. Control of how the universe would manifest.

From the perspective of a thetan thus engaged in trying to control other thetans, you had a real problem. And the solutions to that problem were a variety of theta traps, implants, minds and the vast array of things we find in the bank.

But, these thetans weren’t operating out of fear or terror. That came much, much later. These thetans weren’t operating via bodies. That too came much later. Yet, the tendency to suppress others beings was clearly in play.

And a being who suppresses others, who willingly and knowingly causes harm and damage to others is certainly, in my book, on the road to being a suppressive “person.”

Maybe the key to all this is in the term “Person” and a thetan is not a “person.” But, my experience on the track indicates that certain beings are inclined to suppressing others as a solution. The problem is being right, of controlling others, of establishing reality. Who gets to choose?

Social beings tend to allow others to choose as they wish. Anti-social beings tend to not allow others to choose.

This is a huge subject and could take up pages of research. I don’t think it resolves with “emotion” and “valences” because the postulates and tendencies existed before this universe came into prominence and before physical bodies.

    Just my thoughts in brief.

    Michael

  84. Sarge,

Language always presents problems. How to convey a thought.

When you look at the Factors and the Axioms, you’re right about “little” and “big,” which are terms of measure. What are you measuring? Space? Time? Weight? Mass? All of which are created and not the thetan.

Responsibility IS the key. And though theta is theta, there is a recognizable difference in each of us. Thetans without bodies are able to recognize one another without hesitation. How that happens is for someone else to answer.

However, experience is experience. And I would speculate that we’ve all witnessed a marked difference is the capacity of each of us to get the job done. I know that there are others much smarter than I am. Even in native state. I know that others are better artists. Natively, not just as a human. There’s a wide range of differences.

I would say that LRH is a far more powerful being than I am. Doesn’t leave me feeling inadequate. Doesn’t shake my personal confidence. Doesn’t intimidate me or make me think less of myself. Just an observation.

And, what’s true in one case probably extrapolates outward.

But, whenever we begin to classify, we run the risk of marginalizing others. “Only big beings need apply!” type of crap. Only the elite. Only the wealthy. Only the beautiful. The rest of you filth have no rights. Blah, blah, blah.

Everyone deserves respect. I even feel we should be concerned for the well being of suppressives. Just as a matter of practicality. We will all persist into the future. We will all remain part of one another’s existence. Reducing the well being of any of us will reduce the well being of all of us to that slight degree. The accumulation of this well being or reduced well being influences the overall conditions of our existence–in this universe and others.

So, I would apologize for being inexact in my wording, but my intent was to provoke an examination of a particular issue: how does one practically go about getting another being to act with responsibility, empathy and care for other’s well being. And for provoking thought I make no apology.

For some this caring for others is so native that even when driven into near death this person will operate for the benefit of others. Whereas others will not–even when apparently operating above 2.0 on the tone scale.

Theory is a wonderful thing but only when it actually applies to your provence of operation and only when its application produces the intended results.

    So, Sarge, I salute you.

    Michael

  85. Sam-

    You are the gentleman.

  86. Tony DePhillips

    Thanks Marty!

    That hit the spot!

It’s funny you sent me that poem. It has always been one of my favorites and I shared it with my mother and she loved it too. It has always had a special meaning to me and now even more so.
    🙂

    Thanks Chris,

That was very nice of you to say.

    Thanks Thought Provoking.

I appreciate what you are doing too.

  89. Great post ! The LRH excerpt and also Kentucky basketball coach Rick Pitino quote. And also what Karen # 1 said re: Marty hailed as a good & decent man by so many. Ditto & Amen. There’s a reason for that, truth and results. Life is good.

  90. Tony DePhillips

    Hey Crashing Upwards.

I can tell you are a big being. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a group of a few thousand with the right viewpoint? Then we could really get somewhere.
    ARC,
    Tony

  91. NICE!

  92. Well Marty, I didn’t comment much in the original “Confession” post, because I basically just wanted to acknowledge you. But you’re dead on right here.

The State of Man lectures are very apt — and quickly point many of the ways of the CoM’s demise. In particular the concept of “Making others guilty for having commited an overt” is the biggest overt of all.

The moment that started to be violated was probably the moment many of us started to “see the light”. Even if you’ve never listened to the SOM Congress it’s pretty instinctive to a being.

    Take care my friend…

  93. Tony DePhillips

    Dear IO,

You definetly have grown some big ones my friend. Actually I think they were always there, they just had to drop.

We will continue to have lots of fun putting ethics in on the church of mestology. I appreciate the kind words and look forward to lots of new adventures with you.

    ML,
    Tony

  94. Fantastic ! Thank you very much Cat Daddy for the search and the additional quotes. I love them. I printed them for keepsake.

Merci beaucoup Bruce for the search & answer as well!

I knew i heard it somewhere but couldn’t recall. Thank you fellows!

Take a good look. It is precisely Marty’s actions, honesty and follow through that give him credibility. The word “genuine” comes to mind.

  96. Keep constantly in mind in how many things you yourself have witnessed changes already. The universe is change, life is understanding.

  97. High class people do high class things, Marty. Thanks for the confession.

  98. Ne, Marty and fellow Indies,

I wholeheartedly agree. It’s interesting to think of LRH tech as being entirely separate from Marty (as much as I admire him) or the CofS and DM (as much as I don’t admire them but probably should, so as to as-is them in my universe), or even LRH. Interesting just to consider LRH’s tech. (Lower-case version of it, not Tech.) As much as I believe that some of LRH’s achievements should be deeply honored, I also perceive that there have been pernicious direct, or side, effects from some of his tech. Pernicious effects may be due to faulty, erroneous or malicious bits of the tech itself, or faulty, erroneous or malicious administration of what is natively workable tech. What is responsible for the bad effects is a question for brighter, better-trained, and more, minds than my own.

Humility is a trait I screen for to see if someone’s credible. Competence and confidence go hand in hand. But self importance, purported infallibility, hubris, and (false) pride precede someone trying to pawn off an item that has an inflated (or zero) value for purely private gain, and such behavior seems to precede the super-salesman’s downfall. To cite just a few recent notable examples: Enron and Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling; Worldcom and Bernie Ebbers; Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities and its owner; or the Church of Ponzi and DM. We could go further back in history and surely find many more relevant examples.

I think it was Francis Bacon who said that time is the greatest innovator and that’s so, in part, because humanity accumulates knowledge, and subsequent generations of people remorselessly test and refine, or refute, the cultural contributions of past innovators.

It would be interesting to see LRH tech opened up on the Internet like an open source software project and to let tens, or hundreds, of thousands of developers hack away at it. But to always maintain a copy of the source code. Maybe let a non-profit technical foundation distinguish between enhancements and degrades. Possibly let distributed, non-profit governance wash out profits and egos, with an aim towards debugging and enhancing the code for society’s benefit.

Profits could still accrue to those who implement or service the code best on behalf of others. As regards SCN, that’s obviously not the CofS and DM.

Anyway, separating the market (or spiritual) need, from the product or service and the provider, and balancing private gain against social advancement would be a neat organizational trick. This seems to be one possible goal being pursued by some Indies, and a very interesting one at that. Do 10,000 monkeys equal one genius? Probably not. But, then, monkeys don’t generally inhabit this blog, LRH wasn’t God or the 8th Dynamic by himself, society advances, and time marches on.

IMHO or IOMO (In One Monkey’s Opinion).

  99. Marty and Mosey, congrats on getting married, I probably would have made time to show up if I’d known it was you two getting married. And the jail thing is nothing to worry about, cops are too heavy handed these days.
