Having noticed certain shortcomings in my own conduct of late, I turned to the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu as I often do. I am noting some passages below that particularly rang applicable given current events. Maybe they’ll also provide some food for thought for others too. For those folk who are still so programmed to believe any wisdom outside of Scientology is deleterious, a few words by L Ron Hubbard on the Tao Te Ching:
“It says that man could seek his Tao-hood in various ways, but he would have to practice and live in a certain way in order to achieve Tao-hood. Now, there’s no reason to belabor this any further, but it would amaze you that this book is a very civilized piece of work. It would be the kind of civilized work which you would expect maybe to appear from a very, very educated, extremely compassionate, pleasant people of a higher intellectual order than we are accustomed to read. It is a very fine book. It’s sort of simple, it’s sort of naive and it tells you that you should be simple and economical and should do this and that. And that is, by the way, about the only flaw there is in it from a Scientological point of view: that you must be economical. [laughter] That one is a little off the groove. But the rest of “The Way”, who knows but what if we took the Tao just as written and knowing what we already know about Scientology, we simply set out to practice the Tao. Marty, I don’t know what “certain shortcomings” you’re referring to, but I would simply say that you have demonstrated real grace under pressure. I have no idea how I would react were I to be subjected to almost constant harassment you’ve had to deal with, but I think it’s safe to say that it would test just about anyone.
Just remember you have plenty of people on your side, both in your current hometown and outside of it. The squirrel-ees are trying to break you down and would love nothing more than to provoke a reaction from you. Don’t give them the satisifaction! Keep in mind, some of those people are eventually going to show up at your doorstep needing your help to repair their jacked-up cases.

Hey, yesterday I just happened to post a short note prefacing a new article by Outside The Box (an articulate, long-time Scientologist who is still under the radar). His article is on the subject of intolerance, and it reminded me of an LRH-recommended book I read while I was at the Int base. And as you noted, there were quite a number of books LRH recommended people read. This one, was called “Tolerance” (1925) and was written by Hendrik Willem Van Loon, a prolific and well-known Dutch-American author. I liked the book when I read it — Van Loon (pronounced “loan”) — covers the subject of tolerance and intolerance down through the ages. So yesterday I ordered a copy on Amazon and plan to give it a read in a new unit of time. When I get done, I’ll post a review. Thanks again for posting these spectacular quotes from the Tao.
As for those people who are still programmed to believe any wisdom outside of Scientology is deleterious, that was one of the things I most despised about the “ruling class” at the Int base. I can’t think of a more anti-Scientology, asinine viewpoint.
LRH said Scientology means “knowing how to know.” Scientology provides the tools and yardsticks necessary to investigate what other people have written through the ages, and to easily and effortlessly isolate the gold from the slag. While Scientology does provide a wealth of knowledge in itself, LRH intended people to USE Scientology to enrich their own life by learning from others, as he did himself. And that certainly means reading, looking and learning.

Marty- Self Inspection towards a road to higher human attributes is not easy. Thank you for your leadership in this post.
When I lived at Esalen I became very interested in the Buddhist-Beatnick SF culture that Esalen was so essential in playing a role in the 60’s. Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Kerouac are two that come to mind that influenced me in a big way.
The Kerouac quote I love the most:
“the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes ‘Awww!”
I personally do not feel Scientology is “the only road” or even “the best road” to spiritual enlightenment.
Axiom #2 is very clear about that. The best road to enlightenment is simply what a being considers or postulates it to be. Considerations are senior to even Scientology itself as it exists in MEST.
I find Scientology to be a fascinating and rewarding subject. There is plenty I fully agree with and aspects I do not.
I personally believe that if Scientology had competent, effective, and spiritually aware leadership it could make a profound difference on the Planet.
I will happily admit that some of the work they do now (The Way To Happiness, VM’s, Anti-Drug Campaigns, etc.) is helpful and positive but we all know how inauthentic these campaigns truly are. We know this because all of us in someway- those who post, or those who simply read- know the truth to the various abuses that are rampant within Scientology. I know about these not because I read about them, I know from my own living experience. I have personal knowledge of what it is like to be essentially locked in a room while ten people demand 250,000 dollars from you. I know what it is like when you say “No” that there is virtually zero respect and zero granting of beingness. To experience something like this numerous times and then go to an event and see the good Scientology does in the world (and it does) is awful. I clearly remember the sickening feeling in my stomach at an event one time. I looked around at all the people clapping in glee and was wondering “Are there any real people here? Is everyone a living wax sculpture? I want to meet real people.”
If I was to describe my experience and observations of organized Corporate Scientology in one word it would be: Inauthentic.
There is no authenticity. They do not want to admit any vunerability, weakness, or wrongness. I couldn’t imagine living like that. I couldn’t imagine pretending to infallible and right 100% of the time. What a sad life!
This is the basic difference: Marty admits faults and weakness and we admire him for that. We admire him because its a genuine human experience that we can all identify with and the persistence ends of his “wrongness.”
DM is too afraid to admit any weakness, he perpetrates the lie of “OT=Superhuman nonsense” and the rest of the BS. He inverts the technology to prey on people’s weakness rather than facilitate true transformation. And the lies persist. They get solid. Why? There is 0 Admiration! Its right in the Factors.
Truly sad.

I don’t agree with you that Scientology is not the best road to spiritual enlightenment. But I do agree it is not perfect. And having learned from others on this blog, and some of the “Suggested Reading” that Marty has offered and the wisdom of other commenters, especially those who have taught by example what buddhism really represents in terms of peace and intelligence, I also agree that it is not the ONLY road.
I have a great deal of respect for the breadth of knowledge and experience you demonstrate. It’s the sort of life that LRH led, and I believe he hoped everyone to lead. A life of adventure and experience, charging over the ramparts, devoid of blinders and “now we’re supposed to’s” and free to truly think for yourself.
I think we have a great opportunity here to resolve all of the issues stated on this blog. DM could have a cognition! He could recognize that Marty is his best friend and has pointed out needed corrections in his organization that he, David, by undoing all Qual functions at the highest level, has allowed to veer from the path of optimum survival, that which LRH set in place for the benefit of all mankind. All beings operate on the Theta/ MEST Theory. You crash into the wall, bounce off with an impression of the wall, cognite “I don’t have to do that again”, go along merrily until you crash into another wall. This new wall has a new lesson in you evolution as a being.

The quotes communicate some of the core values of the Tech of Non-violent Action.
Without the right values and Tech, there exists a vacuum. Too often what will fill the vacuum? “Tech” and “values” from the reactive mind. As we know, that “tech” and those values– the attitudes and computations in the reactive mind – when acted on, results in loss.
It is easy to get restimulated when persecuted by a tyrant, and to lash out at everyone in the scene, such as the tyrant’s supporters and the country itself (in this case, DM’s supporters and the Church). That results in failure, as you turn the people against you and bond them more strongly to the tyrant.* You also do not gain the support of outsiders, as you can appear to have a similar nature to the tyrant.
Having the correct attitudes and Tech provides a guide to effective behavior while under attack, allowing one to spot reactive impulses and not act on them.
The Tao quote is a good guide. Thanks, again, Marty.

*Yes, the supporters have their own ethics situations, just as many of us did; that is not the point. Non-violent warfare does not have as its immediate objective “getting everyone’s ethics in.” Rather, it seeks to bring down the tyrant, to open the door to the ending of abuses.
Winning over the tyrant’s Pillars of Support, granting them amnesties, etc. is a key target in bringing down tyrants. It is not a question of “what they deserve,” but of freeing the country or group of tyranny.

Thank you for posting this. I have the Tao on my phone and turn to it in times of difficulty. It is the Tao that brought solace and understanding in those movements of extricating myself from the labyrinth that Corp Scn had become. When what seemed as “no way out” situations, the Tao was there.
Again, thank you for posting this, reflecting on it’s use and truth.
This seems to be well taken and I am glad it is. In Scn it was expected for us to rise above the insanity. Now it needs to be expected for us to raise above THEIR insanity. In watching your videos I am often worried that at some time someone is going to get hurt. I would never want that to happen. But I for one would not torrerate what they are doing to you and your family and am not sure what I would do in your situation. I hope it resolves itself soon.

I haven’t commented in a while and that is because I didn’t feel I could add to your comments with a “What Is Greatness” point of view that wouldn’t seem preachy or make anyone feel wrong. I believe what we have escaped is an ignorance so deeply rooted and a suppression so well crafted that the only way we can ever be effective is to stay above the nagging itch to drop down the tone scale. Yes-it’s fun to laugh at the absurdity of it all, or cry over the injustice or rail against the cruelty, but we understand it, we don’t have to become the opposing reality in the mirror’s reflection.
We must lead the way out- with unflinching truth, tolerance, compassion and understanding. We must be kind to the blind onces and teach them by example. We must continue to throw the rope down the well and pull them out one by one. That to me is our mission.

I used to love ethics tech before it became so warped and disappeared into one big “Justice” cesspool. So when I see someone apply it and put their own ethics in, I get very excited.

Tory Christman’s story of Andreas Heldal Lund’s interaction with her as she was banging on the Church’s critics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5o9W5zrPlKI) is an example of the Tao in many respects and should be a lesson to the C of S and to independents and to critics. Tory turned from a hardened, calloused attacker to a person who could finally see that there were more sides to the story, not by caving in to pressure and antagonism from a bunch of people calling her a “moron” but by a few kind words from someone she considered her enemy.

I know or have met a lot of the people who have arrived on Marty’s doorstep. They are people who have had cognitions in session that could have been paraphrased and plopped right in the middle of a translation of the Tao and you would not have blinked; it would have all been in alignment. They know about love and they know about communication and they hold close to their hearts the same things that every other person does.
They want to love and when they go home after antagonizing Marty and his wife and their neighbors there’s an ulcer and heartburn a-brewing!
And it’s got to be the same with every person who greets the world around him with antagonism rather than with an effort to make peace. No matter how “right” one is feeling in his hatred or antagonism.
I believe that we can not really control another’s feelings or thoughts. Our best chances at changing others is through changing our own thoughts and feelings and leaving out of the equation others thoughts and feelings about us… and that’s doable. (“A being causes his own feelings.” LRH).
The being who wrote the Tao wrote it in a tone level of 8.0 (aesthetics) or above. Doesn’t it make sense when Ron says in Science of Survival that we can really only work with angry people when we are at a tone of enthusiasm or higher?
Independent Scientologists clashing with C of S Scientologists and videoing it and putting it on youtube makes all concerned look childish and whiney; it’s not good for either camp; there are no winners.

Nobody is perfect. That was the whole point of getting into Scientology. Either to help oneself or others achieve a better existence was the goal.
Radical miscavology tries to enforce “perfection”. It really is only a control mechanism.
We are all imperfect beings. I would rather be involved with people starting from that point than work with people that try to enforce some “perfection” or sanctimonious state.
I don’t want to live up to others expectations of who I should be or how I should be. I for one don’t expect that of you either.
You are a good man, that is obvious for anyone capable of looking.
That the cult tries to demonize you and others is a testament to their own degraded condition. We all know that members of the cult have thier own abberations. We are not trying to point those out with the exception of their abuses to others couched in the name of help.
It always struck me as odd that the church was so worried about my short comings and yet has no ability to see or admit to their own. I always thought that it should be a two way street.

The perennial question – what IS “Scientology”.
The first mention of the term by LRH is in a tape, 28 Dec 1951, CHART OF ATTITUDES, where he defines it as clearly as it ever has been:
“This channel should probably be called something like Scientology (a new coined word); it probably should be. What is it? It is a route—the study of science or the study of truth or the study of knowledge—because it is “the study of”.”

It was my fear of looking, communicating, acting. It was my fear of what will the church do to me, what lies will be told about me, loosing my friends and family, being betrayed by people pretending to be my friends, not finding new friends, etc, etc etc. It was this fear that kept me jailed and I was the jailer.
It was when I managed to muster up some courage that my life changed for the better, forever!

That viewpoint has certainly existed in prior churches: “nothing outside the Koran is worth reading,” Catholic heresy inquisitions against those who looked at anything they didn’t deem correct, etc. Not all people are persuaded by these attitudes but once enough people espouse them, the others shut up for fear they will be punished. I wonder how many people in the Sea Org are just “shutting up” to keep out of harm’s way?

Yes, McGins and Lynne, very good points. And Marty, I wasn’t really suggesting you read it — you’ve already got the tolerance of a saint. One reason I left Int was I was afraid of going to jail for taking DM apart one day. I knew his supporters would lie (as is the moral code there) and provide affidavits to law enforcement that my actions were “entirely unprovoked.” LRH talks about the deeply rooted hatred people feel toward a being who implanted them. If that ferocity ever became uncorked… ooh… the thought itself is grim indeed. And I am sure I’m not the only one who left for the same reason.
Regarding the origin of the bigoted, robotic shunning of anything not “approved,” some people point to KSW as the “Why.” But clearly, that is not correct because it doesn’t open the door to a handling.
The situation is a symptom caused by the lack of personal integrity. Personal integrity, as I understand it now, mandates one’s own personal viewpoint in all matters judgmental; and along with that goes the absolute refusal of the right of intervention to any and all outside forces, beings or groups.
LRH put out a definition of Responsibility in about 1985 which amazed me. I don’t have a copy today, but paraphrased it went something like this: “Responsibility: the refusal of the right of intervention to any person or group that would come between you and whatever it is you are taking responsibility for.” That’s a pretty poor paraphrase, but the concept is there. I hope someone has a copy and will post a correctly quoted version here.
Boy, with personal integrity, one must always consult and follow one’s own gut feeling and knowingness, and never negate it.
Without personal integrity, beings simply follows the party line and are robotic and degraded.
It’s weird, but since I finally came to appreciate this subject and its role in life, the nightmares I used to occasionally suffer about being “back on the Int base” are gone. The last time I dreamed about being back on the Int base was before I realized personal integrity is the button that turns off any nightmare experience. That was, gosh, maybe 8 months ago? Before that I had at least 1 or 2 nightmares a month.
Going out integrity is the first thing that happened on the line, and is how a being opens the door to disaster. Before every personal nightmare due to DM and his suppressive henchmen, one violated his own personal integrity. Violate your personal integrity and what follows is guaranteed to be a nightmare.
LRH told Tony Hitchman that he believed the people on Earth were put here to learn a lesson and work things out. I’m wondering if that isn’t the key lesson of this planet, if it is indeed — as LRH theorized in the PDC lectures, a prison planet.
I have have seen that anything bad that ever happened to me — I can follow it back and before I became a victim, I violated my own personal integrity by agreeing to be there, etc. It’s funny, but when I spot or dwell on that, I invariably feel a sense of that peace that Lao Tzu spoke of.
One other interesting adjoining datum: LRH said in the PDC lectures that sanity depends on a being able to both create and destroy. So the point is not just to wander off with a smile on our faces, now “at peace.” No, DM is still busy destroying Scientology and harming others. So we must take him out and bring all the ferocity we can muster to wipe him out.

Absolutes are unobtainable, and it is a fool’s errand to try to enforce perfection. (However, to aspire to perfection is a good thing!)
SPs don’t have cognitions. They perceive all of life from the past time and location in which they are stuck. Such precludes cognitions.
I once did about 8 intensives of sec checking at Flag after I had the EP of OT VII because I had had an earlier run in with the IAS reg on the ship. Bottom line of all the questions was “has COB missed a withhold on you”. The worst we could come up with – for which I paid financially and by doing the KSW course for the second time and by going back home to continue VII – my big crime – I had in my possession books about life and spirituality that were not written by LRH. Obviously this was no crime in my universe, but I was willing to take that wrong indication in order to get my butt away from Flag. Such fun stories. Glad it is all laughable memories now.

I tried to think of the last time I heard anyone still in the CoS say something like this and I could not remember one. Certainly you’d never get it from the staff at St Hill. To give you all an example, I got screwed over by a certain staff member (acting MAA – surprise, surprise) and I intimated to her senior that an apology would go some way towards assuring me that they were serious about delivering the service that I had paid for. She agreed and said that she would speak to the MAA.
So, I went round to her office a little while later, but subsequently wished I hadn’t bothered. When I asked her why she had done what she did (declared me PTS and thus ineligible for further services), she claimed that she “couldn’t remember” (yeah right, like you declare people PTS all the time for no reason), but worst of all, she said “It was an incorrect action on my part.” Just that.
I wasn’t expecting a grovelling apology or even the sackcloth and ashes routine, but if she had said “Look, I made a really bad mistake. I am so sorry for the incalculable upset and misery I obviously caused you Ax. I’ll take steps to ensure that it never happens again”, then I would have respected that.
Instead, I was left with no doubt that the staff were taught to never admit any weakness to the public and so could never look at their own behaviour and take responsibility for it.
Anyway, I digress. The fact that you can look at yourself AND take action to correct a perceived fault is a testament to how far you have come since leaving the cult behind. And, from what I have seen, you have been a paragon of restraint. The behaviour of these ‘Squirrel Busters’ has been disgusting and cowardly. Clearly the intent is to intimidate and provoke you into doing something that they can use against you. But even if anything DID happen, I’m sure any court would see the evidence of what you and Monique and your friends have been subjected to and conclude that this was a sustained and orchestrated campaign of intimidation more appropriate to The Mob than a ‘church’.
The fact that you are getting so much attention shows that you must be doing something right. Keep up the good work!

Marty, Chinese people are a huge influence here in the community I live in. There is a cemetary up the street that has an entire section dedicated just to the far east. All of the headstones are written in either Korean or Chinese. I do not read Chinese or understand it, but it is a beautiful language, simple, gentle and never threatening. I know a very man Chinese people, but learning their customs as a westerner can be difficult for some people. Very good on your adaptability and ability to find wisdom not just in the words of L. Ron Hubbard but others as well.
There is a saying: “it’s all Greek to me”. The Greek equivalent of that is “it’s all Chinese to me”. 🙂

Yvonne, that is fascinating, because if the Sec Checking consisted of whether or not COB missed a W/H on anybody, what proven evidence is there he has no overts himself? There isn’t any. I have heard this many, many times. It was suggested to me by a registrar at Flag when I was there who “took over my cycle” from the reg I originally had that left and was replaced, that I need a Security Check before I start my Purification Rundown at Flag for the first time? Why? If I was regged for the service would a Sec Check be needed before I start? It is better to know, than not to know I guess.

Thoughtful, I cannot express enough my complete agreement with you. I agree with all of it. One’s personal integrity helps to protect one from situations like that. I remember years ago I never used to think that the church could or would deliberately try to provoke other people into doing overts so people in the church could then lie to one another to cover for an instigator. But, it became a fact of life after I went to Flag, especially worse since I was not a frequent public there, it was my first and last time to the base and will be for some time to come. Notice the code doesn’t say you can’t acknowledge a mistake or even apologize for one.
In fact in the original “Auditors Code” Tech Film (which is far superior to the later version in my opinion) we see the auditor apologizing for giving the PC a wrong command.
I mean what is an ARCX or BPC assessment but acknowledging that you or another auditor screwed up in some way in most cases.
In my opinion the effort to blame the PC really took off and as they say went “straight up and vertical” with the release of those god awful or grossly altered “tech drills” known also as GAT where on every dirty needle it is *assumed* that the PC has a withhold.
Not that the Auditor’s TRs and code are out which is the usual case.
But that the PC must be withholding something.
And not a session withhold like “I think the HAL 9000 has more ARC”.
But some sleazy withhold of some kind that the “auditor” according to the drill must force the PC to reveal.
In fact that sort of think is something that has permeated the whole organization.

Many people almost did Cindy, me included, get forced to spend their life in endless ethics cycles. The only way that can be done is through lies, only, there is no other way. It wasn’t an actual ethics cycle I was involved in, it was overts from the church staff that public were “legitimately” billed for on church stationary. My latest understanding is that the same reg that pulled this on me in New York now has his wife holding double hats of both Treasurer and C/S! 🙂 If she is married to a criminal like that most likely she is keeping track financially of the crimes her husband is C/S’ing out to the public through her so both of them have can a comfortable retirement at other peoples sad expense. I actually had one of the only four letters LRH ever wrote to me in my life stolen by the same reg. Stolen! A letter to me from L. Ron Hubbard himself! L. Ron Hubbard told me himself in writing that he didn’t understand that I didn’t get the first letter he sent me. Later I did, after LRH died.

I don’t know why, but it got me thinking of the protestant/catholic metaphor wherein (she says) we now have “Martin” “Luther” Rathbun and a whole protestant movement!
Time was when Catholics would persecute the Protestants and, I imagine, the animosity ran both ways. Now Catholics and Protestants have pancake breakfasts together, inter-marry and make love, work with co-workers on the same assembly lines or in the same office cubicles and belch over beers and cheetos while rooting for the same (or opposing) ball teams. But it’s rare that any members of these sects get into any strong arguments over who is “right” and who is “wrong”.
I guess it took just a few hundred years for it to evolve to that for the Christians… need it take so long for Scientologists of either persuasion? I think it could happen now. Actually I think it is happening now. (Perhaps Marty’s post here inaugurates it.) There are far more things to agree upon in Scientology that are good than there are for things to disagree on no matter if you are in the “Anti-DM” camp or the “pro-DM” camp.
If the modern C of S can throw a “casino night” to raise funds for a building, perhaps the Independents should through a pancake breakfast to raise ARC for the future and for now. (Joking here, but I think some may get the point.)

My sentiments exactly Brian. I remember thinking it many times at events when the sheeple all stood up and clapped and clapped over and over on cue. Not to say some of the clapping wasn’t warranted, but overall it was like watching a bunch of circuits. Total group think and agreement. And we all know what LRH said about group think. Interesting. I still get nightmares, that I have security telling me I have to go back to the RPF, they were so real I would actually get out of my bed in a cold sweat wondering is this fu— true? They used to happen weekly for years and years, since I have gotten on board so to speak they are more or less every few months, and less intense way less.

An interesting business opportunity presented itself, that I decided to explore, and in the first business conference meetings the “leader” welcomed us and said start of meeting and started clapping his hands and others followed his lead, I asked what are we clapping for? Bold ass that I am, he stopped dead in his tracks and didn’t do it again in future meetings. It was his programmed robotic response to all the fund raisers and other B/S he attends that assumed this was the winning valence, but in the professional world people don’t start professional meetings like that ever, unless you are introducing some celebrity/professional speaker.

Try walking it back and just lightly spot any points where you violated your personal integrity — in other words, you thought, “Wait a minute, this is not right” but then you not-ised your observation. That finally turned the nightmares completely off for me.
By the way, for those who never went to Int, nearly everyone I know who was at Int has had some kinds of nightmares from that place — and not because “they are contemplating squirreling” but because the Int base was an abusive witch pit and was not Scientology.

The attitude that “any wisdom outside of Scientology is deleterious” predates the reign of the Demonic Midget. In about 1980 a friend wanted some reading material for a trip to Flag and I loaned him The Tao of Physics. He was promptly routed to Ethics when seen reading it on break in the HGC, and an MAA who probably knew nothing about either the Tao or physics took the book away, telling my friend that it was an “alternate practice”.

James Earl Ray, Charles Manson, Al Capone, Hitler — these men are brutal criminals with blood on their hands. All were free at one time, until forces for good eventually caught up with them. Dealing with them was never a “strong argument” over who was “right” and who was “wrong.”
David Miscavige has blood on his hands and plenty of it. There is no need to enumerate his vast crimes. Why just this year another death occurred on the highway in front of the Gold base. Was it due in part to Miscavige’s orders to “mess with the road” to slow down traffic so it wouldn’t be so loud passing by his office? He wants that traffic stopped and has harped on that for years at the Int base. Now another innocent person is dead.
Sorry Dan Locke, but I for one am not about to belch over beer and cheetos with David Miscavige or anyone who is actively attempting to keep him in power. I’m going to get in ethics, which is what I’m doing right now. That’s Scientology.
Getting in ethics isn’t about “controlling other’s feelings or thoughts”; it’s about curtailing the dramatization of destructive behavior. I’m not doing it because I am “greeting the world around me with antagonism”; I am doing it because I desire to help people and protect them.
The way to “make peace” — since you brought it up — is to crowd in ethics on the correct source. Knowingly or unknowingly you are the voice of OSA propaganda. And you apparently want us all to stand back and give carte blanche to the CoS and David Miscavige to continue to abuse others, commit crimes, extort money.

I can’t agree more, the quotes are stonch and remind me of the R Factor we all know; who makes me eggs in the morning? Who is important?
Who do I call most offten?
Who is doing their job?
Where is my life going? And who do I share it with?
THESE are the things that matter.
I recall well a story in ‘Have You Lived Before This Life?’ An English man recalled his past life during Auditing as an 18th century Chinaman; having being beheaded for no good reason, his Case hung up on a muffin he offers to his women friend. Amazingly, it was at that realization his case resolved. Or “blew”.
The greatest secret is integrity! Or some variance, tolerance.
As a word, it seems to me just this: the ability to take ones responsibility IN Present Time.

Personally, I paid a dear price for my own integrity. (I lost all of my Bridge over a $1400-1600 Freeloader Bill. I could of paid it…a hundred fold, but what of the others? Who was I to share it with?? “Join Scientology friends you’ll get ripped off just like me!”??
One could argue thus was so foolish!? The whole Bridge over basically “nothing”? Yup…and I’ll be happy in my death, I stood my ground.
The muffin she never ate was perhaps gods intention. Neither here nor there. The guy just disappeared…how many years later… it’s still on his case? Remarkable!

My take on it is that Scientology is not a “road” at all. It is a highly workable tool that potentially has many important applications in a beings quest for “full disclosure” of the universe in which he lives. I do not believe, for a minute, that it is “the only tool” one needs. I do not think that this is a “one path”, or a “one tool” universe.
Theta’s conquest (full duplication, understanding and control) of the universe would seemingly necessitate getting in there and being willing to experiencing everything, inside and out. It would seem wise to have as many tools as possible at one’s disposal.

The Master views the parts with compassion, because he understands the whole. His constant practice is humility. He doesn’t glitter like a jewel but lets himself be shaped by the Tao, as rugged and common as a stone.
I especially love this quote. Without compassion there is individuation, all me versus them, me versus the psychs, me versus the education system, me versus her, me versus him…the list goes on and on.

All I am suggesting you to consider is the way you inter-relate with the parishioners of the Church. These are not people who are any more mean than Marty and Mike were, when they were card carrying members of the Church. I have met, years ago, John Allendar, Joann Wheaton and Robert Belcastro. They are not bad guys; they’re good guys. I am simply suggesting that in communicating with them that they be treated decently; with dignity and respect. I think Tory’s experience is a good example of this working. She was out to “do the dirty work” of her bosses and she folded when she was treated decently. You probably have a copy of the big blue manual on dissemination that was released in the 80’s or 90’s. In it there is a transcript of the tape, “Attitude and Conduct of A Scientologist, When and Where it is Successful”. If you don’t have it let me know and I will track down a copy for you. I suggest a re-read of it. I also think that all members of the independents and ex-Scientologists should treat members of the current church with courtesy and respect. I think that the chances of changing a person’s mind are always best when the Auditor’s Code is in place; that’s all! Look up in your tech dictionary the definitions of “invalidation” and “ridicule” and remember how you bridled under it as a staff member and ask yourself if you want to continue to be a part of that chain of pain. I don’t.
I am imagining that “our” James Lawson, Jr. is a “different” James Lawson, Jr. than the individual in your article. The civil rights activist has never been one to downplay his involvements and if he had ever been a member of the C of S I believe he would have made it a matter of record before now. I could be wrong… just my thoughts on the subject.
