Fear

L. Ron Hubbard once designated the entry level of Scientology as Scientology Zero.  Scientology Zero consisted initially of demonstrating to a person that the environment was not as dangerous as he had been led to believe. It educated a person on the existence of merchants of chaos who traffic in painting a picture of danger so that they can profit by protecting one from that danger.  It is the old organized crime protection racket.

As we have seen over the years Scientology has become that which Scientology Zero warned of.  The church continually plies its public with end-of-world scenarios that can only be handled by contributing more greenbacks to the church.  Some folks on the outside engage in a similar game of designating the church as the enemy that will consume humanity if not combatted continually.

One purpose of this blog from the outset was to demonstrate that the church of Scientology was not something to be feared; that it in fact had simply perfected the protection racket game, giving folk the illusion that it was something to continually fear.

I came across a little something by Bruce Lipton from The Biology of Belief (Hay House, Inc. 2005) that explains why obsessing with fear inhibits growth:

In a response similar to that displayed by cells, humans unavoidably restrict their growth behaviors when they shift into a protective mode.  If you’re running from a mountain lion, it’s not a good idea to expend energy on growth.  In order to survive – that is, escape the lion – you summon all your energy for your fight or flight response.  Redistributing energy reserves to fuel the protection response inevitably results in curtailment of growth…

…Inhibiting growth processes is also debilitating in that growth is a process that not only expends energy but is also required to produce energy. Consequently, a sustained protection response inhibits the creation of life-sustaining energy. The longer you stay in protection, the more you consume your energy reserves, which in turn, compromises your growth.  In fact, you can shut down growth processes so completely that it becomes a truism that you can be ‘scared to death.’

Maybe that is a scientific explanation for Lao Tzu’s having wrote the following in the Tao Te Ching:

There is no greater illusion than fear, no greater wrong than preparing to defend yourself, no greater misfortune than having an enemy.  Whoever can see through all fear will always be safe.

  1. There is another major way the Church traffics in fear. How many corporate Scientologists would just walk away if they believed the Church would ignore that exercise of their free choice? But of course they rightfully fear that the Church would actively work to destroy their family and business relationships. And if those people should, God forbid, speak out regarding unpleasant truths they had experienced with the Church, then the heat really gets turned up. Hate websites, smear campaigns, confessional secrets disclosed and the whole bag of dirty tricks.

Fear within, fear without, it’s become the main stock in trade of the Church of Scientology.

  2. And the free expression of criticism for Ron, and his church, without the fear that he created with paramilitary retaliation, backed by fair gaming, is proof that the fear is being overcome.

Thanks to the internet and the overwhelming numbers of common people that are carrying the banner of the first amendment.

Thanks to Gerry Armstrong, David Mayo and all the pioneers that were smashed without the back up of the internet. They faced the fear face to face.

And more recently thanks to you Marty for your wisdom to reevaluate your own philosophy.

  3. Marty, thank you for the insightfully chosen comments about fear; I was not familiar with Bruce Lipton’s work but have put his book on my reading list to check out further. In my own journey, I have come to understand how much human behavior is about hiding fear, if not from the people outside, then, more dangerously, from one’s self. The cost of this can be devastating, as one can build a whole life that is essentially driven by a need to hide from dangers that are at best illusions.

One observation about your comment “Some folks on the outside engage in a similar game of designating the church as the enemy that will consume humanity if not combatted continually.” In view of the abundant evidence that corporate Scientology is collapsing, I don’t think that the ex’s and never-ins that I have spoken with believe there is much chance of the RCS somehow emerging renewed and recharged and becoming a global threat in any credible sense.

Despite that, it is still worth opposing that organization, because it is still capable of evil on a large scale (the various financial scams) as well as the banal everyday sort. For an example of the latter, witness the bullying of Mark Bunker and intimidation of innocent bystanders surrounding Bunker’s attempt to film the Portland Ideal Org opening last weekend. This appears to be the smallest-ever Ideal Org opening, despite probably the biggest-ever internal campaign to get people to show up. Yet despite the obviously pathetic results, there were probably more goons than ever before attempting to harass and intimidate people. So it still seems that vigilance and pressure is necessary to oppose these evils.

  5. Thank you, Marty. In Conversations with God, Neale Donald Walsch, gives only 2 emotional tone levels: Love and its direct opposite the Fear. Everything in between belongs to either the Love Band or the Fear Band. Although oversimplified, this drives home the valid point of the negative importance of fear. Fear is very bad.

That brings up the next logical point: any attacks on anything, even on the venomous Church of Scientology, would be an act of fear. We hate those bastards, don’t we? Especially big bad evil Dave. We are the Good and we fight with the Evil. They obviously deserve it. Well, the way I came to think, it is Fear talking, MEST talking, kicked in the head stupidity talking. Per definition, stupidity is not knowing the consideration. Whose consideration, everybody’s involved, their postulates, the things they pull in to themselves all on their own. That Boogie Man, stupidity, haunted all of us through the ages, starting by Aristotle with his black and white logic and Good/Bad morals and then marching on self-righteously through the ages, with Christianity, all the way to to here and now.

  6. Excellent post and so very true. Fear used to control. Fear of ethics. Fear of loosing your eternity. Fear of disconnection. Fear of discovery by the thought police. The crime? being human. And it goes.

Dr Bruce Lipton is a genius and proves that thought monitors structure from a scientific point of view. This video is a very good introduction to his work:

    Misha,
Interesting. Ron once said there were only two options a thetan exercises: grant life or beingness, or not (lecture: The Granting of Beingness). It is an interesting exercise to observe this for spells. Pretty damn workable. You can choose to invest life into, or animate, something or not (persons, communication, ideas, etc.). Anything beyond that is entering complexity.

  8. Good data, thanks!

  9. Marty

    Yes. Excellent.

The “tactics” of fear are those of “hide” and “avoid” in order to preserve some portion of your Dynamics, at the lower end, and “attack to disable or destroy”, at the upper end. At “fear” one has long ago abandoned the concept that he has any effective control over that which he fears.

So, now you look at Scientology Inc. (When I say “Scientology Inc”, I am talking about its management and staff personnel, from the top down)

Scientology Inc uses fear as its energy source. Fear is used to generate its income. Fear is used to force or inhibit the actions of its members. Fear is used to force or inhibit the actions of its “enemies”, and even its friends.

Scientology Inc’s continual use of fear as the tone to handle its Dynamics, has locked itself into that tone so thoroughly that it now acts as though it has an overall concept (fear) that were it to do anything else it would be overwhelmed and destroyed.

Through its wholesale use of fear, Scientology Inc has created an atmosphere of paranoia, both outward looking and inward looking, that extends from the very top, its leader, all the way down to individual public.

It has become the effect of its own cause.

  10. +1 This is “the way” of so many organizations (churches), and has been used to pry dollars and freedoms away from unsuspecting individuals. Awesome post!

  11. Marty, in his lecture series “The Wisdom of Your Cells,” he gives another analogy of a society continually withdrawing into their air raid shelters for fear of impending attacks from the enemy. When people are hiding out, nothing is happening to carry the society forward and eventually it will collapse. I have mentioned these lectures a number of times again recommend them highly. He gives a hard science backing to so many of LRH’s findings.

  12. JPC, the comment about financial scams is well taken. Those, for me, are just DM’s dramatization of the wide wide world of financial scamery emanating from the world’s financial centers. What goes on with Scn is truly a tempest in a teapot, but it is OUR teapot, so it is important. But in the bigger picture, a billion more or less means nothing.

  13. martyrathbun09

Thanks Dan. I finally got around to reading him. Fascinating stuff.

Dan & Marty – His lecture money and energy is also keen. Listen and think of how the IAS is draining the energy from the membership. This will guarantee the death of the organism, RCS, just as a cancer steals energy. Thank you Marty for the great OP. This also applies to putting on attention on moving on up, increasing awareness and ability and less on negative issues.

I absolutely loved Liptons book. I had so many cognitions from it, I was walking on air for days. Thanks Marty. Fear is the biggest cause of sickness on earth physically, mentally and spiritually. The people causing the fear in us are just as afraid as we are. It is a no win situation. Scientology inc is just a reflection of the state of the world today. Until we let go of this illusiom of fear and change ourselves spiritually, nothing on earth will change. At least not for the better.

  16. Fear may have become the main stock in trade inside the *Church* of Scientology but it’s also a close friend with DECEPTION.

  17. I’m reading Bruce Lipton’s recently published (1 May 2013) book: The Honeymoon Effect: The Science of Creating Heaven on Earth.

    So far, so good.

  18. Here is a fearless hero who kept his sanity:

“Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov (Russian: Станисла́в Евгра́фович Петро́в; born c. 1939) is a retired lieutenant colonel of the Soviet Air Defence Forces. On September 26, 1983, he was the duty officer at the command center for the Oko nuclear early-warning system when the system reported a missile being launched from the United States. Petrov judged that the report was a false alarm.[1] This decision is credited with having prevented an erroneous retaliatory nuclear attack on the United States and its NATO allies, which could have resulted in large-scale nuclear war. Investigation later confirmed that the satellite warning system had malfunctioned.[2]”

  19. Tom Campbell, physicist and consciousness researcher, also boils it down to love and fear. Here’s a short video giving his very perceptive description of fear, and how to overcome it. The first minute consists of some very good quotes of his and then the actual talk starts.

  20. Dani Lemberger

Marty, this is totally true. And Ron did note that the proper response to suppression, the effort by another to make you small, is “flourish and prosper.” One’s enemy will always try to make one meek and introverted. The handling is to stay alert, keep yourself extroverted and put most attention on expansion.

  21. Andrew, thanks for posting this. I cannot recommend this more highly. One can disregard my recommendation in another comment below to listen to his lecture series, which goes into a lot of depth. Just take an hour and watch this. Wow, this guy really brings it.

  24. I agree that the Church creates games on a very effect level to keep SCNists stuck and playing there. Makes them solid –fight etc. Stuff such as ‘theta clear’ are not even mentioned anymore. They’re not the goal anymore. The goal is to “”””””confront””””” those bad guys that are OUT THERE. An awakened being simply wouldn’t buy that stuff. So, they’re not interested to ‘make’ any.

  25. It’s all so much in reverse. Normally, if one felt an urgency to ‘do something about it’ you would need to run it, fix it. Now it is the ‘responsible’ thing to do –to create a problem and counter create it.

  26. Paul Durand

Great choice of topic, Marty….Even though few organizations and few people in them know it, Frederick II, from 19th century Prussia, is often seen as the person who first conceptualized the idea of using fear to cement organizations and to allow leaders to control the people in them.
He made a conscious choice that, under his rule, common soldiers would fear their own officers more than the enemy, and, in turn, he monitored his generals so closely that none could be trusted to perform independently. His genes is everywhere to be seen: in politics, religion, business and more.

I find Marty’s quote from Bruce Lipton really interesting. “A sustained protection response inhibits the creation of life-sustaining energy.” I had never heard this, but it makes a lot of sense. One day, my teacher told me: “Of all the states that a human being can be in, can live in, fear is the worst.” Im sure he told me that for a reason—I still have way more fear in my life that I would like—and I remember his words often.

JZ Knight (“Ranmtha” has interesting things to say about fear, she has a DVD on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKBYfnzOYeg from one of her workshops, where she explains that fear is not the fabrication of emotion but a biological, neurological place in the brain connected to the caudate nucleus. We are born with it. It is the result of persecution in life and centuries of being suppressed for our ideas, for being different, thus never making known the unknown. When fear is dominant in us, we never know joy and freedom of Spirit and are afraid to change. It is possible to conquer our fears and move beyond them when we work on our evolution and knowing ourselves. Joy then is not merely a fleeting emotion but a state of being that opens up fabulous opportunities and possibilities before us beyond our wildest dreams.

There is also an interesting book called Healing through the Dark Emotions: The Wisdom of Grief by Miriam Greenspan
Greenspan presents a re-framing of grief, fear, and despair that is spiritually uplifting: “Our only protection is in our interconnectedness. This has always been the message of the dark emotions when they are experienced most deeply and widely. Grief is not just ‘my’ grief; it is the grief of every motherless child, every witness to horror in the world. Despair is not just ‘my’ despair; it is everyone’s despair about life in the twenty-first century. Fear is not just ‘my’ fear; it is everyone’s fear — of anthrax, of nuclear war, of truck bombs, of airplane jackings, of things falling apart, blowing up, sickening and dying.
“If fear is only telling you to save your own skin, there’s not much hope for us. But the fact is that in conscious fear, there is a potentially revolutionary power of compassion and connection that can be mobilized en masse. This is the power of fear. Our collective fear, which is intelligent, is telling us now: Find new ways to keep this global village safe. … Leap out of the confines of national egos. Learn the ways of peace. “This will take all of our creative power and ingenuity, as much and more as the intelligence and power we have put into constructing smart bombs and nuclear warheads.”

We have a long way to go in terms of overcoming fear, a very primal,. Animal-like feeling, and becoming human beings who feel safe and at peace within themselves, and experience joy…

    Love to you all

Marty, thank you for this post on the RCS’s fear-mongering.

I began to observing this wth their “handling” of 911. I immediately loathed the prophecies of doom emanating from management which constantly warned and threatened “a new Dark Age” if I/we did not do so and so or such and such NOW. God, I hated that, and while thinking I was the only one with this reaction and that I’d better keep it to myself, still I obstinately refused to cooperate or do ANYTHING that I was being urged, warned, badgered, pressured to do – just on principle, simply because of the low-toned way it was being done, because of the outright threats of the world’s end if I didn’t give them whatever it was they wanted..

I began to actively distrust anything I would be “invited” (read “hounded”) to attend that emanated from management, as I knew it would be bad newsAND I would be asked for a lot of money. From 911 on, this fear-mongering continued unabated. Inwardly, I dug in my heels and avoided these “briefings”. I stopped trusting.

After 911, my unexpressed attitude toward the Sea Org and upper and middle management of the RCS was, , “F***k you. I don’t believe you, I don’t know how, but somehow I know you’re lying, you’re at best exaggerating, to get me to do what you want, and I’m not going to do it, so get lost!”

I never made the correlation between what they were doing and what Ron warned against in Scientology Zero until this post of yours. Right on the money. I can’t give specifics at this time, but when I withdrew from these things, and these people, and stopped going to Int Events, my stats on every dynamic went UP. And the funny thing is that I didn’t even know at the time, and haven’t known ’til now, that I was applying Scientology Zero!

  30. Michael, you wrote: “In Conversations with God, Neale Donald Walsch, gives only 2 emotional tone levels: Love and its direct opposite the Fear. Everything in between belongs to either the Love Band or the Fear Band. Although oversimplified, this drives home the valid point of the negative importance of fear.”

There was a time when I too would have considered having just two emotional categories – Love and Fear and everything in between belonging to either the love or fear band, as being ‘oversimplified.’ However, I no longer see it that way. I believe that truth is simple and I believe that, however many or few choices I seem to have, in truth, there are always only two – the choice between love or fear (the real or the unreal).

Here is and excerpt from Lesson 130 in A Course in Miracles:

“Who can really hate and love at once? Who can desire what he does not want to have reality? And who can choose to see a world of which he is afraid? Fear must make blind, for this its weapon is: That which you fear to see you cannot see. Love and perception thus go hand in hand, but fear obscures in darkness what is there.

“What, then, can fear project upon the world? What can be seen in darkness that is real? Truth is eclipsed by fear, and what remains is but imagined. Yet what can be real in blind imaginings of panic born? What would you want that this is shown to you? What would you wish to keep in such a dream?

“Fear has made everything you think you see. All separation, all distinctions, and the multitude of differences you believe make up the world. They are not there. Love’s enemy has made them up. Yet love can have no enemy, and so they have no cause, no being and no consequence. They can be valued, but remain unreal. They can be sought, but they can not be found.

“It is impossible to see two worlds which have no overlap of any kind. Seek for the one; the other disappears. But one remains. They are the range of choice beyond which your decision cannot go. The real and the unreal are all there are to choose between, and nothing more than these.”

  31. Really excellent post, really insightful comments. Please keep bringing this type of thing into the light. Thanks.

  32. Interesting concept for “spells”. I’m not sure I can simplify quite so much in living life, although I get the concept. One can also perceive, know and name his enemies whether it be from self preservation, fear or loathe. Granting of beingness is indeed a magic all unto itself in life, but common sense, obnosis along with a dose of intelligence is also a good thing.

  33. Financial scams, personal scams, is all the Church of Scientology is all about to an educated person. The amazing thing about Marty’s writings and others writings here, is that sometimes weeks after I have fully read something on Marty’s blog I have a HUGE cognition. It is always a cognition about why the tech works. Shouldn’t this be true about a church that says it relies on Dianetics and Scientology for its very beingness? It isn’t true of the Church of Scientology. The one cognition I never ever have, have never ever had about the Church of Scientology is how they are keeping Scientology working. The only real true cognites I ever get on them is a new fact of a previous overt they have acquired that was not fully looked at. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? 🙂 Now the Church of Scientology is saying that Karen De La Carriere was never trained by L. Ron Hubbard! Go figure! As I recall and as Karen recalls, SHE was brought to New York EXCLUSIVELY for the Flag World Tour Event, the first Class XII auditor trained by L. Ron Hubbard to visit New York. Now, the church says this is a lie. You probably have known this all along but sometimes I can’t get over how amazed I become in fact realizing my dealings with the Church of Scientology is nothing more than their O/W’s on me! Someone in my family (that observed this silently while it was going on) mentioned this to me. It is not like people are not here for a reason. I just wish it weren’t so in some way, but it is. Lesson learned from Marty Rathbun! 🙂

  34. In my opinion there is good fear and bad fear.

Good fear is acute fear, when something around is threatening us and calling for an immediate response, such as fight or flight. The body is then running in a special mode, dedicated to attack or defense, in order to create a boost of energy. Some processes are boosted, such as acceleration of heart and lung action, but others are inhibited, such as digestion, erection, the immune system, there is loss of hearing, tunnel vision, etc.

Bad fear is chronic fear that is transforming an emergency mode into a chronic mode, so that the body is out of balance and cannot work properly.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight-or-flight_response

  35. Great article Marty!

So let’s say the dichotomy (I don’t even know if that is correct as I am not fully trained) is White and Black (now, that I am thinking about it there is such a dichotomy. So White can be paralleled to Light, Truth, Knowledge and Black can be paralleled to Dark, Obscurity, Fear, Stupidity etc….

Fear not to look brings about more of the latter. Fear is dispersal and thus a thetan becomes primarily dispersed by fear. Knowing what is there lessens the fear and one can move on. Fear might be the first level on the tone scale as we go down that one becomes totally dispersed but there is also conservatism that (even though I don’t remember if it’s a ridge or a dispersal or even a flow, LRH in a lecture I remember describes the tone levels in such a way but I can’t remember the lecture) also makes the being withdraw in some ways. This is why, I believe LRH says in the PDCs that the going down starts at conservatism really and not antagonism where he usually says that the Reactive Mind Band starts. You say to your boss I have a great idea and he says “Oh really? Put it in writing!” Conservatism. There is some semblance between conservatism and fear as conservatism contains bits of fear in my opinion.

  36. Dan, have you read PDC tape # 36, Structure/Function:
    Selective Variation of?

LRH says why is it that Function is over Structure and I believe this man here is saying exactly this. From genes to Thought (he calls it Beliefs).

  37. Gern Gaschoen

The Scientology phenomenon is only ever going to be as ‘good’ as the society from which its members are derived.

If you have been brought up in a western culture, which economy is extremely dependent on protection, fear, eradication of the bad guy, denial of personal responsibility, and so on .. well, thats not all just going to be stripped away, instantly, when you go Clear: you’re going to get better at doing all of that. (The reason is, these things are 3rd-dynamic bank in restim, not 1st-dynamic.)

For a little while, you’re going to be the biggest Asshole you ever were, if you were an Asshole when you walked in the front door/read the first book/encountered your first Student Scientologist doing a body-route, etc.

Since the entire Int Management structure is, quite literally, littered with thugs and mobsters, ex-cons and pimps, it should be little surprise, to the trained Scientologist, that thus is the condition of the Scientology, Third Dynamic, as it stands today.

I always wondered in marvel (just for a little while anyway) as I watched the Int Clearance line dramatically expose this *fact* of Cleared Cannibalism: someone-someone “Mr. Executive of Insurance Company [x]” getting a fast-track up the lines to the fancy “other Sea Org” on the basis of their heavy ‘experience’ selling Insurance packages, and so on. “Mr. Heavy Dude” whose amazing Military Experience qualified him, instantly upon finishing a DMSMH course, for some vital OEC post “up-lines”. Someone-someone “Little Miss Thing” whose third-party brilliance propelled her through a few years of survival in the Celebrity culture, and so on.

What I wish to point out, is that the very society from which Scientology is currently body-routing, is the source for the dramatization we are seeing, through a big Thick Loupe, in the current Church. Apply Scientology to understand what I am saying, for that is what I am doing. Cleared Cannibal is a warning not well taken by those not privileged enough to have encountered the principle events which formulated the creation of the policy.

Incidentally, Cleared Cannibal’ism is responsible for a great deal many Schisms in the Independent scene too, and perhaps it is one of the benefits of escaping the fascist variety of Scientology: being able to compare that experience with the Independent similiars, and seeing thus, the Tech actually working. Cannibals are going Clear.

  38. Wow, this is such a profound education. So pro-survival. This guy is so theta.
Interestingly Scientology Zero is the first step to remove/replace those negative, counter-survival filters.
    Wow.
    Thanks for sharing.

  39. I think the correct technical term would be “consideration”.

  40. Theo, my thoughts exactly. Dr Lipton is giving the science behind what LRH said. And thank you Dan. I have been a student of Lipton’s for over 10 years, and believe he has much to contribute to our understanding of the interaction between thought and structure.

  41. Good article. I know that I started to become free after I stopped fearing what the consequences would be if I just looked at what was on the internet. Even that took a long time because I believed my eternity depended upon staying quiet. Looking had a snowball effect. Fear dissipated. Power over me diminished. Love of life was restored. Thanks for introducing Lipton’s theories on what seems to me to be what happened in my situation.

Scientology capitalizes on fear. Through deceptive practices, disconnection, through propaganda and consent.

  42. Marty, I have thanked you before for doing what you’re doing but I want to thank you again. Having access to a blog like yours, a facilitator like yourself and all those who choose to comment here, is integral to what I consider as being my wealth. Unfortunately, it has been a rarity for me to have the opportunity to be in a space (even if it is illusory) where so many viewpoints can comfortably assemble as student and teacher simultaneously and where give and take, be and have are one in the same. This blog of yours, I have discovered, is a ‘place’ that is most conducive to stripping away layer after layer of wallpaper (I very much suspect that the entire physical universe is nothing but layers upon layers upon layers of wallpaper).

    I remember many things here.

    Thank you.

  43. “smokes and mirrors” , the Truman show….The first time I read this my fear was gone , but while I was in fear I did feel my world and my body shrinking.
I haven’t read Lipton yet , still catching up with the reading list , but after a year away from Ron’s books and lectures (other than all the references listed by Friends of LRH) I am excited again to go back and listen with new understanding of life .
Years ago , I found my beautiful son sitting in the dark in the middle of the night , he seemed so small and in such pain and asked me if it was true that if he didn’t join the sea org the world would come to an end…freaking merchant of chaos at work.

  44. Paul Durand

Gretchen dewier writes: “Fear is the biggest cause of sickness on earth physically, mentally and spiritually.” That is so true…

I saw a 2007 study published by the International Institute for Society and Health which concluded that living with fear over a long period of time results in reduced physical functioning. Organ systems stop functioning at peak. Healthy individuals have a lower quality of life, get sicker more often and stay sicker longer. People with compromised systems suffer exacerbated effects of their illness. But as most are unaware of the cause, their weakened condition begins to feel like the status quo. Fear’s effect on mental health works in similarly hard-to-detect ways. Maybe when a person is young they have all these lofty aspirations about what they aspire to become and achieve. But after a while they conclude that their goals were not realistic, while they indeed were realistic. Often, fear is the cause behind this shrinking of what is seen as possible
Fear keeps some people trapped and prevents them from reaching the heights of someone with half of the potential.

Fear creates for people a prison for that is smaller than their potential boundaries. According to a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, one of fear’s sneakiest tricks is convincing people that the realm of possibility is more limited than it really is. Fear causes risk avoiding behavior. It tells us that we are not good enough or smart enough and robs us of what could have been.

One thing most successful people have is the ability to allay their fears. They’re not better or more talented than many others. They simply have the ability to see what they want and go get it, fear be damned. That’s why some very talented people sing in the subway while other less talented, people make millions and tour the world.

Fear can create the illusion that life is dangerous, fraught with risks, and that it should be lived with excessive caution. Scientists studying the effects of fear on people that had had exposure to some nuclear radiations (but had no symptoms from it) found significantly elevated rates of suicidal thinking and anxiety disorders, and rates of post-traumatic stress disorder and depression that had about doubled. And that fear, depression and suicidal thinking was passed on to their children like a deadly disease. Once raised in that culture of fear, these children carried irrational fear throughout their daily lives; and had poorer mental and physical health because of it. Scientists learned that people who lead fear-driven lives have children who follow suit. Fear is contagious and we transmit it to the ones we love most.

Fear not only destroys your physical and mental well-being, but that of those around you. It’s possible to experience a great tragedy and be harmed by it and recover, heal and move on, but fear, in all of its forms, can stalk people from generation to generation unless they learn to conquer it.

Overcoming fear is soooo important. For me I know ive got such a long way to go in this area. Marty thank you for bringing up this topic. I, we, need to let fear be replaced with contentment, peace, love that can be found in the moment. Fear is rooted in the past, and robs us from the present and from out future. It is so important to find the peace, the love in each moment, so that fear gets dispelled and we can enjoy life fully , as it is meant to be enjoyed!

A 2007 study published by the International Institute for Society and Health concluded that living with fear over a long period of time results in reduced physical functioning.

It is so important to find the peace, the love in each moment, so that fear gets dispelled and we can experience joy and enjoy life fully, as it is meant to be enjoyed..!

  46. Hi Marty – love your posts. They all broaden my horizons. Thanks.

  47. Andrew, one point he makes near the end of the lectures about all the good and bad in the world and how you approach it. I heard his Wisdom of Your Cells lectures several years ago and they blew my mind how much they validated LRH’s findings with hard science.

  48. Luckily, they don’t use checks here in Sweden! (Great message nonetheless.)

  49. gretchen dewire

The cause of fear is attachment. Fear of losing the things we have or not getting the things we “need” If we truly know “not intelectually” that we are an immortal soil or thetan as it is called in scientology calls it, there would be no cause for fear. That is what I signed on for in scientology, and what I understood from my study the tech would accomplish. Getting there however was a joke. To much mest entanglements for me.So now I am persuing other methods. You have been a great help Marty in letting go of my dissapointment in scientology and moving on, hoprfully up a little higher.

  50. From the Bruce Lipton quote included in Marty’s post: “Consequently, a sustained protection response inhibits the creation of life-sustaining energy. The longer you stay in protection, the more you consume your energy reserves, which in turn, compromises your growth.”

A ‘sustained protection response’ might as easily be phrased; a sustained defense response.

Also from the Lipton quote: ” humans unavoidably restrict their growth behaviors when they shift into a protective mode….Redistributing energy reserves to fuel the protection response inevitably results in curtailment of growth…” One does not have to stretch their wits much to see the sense in what is being stated by Dr.Lipton. It seems that in any 3D life form that this consequence of restricted growth would hold true whenever energy is being directed to fuel protection/defense. However, when it comes to a spiritual being, would the same mechanic hold true? It seems to me that it would hold true ONLY if the spiritual being thoroughly identified with being and having a form – human or other. And, in my view, any spiritual being being in a condition where it perceives a need to identify with form, is a sick spiritual being. Could it be that pretending to be human, or pretending to have a form of any kind, is a means by which a spiritual being is protecting/defending itself? If that is the case, then the obvious question to follow…what exactly, is the spiritual being protecting/defending itself from?

Could it possibly be that spiritual beings created an illusion of matter, energy, space and time (the physical universe) as a means of protection….a means of defense? And if this is so, might not this expand the reach, the meaning, of what Dr. Lipton is describing and offer some explanation as to why it has been so difficult for a spiritual being, associated with the physical universe illusion, to begin, much less sustain, moving on up a little higher?

My lesson today in A Course in Miracles (lesson 136) had to do with sickness and defense. Following are a few excerpts and a link if anyone might want to take a look at the entire lesson.

“No one can heal unless he understands what purpose sickness seems to serve. For then he understands as well its purpose has no meaning. Being causeless and without a meaningful intent of any kind, it cannot be at all. When this is seen, healing is automatic. It dispels this meaningless illusion by the same approach that carries all of them to truth, and merely leaves them there to disappear.

“Sickness is not an accident. Like all defenses, it is an insane device for self-deception. And like all the rest, its purpose is to hide reality, attack it, change it, render it inept, distort it, twist it, or reduce it to a little pile of unassembled parts. The aim of all defenses is to keep the truth from being whole. The parts are seen as if each one were whole within itself.

“Defenses are not unintentional, nor are they made without awareness. They are secret, magic wands you wave when truth appears to threaten what you would believe. They seem to be unconscious but because of the rapidity with which you choose to use them. In that second, even less, in which the choice is made, you recognize exactly what you would attempt to do, and then proceed to think that it is done.

“Who but yourself evaluates a threat, decides escape is necessary, and sets up a series of defenses to reduce the threat that has been judged as real? All this cannot be done unconsciously. But afterwards, your plan requires that you must forget you made it, so it seems to be external to your own intent; a happening beyond your state of mind, an outcome with a real effect on you, instead of one effected by yourself.”

  51. While looking the short movie I thought to myself: what a nice reason for people to use dianetics. Actually, although I don’t think that he read a lot dianetics, the things and the way he describes it is pretty consistent with what LRH wrote in the early beginnings of dianetics.
Fits very well into the dianetics concept and its basic philosophy (survive-succumb, pleasure-pain). With the additional model of the reactive mind as a reactive supply of “subconscious environmental impulses” and how those influence body, behavior and psycho-somatics his theories and dianetics benefit greatly from each other. I am sure LRH would like his theories and his approach as well.

  52. gretchen dewire

I am not so sure I believe that l understand or believe that last statement you made above. What about the subconscious or reactive mind? I dont believe you arenot responsible for making things happen, just not aware of them on a conscious level.

  53. one of those who see

You wrote: “Years ago , I found my beautiful son sitting in the dark in the middle of the night , he seemed so small and in such pain and asked me if it was true that if he didn’t join the sea org the world would come to an end…freaking merchant of chaos at work.”

Thank you for posting this. It says it all.

I have never had an opportunity to sit in on one of these recruitment cycles of our young. Would love more info on what is said to them. I have kind of gleaned that fear tactics are used in recruitment.

Hundreds if not thousands of Kids gave up their own goals and purposes to join the sea org because of “pending disaster.” Most of them find they don’t belong there and come out having lost out on those important late teen early 20’s years where one is figuring out what you want to do in the world. They are now branded X – Sea Org for the rest of their Church Lives. Can’t go on regular staff either. Some are asked to move out of state!

Of course all that is gone out here in Independent Field. What a relief!

One more rant: CC Int recruits young artists into the Sea Org. How many families had a wonderful singer/dancer/ actress etc… as their son or daughter. they go to CCINT for service of course – being an artist. Then get recruited with these fear tactics. The young artist then routes out having lost 4 -5 years of training. Now what? If a dancer doesn’t dance from age 18 – 24….Not sure how many can get back to it.

LRH wanted Scientologists to be on the comm lines of the world. Miscavige killed that dream with the Sea Org Recruitment methods used on our kids. I do see that LRH also had his hand in this as well with things like “5 years left.”

  54. Tom Gallagher

“At bottom, the whole concern of religion is with the manner of our acceptance of the universe.”
    -William James

  55. “Whoever can see through all fear will always be safe.”

Just spoke to a couple of OTs who were declared suppressive for looking on the internet. No longer afraid.

Imagine the viewpoint of someone who is terrified of another “looking.”

One is not obligated to wear the fear that another cannot and will not confront.

    Just LOOK.

  56. Thank you – yet again for another “getting real” post.

“To be nobody-but-yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody but yourself – means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight – and never stop fighting.”
    e.e. Cummings

  57. “Now the Church of Scientology is saying that Karen De La Carriere was never trained by L. Ron Hubbard! Go figure! As I recall and as Karen recalls, SHE was brought to New York EXCLUSIVELY for the Flag World Tour Event, the first Class XII auditor trained by L. Ron Hubbard to visit New York.”
I remember this too. Truth, lies, who cares……..the Church of Scientology has no preference which is used as long as it forwards their current agendas. I wish this were not so also, but what is, IS. It is an incredible betrayal. It spells NO integrity. And it is a big loss for those who have been dedicated to this organization.
It is time for Scientologists to face up to facts, observe what we observe, and shout it from the roof tops. No more lies. No more bullshit. No more pretending out tech is in tech. No more fear. Because the long term consequences of not standing up are far greater than anything that Miscavige’s wannabe “mobsters” can dish out. His “weapon” is our fear. He seeks to export his own fear of others to everyone else in order to gain more control over others. Our silence is the only thing that could possibly result in the loss of the subject.
Thanks for exposing still another lie, Lawrence.

  58. martyrathbun09

Save your vocal chords. Its in the DNA.

  59. Marty,
Great post, it is very appropriate and well timed as well.

I feel like it has been enough for me, and I’m ready to move on.

The idiots have an avalanche coming their way; karma will run its course and take care of all parties, the flow has finally reversed for the church of Scientology.

I wonder if fear is at the very core of the Serv Fac phenomena.

The fear of not surviving? The illusion of extinction?

In any case, it feels like it was just another bad dream.

Thanks for everything you have done.

  60. Andrew – this MIND BLOWING. Many thanks for sharing. Amazing – watch it!

  61. Great post, Marty. I’ve known since the first auditing session I received in 1970, that love was an essential ingredient in a successful session. Not a syrupy, low-toned mockery, or 2D flow, but genuine affinity for the person being audited. This idea, of course, had to be suppressed in the C of $, and would have been termed “theetie-weetie”, especially in the later years.

And a common denominator of bad auditing? Fear, on the part of the auditor.
Fear of being thought incompetent, fear of not CONTROLLING the preclear, fear of seniors, etc. etc.

The more I audit and train outside the Church, the more it has been confirmed for me, how essential love is – to all that is worthwhile.

Lennon and McCartney said it very well:

    Love, love, love.
    Love, love, love.
    Love, love, love.

There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done.
Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game.
    It’s easy.

Nothing you can make that can’t be made.
No one you can save that can’t be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
    It’s easy.

    All you need is love.
    All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
    Love is all you need.

    All you need is love.
    All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
    Love is all you need.

Nothing you can know that isn’t known.
Nothing you can see that isn’t shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.
    It’s easy.

    All you need is love.
    All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
    Love is all you need.

All you need is love (all together, now!)
All you need is love. (everybody!)
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need (love is all you need).

    Yee-hai!
    Oh yeah!
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah.
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah.
    –John Lennon and Paul McCartney

  62. The Oracle

Marty, the things you hold up for people to look at are in the Aesthetic range.

I think the biggest fear people have, is fear of themselves. What the potential is. What they will or might do under certain conditions. Growing on some level is overcoming the fears of yourself.

Let me make up a sec check that everyone can win on.

“Did you ever pick up a marble and use it to choke yourself?”

“Did you ever bury your own head alive?”

“Did you ever nail yourself to a cross?”

Everything else we probably did ourselves.

  63. “I think the biggest fear people have, is fear of themselves. What the potential is. What they will or might do under certain conditions. Growing on some level is overcoming the fears of yourself. ”

Oracle, that sounds very true to me!

  64. Fear and seduction (pretty boys for girls, pretty girls for boys) is what is used mainly under the décor of idealism, but ultimately there is the skewed doubt formula that does not give a choice…apparently…I have not been to the briefings themselves but horror stories are the norm.
I didn’t let my children join as fear is not the right tone for such a decision , even if they couldn’t see it themselves.

  65. Spyros, Marty…

Speaking of going backwards and the subject of fear…

    F.E.A.R… By Ian Brown…

  66. Fear. What is fear? It is an emotion below anger, it is a word, it is the name of a top selling PC video game. I am not in fear of no one or nothing. The biggest MU I ever had on the whole track was misunderstanding what and who a modern Church of Scientology is after locating one listed in the back of a Dianetics book I had just finished reading for the first time in 10th grade. That is or was my greatest fear. Preventing that from ever happening again is my greatest joy in life. It is a sense of freedom only some people hope for but only several achieve. 🙂

  67. one of those who see

    Bravo to you!

  68. Yes it is Martin. I remember the first time I saw it to this day. Kind of like when I first read Dianetics. I just couldn’t believe the simplicity and completeness of the work.

  69. Chris, thanks much for posting this video. I really like it!

  70. I believe that all fear pertains to loss, whether it is spirituality, love, status, economics, etc. Thank you Marty for this blog.

  71. Lawrence….

  72. The Oracle

You know, we have these sec checks in Scientology. They are pretty fundamental. What if each person were to list their fears about what they could possibly do to themselves? It seems it would be far more extreme that what other could or would do to you. Of course, that also depends on who you are and where you are at. Being the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time is an issue. But let’s say that is on the back burner. Let’s say you are the right person in the right place at the right time. For instance, weren’t we all the right people, in the right place, at the right time, in Scientology? It starts out that way. No matter who you are or where you come from you feel at that first closing you were the right person at the right place at the right time. Or, did you not? This is what I assumed. I did not feel I was in the right place at the right time with the right people. But I was. Slowly I discovered I was right about that and wrong about that at the same time. Right there, there was a separation. Inside of me. Anyway, there are the flows. I started out with the fears of what I could do to myself. But by the time I was through HQS I was over that. I was not afraid of what I would do to myself. I was not afraid of what I would do to others. I was suddenly afraid of “The Past”. It was all about “The Past”. I actually had not been afraid of “The Past” before I got involved. But I got the message it was “My past” that was cause over my “Now”. O.K. I could go on and on and you all know what I mean anyway. You get dragged left right and center. But I think there is only one relevant cognition a person needs in Scientology to “arrive at cause”. Over matter, energy space and time. And that is when a person realizes he is responsible for his own condition. I finished HQS at 16, I got Integrity processing (with NO case gain until responsibilty processing added into it) at 16. I DID not walk out of the org in a state of euphoria. In fact I was pretty caved in. But I knew I was responsible for that condition. And I was at cause there. What a fucking bummer to get to at age 16. I watch all of these people bitch and moan about what was done to them and Geeze, 40 years in this and a person still can’t own it? I know an OT8 comp right now bawling all over the net about “other peoples short comings” and how it has knocked out his ruds! He has not thought for a moment to pick up the cans and fly his own ruds. I know a “group” of “Independents” (talk about a GPM, Independents are not surviving through a group) that are “sorting out who and what is to blame”. Why I choose to visit this blog, is that Marty does not ENABLE people with this bullshit that OTHERS are responsible for his condition, or your condition. He is not wooing people over here with a sympathic, “Your tr’s were done all wrong.” There are a LOT of people involved with Scientology that assumed they could make others responsible for their condition. The Sea Organization was the gift to those in this purpose. The LOWEST form of responsibility is making someone else responsible for your bridge, food, bed, and all other conditions. Yet there are people out here attesting to the work ability of all that. None of these people are OTs.
You can not be cause over matter energy space and time if you can not be cause over your own condition. There are people in this theater that can not and will not be at cause over their own condition. It is too much of a burden for them, but yet they expect someone else to carry it with no problem. Too fucking funny right?

  73. Summerwind

You see what you have chosen to behold…nothing more.
Fear is of the ego not of the spirit.

  74. Here there is something that I use when I’m beginning to feel frozen by fear, whether it is self generated or other generated. It helps me push the envelope and break away from the condition:

“As you watch, you learn that the observer is merely a bundle of ideas and memories without any validity or substance, but that fear is an actuality and that you are trying to understand a fact with an abstraction which, of course, you cannot do. But in fact, is the observer who says, ‘I am afraid’, any different from the thing observed which is fear? The observer is fear and when that is realized there is no longer any dissipation of energy in the effort to get rid of fear, and the time-space interval between the observer and the observed disappears. When you see that you are a part of fear, not separate from it-then you cannot do anything about it; then fear comes totally to an end.”

    http://www.jkrishnamurti.org/krishnamurti-teachings/view-daily-quote/20130322.php?t=Fear

  75. Thanks for the info on fear Paul — could you provide a link to the 2007 International Institute for Society and Health study on fear, if it is online?

  76. Over the years I have personally debriefed several kids on those recruitment efforts. The recruiters (who were kids themselves, kids who typically went to school with the kid they are recruiting) out and out accuse the kid of being an out-ethics, SP loser for refusing to take responsibility for the state of the world and acting to make sure that it survives.

They are cruel and coercive. They prey on the kid’s fear of being seen as the odd man out, the bad guy and the loser who is incapable and degraded. It goes on for hours on this theme. The recruiters outright lie about conditions in the Sea Org, about how postings work, days off, schooling free auditing and training. The most blatant lies are used to recruit musicians — I have personally seen at least a half dozen young musicians recruited to got to Gold — of course they were never posted to Gold, and no time for music is allowed.

They are so young and so naive that they don’t know that they are lying, so there is no arguing with them. They have an incredibly high level of certainty for they really are true BELIEVERS running 100% on faith in their parents, in their S.O. seniors and in LRH. 100% and no doubts.

  77. How quickly the church’s lies are spotted these days. Years ago, those false stories about people would have gone unchecked for years. Now whose running the show? 🙂 The Church of Scientology has to be very cautious these days about what they say to whom, when and why, because somebody may just know the truth and not be unwilling to out them! 🙂 About the videos…I like the video of you and Tory on the reg cycle where she is worried about giving the reg her credit cards. 🙂

  78. Donna

Yes, I think you are right on that. “…all fear pertains to loss.”

Excuse while I play with that one a little.

I find that the concept of loss spans both the spiritual and physical realms.

And “Loss” appears to always be in terms of lessened cause over one’s beingness, doingness or havingness, ie. lessened self-determinism. (the consideration that one might become unwilling effect)

One could restate that as, “All fear is fear of becoming unwilling effect.”

One could take that one step further and propose that, if the above is held as true, then the dissolution of fear would be accomplished by increasing one’s willingness to experience anything.

Now where have I heard that as a “rule for happy living”?…

    “Be willing to experience anything.”

    Eric

  79. The Oracle

So true! If you care about the person in front of you that in itself is going to improve their condition! It is huge therapy for a person to care about them!

  80. The Oracle

“One is not obligated to wear the fear that another cannot and will not confront.” Amen!

  81. The Oracle

A lot of truth in that. I didn’t know what terror was until I had kids. One day they went out riding bikes on a mountain trail and vanished into thin air. For about 30 minutes while searching for them, I felt as if all the oxygen had been sucked off the planet. I only bounced up to anger when I found some stranger had invited them in for a drink of kool aid and they has been sucking it up until they were bloated.

  82. The Oracle

…. if he didn’t join the sea org the world would come to an end…

That was so wrong on so many levels. The guilt trips are very, very heavy in the Scientology theater. And it is such a wrong and wasteful cause. Because when you get to the end of the tunnel, (there is an end), you discover you are an innocent. The only reason the red carpet rolls out for those of us honestly lifted by this magic.

  83. The Oracle

By “innocent” I don’t mean to imply “holiness” or “free from wrongdoing”.

    in·no·cent (n-snt)

    Uncorrupted by evil, malice.
    Not dangerous or harmful; innocuous.
    Candid; straightforward.
    Suggesting no deception or guile.
A simple, guileless, inexperienced, or unsophisticated person.
Not corrupted or tainted with evil or unpleasant emotion.
Having or showing the simplicity or naiveté of an unworldly person.
    Uninformed or unaware; ignorant.
    A simple-minded person.

But mainly, and I add this as my own take on innocent, unsuspecting.

  84. The Oracle

I agree. There is a positive and negative on it. When you do the thing that scares you, that is kind of very therapeutic.

  85. The Oracle

LAUGHTER! I found the “cleared cannibal” policy letter to be very 1.1.
That was Hubbard excusing himself away from the product. I myself would have been exasperated. I do not believe myself that someone actually going clear, would continue to unmock his fellow man and gobble them up. I think a whole lot of “clears” are a long distance from clear. I know one who said they went clear reading the Dianetics book, and attested. From my own personal view, that person is about as clear as swamp in North Carolina. The data on the Clearing Course platens is vital information. The majority of clears have never seen it. It is the “code” program for the human race. It brings one to understanding of the human nature. Forget about “find out who you really are”. You have to “find out who they really are” too. Ethics goes on all flows too. The ethics book teaches on a stuck flow. You have to expand that to spill onto the flows before you are really think with conditions. “Conditions” is at clear on the grade chart. You learned about these conditions originally on the Clearing Course platens. Frankly, I don’t believe there are “cleared cannibals”. And I think suggesting your customers and students are that fucked up is telling of some misdeeds. That is criticism.

  86. The Oracle

Spells? Magic? Oh your are so MONEY! Yes, “You can choose to invest life into, or animate, something or not ..” Yes. Yes. Yes.

“It is quite remarkable that the magician attempts directly to use spirits to perform his will.” from a Lecture given on 29 January 1958, The History of Clearing by L Ron Hubbard.

“But mysticism/occultism isn’t our source. Our source, actually, is magic. Magic is something that, today, is performed on a stage with prestidigitation. But magic actually has a much more vivid and noble history than a stage magician. It is quite remarkable that the magician attempts directly to use spirits to perform his will. And that is his basic modus operandi. That is his goal in practicing magic.”from a Lecture given on 29 January 1958, The History of Clearing by L Ron Hubbard.

“Scientology has opened the gates to a better World. It is not a psycho-therapy nor a religion. It is a body of knowledge which, when properly used, gives freedom and truth to the individual.” This is from 1954 edition of COHA.

Let’s explore this body of knowledge and where we could comfortably place it. I believe it is very much in a magic dynamic.

    Take this for instance.

    Magical formulae

A magical formula is generally a name, word, or series of letters whose meaning illustrates principles and degrees of understanding that are often difficult to relay using other forms of speech or writing. It is a concise means to communicate very abstract information through the medium of a word or phrase, usually regarding a process of spiritual or mystical change. Common formulae include INRI, IAO, ShT, AUMGN, NOX, and LVX.
These words often have no intrinsic meaning in and of themselves. However, when deconstructed, each individual letter may refer to some universal concept found in the system that the formula appears. Additionally, in grouping certain letters together one is able to display meaningful sequences that are considered to be of value to the spiritual system that utilizes them .

    So take these for instance:

    ARCX
    LX’s
    L10
    DEDDEDEX
    LFBD
    CCH
    TR’s
    T/A
    3P

    Etc.

Well, this is just for starters.

What are P.C. folders? Why are P.C. folders?

    Magical record

A magical record is a journal or other source of documentation containing magical events, experiences, ideas, and any other information that the magician may see fit to add. There can be many purposes for such a record, such as recording evidence to verify the effectiveness of specific procedures (per the scientific method that Aleister Crowley claimed should be applied to the practice of magick) or to ensure that data may propagate beyond the lifetime of the magician. Benefits of this process vary, but usually include future analysis and further education by the individual and/or associates with whom the magician feels comfortable in revealing such intrinsically private information.

Crowley was highly insistent upon the importance of this practice. As he writes in Liber E, “It is absolutely necessary that all experiments should be recorded in detail during, or immediately after, their performance (…) The more scientific the record is, the better. Yet the emotions should be noted, as being some of the conditions. Let then the record be written with sincerity and care; thus with practice it will be found more and more to approximate to the ideal.” Other items he suggests for inclusion include the physical and mental condition of the experimenter, the time and place, and environmental conditions, including the weather.

So being, P.C. Folders can be regarded as magical records.

Oh yes, finding out where you are, is part of noticing conditions.

  87. The Oracle

You can walk into a building with the label “Church” on it. And the receptionist can inform you that you are in a Church. And the people there can tell you “You are in a religion” “You are a member of the Church. You are part of this religion”.

But it is still on you to find out where you REALLY are.

  88. The Oracle

You know, Hubbard was very, very forthcoming about this in the beginning. The first people to arrive as students, they were empowered. They could read the books. They could audit. They could think with the “Scientology”. They went clear. They made clears. Everything was hunky dorey. Everyone was V.G.I.s. They perceived themselves as dabbling in the occult and they were willing to manage those forces and conditions.

You compare those people to the people who showed up later who perceived themselves as religious devotees. Militia. Involved with “religion” and “policing the nation (getting ethics in on the planet) and wow, did the whole theater devolve into some sticky black magic.

I suggested to a class 9 C/S, Scientology was magical, and this enturbulated him to no end. You have a guy here, dabbling in magic (it is scientific, very much so, perhaps the only true science) for decades not even knowing or being able to own the truth about his life.

People have some issues with words. What they can associate with. Some people only associate. The people who associate Scientology with the occult and the supernatural, are going to be a whole ‘nother breed than someone free falling though that with the goal of harnessing the miscreants in this section of the galaxy, and the people free falling though that with the purpose of becoming a “Jesus healer”. Or a “holy man”.

You have different groups attracted to this activity because of various symbols and words and they stick on different purpose lines and get stuck in GPM’s and op terming.

Well, maybe a lot of us are / were too innocent. In a way of being unsuspecting.

Hey, maybe everyone is really alright! Did you ever think about that?

Excluding that tacky stage magician David Miscavige.

    Maria:

I just found again the article where I had first read about the study. Here it is.
    http://www.newsonhealthcare.com/the-physical-and-mental-effects-of-fear/
Unfortunately the author mentions about the study but does not provide a link.

I found the organization that had sponsored this particular study on fear:
    http://www.ucl.ac.uk/iish
They have a search widget on their site, I did a quick search and could not find the study, but they had more than 1,000 results for a search on “fear”.

Here is an interesting article on fear, with many references:
    http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/article/3053/

I also liked this article https://www.boundless.com/psychology/emotions/examining-fear/examining-learned-fear/ which asserts that we learn fear through conditioning and observation.

I was just reading that political psychologist Drew Westen of Emory University, author of the book “The Political Brain: The Role of Emotion in Deciding the Fate of the Nation” says: “In politics, the emotions that really sway voters are hate, hope and fear or anxiety, but the skillful use of fear is unmatched in leading to enthusiasm for one candidate and causing voters to turn away from another.”

According to him, half a century of research has shown that fear is one of the most politically powerful emotions a candidate can tap, especially when the fears have a basis in reality. Candidates who exploit voters’ fears and anxieties grab attention in a way that other appeals, such as those to experience, competence, vision or even anger (a close second to fear in its power to move voters) do not. That qualifying “skillful” underlines psychologists’ more-sophisticated understanding of the use of fear in politics. According to him, bew studies show that the genie of fear is most effective if let out of its bottle with more finesse than by yanking off the stopper and wildly flinging the contents all over Iowa and New Hampshire. Through surveys and brain scans, political psychologists and campaign strategists are refining the understanding of the power of fear. The result is new insights into how voters respond to having their anxieties stoked; how playing to fears and anxieties can affect voters’ views on issues seemingly unrelated to those that incite fear; how fear is wielded most effectively as a scalpel rather than a cudgel, and how the power of fear can be squared with the political truism that the candidate who best projects hope tends to win.
According to him, it is as pointless for anyone to rail against the use of fear to sway voters as it is to bemoan humans’ inability. The amygdala in the brain processes perceptions and thoughts and tags them with the warning “Be afraid, be very afraid!”. There is good reason for the fear circuitry to be laid down first, explains neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux of NYU. Proto-humans who lacked a well-honed fear response did not survive long enough to evolve higher-order thinking; unable to react quickly and intuitively to rustling bushes or advancing shadows, they instead became some carnivore’s dinner. Fear evolved because it promotes survival by triggering an individual to respond instantly to a threat—that is, without cogitating on it until the tiger has pounced. Human brains that detect fear and act on it act in many ways in everyone’s best interest.

The challenge is to distinguish genuine fear from malicious manipulation

I remember this comic, it was in prehistorical times, this neanderthal-looking man man spoke to others people of his tribe and said: “How can my opponent in this election defend you against the bogeyman, he does not even believe in it…” …

  90. The Oracle

I think there is some fear of magic. You can label it something else though and people rush in the front door. Don’t know why Hubbard put the “Church” through so many identities. It shape shifted. But I think it was a loving reason behind it. He seemed to want to pull the magicians, the holy men, and the loyal officers out and beyond the spells cast upon us. Maybe we were his favorites.

  91. With the note that sanity dictated some maskes, but nevertheless i remember how the Church of Scientology chilled many peoples bones back in the day.

Maria, I believe this is what you are looking for.

  94. Yet the spirit can be hurt and diminished if you follow the teachings of hubbard, Remember even eople that do not believe in a soul or spirit have given their life on earth for the greater good they precieved so fearlessness or selfsacrifice are not preserved for believers in the afterlife, reincarnation or even scientologists.

Sometimes it just comes down to doing the right thing and damn the consequentses

  95. Just checking to see if this post will be permitted.

  96. I MUST BE THE ENEMY BEACUSE I WAS NOT WITH BUSH

‘L. It is the old organized crime protection racket.”

  97. T.O. I hope you are right about the nonexistence of the ‘cleared cannibal’!

  98. one of those who see

Thank you for this data Maria. I think this is another important area to expose to the light: The methods of recruitment used on our children to recruit them. And then, since most of them leave the SO after a few years – how are they made to feel about that? Since comm lines are so cut in the church I am concerned that some of them don’t have terminals to talk to. This may belong even more on Mike Rinders Blog at this point. I may bring it up there too.

  99. Well, another thing to consider is, WHAT is being cleared away.

Sure there is the reactive mind. But what about stuff that is NOT part of the reactive mind? People seem to think or get the idea if they clear out the reactive mind they have cleared out EVERYTHING! Really? Probably because they read that “spirit, anaytical mind, reactive mind, body” description.

So, where does the being store his identities is that?
Where does the being store his purposes in that?
Where does the being store his goals in that?

How does one CLEAR out some of that closet?

There is obviously MORE to clear out than just the reactive mind.

Hell, I have seen people totally keyed in to their analytical mind!

Why would someone need an analytical mind? The analytical mind is full of false information and all sorts of other madness.

Still, you get someone that pokes around and figures out that reactive mind set up and then it is gone. O.K.. But now you are out there tapped into the supernatural, and there is more you find getting in the way.

Oh yes, a lot more. That doesn’t mean the person didn’t clear their reactive mind. What about the people that clear it out and mock it right back up? That happens too.

The reactive mind is POLICY. POLICIES a thetan makes for them self or accepts from others to live by. PURPOSES are SENIOR to policy. Don’t you think if someone does handle their reactive mind, they ought to pause to handle the PURPOSE for mocking it up? Because if you don’t go there and handle that, you have pulled a weed and left the roots.

David Miscavige is NOT A CLEAR. The church has become in a large part a FILE CLERK. Folders upon folders upon folders upon folders. The entire activity approximates the PURPOSE of having a reactive mind. Your PAST is continually thrown up in your face to CONTROL you.

And that is why, for me, the L12 was the bomb. It was PURPOSE CLEARING.

  100. “A person with a reactive mind” is actually an identity.

  101. Heh heh, technically you could just clear out that identity. L12 also addresses identities. On Dianetics you poke around at unwanted pains emotion sensations and attitudes. Well hell, that is make up on an identity. A whole identity is stuck to that reactive mind. You can get the thetan to give that part of the identity up, but it is part of a complex system now .

Well, why wouldn’t someone just mock up being an identity with out a reactive mind? AGAIN.

Well, people do! Anthony Robbins is pushing an identity that does not have a reactive mind. His entire career is built on cheering people up that made a different choice.

Some people just do that and some people struggle with it. It was an identity already abandoned for a REASON. So by the mere fact you are working to make an identity with no reactive mind, out of an identity that has a reactive mind, you are PUSHING the thetan into a G.P.M.. So, you have to get in there and iron out some wrinkles. Push him along here and there. Hell, people buy gadgets all the time they have trouble with or wish they hadn’t bought.

It is ALL doable. Depending on if that other thetan has a PURPOSE to live as an identity with out a reactive mind, that is not colliding with their PUPOSE to live as an identity WITH a reactive mind.

  102. Wow! Thanks for all the info on this!

  103. I guess, possibly, when Hubbard developed the L’s, and the research was going on, I guess some people figured this out. Maybe Hubbard already knew it or maybe he figured it out then. But I think the L’s was the last of the great breakthroughs with the tech. And it threatened to undermine a lot of earlier work. Things got very, very dark after the L’s were released. Right away.

The fees on the back end were SOOO astronomical, as if to make up for bridge skipped because someone just set aside an identity they struggled with. Then you know, you don’t have to spend on that identity. Just let it go you know, keep it moving.

Don’t like your beingness? Mock up a new one! I don’t have the dates of the release of the L’s or the class Xll materials. I know there were only a few Class Xll’s made.

That tech, although very elementary, FAR simpler than the new OT levels, was kept was out of reach, and under lock and key so NOBODY profited financially but Hubbard and his personal guard.

I can’t begin to imagine how it is being used to fuck people up with the GAOT (Golden Age of Treason) .

But, when I lay outside on the desert floor with my dogs, light a smoke and stare at the sky, these are some of the things I think about.

“What was going through his mind?”

And sometimes, I can figure it out. And when I do, I laugh and laugh and laugh. It always seems very comical!

  104. Technically, you could undercut all case with this.

“What kind of identity would have an OT_____ case”?

Then you just handle the identity if it is no longer wanted and needed.

And have you ever noticed a lot of this did not bother you until it was opposed as “case”, and your identity therefore was opposed because you had it?

  105. Gern Gaschoen

You have an understanding, and I have one too. I’m going to simply assume you’re interested in my position, or else you wouldn’t have replied. But I think you got something not quite right here:

    >That was Hubbard excusing himself away from the product.

Hubbard wasn’t making any excuses: he made the observation that, even though an individual themselves may be Clear, the third-dynamic itself has its own Case condition, too, and this fact of observation tremendously assisted in attaining the OT states, because actually case must be addressed on all dynamics if one expects to be able to go exterior, stably.

Cannibal’ism isn’t a personal condition. It is a GROUP case condition. Personal Clearing is, factually, a single step up the Bridge which spans: All Dynamics, all Flows, all Conditions.

  106. Gern Gaschoen

    > I know an OT8 comp right now bawling all over the net about “other peoples short comings” and how it has knocked out his ruds

He’s got some un-addressed 3rd-dynamic Case, of the Cannibal’istic variety.

    >You can not be cause over matter energy space and time if you can not be cause over your own condition.

.. *AND* that of others, across all 8 dynamics.

  107. Hmm I remember reading about the invader forces, that they entered this universe for the purpose of conquering it…

  109. Fear: the feeling/sensation that because of a change in circumstance, what you felt was permanent is disappearing. Your house is now going to be destroyed because of a tornado. Your job is over because a new company bought it and you are out. Your long time love just met someone new. Your hair is turning gray. Your children are moving away.

BUT the truth is, that IS life: impermanence.

Rather than fight it, contemplating impermanence can bring about a great opportunity to watch your mind – see your fear and rather than react against it, decide to acknowledge it.

    Confront – as it is.

Use fear as a motivation to practice whatever you’ve chosen/found as a daily practice … meditation, prayer, auditing, even running or gardening.

  110. Donna, I believe that all fear pertaining to loss is just looking at one side of the coin. Existing in a universe of duality, there is always the other side of the coin to consider. Therefore, I believe that fear is not only about loss but it’s also about getting. Getting ‘something’ (an experience) that is not wanted. But, having said that, I’m now asking myself whether or not the fear of getting something that is not wanted is actually hinged on the high probability of there being a loss. As I ponder this, it does seem to be the case. Well then, Donna, I do believe you’re correct when you state that…”all fear pertains to loss.” And what is loss but separation. Loss is being separated from something. And I suspect that all this craziness that we’re trying to move up and away from (to higher states) is directly linked to, whether real or imagined, an instant of separation.

  111. It seems to me that fear is an emotion experienced in the present that is all wrapped up in the perceived and evaluated likely probability of the future.

Transgressions are of the past, guilt is in the now and fear is of the future.

  112. Very moving video about Alexander. I say lift the statute of limitations

  113. “Cannibal’ism isn’t a personal condition. It is a GROUP case condition.”

Groups are made up of people. Individuals. Whatever personal conditions those people have, that is what is added to the group. People FORM groups. They are not formed by groups.

You can say, “Well this group of shrinks doped up this entire group of patients and implanted them. They became so different so therefore they were formed by a group.”

Well hey, those patients had already formed themselves into a group of victims. They had already joined that group, and they formed a group right there in that facility whatever it was.

That is why it is so aberrant for the CofS to go off chasing psychs. If they chased groups of victims to clear, the psychs wouldn’t have a target.

If someone wants to be a victim, and you take out the psychs, the person with a purpose to be a victim will just move to some other building to be victimized. Or wander out on the street to get hit by a truck. What do you do then, invest all of your money into hunting down and eradicating all drivers that can’t avoid hitting a body on short notice?

  114. Nice video, thanks. very much appreciated message.

Marty & Misha, A belated thank you for these comments. Granting of beingness or not could be equated to love or not. As love could be some quanitity or an unlimited love. From another forum I follow I found this video which in its own way communicates this same basic datum. This could be a basic truth for some, but I state it as a basic datum so no one thinks I am enforcing an interpretation. Enjoying the journey along the pathway to more enlightenment.

Fear, as well know, is often used in political and many kinds of other battles to steer public opinion on hot-button issues, from budgets to deficits, healthcare, immigration, war and a lot more (pretty much every issue up for funding or debate).

Interestingly, not everyone is equally predisposed to be influenced by a fear-based strategy, according to research by Rose McDermott, professor of political science published in the American Journal of Political Science. The study is called: “Fear as a Disposition and an Emotional State: A Genetic and Environmental Approach to Out-Group Political Preferences.”

By examining the different ways that fear manifests itself in individuals and its correlation to political attitudes, she found that people who have a greater genetic liability to experience higher levels of social fear tend to be more supportive of anti-immigration and pro-segregation policies.

Using a large sample of related individuals, including twins, siblings, and parents and children, she first assessed individuals for their propensity for fear, using interviews. She was able to identify influences such as environment and personal experience and found that some individuals also possessed a genetic propensity for a higher level of baseline fear. Such individuals are more prepared to experience fear in general at lower levels of threat or provocation.
According to her: “It’s not that conservative people are more fearful, it’s that fearful people are more conservative. People who are scared of novelty, uncertainty, people they don’t know, and things they don’t understand, are more supportive of policies that provide them with a sense of surety and security,” she said.

What she found out also is that genetics plays only part of the role in influencing political preferences. Education, they found, has an equally large influence on out-group attitudes, with more highly educated people displaying more supportive attitudes toward out-groups and education having a substantial mediating influence on the correlation between parental fear and child out-group attitudes.

“We have to recognize that a lot of what’s driving the political paralysis and disagreement has to do with emotional factors that are not necessarily amenible to or easily shifted by rational arguments,” McDermott said.

I guess the good news here is that, even if our genetics predispose us to experiencing fear, there is plenty we can do by educating ourselves to overcome this predisposition, and to put fear in the box where it belongs…

  121. + 1 000 000 Marty. That is the correct indication, all round. Thank you.

“Fear is the mind killer”. – Frank Herbert.

I would only add: the manufacturing of an “Enemy” causes the condition of Fear, which overrides reason, objectivity, rationality, sanity and compassion. Reason, objectivity, rationality, sanity and compassion do not constitute agreement with wrong actions. Rather, they provide the means to find solutions, whereas Fear-based responses perpetuate and compound the problem.

  125. Fear is quite easy to understand for those with exterior perception. Wander over to the sleeping place of DM early in the morning and observe the sharp constriction of the nether regions as he awakens and wonders “will they find out about me today?”

  126. Crowley: “Magick is the Science of understanding oneself and one’s conditions. It is the Art of applying that understanding in action.”

Hubbard: “MAGIC is a very precise study. Most people think of magic in terms of stage magicians or something of the sort. It’s not. Magic is not. It is a method of producing effects by using for cause the supernatural. 5203C10.

Hubbard: “If you want to get real tragic, forget it was just magic.”

  128. Marty I was wrong on Eugenics being a Nazi-thing It was American born it seems:

Eugenics, the social movement claiming to improve the genetic features of human populations through selective breeding and sterilization,[1] based on the idea that it is possible to distinguish between superior and inferior elements of society,[2] played a significant role in the history and culture of the United States prior to its involvement in World War II.[3]

Eugenics was practised in the United States many years before eugenics programs in Nazi Germany[4] and actually, U.S. programs provided much of the inspiration for the latter.[5][6][7] Stefan Kühl has documented the consensus between Nazi race policies and those of eugenicists in other countries, including the United States, and points out that eugenicists understood Nazi policies and measures as the realization of their goals and demands.[5]

A hallmark of the Progressive Era of the late 19th and early 20th century, now generally associated with racist and nativist elements (as the movement was to some extent a reaction to a change in emigration from Europe) rather than scientific genetics, eugenics was considered a method of preserving and improving the dominant groups in the population.

I am sorry for my oversight.

If you understand others you are smart.
If you understand yourself you are illuminated.
If you overcome others you are powerful.
If you overcome yourself you have strength.
If you know how to be satisfied you are rich.
If you can act with vigor, you have a will.

  132. Oh, now I couldn’t agree with you or anyone else more on that one. Looking at it this way, even though the book said Dianetics, even though n the back of the book was listed a church where Dianetics was taught, at the that church, I remember there was a sign hanging in the front of the front door that said “100% Standard Tech Is Delivered Here”. But, that is the point, it really wasn’t and it was on me to find that out. I did though! 🙂 And, to this day, I can still attest to anyone anywhere on any kind of meter, I never had overts on the C of S, just MU’s because it was on me to found out where I really was. That is real true responsibility. A responsibility, (I am laughing as I write this) the church would never dare take with anyone! 🙂

  133. Paul Durant

Looking at CA today and what is understood to be the progressive Californian mindset, one would never associates CA and Eugenics. The shameful story is that 20,000 Californians were forcibly sterilized by the state from 1910 to 1963. Yes, 1963, that’s very recent…

The goal was to rid society of people thought to be undesirable: people labeled “feeble-minded” or “defectives.”

California’s movement was so effective that in the 1930s, members of the Nazi party asked California eugenicists for advice on how to run their own sterilization program. Germany used California’s program as its chief example that this was a working, successful policy. They modeled their law on California’s law.

32 states had eugenics programs, but California was in a league of its own. CA sterilized more than twice as many people as the next state, Virginia, which sterilized 8,300.

CA law said that wards of the state had to be sterilized in order to be discharged from institutions. Men and women, boys and girls, were sent to state institutions for all sorts of reasons. Some had serious developmental disabilities. Some ended up there just because their parents were alcoholics and couldn’t care for them.

What’s mind blowing is that, in the mid-20th century, the American intellectual elite such as doctors, geneticists and Supreme Court justices supported forced sterilizations. At the same time, many in Congress were pleading that abolishing slavery would be bad for business because corporations would not be able to pay people and remain competitive…Unreal…

In California, the eugenics movement was led by figures such as William Starr Jordan, president of Stanford University, and Harry Chandler, publisher of the Los Angeles Times.

In other states, the sterilization program would stop and start due to legal challenges, but California’s ran strong for more than half a century.

So glad all this is over…If I can do my little part to help this planet be a more humane place to live… a place where people have respect and deference for each other.. a place where life is held sacred…where no one is seen as inferior for any reason… Such a simple dream and sometimes still so far away…The only way to usher change, is one person at a time, and the good news is that I, like every one, can do my part…

  134. Will not repeat what I have been declared, for daring to mention it or point it out. It is very disturbing for some people to think with. Very disturbing.

Which made me realize , this subject has an out listing connected to it, and wrong items connected to it, which can be a basis for confusion, the “Identity Crisis” of the Church, and identity crisis of it’s people. Also the crisis the world had in identifying with it! These are just some of the items on the list to the question, “What is Scientology?”

    A Church
    A Religion
    A Self Help Group
    A Form of Psychotherapy
    An Organized Religion
    A Cult
    A Science of the Mind
    A Belief System
    A Philosophy
    An Organized Body of Knowledge

This activity has been around for more than half a century and surrounded by so much controversy it’s own members have arguments about what it is , what it means, what it’s identity is, and what they are doing when they actively engage in it’s life, even wondering where they were and what they did and if it was really real, long after they depart.

You have to cull through Hubbard’s statements and writings to get the answers.

He states in 1954: “Scientology has opened the gates to a better World. It is not a psycho-therapy nor a religion.”

So that takes four items off the list. So when the subject IS PROMOTED as THE CHURCH offering a RELIGION , people start up with a wrong item and wrong indication just by walking into the reception area.

They EXPECT a Church and a religion, at least someone holy and caring, or pretending to be. And when they discover it is several galaxies away from anything Church like or religious they flee and park ON ESMB and scream in terror and protest. Trying from whatever decency they possess, to warn others.

It passes neither as a philosophy or science to an educated eye. Not when you mix together the ingredients because that is like trying to mix oil with water. Those people know it, although they may pass through the halls of the Church with license, they teeter on the brink of doubt down to treason because of what does not add up, and cook in lower conditions while trying improve them.

That whacks a lot of items of the list as well.

What can they all finally agree on? Well, It COULD be a cult! It COULD be. And that is exactly what it has been made in to.

Because “Magic” was with held as an item UNLESS YOU READ and LISTEN and LOOK.

And, look at the slander and attacks against it for ANY associations with magicality! I mean, you can’t really blame Hubbard for wanting to SURVIVE.

He cloaked it. It survived, somewhat, a lot longer than if he hadn’t.

But he did put the right item on the list in the beginning when he said, “Our source, actually, is magic. ”

    And pushed SOURCE.

The greatest teachers tell you where to look, but not what to see.

What YOU SEE is very much entwined with LOOKing.

If you get that right item down it can blow a lot of charge.

And he does say, “If you want to get real tragic, forget it was just magic.”

Now, I know this can be a real deal breaker for a lot of people.

It makes the I.A.S. patrons look like utter fools. Not to mention a few others.

But, it is supposed to be funny. “Free of me and Free of Scientology”. is when you can have a good laugh about it all.

  135. When I hear people say things like, “He is destroying my religion” “He is destroying my Church” “They are trying to destroy our Church” “They are attacking my religion” “I have a right to practice my religion”
    blah. Blah. Blah.

Take a chill pill! Wean yourself off the symbols, certs, applause, soldiers, fancy real estate, Scientologist Identity, perks from the other curiosity seekers, and take it straight from the Holy Hubbard you came to worship!

“Scientology has opened the gates to a better World. It is not a psycho-therapy nor a religion.”

    “Our source, actually, is magic.”

Going back in history with any swift glance a person will discover that at one time MAGIC and RELIGION were ONE and the SAME!

Living a Lie, Pretense, NOT LOOKING and NOT KNOWING and still NOT KNOWING how to KNOW is TOTALLY OFF SOURCE!

If you think you have been touring a religion you are OFF SOURCE.

If you think you were part of a Church you are OFF SOURCE.

But don’t believe what you WANT TO BELIEVE, contribute to perpetuate a LIE, and then become the effect of a false reality you created.

I mean, what is so funny about that? That is only mildly interesting to observe it being done, and only on the first one or two thetans that work that trick.

  136. Magical thinking in various forms is a cultural universal and an important aspect of religion. In many cases it becomes difficult or impossible to draw any meaningful line between beliefs and practices that are magical versus those that are religious, but in general the term religion is reserved for an organized cult with a priesthood and dedicated sites of worship or sacrifice, while magic is prevalent in all societies, regardless of whether they have organized religion or more general systems of animism or shamanism. Religion and magic became conceptually separated with the development of western monotheism, where the distinction arose between supernatural events sanctioned by mainstream religious doctrine (“miracles”) and mere magic rooted in folk belief or occult speculation.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_and_religion

  137. There are no “Holy Men” over at the “Church of Scientology”. There are no NUNs, priests, popes. bishops, minsters, services, charity, compassion, hope, help, breathing life into the dead, or elevating spirits to the heavens or any of that other quackery.

It’s a few wizards, some good at using forces and conditions to crack black magic spells, while a corporate executive prays off the misinformed and confused as his begging units pick their pockets.

The magic is no longer “OVER THERE”.

It is over here, and it is EVERYWHERE. It is INSIDE of YOU and all about you.

Hubbard: “MAGIC is a very precise study. It is a method of producing effects by using for cause the supernatural.”

The only thing supernatural in the Church of Scientology is David’s sales skills. I do give him credit for that.

He admitted in his St Pete interview that according to him, Power is getting people to believe you.

POWER is in TRUTH. In power processing, a person is introduced to SOURCES.

He is set up for the OT levels, which were kept confidential as these all explore the supernatural.

I do not believe Hubbard intended for anyone to advance onto the OT levels, that was not fully aware of what dynamic they were exploring.

The OT levels are high magic.

  138. I agree, Lawrence. All those lies told about others are actually “third partying” as described by LRH. And as people ‘out’ the lies which have been told, the “charge” caused by those who have been third partying others just naturally migrates back to from whence it originated. There is no escaping this fate. It is natural law. Even if Miscavige sends out an issue exempting himself and the COS from LRH’s description of this law, it won’t change a thing about that fact. It is natural law. There is no escape except recognition, contrition, confession, atonement, etc.

And regarding Karen’s UTube exploits: Yeah, I agree. Tori is an absolute hoot, and Karen is destined for stardom! 🙂

  139. Oracle, you are an incredible poet! The rhythmic cadence of your comments always snags my attention and holds me to the end.

You might consider going through your many comments and doing a compilation for a book. Personally, I think such a book would be a fascinating read.

  140. Oracle: “I think the biggest fear people have, is fear of themselves. What the potential is. What they will or might do under certain conditions. Growing on some level is overcoming the fears of yourself.”

Marianne Willamson: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

“Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn. The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and prejudices and the acceptance of love back in our hearts. Love is the essential reality and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.”

  141. Oracle: “Living a Lie, Pretense, NOT LOOKING and NOT KNOWING and still NOT KNOWING how to KNOW is TOTALLY OFF SOURCE!”

    I completely agree Oracle.

Excerpt from Course in Miracles lesson 139: “Here is the end of choice. For here we come to a decision to accept ourselves as God created us. And what is choice except uncertainty of what we are? There is no doubt that is not rooted here. There is no question but reflects this one. There is no conflict that does not entail the single, simple question, “What am I?”

“Yet who could ask this question except one who has refused to recognize himself? Only refusal to accept yourself could make the question seem to be sincere. The only thing that can be surely known by any living thing is what it is. From this one point of certainty, it looks on other things as certain as itself.

“Uncertainty about what you must be is self-deception on a scale so vast, its magnitude can hardly be conceived. To be alive and not to know yourself is to believe that you are really dead. For what is life except to be yourself, and what but you can be alive instead? Who is the doubter? What is it he doubts? Whom does he question? Who can answer him?

“He merely states that he is not himself, and therefore, being something else, becomes a questioner of what that something is. Yet he could never be alive at all unless he knew the answer. If he asks as if he does not know, it merely shows he does not want to be the thing he is. He has accepted it because he lives; has judged against it and denied its worth, and has decided that he does not know the only certainty by which he lives.

“Thus he becomes uncertain of his life, for what it is has been denied by him. It is for this denial that you need Atonement [correction]. Your denial made no change in what you are. But you have split your mind into what knows and does not know the truth. You are yourself. There is no doubt of this. And yet you doubt it. But you do not ask what part of you can really doubt yourself. It cannot really be a part of you that asks this question. For it asks of one who knows the answer. Were it part of you, then certainty would be impossible.”

  142. The noted Zen master/monk, who helped popularize Zen buddhism in the US in late 1950’s once said:

“Hell is not punishment, it is training.”

When I’m having a bad day or reflecting on my life or trying to sort through my scientology experiences (good and bad — good might be considered heaven (also training)) — it’s a valuable quote for me.

At the end of the day … it’s all training.

Training in watching ones mind, choosing as positive a choice and moving on up.

  143. Sorry: Forgot to name the Zen monk —

Suzuki Roshi — author of Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind

  144. Espiritu, thanks. Like Karma. 🙂

  145. I believe you about the overts. I think that whole “if you don’t like us you have overts on us” was over the top. Imagine if every store front or delivery outlet had that policy?

You take a toaster back to Macys because it blew up in your kitchen after three days of use and one of your kids was standing near the toaster and lost an eye. The clerk at Macys says, “Your kid has overts on us and is on a motivator flow. You too. We are routing you in the back for a sec check.” (at your expense for your own good).

Or, the salesperson in a used car lot is trying to sell you a car that keeps stalling out as you are doing the test drive. You return to the lot and say, “I just don’t think that car is for me, I don’t trust it.” The salesperson accuses you of being critical and they set up a meter right there to check you out for overts and with holds before you are permitted to leave the lot.

This is a means to curb aggression. But it causes a person to experience a subtle aggression towards them self whenever they have a protest read. Or aggression towards others for mentioning outpoints. Finally you have spouses up at the Int base fair gaming their partner because the partner mentions an outpoint. I mean, that is wrong on so many levels. That is obligatory treason.

Mary Sue sure as hell wasn’t whipped into telling all she knew in a courtroom in D.C. while she was on trial.

The fact that she was thrown under the bus after doing time in Federal Prison is the shame of Scientology. People can take petty mistakes from auditors and staff. Even major ones. But for someone that carried the torch for so long, spread themselves out so thin for their mate, took a hot like that in the performance of duty, to be shunned as a virus afterwards, that took the spirit right out of any 3D cause or 4D cause for me. But you know, in an auditing session this surfacing , it would have gone like this, well, “Do you have similar overts of your own?”

So what if I did or do? I mean really, so what? Does that make it O.K.? Why must this turn on ME now as the “guilty party”?

And if I DID have similar overts of my own, I would not have noticed it as a GLARING OUTPOINT!

What if the Fort Harrison called the police because Mike Rinder and Marty were knocking on the front door (which happened) and the 911 operator signed at the complaint and said to the person calling, “Do you have a similar overt of your own?”

Or, “911, How can I help you”?

“I need help! Someone is trying to break down my door! It is a man mad with a Texas chainsaw in his hand”!

“911 here, Do you have a similar overt of your own? Have your TR’s gone out? Do you have a with hold?”

  146. That sounds like a set up for a loss.

How the hell can you die without a loss?

You have to give up something when you kick off. At least, your body. If you have nothing else.

  147. Not to mention a few comm lines………. A room to view from (your head).

  148. “Exterior with full perception” was another vague concept.

Look at the perceptible. Figure out how much of that is happening because you are IN A BODY. Colors (eye lens) Sound (ear drums) Temperature, and so on.

Yes, there are people that hoped to go “fully exterior” and have all of those perceptics AMPLIFIED!

    Full perception of what?

That was a question seldom asked. Going fully exterior myself, there was no sound. There was no color. Um…there was a lot to NOT perceive.

  149. I did have full perception of all that I could no longer perceive. Which made quite a list!

  150. The Oracle, was there anything you did perceive?

And can you comment on this Tech Dictionary definition:

THETA PERCEPTION, that which one perceives by radiating towards an object and from the reflection perceiving various characteristics of the object such as size, odor, tactile, sound, color, etc. Certainty of perception is increased by drilling in certainties as above. Theta perception is dependent upon willingness to handle and to create space, energy and objects in view of the fact that the mest universe can be established easily to be an illusion. One must have an ability to perceive illusions before one can clearly perceive the mest universe. The thetan who cannot perceive the mest universe easily will also be found to be incapable of handling and orientating other kinds of illusions with certainty. Theta perception is also a direct index to responsibility, for responsibility is the willingness to handle force. (Scn 8-8008 Gloss)

  151. Paul Durand

Talking about fear….I was just looking at the book: “ Love is Letting Go of Fear” by Gerald G. Jampolsky. I had forgotten how good this book is…

There are some really great insights in it. This one resonates very much with me and my departure from the spiritual movement I was associated with: “When we think we have been hurt by someone in the past, we build up defenses to protect ourselves from being hurt in the future. So the fearful past causes a fearful future and the past and future become one. We cannot love when we feel fear…. When we release the fearful past and forgive everyone, we will experience total love and oneness with all.” I believe I’m just starting to turn this corner, it has taken years to get here.

I also really like this one: challenging, but right in front of me right now: “Peace of mind comes from not wanting to change others. You can be right, or you can be happy.” How true…

And finally: “The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently, we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds.”

This guy is good…..I need to read this book again from cover to cover…This book came out decades ago, and needs to be resurrected! What a timelessly relevant book!

  152. “Funny” you should mention that. 🙂 The Church of Scientology of New York ALREADY had HUGE O/W’s years before I even met them. I remember when I was working for the Guardian Office in NY. It was as though every other girl in the GO was named Paulette. Every other word spoken by the women was “Paulette”. It never made sense to me at the time why the word Paulette was so popular. Honest. Two feet in front of me, COMPLETE with Paulette Cooper’s body double in a spring Sach’s 5th Avenue dress. When I finally found out WHO Paulette Cooper really was about 11 years ago, I almost heard a crash the my MU from those times in the GO and truth behind the name Paulette as it relates to the GO at the MU just vanished right in front of my eyes. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing about this church and I said to my self “No wonder I felt so suspicious of those people the whole time”. I remember Pat Ward policing the church like a Gestapo. I thought “This is really out of place. Why does he need to dress that way, and walk around like that with people getting auditing in the auditing rooms?” 🙂 I have never been as happy as I have been these days recalling the most unpleasant things that happened. And look how concealed the truth was from me. The woman’t body double standing right in front of me. I communicated with Paulette Cooper about this once. I not only learned something, but I made case gain from THEIR O/W’s for a change. 🙂

  153. This was hysterical! To see a P.C. running around the base, just cranked out of the L’s H.G.C., complaining madly and loudly that he was not exterior with full perceptions, and in fact, seemed to be perceiving much less.

  154. Paul, thanks for the recommendation. Sounds great and so consistent with the above video with Bruce Lipton.

  155. I figured out that I went into the body because I wanted to perceive. I wanted to perceive colors, music, sound, taste, feeling.

What I perceived outside of the body was quiet, shadows, my own “way” as a being of moving. Which felt like spilling. Moving around was a feeling of spilling. I mean, that is the only way I describe it. A slow spill. Well, I was taking it slow. Not to say I couldn’t speed things up.
But I felt like a syrup pouring across a pancake.

Things did not appear 3D anymore. It all looked flat and distinguished by shadows. And, that universe was occupied, I mean it was populated by more same like me, but with very distinct space between all of us. The others had distinct identities. The others felt very neither friendly or unfriendly , but and curious. Nothing scary at all. Seeming lost or uncertain mostly. There was no feeling of obligation there. You know, to say hello or something like that. I felt nothing was expected of me. If there was any “force” out there, I didn’t feel it. I didn’t feel myself “radiating”. But hey, that is just me. I didn’t notice anyone else “radiating” either. There was nothing to really do but spill around a little bit. I found I got very bored very fast and scurried back to “live a little”.

So yes, I became keenly aware of the illusion. But I have a far greater appreciation of life and living. My reason for living is to have some fun. I owned it.

I think people check out when the pain/pleasure ratio is out of balance. Too much pain, not enough pleasure. That is getting punished for living, not rewarded. People should be excused from that. Really.

But I certainly wouldn’t be getting auditing to GO OUT and STAY OUT of the body, if my purpose was to PERCEIVE. So, “Exterior with full perception” is well, what it is.

I also wouldn’t presume that everyone breaking body, would have the same experience. Or even have the same experience. That would be assuming that there are no parallel universes out there.

  156. Paul, thanks so much for bringing Gerald G. Jampolsky and his book, Love is Letting Go of Fear, to the table. I had never heard of him or his book until I read your comment. Reading the excerpts you chose to include in your post, I see that this man is awakened. Perhaps even enlightened (I have to read the book). Thanks again. I really appreciate it. ~Monte

  157. Perhaps he might have said, “Exterior with full perception of the illusion”, and that might have translated a better understanding to people.

  158. I do think, one is either in, or out, of life. You cannot be in and out at the same time. That could be real GPM.

  159. Maybe, to “go out”, at cause, one has to admit or understand or own, their want and desire, to go in. I wouldn’t audit someone with the promise to “get them out”. Unless the auditing was to focus on all of the pleasure people were seeking wanting and hoping for, when they started up a “life”. This falls under purposes. And that is exactly what you address on the L’s. But you have to spell it out for people who go through all kinds of auditing and have no idea why they are taking up certain paths. Someone sitting there with a deliberate purpose to “Go out and stay out” isn’t owning the life they created. They do not want to be in it. They create a life, then pay an auditor to get them out of it.
You can direct a person’s attention back to their “reasons” and “purposes” for having a life they would like to live in. That should handle it. But it just doesn’t always go that way.

  160. I guess a common denominator between Scientologists “on the road”, could be, that they really do not want to be in the life that they created.
They don’t want to NOT have a life, just a different one. To have different life, or be a different identity. After all, the big Question is, “What is ruining your life”? And the answer is always, “Scientology can handle that”. They are always promised a new life, or a different life, or a better version of them self.”

People that are already content just aren’t going to walk down that hall.

I mean, you can dig and pester anyone to admit to a perceived “flaw” in their life, then bug them to “fix it”.

When you hear people complain about the life they have, or don’t have, “because of Scientology”, they have long forgotten the life they had, or didn’t have, before Scientology, that they wanted Scientology to fix. Happy campers don’t sign up. Your first free “service” is an OCA test to agree with you, that your life is a substandard creation.

Either way, there were in a life they were not happy about before they got involved. They were in a life they were not happy about while they were involved. And they are in a life they are not happy about, since they left. And it is all something or someone else’s fault.

I mean, that is one way to live your life. As if it has nothing to with you.

  161. Aquamarine

Oracle, I am so tracking with you on this. What if an Esto, observing outpoints for a Scientology activity, was responded to with the “You must have overts” standard resonse?

Well the answer is, that the Esto probably does have overts somewhere, somehow on this type of activity or something that could be similar, reactive mind-wise. But then, SO WHAT?

Outpoints are OUTPOINTS. The Esto is NOT in session! Anyone can observed outpoints and pluspoints! And possibly ALSO have overts and witholds in that area, but THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE.

There is admin tech and there is auditing tech, there is observation of outpoints and pluspoints and there is restimulating the PreClear causitively to free him gradiently from his reactive mind.

The huge outpoint you’re illustrating is MIXING the 2 types of tech! Admin tech has its purposes and correct usages, and so does auditing tech. They are NOT to mixed and mis-used!

I mean, in a Scientology org, there is a Qual division which mostly handles CORRECTION, for God’s sake!! How can any correction of a product or subproduct occur without observation of the outpoints and pluspoints?
How would it be known if an auditor in training needed a cram or whatever?

Big mistake to not make the distinction between these two types of tech, their purposes and usages, and to not understand when each is needed.

  162. Your first free “service” is an OCA test to agree with you, that your life is a substandard creation. As in, “Your graph should be up here, up here, way up here see this line? And,and it is way down here, see, down here, look down where my finger is when I’m talking to you.”

Can you believe, there is someone out here working as an auditor, that is propping up clears and OT’s and running OCA’s on them?

  163. It is almost a laughing matter. 🙂 What if you were an Ethics Officer and discovered that one of your public particles was out-ethics and after 37 KR’s being written on this public then you were called in to handle it and then written up for handling the matter? 🙂 The cynical viewpoint to take would be “Well, that’s Scientology!”. The right viewpoint to take would be “It looks like some tech wound up in the hands of some wrong people and is being deliberately mis-applied to create out ethics which of course will never get handled because a declare is in order for anyone who spots this outness”! 🙂 For goodness sakes, even a municipal court judge can have a better understanding of LRH tech without any auditing and training under the belt, than “modert GAT church staff”. 🙂

  164. Let’s play Spot That Group!

  165. Thanks, T.O. I have heard others express similar experiences to yours, using words like “flow”. I really enjoyed your other comments too.

Here’s a short video that I think relates, although it’s not about exteriorization due to death. It’s about meditating and going “out-of-body”, healing, doing remote viewing, etc. (i.e. exteriorizing). In the video Tom Campbell explains that individuals usually start out by becoming aware “in their consciousness”, which at first means they become unaware of the physical. But he says that with practice that doesn’t have to be the case – they can be aware of both. It’s all a matter of having an “intent” to gather “certain” information. This video is just part of a seminar where he answers a particular question, but if you watch any of the videos where he presents his whole theory, the “intent” can be to have perception of a particular location in the physical universe, or of some other physical or non-physical universe, or to “go back” to the past – or any of the other “data streams” that he says are available. He bases his claims on his own and others’ personal experiences.

Btw, you mentioned that there were others “out there” who mostly seemed lost or uncertain. I had an experience where someone close to me died suddenly of a heart attack and I asked an OT friend to get in comm with him. She said that he right away wanted to know what happened. She had to explain to him that his body had died but assured him that “he” was fine, and then she answered some of his questions. She let him know that there was no rush, he could take his time before choosing another body – told him to look around and see where he wanted to be born and pick the body he wanted. Whereas he had been quite misemotional at first, by the end she felt a great sense of relief in him. Seems to me everyone should have this “hatting” – early on in life.

  166. Monte, Thank you for the ack and the reference. I can’t really take the applause as due to myself, as we know by now, it takes great magic to pull knowledge from the speaker. That is why auditing is so very, very, magical! It never gets said, until the right person asks the right question. I have had conversations on this forum I never had before, even though I have always been the same person. Knowing all of the same things. All I can say is, Marty knows how to invite people to speak. And if I hadn’t been summoned up, I would just be living and recording.

  167. As in, My posts are always a response to the things he posts. Otherwise, these conversations would not be happening. When I saw the word “FEAR”, I just went on an itsa. I have always known what people are afraid of. I just never was prodded for my view. Nobody ever asked me before.

  168. I’m all up for strange magic. A lot of people have Marty all wrong. They are stuck in his “past”. It is fucked up when you are stuck in your own past, when you get stuck in other people’s past it is even MORE fucked up. But hey, some people are willing to go anyplace if it is not home.

In a broken stone age dawn.
    You fly so high.

    Oh, it’s a strange magic.
    Got a strange magic,

    Oh, it’s a strange magic.
    Got a strange magic,

  169. Wow! He is so out of the A=A. Such a good call, Thanks for sharing the experience. I have had them, with former Scientologists! I had a very close friend that was an OTV. He died, O.K., within a very short time he arrived. He was complaining of sleep deprivation and cold. I let him share my body and sleep. By that I mean I layed down and slept for two days under a comforter. I had never slept that long in my life. He was an addict for heat and sleep and food.
I mean, he couldn’t even function with out “sleep”. As a thetan. I had a former Sea Org Member “techie” staying at my place. He had been tossed under the bus and I scooped him up. He was alright. I asked him to help me understand this. He showed me a reference from a book where Hubbard talks about a thetan’s temperature going down outside of the body. To like, under zero! So it made sense. Still, exterior myself, it was not cold. So I am driven to believe there are parallel universes.

  170. That is so funny. It’s like – Question: “May I use the money on my account for this book instead of this tape?” Answer: “Do you have an overt on books in the area?”. Please! 🙂 Don’t let the planet go through with it or we’ll all be “Clear!” 🙂

  171. IS FEAR THE ILLUSION IN THE OVERALL ILLUSION WE OURSELVES CONJURE UP OR IS IT ANOTHER AGREEMENT WE DELUDE OURSELVES WITH TO KEEP PLAYING WITH THE ONION? Pardon the caps. Bill Dupree

  172. Yes, yes, yes! I have been saying this for years. According to the church behavior, they should be sec checked to give up all their o/w’s so they can get out of victim, since according to them, ‘everybody’ has been against the church from day one they must really been pulling it in. But this view is never applied to the church; it has always claimed they are victimized by actual sp’s (which implicates the rest of humanity except for TC and Kirstie and other celebs). They are in attack mode with no compassion…ever! Ron says that you can be in an accident, but it doesn’t mean you caused it, yet this has been altered. The public is ‘to blame’ for bad auditing, training, loosing a home to a natural disaster, or any bad thing that happens. The church, however, is so clean that bad people keep messing with it…what??? The overt motivator sequence speaks loudly in their accusations.

  173. There is not “nothing” outside of your body. There is an “atmosphere” about the planet that is it’s own mass and weight. I moved into and through that. I was still “in” something. Which gave me the feeling of my own motion. I think it would be different being outside of the body, to then move beyond that. But “space” has weight and mass when you are near a planet. And things can just hang in that.

  174. Very interesting. Is it possible that this “atmosphere” around planets exists away from them as well? Actually, any of your direct perceptions of the universe while exterior would be of great interest to the students of theoretical physics and cosmology who post here. And me too! 🙂

  175. Sorry, I didn’t get something. You said, ” Is it possible that this “atmosphere” around planets exists away from them as well? ”

Exists away from who (is “them”)?

What I mean to say is, “Fully exterior” can be misleading. So can an “out of the body experience” in this atmosphere. You can be exterior from the body, but you are still in something. So you are not “fully exterior” even if you are out of the body and in this planet’s atmosphere.

The felling of “spilling” I had, was the feeling of moving through the atmosphere here.

Away from this atmosphere, being outside of a body is an entirely different feeling.

You can move out of the body but still be “in” something, like an atmosphere.

The atmosphere here has some similarities to other atmospheres but this is it’s own unique planet. No two planets are the same and either are any two atmospheres.

This is why electronics work here. They can travel through the atmosphere because it is a mass.

You can leave the body you are in but when you do, you just enter another body of mass.

Getting exterior from that body of mass may take it’s own auditing process’. IF one seems to be stuck in it. I would think that would carry the same auditing laws for leaving any body of mass.

I guess some thetans could be stuck in it, I seemed to be the only one moving in it, the others were still. But that may have been a calm. A “just being there” that was going on. Maybe some people like just hanging around. Maybe some people are figuring it out.

    I’ll do some more exploring!

  176. Thanks, T.O. And in your further exploring, see if you can find out anything about the Higgs field. Theories are interesting but can’t compare to direct experience. 🙂

By “them” I meant planets, i.e. away from the atmospheres of planets. In other words – in outer space. And you actually answered the question. Your comments on “exterior” reminded me of the two-part “Gradient Scale of Exteriorization” from Creation of Human Ability (and also in the latest edition of Scn 0-8).

    Start of quote:
    —————————
There is a gradient scale of exteriorization which could be described as follows:

    First, the thetan without contact with a universe;
Then, a thetan in full contact with a universe:
    Then, a thetan in contact with part of a universe, who considers the remainder of the universe barred to him;
    Then, a thetan in a universe without any contact with any part of the universe;
Then, a thetan unknowingly in contact with a large part of a universe.

The first condition would be a true Static, The last condition is called, colloquially, in Scientology, “buttered all over the universe”.

As it is with a universe, such as the physical universe, so it is with physical bodies. The thetan, who has already gone through the cycle on the universe itself, may be in contact with a physical body in the same order:

    At first he would be without association with a physical body;
    Then, with occasional contact with bodies;
    Then, with a fixed contact on one body but exteriorized;
    Then, interiorized into a body but easy to exteriorize;
    Then, in contact with and interiorized into a body, but withdrawn from the various parts of the body;
    Then, obsessively “buttered all through the body”;
Then, obsessively and unknowingly drawn down to some small portion of the body, and so forth.

This is the gradient scale which includes inversion and then inversion of the inversion. The auditor will discover preclears are very variable in the matter of exteriorization. Some preclears, even when they have a dark field, exteriorize rather easily. Others, after a great deal of work, are still found to be difficult to exteriorize. The matter of exteriorization is the matter of which level of inversion the preclear is in.

One of the more difficult levels to work is so inverted that he thinks that a thetan is running him. In other words, here is a thetan functioning in a body and actually running it through various covert communication lines, who yet believes he is a body to such an extent that he considers himself, or any life around him to be some other being.
    ————————

  177. Very Interesting. I had not seen the quote, but something in it sticks for me. So, it doesn’t indicate as true for me. And I think it is something basic, like goals. I have only met a few people who had the goal of being exterior or seemed to be obsessed or have a lot of attention on exteriorization.

It is placed as a goal right on HQS on the upper indocs. That and the results could be a thread in itself. “Exteriorize” is a verb.
“Exteriorization” “easily or not”, seems to be a new skill or challenge put forth into the Scientology mix.

I went exterior long before I sat in the Church of Scientology on HQS. I think a lot of people that took drugs did, and already knew they had been in and out of the body more times than they had, the back door of the home they grew up in.

It got made a big issue and some kind of huge standard in the Church.

I don’t think people who are happy care. People want to be happy, and they want to be doing what they are doing when they are doing it. I don’t think a lot of people have the goal to be “elsewhere” unless they are not happy where they are. “Elsewhere” is also on the chart of human characteristics. People would not be in a body if they did not want to go into one to begin with. I don’t think it is a crime or a degraded condition to be in a body. I am still seeing it on the plus side of having a game and keeping myself busy. I wouldn’t want to be three feet in back on my head. I like my head. I like being in the head. And I like being in the body.

This sub culture of being in a body and pretending you really don’t want to be in it is kind of weird. Making nothing of the body is kind of weird, these things are high maintenance, it takes a long time to grow one up, keep it well keep it running and keep it as an asset. Why the hell would I pretend it doesn’t amount to anything and I really don’t want to be anywhere around it? Not that I am into “worshipping” bodies. But I think resentment towards the body is not too healthy either. Either is pretending it is some kind pf parasite that has a hold on you.

Hubbard spoke a lot of exteriorization, “running the body”, getting out of the body, whatever. These were all of his interests, concerns and viewpoints. Yet he was terrorized at the thought of sharing his bodies with others. He wouldn’t permit a doctor to tend to him. He wrote of concerns about his body in early memoirs. He hid his body a lot later on so people could not see it or find it. He just had issues that were his own.

When I read the quote above of Hubbard’s, it sounds to me like he is tripping. Especially the inversion into the inversion ……… From my viewpoint, you are in or out of the body. That’s all. If you are dying to get out, even though you are in, you are in a G.P.M.. You have to handle that. To be in and to be out at the same time are colliding purposes. Imagine if you were trying to get in and out of your house at the same time?

If people “have trouble exteriorizing” maybe it’s because it’s not their purpose. Geeze Christ isn’t it more cheerful to focus on what is right?

“You are in a body” defined as a handicap, is an indication. What is right about someone in a body? Well, they can sign up for a course! Hold the cans! Learn! Laugh! Love! Hear the command! Have the conversation!

There is an undercurrent of shame about bodies and being in one that flows through Scientology that I always thought was pretty creepy.

It’s on the tonescale. “Being a body”. It is a “crime” we all share that is plotted very low on that tone scale. He even cloaked his body of work in Scientology.

Hubbard was apparently repelled by it. But he collected thousands of them to his bidding. He liked his shirts rinsed 13 times. He had his own butler and his own chef. He had other possessions he loved. His guns, his homes, his bank accounts, his staff (if they were obedient), his cars.

But anyone should know by the laws of affinity, if you are occupying the same space with someone else, there is a high degree of affinity.

Perhaps someone not into “exteriorization” just didn’t want to put space between them and their body. A body, is a creation. To make less of someone’s body is to make less of something they have created. And that is something of THEM.

I just think Hubbard should have audited himself or had someone else do it , with the attention and attitudes and emotions he had on the subject.

  178. Frankly, the quote above sounds like case to me.

  179. Causes me to consider the resources the Church has to “protect bodies”. The G.O.. That was to protect Hubbard and his body of work.
All of the security staff, M.A.A.’s, Justice officers, I.A.S., CCHR, these are groups and entities with the purpose of protecting bodies. Hubbard spent a lot of time and resources hiding his body too. If it’s anyplace that worships bodies (look at what happens when one of them tries to leave) it is the Scientology culture. There are just some big issues there that have been created.

  180. T.O. got your viewpoint. Mine is that Hubbard’s own case may or may not have been a factor in his development of this Gradient Scale of Exteriorization, but it was apparently based on his research. And I didn’t get that he meant it had anything to do with setting goals but was simply a description of the cycles thetans go through in relation to universes as well as physical bodies (the second part of the scale).

I do agree with you, however, that “exteriorization” seems to have been made into a big issue by Scientologists and/or the CoS. But as for LRH, I think the subject may come down to what he had to say about “theta clear” and the purposes for attaining that state, which would in fact be a matter of goals – although these goals would actually involve the freedoms of choice that you wrote about.

    Quoted from the Tech Dictionary:
    ——————————-
THETA CLEAR, 1. it is a person who operates exterior to a body without need of a body. (SH Spec 59, 6109C27) 2 . that state wherein the preclear can remain with certainty outside his body when the body is hurt. (PAB 33) 3. a theta clear, then can be defined as a person who is at cause over his own reactive bank and can create and uncreate it at will. Less accurately he is a person who is willing to experience. Theta clear is stable. (Ab1,1 92M) 4 . theta clear would mean clear of the mest body or cleared of the necessity to have a mest body. (5206CM26A) 5 . there are two types of theta clear, the theta being which is cleared of its necessity or compulsion to have a body and a theta being which is cleared all the way on the track. (5206CM26B) 6 . the basic definition of theta clear is: no further necessity for beingnesses. (SH Spec 36, 6108C09) 7 . this is a relative not an absolute term. It means that the person, this thought unit, is clear of his body, his engrams, his facsimiles, but can handle and safely control a body. (COHA, p. 248) 8 . in its highest sense, means no further dependency on bodies. (SCP, p. 3) 9 . an individual who, as a being, is certain of his identity apart from that of the body, and who habitually operates the body from outside, or exteriorized. (PXL, p. 16)
    ——————————-

p.s. Did you do any more exploring? 🙂

  181. I attested to Theta Clear in 1976. And Cleared theta clear the same year.

There is I think, I should distinguish a difference between necessity, and desire. One is down in the enforce band, one is up at the top of the CDEI scale.

My theories are simple, if it is up at desire or curiosity about, it’s O.K..

If it is anything less than that, it is aberrated. Scientology doesn’t even work down in the enforce band.

Necessity and compulsions are usually enforced situations.

But 99% of the people who travel across the threshold of Scientology are not in the enforce band. They get driven down there by the culture.

People will not sign up for a service unless they “curious about” or feel some desire.

How does that same person get up for 8:30 muster on the R.P.F. a few years later after they have laid themselves on the line to help others before themself? That is taking the holy and making them unholy.

Scientology can drag people down or lift them up. That should be obvious from the feedback.

I have been doing some exploring, and I have come to the conclusion that maybe I shouldn’t say my views of Hubbard’s theories. I don’t know who he was talking to when he itsa’d. Maybe what he is saying is true for the people he was speaking to. But it seems to me, if you are going to put something in writing as fact, you would have KNOW the person you are telling this to. And you cannot possibly KNOW everyone who is going to read what you wrote. Maybe he went for a majority that I am not a part of. Maybe what sounds true for others is not true for me. Maybe there are people tripping with “in and out” and I just didn’t get it.

Maybe other people have issues with bodies I do not have. I only know all of the process’ worked for me, exactly as they were laid out on the grade chart. I have more or less been considered a “Cadillac P.C.”. So, I thought I was very ordinary.

I noticed how many times the word “body” and “free from” were used in the definitions above.

I only know two categories. What I do know and what I don’t know.

What I know about myself, does not mean I know about other people.

Maybe what Hubbard had to say about others was 100% true for them, and I just don’t know it yet.

I don’t have charge on bodies.
I don’t have charge on drugs.
I don’t have charge on radiation.
I don’t have charge on Hugs.

I don’t have charge on Xenu
    I loved him very well.
I don’t have charge on Heaven.
I’ve lived it up in Hell.

I don’t have charge on other people’s past.
    I don’t have charge on Hubbard’s enemies.
    I don’t have charge on Hubbard’s friends.
I don’t have charge on Pedigree.

I don’t have charge on Magick
I don’t have charge on religion.
I don’t have charge on “squirrels”.
    Or staff as pregnant women.

I don’t have charge on Psychs.
    X S.O.,Freeloaders , Blows , PTS
or People fighting for their rights.
    Long dark nights. Inflated price.

I don’t have charge on Hubbard
    I love him very well.
    My charge is the illusion
    where people choose to dwell.

    Am I obligated to inherit
    all of Hubbard’s charge?
Or am I free from to be myself
    as an honorable discharge?

  182. T.O. that was a wonderful poem! 🙂

On the earlier part of your post you wrote, “I have been doing some exploring, and I have come to the conclusion that maybe I shouldn’t say my views of Hubbard’s theories.”

I disagree! 🙂 And hopefully that was only a momentary sentiment for you too. The sharing of ideas is what leads TO greater truth. This has been the case throughout history – including on blogs like this one, as I think you would agree.

You also wrote: “I don’t know who he was talking to when he itsa’d. Maybe what he is saying is true for the people he was speaking to. But it seems to me, if you are going to put something in writing as fact, you would have KNOW the person you are telling this to. Maybe there are people tripping with “in and out” and I just didn’t get it.”

I would say there is definitely a difficulty in communicating basic truths through the means of words. Here’s a relevant quote from Scn 8-8008:

“Truth in Scientology is the study of the lowest common denominator of agreement, plus the establishment of the true ability of the thetan. The true ability of the thetan is a truth much higher than the truth of the MEST universe itself and, if it has ever before been known, the difficulties of communicating it have been such as to inhibit its promulgation.” (Scientology 8-8008)

Also, as you know, Hubbard (when at his best) basically said the same thing you did – in his essay “Personal Integrity” written in 1954, and even in 1981 when he wrote the following in “The Way to Happiness” booklet:

“What is true is what is true for you. No one has any right to force data on you and command you to believe it or else. If it is not true for you, it isn’t true. Think your own way through things, accept what is true for you, discard the rest. There is nothing unhappier than one who tries to live in a chaos of lies.”

You said it beautifully on your last stanza:

    “Am I obligated to inherit
    all of Hubbard’s charge?
Or am I free from to be myself
    as an honorable discharge?”

  183. Ha ha! We are having a nice chat back in this corner. 🙂 I guess the point I was leaning on, is that nobody, nobody, nobody, ever, ever, ever, gets an honorable discharge from Scientology. It is always always, dishonorable. The game is set up that you can only lose by “getting out” or “going exterior” to it. The game itself, “The route out”, is illusion. You are not supposed to “get out” or “go exterior” from Scientology. It is set up so you go in, and stay in. The system is a product of Hubbard’s . He set himself up to be trapped in it. He had the franchises going very well and he was getting a % and his royalties. He could have sailed off and done a lot of things. But he wove himself into the fabric in a way that he could not back out of it. And he set up so that nobody could with good conscience, go exterior from it. So I suspect that he himself had some issues about exteriorization. Look at the penalties and losses imposed upon anyone who even express a desire to go exterior from Scientology. The dangers and warnings, crimes implied should one even consider “departures from the ideal scene” “falling off the bridge” “departures from standard tech” “Absence without official “permission” ”
it goes on, and on, and on. Well, yes, he had some issues with people “getting out” or “going exterior”. “Getting out” or “leaving” is a crime in Scientology. In fact, it means you are evil or have overts if you want to leave or “go exterior” from it. I think the bodies were more important to him than he let on. Bodies in the shop is a stat. 🙂

  184. He even declared somewhere, I read it, “You can’t be half in and half out of Scientology”. When I already was.

  185. Running “Can’t Be’s” is just as bad as running “Can’t Haves”. Add that to the “Can’t do’s” and you’ve got some can’t mixed in with the can. The entire theater of Scientology has morphed into Can’t Be Do or Have.
Any store front selling anything, is supposed to be running CAN HAVES. Or CAN BE’s or CAN DO’s. People pay for CAN. They don’t pay for CAN’T. Why the Orgs are empty. It is that simple. Trying to run a can’t have on the body, as in, “you really can’t have your body, that is degrading” is as lecherous as it gets. If you start a subtle aggression towards it, someone else can run it. Who has a purpose for it.

When he said, “It is quite remarkable that the magician attempts directly to use spirits to perform his will.” (from a Lecture given on 29 January 1958, The History of Clearing) I would say, “What magician?”

Command of Magic is a complete harmony with nature, it’s forces and conditions. An ARC so complete you occupy the same space with no distances. That is a long distance from “using spirits to perform his will”. Any reduction in ARC is a reduction in magicality. Using vias and cloaks is an indication of out ARC. And using vias and cloaks reduces ARC. Cloaks create a synthetic ARC. And why you see people doing the strange things they do under the mask of “religion”.

  186. I don’t think there is a higher state than Native State. It is rather sad for me to see people working to attain more than that. Thinking they are supposed to be more than that.

  187. Oracle, we all have our gifts. How those gifts come into manifestation is certainly a component of the story but is not the focus of the story. The contribution of the gift might be. A gift or gifts, though, does not make any persons more or less special than anyone else. We each have a part to play, we each have a purpose and generously sharing our gifts is integral. It seems to me that we are most happy when we are freely sharing our gifts with the world, the universe, and too, it seems that when we are happy that is when we are most powerful. But although this power is obviously ‘in’ us, I beginning to suspect that it is not ‘of’ us.

You wrote: “…it takes great magic to pull knowledge from the speaker. That is why auditing is so very, very, magical! It never gets said, until the right person asks the right question.” I couldn’t agree more! Sometime back I had an epiphany where I came to recognize that it wasn’t answers I was searching for, it was questions. Like a lighting bolt it hit me…I have All the answers! And it’s the questions that bring the answers from behind the veil and once again into view. I have also come to realize that the ‘right’ questions from the ‘right’ sources are constant in my journey. They are everywhere and in everything! I do not have to put my body in any ‘special’ place in order to get the ‘right’ question from the ‘right’ person. All I have to do is just let go of all my recordings of experiences that were and expectations of experiences that might be and learn to be in the present and listen to the question.

You also wrote: “All I can say is, Marty knows how to invite people to speak.” Yes, he certainly does. He is sane and presents no obstructions to inclusiveness. That is not to say that this blogspace is not a channel without sides but it’s a channel that is very wide and spacious and the sides are not rigid like the proverbial brick wall. Instead, the sides are more like a trampoline turned on its side. 🙂 There’s a policy letter of Hubbard’s, I think it’s title is Group Sanity and it’s in the Personnel Series. I recall a statement from that pl that went something like this: exclusion is a third dynamic psychosis. That’s one of the many things that LRH stated that I agree with.

  188. Oracle, you wrote: “People would not be in a body if they did not want to go into one to begin with. I don’t think it is a crime or a degraded condition to be in a body. I am still seeing it on the plus side of having a game and keeping myself busy. I wouldn’t want to be three feet in back on my head. I like my head. I like being in the head. Since I have been, and am currently exploring the message (supposedly as dictated by Jesus – which I view as a metaphor for my higher self) as written in the book, A Course in Miracles (ACIM)….I am constantly coming across material in the course that speaks to or parallels concepts being discussed here on Marty’s blog. Just to be clear, in my sharing excerpts from the course in my comments that I post, I have no agenda to ‘sell’ the course to anyone here or anywhere else. It’s just another perspective I’m adding to the table. That said, your comment about the body brought something I read in the course a while back to mind. I thought you might find this of some interest.

Excerpt from ACIM Text, Chapter 18, Section VIII (The Little Garden):

“It is only the awareness of the body that makes love seem limited. For the body is a limit on love. The belief in limited love was its origin, and it was made to limit the unlimited. Think not that this is merely allegorical, for it was made to limit you. Can you who see yourself within a body know yourself as an idea? Everything you recognize you identify with externals, something outside itself. You cannot even think of God without a body, or in some form you think you recognize.

“The body cannot know. And while you limit your awareness to its tiny senses, you will not see the grandeur that surrounds you. God cannot come into a body, nor can you join him there. Limits on love will always seem to shut him out, and keep you apart from him. The body is a tiny fence around a little part of a glorious and complete idea. It draws a circle, infinitely small, around a very little segment of Heaven, splintered from the whole, proclaiming that within it is your kingdom, where God can enter not.

“Within this kingdom the ego rules, and cruelly. And to defend this little speck of dust it bids you fight against the universe. This fragment of your mind is such a tiny part of it that, could you but appreciate the whole, you would see instantly that it is like the smallest sunbeam to the sun, or like the faintest ripple on the surface of the ocean. In its amazing arrogance, this tiny sunbeam has decided it is the sun; this almost imperceptible ripple hails itself as the ocean. Think how alone and frightened is this little thought, this infinitesimal illusion, holding itself apart against the universe. The sun becomes the sunbeam’s “enemy” that would devour it, and the ocean terrifies the little ripple and wants to swallow it.

“Such is the strange position in which those in a world inhabited by bodies seem to be. Each body seems to house a separate mind, a disconnected thought, living alone and in no way joined to the Thought by which it was created. Each tiny fragment seems to be self-contained, needing another for some things, but by no means totally dependent on its one Creator for everything; needing the whole to give it any meaning, for by itself it does mean nothing. Nor has it any life apart and by itself.”

  189. Oracle, I really enjoyed your poem!

‘Charge’ is the fabric used to weave the the unholy veil. ‘Charge’ is a barnacle with venom. As long as it’s stuck to one, it is ever secreting poison into its host who is not willing to let it go. ‘Charge’ is unforgiveness of self.

I am very happy Oracle that you have no ‘charge’ on so many things. Certainly, the veil has thinned for you.

  190. “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” ~ Victor E. Frankl

In this ‘space’ between stimulus and response that Victor speaks of, I believe that, ultimately, there are only two responses that we have to choose between. One is love and the other fear. If we choose to respond in fear we have guaranteed that we will experience pain, suffering, loss, chaos, complexity and so on. If we choose to respond in love, despite the chaos that may appear to be occurring in our perception, we will remain in peace without need, want, obligation or compulsion to judge and condemn.

  191. Beautiful prose. Whoever creates their own reality is certainly a Super Natural force. Probably why we all find Marty and his life so fascinating. He blatantly creates his own reality.

It is a co dependent universe. No food without rain. And what you are dependent upon you become the effect of. The crops become the effect of the sun. The oceans becomes the effect of the moon. I am aware of the fragile conditions. I just don’t have charge on it.

I see being cause and being effect as basic thetan rights and abilties. Not handicaps. I just admit my decadence. My willingness to live intensely under these conditions. Yes, I admit I accept these terms and conditions for living. And I accept myself the way I am. If this is “ego” , I admit I have it. I am guilty of it all. I confess I don’t have any charge on that either.

It sure has been swell sharing my transgressions with you. 🙂

  192. Thanks for all your comments, Oracle. As you said in a comment above, we’ve had “a nice chat back in this corner”. 🙂
