How the FSO was lost – the final purges part 2

To corrupt the Mecca DM had to take out its leader

By mid this decade, Miscavige had destroyed nearly every executive at Int, FLO, and CMO units. Meanwhile, Captain FSO Debbie Cook had gotten on DM’s good side. He had pulled her (and a number of other FSO execs and regges, including Harvey Jaques “to whip” the regges and FSMs) off of FSO production twice in order to organize two mass regging affairs (one at Maiden Voyage at Flag and another at the the main IAS event in UK) where her efforts netted over thirty million dollars in donations for IAS.

In late 05/early 06 Debbie was pulled to ASI by Miscavige. Miscavige briefed Debbie on what a bunch of incompetents and saboteurs all International base execs and staff allegedly were. Miscavige openly nattered viciously about Jenny Devocht, Angie Blankenship, Russ Bellin (those first three had pretty much been his most ‘trusted’ troika for a couple years running at that point) Guillaume Lesevre, Marc Yager, Mike Rinder and other Int and Gold execs. DM installed the Cruise everybody-is-a-db-and-out-to-get-me implant.

DM took Debbie to the Int base for the Maiden Voyage event preparations. Debbie was being touted as the new savoir of Int, shadowing him all day long on his event preparation rounds. This was an age-old Miscavige ploy for destroying people. He’d bring in outside people who were “untainted” and use their “products” to denigrate Int execs, then after a short meteoric rise, Miscavige would inevitably shoot them down in flames.

With event preps done, Miscavige then took Debbie to the ship with him and used her for a couple of his OT summit seminars. Mark Ginga Nelson was the CO CMO CW at the time and up to this point he accompanied Debbie on her DM mascot tours. But, then “he bit it” with DM; not giving him acceptable answers during his marathon hypothetical questions sessions. Poor Mark apparently did not agree with COB on a couple of things; and that was the end of him.

Debbie was sent back to the FLB to handle all building plans that Ginga Nelson allegedly sabotaged, Super Power building, Oak Cove, FH renos, etc. Before she went, for weeks DM expressed approval of everything Debbie proposed on the buildings, but not once did he officially approve anything, he never put his initials on a single csw. He ordered Debbie to become the Capt FLB. Miscavige put a tremendous amount of pressure on Debbie to find a replacement and get her Capt FSO hat turned over. Debbie started forming up an FLB org, sort of a “little satellite FOLO” is what Miscavige ordered.  Miscavige wanted Debbie on nothing but MEST upgrade; to the exclusion of FSO delivery.

Debbie became the terminal to handle the high-powered outside design firm, Gensler. Debbie chose the designer. Debbie’s plans were liked by DM. Instead of putting pedal to the metal to get them done; he did what he always does. He had a CGI special effects fly through done to show at an event to convince his public that he was really doing something.  Since Debbie was ‘doing well’ on DM’s lines, he started shoving more and more Int landlord problems (along with the ever present natter that Int staff were incapable of handling it) at her.

DM nattered himself so far into the corner (running out of SO staff to natter about) that he set up for an outside corporation to act as project manager for the Idle Orgs program. That would be Roger Staubach’s (former Dallas Cowboy quarterback) company.  The arrangement was for Gensler to design each org and for Staubach to execute the construction and renovations.

The honeymoon started going south (as did every previous one DM ever had with a competent executive on Landlord lines – Sarah Blythe, Bitty Blythe Miscavige, Tom Devocht, et al, ad nauseum) when Debbie ran into the achilles heel of his micro-management. That is nobody could ever get any approvals from the one guy who had to approve anything. Angie Blankenship (who rose to COB project Ops early this decade) was powerless to get anything back to Debbie. She also ran into the “vaporization” problem on DM’s lines. Angie wound up vaporized, as did several Int Landlord staff during Debbie’s stint.

In early 07, Debbie went back to Int to give a tour of the Int HQ base to the Gensler people.  Debbie was just about to leave the base after having done her duty, when DM (who by then was hanging out in LA at ASI; the 70 million dollar palace on the base apparently was not good enough for him) told Debbie “wait, not so fast.”  Mr Musical Chairs issued yet a new cross order to Debbie – handle all the promo for “the basics” release.  Of course, Central Marketing had been working on it for nearly a decade and had never gotten a single approval.

When Debbie headed to CMU (Central Marketing Unit)  to pick up the pieces and save the day, she was horrified to find out DM had literally dismantled it. The promo unit she had at the FSO was a well oiled machine by comparison to what was left at Int. DM demanded images, posters, info packs, extension course packs, for every single book and lecture. The CMU, which a few short years earlier had over sixty well trained, creative and competent staff had been decimated by a series of DM purges, leaving a skeleton crew barely able to produce a single flier.

All the while Debbie was pulled into the patented DM push-pull implant. On the one hand she was being denigrated for not getting her CO FSO hat turned over, and then when she’d make any mention of progress on same, she would get blistered by DM scolding her that he never ordered her to turn her hat over. Finally, she was forced to adopt the only solution acceptable to DM; appoint thirty-year crim reg veteran Harvey Jaques to take over as CO FSO.

The die was cast. Progressively, more and more FSO staff were converted into Reges.  Executives reged. Ethics Officers reged. OSA staff reged. Ultimately, in a macabre version of reverse Scientology, Examiners reged pcs after sessions and the FSO was finally lost when Auditors, yes Auditors, began regularly reging their own pc’s.  Not for auditing, mind you, but reging their pcs for book packages for libraries and IAS slush fund donations.

Ted Horner arises – hallelujah!

Ted Horner was one of my earliest opinion leaders in the SO.  My first SO job in January 78 was serving on one of the PAC renos missions that he operated. He seemed to be able to keep an even, easy going,  and friendly manner no matter how heavy the pressure got.  Though many can attest I wasn’t so successful, I tried to emulate Ted’s cool. Ted exuded that same calm throughout the wild eighties at Int/Gold.  He seems to have landed in an environment and created a life that meets his pleasant demeanor.  Here’s Ted’s story in his own words:

Ted sailing off Belize

Gosh, this narrative has been over a year in the making.

To start off, I have to credit Jeff Hawkins (Fishdaddy) for being my initial inspiration.  Don’t be fooled by his calm, soft-spoken style.  Hawk, you have the heart of a lion when you published your Counterfeit Dreams, long before most others even ventured to reveal their identities.

Hats off as well to Marty, for being a breath of fresh air among the toxic “natter boards” and for his coming clean.  So what if he attracts a bunch of yapping critics? His biggest asset is his capacity to grant beingness, an ability we can all work on a lot harder.

I hate like hell writing a first-person narrative, it seems so self-serving, but here goes:

I stumbled onto Scientology in the summer of 1973 in Denver, Colorado, the target of a body-router from the Denver Mission.  Scientology was an attractive subject to a 20 year-old college dropout, looking to find his way in the world.

Denver Mission was big.  An HQS Course operated in the unfinished basement of a storefront with over 100 enthusiastic students. The supervision was tough and unreasonable.  The 4 – 5 month comprehensive course on the basics of Scientology cost just $100. Academy Levels in those days were only a few hundred bucks.  A few years later, I paid $600 dollars for the Saint Hill Special Briefing Course, joining hundreds of others at ASHO.

Flash forward 35 years and it is obvious that something is very seriously wrong with the institution of Scientology, and not only the high prices.

My connection with organized Scientology ended after 20 years when I successfully managed to blow from the Int Base on July 4th 1993.  It was truly my Independence Day.

While I was a fugitive from OSA and its private investigators, I never really stopped applying the Scientology philosophy and technology.  I did so naturally, in whatever way it might better my life and those in my environment. I still do.

I have to credit those on Marty’s Blog for giving me clarity on the premise that even though the organized church has gone corrupt, this is entirely different from the actual technology and philosophy.  They helped me see that it is okay to practice Scientology, just, please, not the organized brand.

I’ve had plenty of the organized brand of Scientology to last me a lifetime, and maybe a few more.

I started on staff at Narconon when it was a GO social coordination project.  This brought me to LA and eventually the Sea Org, where I initially worked in mission operations setting up the Big Blue Complex.

I was then recruited “over the rainbow” and was posted as an Assistant Cameraman.  My senior was an abrasive, loudmouth punky teenager, named David Miscavige; at least that’s how I saw him at the time.  I would never be very far from him over the next 15 years.

Doreen Smith Gillham turned over her hat to me as LRH Equipment I/C in 1978 and this evolved into the post of Film & Equipment I/C under the LRH Household Unit. Over the next 7 or 8 years I worked primarily as a photographer and equipment logistics person for LRH.  In those later years, he used photography as a pleasant diversion. It was something he could do when he was cooped up at those confidential locations.

At times, the Old Man would get very enthusiastic about his photography.  It was not unusual for me to receive half a dozen lengthy dispatches in a single traffic run which would send me combing LA and Hollywood on research and purchasing trips.

DM was never very far away.  By the early 80s, he was the final traffic filter from the base to LRH.  My traffic eventually went directly to DM then passed onto LRH.

I have to say this; DM completely supported and backed up the work of my unit at that time. Previously, when I was forced to send my traffic via CMO Int or the Watch Messengers, there were inevitable slows and arbitrary rejects. He removed them. It was fast flow management and I moved into a high ethics condition and I WAS given protection.

Later, from my limited perspective, DM began to change.  He discovered the power of those infamous public events.  I was there from the beginning as producer and director until I left in 1993. What started out as a way to use television techniques to bring management’s message directly to staffs throughout the world, evolved into a big money propaganda machine.

Add to that his obsession with Hollywood stardom, and he just ended up buying his own brand of BS and finds he can’t stop himself or the insanity.

At the end he began tearing up my unit, the one he had supported for so many years. It was ironic that it was here that the directives on establishing and protecting production lines was piloted under LRH direction.

People commonly ask, “Why didn’t you do something to stop it?” The changes were very slow, over many years, and more importantly, we were blinded by our own complicity.

We are all responsible to some degree for DM and what the Church of Scientology had become.  Anyone who says otherwise, either wasn’t there, or hasn’t a shred of responsibility.

After abruptly leaving the Sea Org, I have been blessed to live a life better than perhaps I am entitled to.  I credit much of that to the man and his philosophy and technology, to my many comrades throughout the years, and even to that abrasive, loudmouth punky bastard.

I am not promising to join the ranks of “crusaders” but I will not pass up any reasonable opportunity to help set some things straight.

DM always had a unique capacity to bring out the best and the worst in all of us, so in the later case, if anyone has any complaints with me from those days, please contact me, and I’ll try to make it right for you.

That is also an invitation for any of my old friends, or anyone at all, to contact me directly at belizeted@yahoo.com.

Reform

LRH wrote a despatch to someone at ASI when I worked there in the early eighties. He commented that one cannot win an argument with a psychiatrist. That is because right when you have the psych cornered, he simply says “you’re crazy” and that is the end of the argument.  DM is losing huge. How do we know? He has been reduced to sending little “OT VIII”  harbingers of evil tidings around L.A. to call Mary Jo Leavitt “psychotic.”  You think they have the cajones to say it to her face?  Of course not.  You don’t think there is any coincidence he’s accused me of  being a “fucking lunatic” on the record through Tommy boy? And when fourteen more stood up and corroborated the facts, all Tommy had to say was “Marty has a habit of collecting lunatics.”  They are desperate, man. Why?

What has been happening out in the independent field for the past nine months has had huge effects within.

Do you realize it is a virtual certainty that nobody has been beaten up at the Int base since June 21?   One of Miscavige’s first moves when confronted with the public revelations about the Hole was to close it down. He killed two birds with one stone. He moved International Management into his $75 million palace; and now he has minions writing perjured declarations that that is what it was intended for all along.  Of course, he has not had to rub elbows with what he considers the riff raff because Miscavige has largely kept himself out of the country to avoid the media, law enforcement, and other motivators. But, it doesn’t take much to buy a person who has been effectively held captive in a torture chamber for years. So, before long you’ll see other testimonials from visitors who have seen International Management’s posh quarters and a bunch of smiling faces behind the desks. I suspected this would occur, and it is one of the reasons I didn’t get too excited about all the demands that I go get law enforcement to raid the base and free the slaves.  Law enforcement would have arrived and seen a Chinese restaurant where the numbers racket normally operates.

A lot of people have received repayments and refunds with little hassle this year. Yes, the Church has been attempting to make people sign gag orders in “exchange” for r/r’s but those who listened to sound advice refused and received their money anyway.

Millions of dollars in freeloader debts have been canceled. Many families have been reunited because the Miscavige regime has made deals to prevent people from becoming independent.

Long-term creditors have been paid off overnight.

PI’s are being withdrawn too rapidly to be orderly.

For the first time since LRH passed away millions of dollars have been spent on Scientology ads.  The campaign was launched on 15 May, exactly five days after the St Pete Times phoned Tommy asking to interview DM.  You can hardly click on any site making mention of the word Scientology without being bombarded with ads.  You might get the idea this is bad as it directs more potential victims into the belly of the beast. I doubt it. DM has the doors to the orgs welded shut with his exorbitant prices, suppressive finance systems, and creepy programs to take PEOPLE out of the dissemination cycle.  In the past couple months I personally have gotten three brand new people onto the independent Bridge because they happened across my blog while investigating the subject more on the net. When you talk truth on the subject, including not withholding or lying about what is going on with the church, it is almost impossible not to interest someone in the subject.

I have had people thank me for advising they take a strong stand that justice be done when to their surprise they found cycles they could not sort out for decades magically come right with the church.  They apologized that they couldn’t stand with us – but swore lasting friendship (albeit secretly).

Every person who stands up represents perhaps dozens who will be treated more humanely,  at least temporarily. I am sure that many of the people Mary Jo Leavitt reported on as being abused and ripped off by the church have already been made whole by the church. Not out of a sense of justice but to cover DM’s derrier.  And so Mary Jo and Sherry and Steve and Dan and Marriet and Shannon and Hiro and Christie and Cathy and Roberto and Damaris and Jim (and all fourteen who spoke out during the summer) have helped hundreds if not thousands of  people. They may never be thanked by the vast majority of people they helped.  But, I know what they have done and the ripple effects they have created and want them to know they are appreciated.

It is almost amusing to see people get all worked up about coups, and org boards, and moving in and taking charge. Why bother? DM and his minions have been largely working on our agenda  for the better part of the year.  I can  tell you on just about any given day where DM’s latest Boy Friday Tommy Davis is and what he is doing.  And I don’t have to hack reservation computers like he does to find out. We cause it. Sure, they continue with their criminality, and their reg tactics and squirrel tech are reaching new unprecedented lows (that is tough to change as  is inherently what they are about).  But, don’t lose sight of the fact that they’ve been forced take their boots off of the necks of many individuals.

While he has spent more than ten million dollars (conservative estimate) trying to keep the story local to Tampa Bay, Miscavige is busy churning out internal propaganda that he is under one of the greatest attacks from the forces of evil because of Scientology’s “unprecedented expansion.”  He figures he’ll get away with that Big Lie and weather this storm like he has so many others in the past.

Don’t fall for it for one second. I have seen the cycle repeat numerous times. When the heat is on he acts like little Lord Fauntelroy who never did anything wrong in his life (except maybe not save enough ailing doves).  The second the heat is off, he pulls off the benevolent “religious leader” mask, and announces in his best Jack Torrance, “Hello dear, I’m hoooooooooommmmeeee!” And it is hell all over again for everyone within striking distance.

While you all should take a win for all the individual people who have been helped, do not fall for the cosmetic – ad hoc basis – reform. In fact, it is no better than the flip side of the mafia protection racket.  Organized crime creates the threat, then protects the victim from the threat, for a price.

Nova Scotia Independent – Jim Logan

jimlogan

Jim Logan has been independent as long as I have known him. At the Int base in the late eighties he was famous (notorious in that off Source environment) for ignoring off-policy Cramming Orders from the likes of DM, and using his technical tools to find out and remedy whatever happened to be wrong with troubled staff members.

As Drummer for the Golden Era Musicians in the early nineties his independence became too much for Miscavige. At a Maiden Voyage Anniversery event the band’s leader announced an order from DM that the band was to learn “I Want Your Sex” by George Michael.  Jim openly defied the order stating he refused to learn and play “I Want Your Sex” at the top of the Bridge for OT VIIIs as it was less than appropriate in that environment. Jim then became a target for Messengers directed by DM to make his life miserable.

When the harrassment continued after arrival back at the Int Base, Jim petitioned to have a certain particularly attack dog oriented Messenger investigated by CMO superiors. This petition resulted in an off-policy Non-Enturbulation Order (despite being productive and upstat on post and despite a recently cleared ethics file) being issued on Jim and his illegal removal from his post. Eventually he would be found guilty by RTC of an SP Act of ‘Mutiny’ for refusing to perform this ‘COB ordered’ song.

Jim was sentenced to the Running Program (squirrel Cause Resurgance RD), separated from his wife (Annie Broker Logan), and put under watch.  Jim was subjected to a series of confrontations from several senior RTC and Int executives designed to cave him in. But, unlike many before and after him, Jim wouldn’t “crack.” Since Annie was a security risk of magnitude and Jim was not submitting to mind control, DM started personally driving a wedge between husband and wife (he took to paying great attention to Annie’s post, and riding her around the base on the back of his custom motorcycle).

Jim never did buckle, was declared and headed back to his native Nova Scotia. In order to satisfy the concerns of loved ones, Jim read every anti-Scientology book they supplied him,  following with a simple handling of the false data.  Acting on advice given to Annie by LRH personally to get trained,   Jim decided to study Scientology from the bottom up again, but this time with some scientific grounding. He embarked on a study of basic science, and only when he had a firm grasp of that, did he re-study Scientology from the basics, through the R and D, and up through St Hill research and beyond.

I believe Jim’s brutal honesty and self-discipline paid off big. I have found no one, either in or out of the Church, who has a deeper appreciation and understanding of the tech than Jim. He is my go-to guy when I am looking for the applicable reference in some detour I hit in life. He is not some know-best  priest. He thinks with the subject in terms of “what tool can we find here to handle the situation we are confronting.”

Jim is a fishing guide, a fisheries inspector, and a freelance professional drummer residing in the beautiful coastal region of Nova Scotia. He is a guiding light to people from all over the world navigating the fog of unreason that thickens around the Church.

Jim reminds me of the passage in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest where the Chief explains to McMurphy what society feels it needs to do with a big man who is perceived to be just too independent. It has to corral him, to reduce him in size and make him suggestable, it needs to get him back in the herd with the rest of the sheep. Remember, when in the end, the Chief decides he won’t be so reduced, breaks the window to the mental ward, and runs across the field to freedom?  Ever wonder what became of him? I kind of feel like we found the Chief.
