Leah Remini and her Troublemakers, Part 7

  1. It’s sick, twisted, and also very sad. Mike’s a smart man. At the end of the day, he knows the truth. I wonder if he has any internal struggle with reality vs. ‘showtime’ reality? One would think he would. Ultimately, his question should be, is this worth it monetarily, morally, and ethically?

  2. I think it’s interesting that the church is using Mark’s videos, that actually made me laugh because it’s just so perverse.

Note: As far as I can tell, they only started using them sometime since June 23 (google’s last cache of their aftermath site that doesn’t show their new post using his videos).

Even more interesting to me, is watching how fast (perhaps too fast, in light of what this part 7 says) the conclusions being jumped to out there were about said use of videos.

It just seems to me that there is such a lynch mob mentality going on towards certain people right now (Mark, Mike and I, Scott Gordon) that it is literally surreal how bad a lot of these people seem to WANT certain ideas to be true. It’s as if everybody’s false standards they use to determine “true” or “false” or being shaken to the core.

I kind of like that actually.

Seems…useful? Refreshing? Critical point accurately struck? Aw hell. I can’t describe it. Maybe someone gets what I’m trying to say anyway.

  3. …”So Rinder begins establishing his credibility by saying: “If the Church believed someone was an enemy and needed to be silenced it was my job and I did it. I challenge anyone to go find and cull, in the 7… in the 9 years he’s been out, to find the specific confession of his having silenced anybody. There’s not a single one.”

    I’ve noticed that, too.

Are you saying that he wasn’t really involved in any of these activities to silence the enemies of the Church, and he is just using this lie to establish his credibility on Leah Remini’s “Scientology and the Aftermath”?

If you aren’t saying that, what specific projects did Mike Rinder run to silence which specific critics or enemies of the Church of Scientology?

  4. The problem is that Mike is being funded by some outside source to attack Scientology and I’m sure they expect a return on their investment.

It’s true that the Church of Scientology is no paragon of virtue but there are a lot of sects that are a lot worse which are barely mentioned by the mainstream media which are actually involved in some very deep dark operations fully supported by the Intelligence Community and various financial interests.

  5. Taryn didn’t seem like she was acting to me either, but her description of what happened when she, her brother Benjamin, Mike’s ex-wife and the others went to supposedly try to talk to Mike after he had blown from the church – did not at all resemble what was actually said by any of them. We know this because it was all recorded by John Sweeney via Mike’s phone. Taryn’s details of what was said and done were completely different from what was recorded. So even though she may have been telling the truth as she saw it, her mindset back then and/or her later memory of what had occurred is entirely different from what acutally happened.

One thing I’m seeing very clearly with all the back and forth and comments that have been made about these videos is that people really do see things through quite some heavy filters, and they probably aren’t at all aware of it or even consider the possibility. An amazing learning lesson.

  6. “One thing I’m seeing very clearly with all the back and forth and comments that have been made about these videos is that people really do see things through quite some heavy filters, and they probably aren’t at all aware of it or even consider the possibility. An amazing learning lesson.”

I’m just spit-balling here, but I’m wondering if a sense of group loyalty might block a person from being able to process information in new and different ways…

    Oh that’s preposterous.

I’m sorry for even bringing it up.

  7. i think I get what you’re saying. I have a very different view of humanity, since the Internet came along, and I started reading blog comments and comments in general on news and social media sites. There are a LOT of TROLLS out there, and a lot of knee-jerk emotional people. They react to the world as a Rorschach test.
The example I’m thinking of right now is the number of people over at Mike and Tony’s who are saying with tremendous certainty that Marty sold out and is now owned by Miscavige. How do they know? What proof do they have? These are probably the same people who cry for “proof” that scientology has done anything good for anyone. “Where’s the proof?!” is the war cry, except in the things they want to be thought of as “expert” in, like Marty’s character and the reasons for him being the way he is.

I think kinda miss Alanzo. I was surprised by his sudden “Peace, Out” maneuver, but I could see his blog was getting out of hand. I wonder if, how and where he will appear again?

Well, considering Marty has links to a ton of media about the evils of the CoS, it seems very unlikely that he “sold out” to DM. Those links are still up. If anything, the CoS has walked right into a trap, because by using Marty’s videos they are promoting Marty, they are pointing people to those links.
I too find what Marty is doing, refreshing.

  8. Yeah. Mike sees spiders on Marty’s walls. What does Mike see on his own walls?

  9. Asking Mike to back up any of his assertions with documentation of any kind is an adventurous exercise.

I did and was 86ed from his blog.

As far as silencing critics of the Church. All one has to do is read the Wired article Alt Scientology War
    https://www.wired.com/1995/12/alt-scientology-war/

to see how incompetent he was as the head of OSA.

Personally when I was on lines at the time. I considered OSA more of an embarrassment than the GO.

As far as I was concerned OSA started more fires than they actually put out under Rinder’s reign but maybe that’s just my view.

    That said.

It is ironic that Rinder became the Frankenstein of the monster that he created by hobbling together the former Guardian’s Office.

  10. I was very surprised by Alanzo’s “Peace Out”. Moreso than by his 180 towards Marty and Ortega within about 24 hours. Tho’ re: Ortega he only stated he agreed with him on one point, but the sudden turn against Marty, agreeing with Ortega on one point? It seemed to have come out of the left cornfield.

Alanzo ultimately owes no one an explanation for anything. He’s a person who showed a willingness to hear people out, to ‘agree to disagree’, and one could have engage in some good conversations there. I wish him nothing but the best in life and hope that his blog closure was his own decision. Sometimes it is best to just to walk away from things. Or since he lived in the cornfields, reenter the cornfields and live his life on his own terms.

  11. No doubt they would expect a return on their investment. Such a shame, that someone would make such an investment, and one would get caught up in that.

I totally agree with you about other sects that are a lot worse. How/why they are barely acknowledged I guess we’ll never know. And yes, the MSM is involved in such things, so much for objectivity. Sigh. The world just seems very dark.

  12. Those filters could be called ‘service facsimiles’, or perhaps more accurately ‘self-serving game strategies.’ Each one seems perfectly consistent and logical – just as long as it’s viewed from the inside. I get one surprise after another as they drop away, but it’s a long journey.

  13. Actually, Mike must have looked at that video and seen it as proof positive that his daughter was lying for the church, or was being their automaton, since she tells a whole different story from what the recording clearly indicates. But what I’m saying is that she may have had a mindset, back when it happened, that would have caused her to completely misinterpret what was going on, or else over the years that followed she started seeing it differently, either because of input from others or all on her own.

With regard to what she said about the kind of father Mike had been when she was a child, her view on that may also have been influenced by others, especially her mother – or maybe not. Maybe it was her own mental recreation of events. Either way, she seemed convinced about it and, as Marty said, didn’t seem to be acting.

As for Mike, he probably considers that he had virtually no opportunity to spend time with her, given the position he was in as a senior exec, and there was probably a lot of truth to that. But at the same time, Mike was a pretty fanatical staff member, which he himself has basically admitted – and he wasn’t the only one.

In other words, it’s a complex picture to start with – and extremely subjective. It’s no wonder, in situations like this, that the “discussion” can get very heated.

  14. The HE&R in the comments on Mike’s blog is reaching a crescendo of wildly hysterical fantastic explanations and vilification of Marty. A number of people actually state with great certainty that Marty is certainly getting a huge payout from DM and is now DM’s sock, through the videos. Thje utter illogicality of this escapes them. Thjey simply don’t think things thorugh at all. Its amazing! I’m thinking of joining Alanzo in his cornfield wherever it is. I was already halfway there when Marty started posting these videos. Now I feel a horrible fascination reading the comments on Mike’s blog. I haven’t even tried Tony’s! And I already feel like “Beam me up, Scotty!”

  15. Mike R and Tony O are very, very upset at how Marty is traducing them in these videos. There was a post that Marty made last year where he listed all the abuse and armchair-psychoanalysis which was directed towards him in the Bunker comments when Monique dropped their lawsuit. Maybe what goes around comes around; and maybe this was the day that Tony was going to “rue”?

(I thought Mike’s first response post was classy. Not sure about further reactions.)

  16. Here’s what I mean by they don’t think things through. I posted this on Mike’s blog. It’s still in moderation:

“Think it through, please. If the intended audience is still-ins and on-the-fencers, the Church has really walked into a trap and shot off both its feet, because Marty’s blog has a whole sidebar of links to media very critical of the Church, and exposing its worst aspects. By promoting Marty it is practically telling its members to check out Marty’s blog and find all those links on the page that comes up.”

  17. Jonathon from Philly

The Rathbun Family, under siege from the Squirrel Busters 180 days. Under siege from the anti Scientology community 180 months. Lesser of the two evils. We get it.

  18. The Village Voice was converted into a human trafficking criminal enterprise. Tony Ortega lived off the money of sex trafficking, much of it from minors, for almost six years. This is not gossip, and I am not the first to mention it. It is in a Senate investigation report.
    https://www.hsgac.senate.gov/subcommittees/investigations/reports
It has been written about by media watchdog sites.
    http://thedailycannibal.com/2012/09/11/the-voice-loves-children-really/
    http://gawker.com/5860101/pickets-lawsuits-sex-ads-and-hard-times-at-the-village-voice
    http://gawker.com/5642182/village-voice-has-a-child-prostitution-problem
When confronted about it Tony Ortega first denied it, then used the Village Voice to decimate any other journalists who mentioned it. And finally, turned on the victims trafficked there and worked to dehumanize them by calling them “underage prostitutes”. Not children, which they were. There is no such thing as an “underaged prostitute”. Minors who are forced into sexual slavery are not “underage prostitutes”. He tried to poison people against his victims! CHILDREN.
The college he graduated from invited him back to receive an award, with the purpose of motivating students. When he arrived they were out front protesting him. And on this video you hear his acceptance speech, he only talks about himself and then gaslights the students out front by saying “they don’t understand”.

The Village Voice founder’s son even protested in New York in front of Tony Ortega’s office.

With protestors surrounding the building, Tony Ortega denied he had anything to do with Backpage to a reporter at the Gawker.
“As for the protests today, I wish them the best of luck. No one who actually works in this office has anything to do with Backpage, but still, I understand why they picked our building.” Tony Ortega Nov 16, 2011
A blatant lie. He gaslighted anyone who caught on to what he was doing, how he was doing it, bringing his victims to light, exposing him for working as a digital pimp.
A few months earlier he was bragging about Backpage and included himself as one of the managers with a “WE”. And actually tried to change the conversation to wars in Afganistan!
“Our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are receding fast from public consciousness. Our economy is gradually crawling back. Crime remains at record lows. A new presidential campaign is only in its earliest stages.
What’s there to panic about today?”
“Seven years ago, the people I work for were smart enough to start Backpage.com, a competitor to Craigslist. While other newspapers were doing little more than publicly condemning Newmark (Note: Craig Newmark is an American Internet entrepreneur best known for being the founder of the San Francisco-based international website Craigslist.) for the way Craigslist has, for years, eaten into their classified-ads revenue, we decided to fight back. That’s just how we operate.
What happens when two adults find each other through Backpage.com? I couldn’t tell you. The whole point of Backpage.com is that we aren’t involved after two consenting adults find each other through the community bulletin board, which exists solely so that people can freely express themselves—sometimes in ways that make other people uncomfortable. We’re First Amendment extremists that way. Always have been.”

Attorneys general from 48 states had written a joint letter to Village Voice Media, pleading with it to get out of the flesh trade. An online petition at Change.org had gathered 94,000 signatures asking Village Voice Media to stop taking prostitution advertising. Instead, the company used The Village Voice to mock its critics. One victim who gave a news interview said she thought about using her real name for the article but decided not to for fear that Village Voice would retaliate. The victims became afraid of the Village Voice.

“I helped turn a weekly newspaper with a web site into a digital enterprise.” Tony Ortega bragged to the New York Times Blog Media Decoder on September 14, 2012 after leaving the Village Voice.
His sadistic disregard for children being raped and trafficked for personal income is revolting. Senate investigations revealed Backpage staff were even coaching pimps on how to word ads so they would not get busted selling minors!

And when they were finally caught red handed, coaching men on how to sell children for sex, they did shut down right before they had to appear in court in Washington. And played the victim card. “Their Freedom of Speech” was being violated.

When Amber Lyon did her expose “Selling The Girl Next Door”, which focused on backpage, Tony Ortega gaslighted her and devoted a page in the Village Voice to decimating her.
“Underage prostitution is a persistent problem in this country, but as we established in last week’s cover story, it exists at a level that is nothing like what is being trumpeted by Amber Lyon on the behalf of activists who want to put us out of business.” Tony Ortega
Again he tries to dehumanize children being raped and sold by calling them “underage prostitutes” and says THEY are the problem. Sadistic disregard.

I do not understand why he has become a crusader for disappointed hippies that explored the occult. But Leah Remini has followed in his footsteps.
Apparently, she can live with children being raped and sold on the Internet and endorse a notorious child sex trafficker, Tony Ortega, while complaining abuse between adults that explored the occult. And so can Lawrence Wright and Alex Gibney. And anyone else complaining they got a flat tire on the way to Nirvana while tolerating and endorsing Tony Ortega.
As far as Tony Ortega getting other media to pick up his blog posts and spread them, during interviews with former Village Voice staff and former peers, one mentioned the media no longer repeats Tony Ortega’s blogging as since he has only been able to write about one topic besides defending Backpage in over a decade, he is understood as manifesting high-functioning autism / afflicted with Asperger Syndrome.
I’m sorry but I can not start giving discount points to men who profit off the misery of women and children and survive on the proceeds of children being exploited, raped and sold on the Internet. Whatever their condition is. They are still criminals.
I have no idea why he and Leah Remini are comfortable with that yet repelled by adults who chose to explore the occult and were disappointed.
Something does not add up in this picture. How can you have compassion for people disappointed exploring the occults and sadistic disregard for children being tortured?

  19. DEATH:

This morning at 7:46AM my former husband’s beloved black labrador, who he rescued as a panicked and already at least 8 years old from a road. She had been running so long and so fast after her former owners who during the economic downturn in 2008, had abandoned her.

She never left his side after that rescue.

My former husband was determined to allow her to die at home, in her own bed.

I had been bathing her these last few days.

She took her LAST out-breath just as my ex and I entered her room, after a short walk with his Golden Retriever.

    ———————————-

Here’s my point. She didn’t look like herself when she died. She was down to probably 30 pounds from around 65. She sadly had some bed sores.
She had lost lots of hair.

We bathed her body several times. I brushed her. And we placed her on a white towel where she will stay for 3 days. Then she will be buried in his backyard, which is legal where he lives.

    ——————————–

Whether OR not you found or developed a spiritual tradition after leaving scientology. Whether OR not you believe in past or future lives.

Regardless — you will die. As will I.

AND we each will lose that OUTER shell that currently defines us, in part. We will either be cremated or buried. Unless we live in Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, parts of China as poor farmers, where cremation is costly and burial is impossible due to the frozen ground.

In those places where cremation isn’t possible – our bodies would be chopped up at the “charnal grounds” for the vultures to eat.

AND our corpses are not pretty. After the outer layer which can be beautiful we are basically all the same. And believe me, if you’ve ever dissected a corpse — not very attractive.

    ————————————–

The constant name calling. The constant intrigue and chest pounding of how MY loss is greater than YOUR loss. His “sin” is greater than MY sin.

Is really details about THIS SHORT PERIOD of time — even IF one might have been involved with scientology for 20, 30, 40 years. A scant few who started when Hubbard did — have mostly passed by now.

    —————————————–
I admit that to a deep curiosity and attachment to reading the posts on Mike’s blog — seeing IF certain people I knew and know their personal stories and lives are still posting and supporting him.

I admit to reading Tony’s blog — mostly to SEE if there might be word about former friends who have passed or perhaps have left.

    —————————————-

In the end, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. BUT during the middle we have choices.

Do we try to learn more and more about our OWN minds so that our OWN discriminating awareness and choices *might* be wise ones and compassionate ones.

OR do we pile on each other like a pack of starving dogs for a bit of meat.

It’s always and only UP to us.

    With love,
    Windhorse

  21. A humorous way to put it, but probably true that “a sense of group loyalty might block a person from being able to process information in new and different ways…” But that’s the nicer way of putting it. I’ve also heard it described as merely an extension of ego into a group ego.

  22. That sure seems like a road “out.” A road to total freedom for real. Maybe the only road, basically. I’m curious what “method” you’re using, if you care to say.

  23. Tom Klemesrud

Wouldn’t it be perfect to expose Mike Rinder as the perpetrator of the Miss Bloodybutt crimes right before the season premiere? Do it, before he does it, to control the narrative. Tell about the moles at ABC-TV that were doing dirty tricks on the Prospect lot throughout and after one of ABC’s employees was Defendant in RTC V Netcom. Name the middle-manager moles working with Rinder to fire the Defendant/critic.

  24. Theresa Laster

One of the few sane comments I’ve seen on this subject. Thank you.

  25. True believers of any faith would not be likely to go and read criticisms of it. IMO Marty’s videos would confirm to Scientologists that they are being unfairly attacked and they would look no further, at least not immediately. Whether or not that’s “acceptable” might be part of the debate. It’s probably impossible to do business these days without using the internet, so the CoS would hope that if members look at anything about scn it would be something somewhat defending it. Perhaps reading something positive might in fact allow a glimmer of hope that “not everyone is against us” and from that viewpoint allow further investigation.

  26. That’s the beauty of it, Richard. There are upwards of 30 links I believe, and most of them are to TV and other audio-visual media. So the visitors would not need to read anything.

  27. As I saw it Alanzo was promoting “Live and let live” or more simply “tolerance ” toward scn, scn-ists, and ex scn-ists of all types. But then again he continued to take jabs at various internet personalities he had beefs with in the past.

I split scn in 1983, never looked back, and only started looking at the scn blogs after watching Going Clear. I wonder how long it will take for my brain to get cooked if I keep reading. They do say seniors should keep an active mind so I’ll hope for the best. Scientology is sticky.

  28. Ditto. That is a wise and helpful comment, Windhorse. The real task in living a human lifetime is to achieve whatever understanding we can.

Those people who completely reject scientology or any other spiritual subject are fine. But they need to be explicit about what they are replacing it with – nihilism, materialism, Marxism, Pokemon, or what.

  29. But Richard, I do agree with you about “true believers”. Surveys apparently show that die-hard Trump voters have no doubts about him, no matter what negative information is shown them about him. about him. Believers are believers, period. In fact, for Christians an Muslims, to belief in spite of any illogic or factual contradictions, is considered a virtue and the way to get to Heaven. One is encouraged to “believe” in spite of every evidence to the contrary.

  30. Was this post somehow hacked into the comments? Grasshopper says he didn’t make it, and the previous duplicate posting of it is under the moniker of a blog that apparently doesn’t exist.

  31. Valkov, I wrote the following reply to your comment to Grasshopper, but Mike moderated it out:

Right, and it’s the subject Marty has been talking about in some of the videos. So I think it may have been his “reply” to Grasshopper, who says (in the comment above) “My text was about how I was on to them, and that Marty is not running the blog anymore.” Marty may even have thought that someone was using Grasshopper’s moniker!

The other poster who got that same replacement to his post was webber517gdw. On Mike’s thread “OMFG”, he wrote the following and some additional comments below it:

“I am webber517gdw and I left a message on Marty rathburn site that asked Marty if he liked sucking Dave’s dick and he completely changed my message.” http://www.mikerindersblog.org/omfg/#comment-179559

  34. Yep. Ever see those posts from Occupy Democrats? Some of them have no news or information in them, only ad hom and spin.
