As most of you know the annual Indies (Independent Scientologists) Day celebration is this coming Saturday and Sunday in Minnesota. Stayed tuned here over the next few days for Independence news that will herald a trend that ushers in the end of the tyranny Indies have made such great sacrifices to effectuate. While they certainly won’t grab the media attention that Miscavige’s latest public relations coup has, Katies Holmes Breaks Miscavige Shackles, the long-term effects of coming events will do more to loosen the tyrant’s grip on the free practice of Scientology than just about any events to date.
Those attending the Indies Day celebration will witness and participate in history making. Remember, as you watch and participate, that these events were made possible by all you have done to date. Keep in mind also that it will require unity of purpose and vigilance to overcome the reciprocal the tyranny has already begun to mount in response to the developments to which I allude.
I leave you with a quote from the forgotten US founding father, Thomas Paine, the most important US founder in my opinion – also in the opinion of 2nd US President John Adams by the way. It is something that all Indies, Americans and world citizens should take to heart in these times:

I’ve just saw and read much to many reports from longtime, veteran, highest qualified, trained and supportive good people, which were thrown under the bus and wasted by the current management lead by David Miscavidge. Most of the time because they’ve tried to exercise their inalienable and God given rights for self-determinism and to think and talk freely. All those Names you can find on Marty´s and Steve Halls Blog.
Furthermore, I want to let you know, I do not leave the faith, the applied religion philosophy of Scientology and will and I´m continuing on my spiritual journey.
I am and will remain a Scientologist, an independent Scientologiest, and will use the wisdom for myself and those who ask for it.
My Philosophy, by L. Ron Hubbard:
”For I know no man who has any monopoly upon the wisdom of this universe. It belongs to those who can use it to help themselves and others.“
Than my purpose is also to help with that:
1. L. Ron Hubbard’s legacy shall be resurrected

Happy 4th of July. Have a great celebration in Minnesota. Hundred may physically be there but tens of thousands will be there in spirit. The ranks of the Independents continue to swell. Scientology, its theory and practice, will survive. DM should never have hit marty’s friend. Interesting how that last straw has led us to this point. A lot of good folks are standing tall.

Hark! Is that the distant sound of a victory roll I hear?
I was watching a documentary about Bomber Command last night. It was very sobering. Young men (18 – 22 mostly) going out night after night knowing they only had about a 80% chance of coming back alive on any given night, and a 50% chance of surviving over the duration of the campaign (years 1942 – 1945). The Halifax and Lancaster bombers they flew were the air equivalent of Ford Transits; slow, easy to spot and perilous. They were sitting ducks for the Luftwaffe and they knew it. They also knew they didn’t have the “glamour” of Fighter Command who saved Britain from certain German invasion in 1940. There would be no ticker tape parades for them or lofty speeches from Prime Ministers. Indeed after the war they were more or less shunned and ignored by the good and the great until this very year when finally there has been a memorial erected for them in Green Park this week (hence the timing of the docu.).
We don’t have to literally put our lives on the line – usually, and when I feel like patting myself on the back for leaving the cult and confronting its psychosis head on it’s a useful reminder of what real courage is, and what sacrifices others have made like this.
Not to say that those who have taken the step despite great personal danger (such as losing family members) is not heroic in its own right though. The fight against evil takes many forms, and this is just another battle which seems mercifully to be drawing to a close.

Happy Independece Day everybody. I will not be there for obvious reasons, but I wish a year of freedom to all independents, as well as everybody else.
Speaking of everybody else, I am into chapter 15 of the book where you write about the goodness of people. As I was reading it, I was reminded of an incident that happened to me. In one of my travels I stopped at an inn only to find out it was a biker’s hangout.
I was sitting at the bar when in walks this big burly biker. He looked ANGRY. He sat next to me and everybody cowered. I asked him in a concerned voice: “are you okay?”
To my surprise, he started crying. He just came from the dentist and was in terrible pain. I conversed with him for a while and he got better. As I was eating my food some guy started talking derogatorily about blacks. To my surprise, the bar man asked him to leave, and as he was leaving he was ridiculed by the crowd (including myself).
I think you are absolutely right. Kindness can be found everywhere, not only in Scientology.

Getting standard auditing outside of the toxic RCS environment is like the difference of sailing in smooth waters vs stormy ones, so much progress is being made. Wow, we’ve come so far in such a relatively short time. It’s amazing! To think of all the fantastic things that have happened since that profound document – the Declaration of Independence – was signed 236 years ago is mind-boggling.
It’s even more amazing to see the positive changes that have occurred in the few short years since the advent of Independent Scientology. Like the signers of that historic declaration, Scientlogists from around the world are declaring their Independence from the enforced allegiance and oppressive control of David Miscavige’s Church of Scientology.
Karry and I are so glad to have reconnected with our true group. The future is once again wide open and the promise of freedom is renewed in our hearts.
And in that spirit on this 4th of July, I’d like to thank Marty Rathbun – who like the signers of America’s Declaration of Independence, has been a tireless advocate for freedom and a true catalyst for positive change in the world.
Thank you Marty, for setting an example and inspiring Scientologists the world over to “mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor”.

The apostate label is like the cult label, it has slippery inflections that technically logically lead to its use making no sense.
I guess you would also take issue with my label of official Scientology, since technically current official Scientology is so off the Hubbard rails it doesn’t deserve “official.”
But corporate Scientology isn’t correct technically either, since LRH did authorize and later promoted and agree with all the religious corporations setups. The negative inflection “corporate Scientology” backhand label isn’t a good label, because LRH left the movement in a corporate setup and THAT is his wishes, and that fact seeps into the minds of those that know this, and hear the negative “corporate Scientology” label’s use.
Not to argue, but better to enjoy this day off.
I like “official Scientology” since I believe longer range, it will inevitably evolve out of its baddest ways. (I err in dreaming about the long future of inevitable reform of official Scientology and DM’s leaving the stage isn’t going to collapse all the rest that LRH has put there with his extensive admin writings.)
Great post, Martin, one of the best ever in my opinion. And so very appropriate on this 4th of July. It is an excellent reminder of how valuable the freedom is that we enjoy and celebrate, and of the very real sacrifices both known and unknown that have been made over the centuries to achieve and protect it.

Hell just froze over….. Fox News just ran a segment on Cruise/Holmes and Scientology. Never thought I would see that…
This leads to a bigger discussion, but I almost don’t want to influence it.
Viewpoint PL is what is branded in my brain when I use labels I use in describing Scientology to other people.
To me what LRH wrote that makes Scientology, all of it, what it is, is the bottom line what people in future generations will HAVE to use at the primary stable data of what to call and label what, of the major themes in this subject, Scientology.
Hubbard’s writings disses all the splinter groups, bar none, and he’s consistent.
The current derogatory term used by Scientology incorporated is “apostate” to demean anyone NOT in good graces and sticking to the current Scientology command intention. That’s backed up by Hubbard, despite the fact that us ex members know that Hubbard’s rules also should have been employed to long ago root out Miscavige from his Napoleon persch (Pope on a Box, whatever).
Even the new religion scholars are now wised up with Scientology’s propaganda, so you’ve won your case, that battle’s won.
But the new religion scholars think of the gotbucks Scientology movement officially as the incorporated network of Scientology churches, missions, etc.
Freezone and Indepenent Scientologists while they might have more of the heart and soul goodness (but I allow good intentions for those still official Scientology), and maybe, you are thinking that official Scientology’s gonna splatter and fall apart, but what if it doesn’t.
And what is official Scientology anyways.
It’s what LRH wrote.
That’s my viewpoint.
I think in the end of the day it will be LRH’s conclusions about how to keep the Bridge there and available versus the older religion’s various tactics to keep themselves going generation after generation.
LRH gave a long term thought, and he put all his thought into it.
Whether he’s right or now, I think is an important discussion, and I think those that exit the top admin ranks where the strategic level decisions about which “sector” to focus on (the celebrity sector is DM’s hobbyhorse, or was for a while), is important to think about.
The WDC and Exec Strata were to be manned up with long term thinkers, with people who knew the whole Hubbard admin scriptures lineup of options.
I think because people got a chance, especially Exec Strata staffers, and to me it’s a 10-20 year learning curve to even getting up to being capable of making really strategic decades positive decisions.
Example, when someone finally chooses to end the overzealous disconnection option, will be ONE major good turning point in future official Scientology history.
Example, when someone in top ranks Scientology finally ceases using all of the offensive Guardian’s Office and earlier Hubbard ordered tactics to counterattack enemies, that will also be a major turning point.
Having read so much of LRH’s admin writings, and his final years private writings, to ASI, to Int, and having taken seriously, and wondering how it long range would all turn out, I’m inevitably driven back to LRH’s last public LRH ED wishes.
The core of Scientology is the Bridge, and the admin stuff is just to keep the Bridge there.
The latest freezone convention members were even wondering how to long range maybe organize so they’ll continue the tech.
Max is just going ahead, he’s setting up his Ron’s Org new building in Switzerland, which seems a long range plan worthy of continuing to watch.
It is always a much longer range endeavor, these religion endeavors.

Indeed, the future of our priceless religious technology has been assured because of the hard work, sacrifice, and great risks taken by those pioneer Independents who came before us. They blazed a trail out of the degradation and darkness of an organization gone mad, and carried our precious technology into the bright light of freedom.
They stood tall in that light, and defiantly told the truth about the organization to all who would listen. In so doing, they showed others the way back to sanity, real brotherhood, and truth. I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me, my family and friends, and for all humanity. They have quite literally saved the Route Out for us all.
The parallels between their deeds, and those of America’s Founding Generation, are many, and are very appropriate. In decades and centuries to come, their names will be as familiar to the multitudes, as those great men we remember this Independence Day.

I did my stint in the US Army as a young man, not wholly unlike the SO or LRH Green on White (comparisons are profound if one cares to look into it)… except perhaps for the level of punishment.
Even the United States military grunt (infantry) training, as tough and tumble as it is, and believe me some of that training is a living hell, would never dole out such egregious and continual life (personality) usurping punishment as the SO head puppets via the Midget’s SOP can inflict.

THE STATE OF CLEAR ACHIEVED
Through some amazing auditing and persistence, I’ve finally achieved THE STATE OF CLEAR. To finally have acknowledgement of this state is very special. When it happened, it literally “popped.” At first, I was reluctant to let it happen–but I let that go and POP! I’m excited to see what I can create now in my universe! With no need for the creation of the bank I really feel like I am myself again, and I can handle what comes my way. My ears are still humming (in a good way)! There is clarity of thought and a great peace of mind. Thanks to LEC: Les, for the perfect auditing for me; Anita, perfect support and encouragement; Frankie, my perfect C/S. Teamwork definitely got me this far! And LRH! BP

It’s July 4th (how apropos) and moments ago I finished reading your new book. I basically read it in one sitting; couldn’t put it down.
What I took away from your writing was a profound sense of rehabilitation of my gains from my past auditing and study. Then again I experienced those ‘aha!’ moments, too. Not only do you clarify what is wrong with Scientology (Inc. think) but you deftly point out what is truly right and good about the subject as well. Thank you!

The Hollywood Reporter interview was great. After reading it, I’ve concluded Tom can’t win this.
Here’s why: if Katie loses Suri to Tom, it won’t be the end of things, it’ll be the beginning.
Nicole was seen as “Tom’s Australian wife”, and little was know about the children. The public wasn’t invested. But Katie is adored from her time on “Dawson’s Creek”. Suri is recognizable the world over. The public is very interested and invested.
Should Tom become the decision-maker, the press will continue to follow what happens to Suri, and continue to investigate Scientology, and you all will be fighting for her too (I think?). Tom can’t win this…no matter what happens in court.

Under the radar but today I threw out 3 bags of promo and Videos. It would really mystify an outsider that one in ‘the church’ is not even allowed to NOT keep so much promo. It was use to be a crime for me to toss out almost anything.that was forced on us at all events.

I stopped by the local cafe in my neighborhood Tuesday. An older couple I’ve become fond of were there having their usual early dinner about 4 pm. While we were chatting the ‘Cruise/Holmes news’ flashed on the big screen TV. Shirley then told the story to us patrons that she went to high school with Katie’s grandfather, dated him back in the day and moved on but kept in touch and this year are jointly organizing their 60th high school reunion this August in Toledo, Ohio. They were and are still close friends.
I’ll cut to the quick: Fritzy (Katie’s grandpa) told her that it became clear within the family that TC was gay and controlled by the ‘cult’ Shirley was emphatic that the entire family was circling the wagon to protect her and her daughter.
Shirley and her husband Jim’s story of their experiences of having a vacation condo on Clearwater Beach near Flag would necessitate another posting, however it jives with the observations of the “Inc. Think” ™ we’ve all observed.
It’s really a small world after all.

I dunno. Either one gets the grade, the level, the EP, or not. And plain old thetan talks about it on his website/blog, that would be David Lawrence. But when I researched somewhere I remember reading somebodies account, the somebodies viewpoint on when the attestation line started. Circa the 1967 or so. And at that point the gains were the responsibility of the pc as opposed to the church.

Interesting comment by Gary (Lurch) Soter in the Hollywood Reporter article:
Soter responded: “The Church doesn’t comment on any individual parishioner or his or her spiritual journey. This is a private matter and it is inappropriate for comment. The Church has respected and will continue to respect the privacy of both parties during this difficult period.”
What he should have said was: “the Church happily and routinely comments on the spiritual journey of anyone they consider isn’t kowtowing to Miscavige, including taking information out of their pc folders, but if its someone we don’t want to talk about we say we never comment.”
Soter has become Miscavige’s new sockpuppet. Tommy bit the dust. Apparently Monique isnt doing the media thing any more, so its down to Lurch. And he just says what is dictated to him by POB.
Another of his humorous comments was “All of these people are ex-communicated self-promoters who are sadly exploiting a private family matter for their own personal financial gain.” (referring to Marty, me, Karen #1, Marc Headley, Amy Scobee and Jenna Miscavige). Another line straight from the mouth shaking dictaphone of Miscavige — he knows the highest motivation in his universe is money, so therefore everyone must think like him. I am sure the reporter included this statement because it made him look like the fool he is — she knows she didn’t pay anyone and she reached out for comment. Nobody is around pimping themselves or others to the media — though you can bet POB will be back to his pimping ways real soon, if he hasn’t already fired Mission Pimp II to find Mrs. Cruise IV (to keep up with the Mission Impossible franchise).

Marty, just finished your book. Hard for me to find the right words to express how I feel about it. It’s a beautiful book. It’s a compassionate book which deals with improving the human condition and it deals with increasing knowledge and enlightenment as a CONTINUAL activity (and a joyous one too). It’s about taking the limits off of one’s potential for thinking and knowledge (and we should not AGEE to any limits). It’s also about increasing one’s freedom. It’s a provacative book too; that is to say, it provoked me to think in ways I hadn’t just a few days before. And things are “still happening for me” – I’m not even close to being done with the EXPERIENCE of receiving your communication. In other words, you done good. Of course I don’t want to give you any type of FINAL acknowledgement, as I want more, so I’ll just say thank you again and “OK. Continue.”

Now try getting a bank account, job, hospital visit, cell phone, credit card, brokerage account, insurance policy, utilities, phones, etc. without a socialist slavestate number. Then attempt to assert your common law right to travel behind the wheel without plates, registration, insurance, a license, etc. Then go to the airport and attempt to purchase an airplane ticket with cash. Odds are you won’t make it as far as the TSA-hole grope down artists, you will be rounded up and interrogated about where you got the cash and are you a drug dealer. (It’s only ok to be a drug dealer if you are an Eli Lilly certified Prozac pusher.)
Yup, independence. Good thing we fought the British and won that. Who knows … if we didn’t fight or if we lost, we might all be saddled with paying income taxes, sales taxes on everything, being told what we can eat, drink, grow in our own garden, or smoke, groped for our own safety, and/or forced into a government run healthcare plan. By your own admission, you worked in this organization doing very ugly work for many years, believing in what you were doing. From what I have read, you decided to leave when DM sent you to the ‘Hole’. I presume he was deliberately edging you out, maybe planning on sending you to one of the remote bases they maintain. Maybe for ‘re-education’ or ‘ethics training’? Any high ranking executive in any large corporation would be outraged and embittered to find themselves marginalized in this way.
Many years ago when I was aged about 20 ( I am now 39) I was invited by a young person on the street to have a free IQ test. I subsequently spent an hour at a Scientology center. I was repulsed and offended by the entire experienced. I had never heard of Scientology, but after going through an introductory audit and then being sent to meet with a senior manager I saw that their methods to draw me in were transparent and highly unethical. The senior manager who examined the results of my ‘personality test’ (no IQ test was forthcoming, no matter how persistent I was in requesting it), was very aggressive in her attempt to demoralize me. Her aim was to make me feel like complete failure. She advised me that my life was in an appalling state and I was urgently in need of Scientology. Clearly, Scientology was the adult and I was a child, a bad, stupid, failure of a child. She told me that I needed to purchase LRH’s books immediately. When I told her that I could not afford them at that time she disgustedly interrogated me on my financial situation. I was an unemployed full time student doing very well at university but I did not feel that need to advise her of my academic success. Right from the beginning, when I stood on the street and agreed to take the fictional IQ test, the evasive, unintelligent noises made by the low ranking recruiter sent a clear message that this would be a regrettable experience. I was bemused by the pseudo scientific demonstration with the E meter. The aggressive treatment by the senior manager was enough proof that this was first and foremost a business enterprise and a completely unethical organization. Fascism, Communism, religious cults all employ the same manipulative and controlling devices. I never forgot this experience, such was my disgust. My recent reading of LRH’s work has not improved my impression. I am especially amused by his creative use of language in creating obfuscating and officious terminology, and using it as an authoritative and controlling tool. ‘Ethics’ is one of the more blatant misuses.
By the way, today I am not a Scientologist, have never been a Scientologist, and yet I have lived a beautiful life thus far, and a spiritual life. Scientology would have fed off my resourcefulness, intelligence, creativity, passion and success like a parasite and diminished me. And no, that is not my name and email address below. I would never expose myself to someone like yourself, who claims to have been exploited by the very same machine that he helped create.
