More Miscavige on Internet – Stopping Scientology

Some who have not experienced it may have trouble believing it, but I am sure those who have experienced it will confirm my interpretation of what follows.  Here’s an order from David Miscavige’s office to ED Int (Executive Director International) and Exec Ints (whatever members of ED Int’s team who had the misfortune of listening to the rant live).  The order is excerpted, as is Miscavige’s standard operating procedure, from an audio tape that records every insanity that issues from his mouth morning, noon and night while he stomps around the International headquarters of Scientology Inc.  ED Int and his Exec Ints then must report written compliance, with evidence, to the order so issued.   On average, ED Int  receives dozens of such orders on any given day – as do many others.  When Miscavige refers to the ED Int thinking  ‘And then it becomes, “oh, you’re stopping it”’ Miscavige – the perceptive one he is – is accurately reporting on exactly what ED INT and the Exec Ints were thinking at that very moment.  He knows that because it is a daily recurring thought of all members of Scientology Inc international management.  They think it because this order here represents Miscavige’s daily op.  He bats back violently at anything that is originated to him – including compliance to the insane orders he issues and even the programs that attempt to execute his dictates.

The net result is, everything he tells anyone to do never gets done because Miscavige won’t ever approve the program that is proposed to get done what he has ordered to get done.  It is a vicious cycle.  It is like the movie Groundhogs Day played over and over and over,  day in and day out, year after year at Miscavige’s cult camp.  Except his version of Groundhogs Day is not a comedy, it is the most gruesome horror picture imaginable.  Miscavige very often tells International staff members and execs “oh, and you are thinking COB is stopping this” (after he sits on a submission for several months, then verbally lambasts the submitter with some incomprehensible cross order of himself) I suppose in order to make the person feel guilty and wrong and ultimately  stupid for perceiving the truth. More accurately, the op Miscavige runs day in an day out is making people believe they are incapable of understanding that which is incomprehensible (his orders) in the first place.  L. Ron Hubbard described the op in the lecture The Freedoms  of Clear, 4 July, 1958:

“You know how people convince people they’re ignorant?  They take something which cannot be understood and they say, ‘You stupid jerk. Why don’t you understand this…’

“…Don’t ever make the mistake of believing that you are ignorant simply because you do not understand the incomprehensible.  Because that’s the oldest trick in the universe.”

RE: SH SIZE ORGS & 339R

And on Marketing, they keep coming up with a million other things, because the guy doesn’t understand it.  It’s, get the Internet done, goes out and talk to Sky Dayton, comes up with a bunch of ideas, “yeah, we’ll send it out to the org.  Hey, any dissemination is better than none.”  No it’s not.  How many more people am I willing to blow out of Scientology.  And by the way, put that aside, why didn’t he program it in and do any part of his job?  Tell the org staff, “Here’s how you answer.”  Get out a basic program on this?  Why not?  Why put it out without that?  Oh, I wanted to wait 3 years to get out his program and they’re just going to get a computer manual.  And then it becomes, “oh, you’re stopping it.”  No actually, I’m the one who’s been pounding to get it done and get a standard line in.  So what were we about to put out?  [CallInExecInt: A line that’s not complete.]  You don’t get it yet.  Your respect for org policy and what happens down there is not accurate or you would literally feel your stomach twisting right now. And to you, it’s glib.  You don’t really live and breathe this purpose and know what’s happening.  You should though.

Our things are supposed to forward it.  And the reason it doesn’t make sense, because you don’t know what the basic purpose is.  You go, “Hey, I know how to forward that great idea.  I know how to really get that book line in.”  What do I get from Marketing?  “Yeah, we’ve got an Internet there on Scientology on-line, we’ll have a way where they can log in and we can 8C them through the books.”  Now, I haven’t seen the 8C in one of those issues.  In fact, what I’m trying to do is get them to want them.  What did it turn into instead?  “8C them.”

The only place that thinks they need 8C is here.  I plan on getting people and saying, there it is and they go, “whoa, I want it.”  But nobody there would even push it and 8C them anyway.  You already know that.  That’s what’s so stupid.  Marketing—you’re supposed to create want.

David Miscavige on the Internet and Scientology

Attached is but one of dozens of utterances of David Miscavige that are recorded and  excerpted by his staff and delivered to International Scientology Inc Management as orders on a daily basis.  As we have covered before, Miscavige orders on any given subject never seem to end and more often than not conflict with previous Miscavige orders.  They also more often than not conflict with L. Ron Hubbard policy.  The Miscavige orders take precedence over L. Ron Hubbard policy – and the standing order that all Miscavige orders ,such as the one below, must be word cleared method 9 (a method implanting the message into the head of the reader) by the recipients guarantees that. The net result is nothing gets done – except apparently alteration of L. Ron Hubbard’s words and the six annual events Miscavige lies and preens at.  Wanna know why the church of Scientology will not catch up with the times and make L. Ron Hubbard tech available to the world?   This order from Miscavige will give you some insight.

RE: MARCH 13TH EVENT

Internet:  You didn’t give me a report on what all is going to be on this Internet.  I need to know exactly what it is since I don’t know that you have to launch every single part of it, including the Source Library.  I am curious what’s on there and I really don’t want something on there that’s going to be outdated in short order.  For instance, there are 80 PLs to be fixed.  There are books being corrected.  So preempting all those books by putting all the text on the Internet could really be a disaster.  Further, there’s a bunch of Internet cronies who like taking things out of context and you are going to give them easy picking to be able to do this.  To tell me that they won’t be able to get access to the Internet tells me nothing.  Because I don’t know how a Scientologist is going to get an access to it.  In fact, it seems like the thing should be IAS required membership, which would both help get memberships and would get the correct access.  I don’t know that the plan is on it, which is not unusual.  I had a whole comm cycle with Sky Dayton and did not hear a single word from anybody in Int following that letter which was cc’ed to everybody.

THE FOLLOWING IS  A TRANSLATION FOR THOSE HAVING DIFFICULTY FOLLOWING IT:

TRANSLATION INTERLINEATED IN CAPS BY MARTY

RE: MARCH 13TH EVENT
THE RE LINE MEANS THAT EVEN THOUGH HE IS GIVING LIP SERVICE TO GETTING SOURCE MATERIAL OUT ON THE INTERNET,IT REALLY – AS ALWAYS – IS ABOUT THE EVENT – WHAT AM I GOING TO LIE TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT THIS TIME?
Internet: You didn’t give me a report on what all is going to be on this Internet.
THIS IS PURELY ASS COVERING. HE HAS ALREADY DICTATED EXACTLY WHAT IS TO BE DONE ON “THIS INTERNET” PROJECT TO USE AT THE EVENT. AND THEY HAVE REPORTED BACK COMPLIANCE THAT THE DRONES HAVE BEEN PUTTING IT TOGETHER AROUND THE CLOCK.
I need to know exactly what it is since I don’t know that you have to launch every single part of it, including the Source Library.
THIS IS ASS COVERING TO INFER THAT HE DIDN’T ORDER IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, SO HE CAN BEAT, PUNCH, SLAP AND KICK SOME ‘KNUCKLEHEAD’ IN THE FUTURE IF IT FLAPS.
I am curious what’s on there and I really don’t want something on there that’s going to be outdated in short order. For instance, there are 80 PLs to be fixed.
I AM STILL FINE TUNING MY COVERT EDITS OF L RON HUBBARD TO FIT MY PREDECLICTIONS.
There are books being corrected.
BECAUSE L RON HUBBARD WAS SO UNLCEAR ABOUT THINGS, I AM SADDLED WITH CORRETING HIM.
So preempting all those books by putting all the text on the Internet could really be a disaster.
MORE ASS COVERING, I DON’T WANT SOURCE GETTING OUT TO ANYBODY, AND HERE IS MY LATEST JUSTIFICATION – I MIGHT CHANGE IT.
Further, there’s a bunch of Internet cronies (HE CONSIDERS ANYONE ON THE NET WHO CRITICIZES HIM AS PART OF SOME CREW OF DO NOTHINGS WHO LIVE BEHIND COMPUTERS – “CRONIES” IS JUST A PLAIN MISUSE OF THE WORD.)
who like taking things out of context and you are going to give them easy picking to be able to do this. YOU CAN’T POSSIBLY PUT SOURCE ON THE INTERNET – HUBBARD IS SO EASY TO MAKE FUN OF (AGAIN ASS COVERING FOR ” THE HELL WITH GETTING LRH TECH OUT AND AVAILABLE”
To tell me that they won’t be able to get access to the Internet tells me nothing. Because I don’t know how a Scientologist is going to get an access to it.
WE ONLY WANT CARD CARRYING ROBOTS TO HAVE ACCESSS TO LRH.
In fact, it seems like the thing should be IAS required membership, which would both help get memberships and would get the correct access.
BUT, ME BEING THE ONLY GUY WHO BRINGS MONEY IN AROUND HERE, YET AGAIN HAS COME UP WITH A BRIGHT IDEA. HOLD ACCESS TO SOURCE AND ONLY DISPENSE – NOT JUST FOR THE COST OF PUTTING IT THERE, AND A LITTLE PROFIT – NO, LET’S MAKE PEOPLE PAY ABSURD AMOUNTS LIKE PATRON GLITTERING FAIRY WITH ANGEL DUSTED TONGUES STATUS AT, SAY, A COUPLE MILL A POP.
I don’t know that the plan is on it, which is not unusual.
OF COURSE NOT, IT WAS MY PLAN IN THE FIRST PLACE AND I HAVE CROSS ORDERED AND ALTER IT SO MANY TIMES,I CAN’T KEEP TRACK OF MYSELF.
I had a whole comm cycle with Sky Dayton and did not hear a single word from anybody in Int following that letter which was cc’ed to everybody.
SKY DAYTON PROTESTED THAT THE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY BECOMING SYNONYMOUS IN THE PUBLIC MIND WITH SUPPRESSION OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION THROUGH THE NET WAS NOT ONLY RUINING HIS OWN REPUTATION, IT WAS DESTROYING SCIENTOLOGY. OF COURSE, I BLAMED IT ALL ON YOUR IDIOTS AND TOLD HIM I WAS ALL FOR FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND GETTING LRH OUT. I WROTE HIM A FLOWERY LETTER SAYING AS MUCH. I COPIED YOU ON IT – EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOTHING BUT MEANINGLESS PLATITUDES STROKING THE GUY (BECAUSE I AM THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO CAN STROKE WORTH A DAMN – VIOLENTLY OR LOVINGLY) – SO THAT I COULD AGAIN BLAME MY PRE-HISTORIC AND MEDEIVAL IDEAS ABOUT COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES ON YOU SORRY SAPS.

What Is Wrong With Corporate Scientology?

For starters, from L Ron Hubbard 6 July 1958:

We have found that staff requires this prerequisite: a good Scientologist.

A long time ago they used to tell us what we needed was a good businessman. We’ve had good businessmen, and we fired them.  What they used to tell us was, what we needed was a good publicity man that was really trained in publicity.  And we’ve had them and they laid an egg, and we fired them.

And every once in a while we have had to fill a post with somebody who was not quite up to handling that post, and we missed.  And we finally found what the common denominator was of an individual who could handle the post in an organization or any post in the organization.  And that person was – the common denominator is – a good auditor.  If a person is not a good auditor, there will be something wrong with his organizational activities.

Boy, that is something to remember…

There are people around that believe that a Scientologist – a Scientologist is somebody exclusively who audits people professionally.  There are a lot of Scientologists who do this.  But that is not everything one does.  Let me tell you that on staff, as sharp as we are about this sort of thing, we find that a person who is not a good auditor (that’s not a good Scientologist) — a good auditor, who can sit down there and turn out an excellent session, who can get good results on a preclear, is the only person we really like to have on staff because they always do a good job.  They always have the ability to understand the problems of those around them, and they have the ability of handling a situation.

Anatoly Sharansky’s Final Statement

The following might resonate with some who have experienced the corporate Scientology culture of David Miscavige.

Anatoly Sharansky’s Final Statement in the Soviet Court
presented before being sentenced on trumped-up charges for treason and espionage, July 14, 1978

(Sharansky addressed his first remarks to those who were not in the courtroom, his wife Avital who emigrated to Israel and the Jewish people):

“During my interrogation the chief investigators threatened me that I might be executed by a firing squad, or imprisoned for at least fifteen years.  But if I agreed to cooperate with the investigation for the purpose of destroying the Jewish emigration movement, they promised me freedom and a quick reunion with my wife.

“Five years ago, I submitted my application for exit to Israel. Now I am further than ever from my dream.  It would seem to be cause for regret.  But it is absolutely the other way around.  I am happy.  I am happy that I lived honorably, at peace with my conscience.  I never compromised my soul, even under the threat of death.

“I am happy that I helped people.  I am proud that I knew and worked with such honorable, brave and courageous people as Sakharov, Orlov, Ginzburg, who are carrying on the traditions of the Russian intelligentsia in defending human rights in the Soviet Union.  I am fortunate to have been witness to the process of the liberation of Jews of the USSR.

“I hope that the absurd accusation against me and the entire Jewish emigration movement will not hinder the liberation of my people.  My near ones and friends know how I wanted to exchange activity in the emigration movement for a life with my wife Avital, in Israel.

“For more than two thousand years the Jewish people, my people, have been dispersed.  But wherever they are, wherever Jews are found, every year they have repeated: ‘Next year in Jerusalem.‘  Now, when I am further than ever from my people, from Avital, facing many arduous years of imprisonment, I say, turning to my people, my Avital,  ‘Next year in Jerusalem.’

“Now I turn to you, the court, who were required to confirm a predetermined sentence: To you I have nothing to say.”

Scientology Inc v Cook – Textbook Backfire

The San Antonio Express News summed up Miscavige’s Texas folly better than any other news service to date when it characterized it as follows:

But the suit became almost a textbook example on how litigation can sometimes backfire after Cook was called to the witness stand for a pre-trial injunction hearing in February and, with a courtroom full of reporters, outlined under oath a history of alleged oddities and abuses by the organization.

See the entire story here: San Antonio Express News

Even if Miscavige’s latest Big Lie were true (that Scientology Inc paid out nothing) and Debbie wound up paying nothing for having spoken out – then testified for good measure – for the world to hear after receiving 100 thousand dollars not to, what kind of product is this?  What kind of product is this for the millions of church of Scientology parishioner dollars expended on this fiasco?

Massive, Straight Up and Vertical International Expansion – Really Dave?

By Mike Rinder

There have been many posts and numerous comments on this blog mocking the overhyped “expansion news” that Miscavige feeds his captive audience of clubbed seals at events.  They are well trained to applaud every time there is a loud explosion and a line bursts through the top right corner of a graphic on screen. No other stimulus is required:  disbelief is suspended and all critical thinking is cast aside. He tosses out stinking fish and the seals don’t even stop to chew – they swallow it whole and with relish.

Of late, in response to exposing the truth about the sham campaigns (“give us money so we can air ads all over the world” and none are ever seen by anyone except maybe on the Home Shopping Network at 4am), Miscavige bit the bullet and started shelling out for ads to appear on mainstream, high profile TV shows in the US.  Of course, he can’t say something different in these ads to what he says at his events, hence they tout:  “growing faster today than anytime in history”,   “more than 10,000 churches, missions and groups”, “welcoming over 4.4 million new people each year” and “grassroots groups starting every 24 hours.” Unfortunately, no matter how untrue or misleading these statements are, Miscavige knows no regulatory entity is going to bother taking the church to task for false advertising.

But , as anyone who has been to an org in the last 20 years knows, in the real world you cannot see any of this massive international expansion other than empty bricks and mortar, purchased with the blood extracted from the clubbed seals .

Even worse is the Mission network.  If this massive international expansion were to be evident anywhere, it would surely be at the entrance to the Bridge. Maybe it takes a while for everyone to flow up the Bridge to the orgs… (especially if the Bridge itself is blocked with Basics, 3 swing FNs, arbitrary blanket objectives etc etc), but it is not an unreasonable assumption to expect to see straight up vertical soaring to the heavens expansion with Missions springing up all over, flourishing and prospering.  Wow, you might even expect to see things approaching the days of missions with hundreds of staff and huge course rooms and HGCs (think Riverside in its heyday).  They don’t even have the “Ideal Mission” program rolling – JT paid for ONE in Ocala FL (it’s completely empty, Christie and I were the ONLY people in there on a Saturday afternoon other than the Hungarian receptionist who had been brought into the country at the invitation of Scientology friends).

There is another datum that Miscavige has driven home – “you are known by your nearest delivery org.” He hammered this in on the FSO – forcing them to “be responsible for” Tampa org.  This is how he got the money to buy the original Tampa buildings and now defunct test centers.  From FSO public.  He turned  CMO CW into the “management” of Tampa.  SO staff were sent to Tampa to fill posts.  FSO public were press ganged into joining staff there or sending their children to join (“It’s command intention”).   Local FSO public were put on course and into the HGC.  And it became the dumping ground for FSO reject public.  The FSO was NEVER intended to be a management org for Tampa. That is CLO EUS’s job.  But it didn’t matter to Master Manager Miscavige.  He has done the same with organizations around the world – somehow AOSHUK is responsible for London (though Brighton is closer…) etc etc.  Wherever its convenient to make others wrong, he jumps at it.

Ok Master Manager Miscavige – how do you explain this? The “Redlands Mission.” Redlands Mission RIP

Come on Dave, don’t be shy — this is (was) the closest Mission to RTC Headquarters. This is the closest Scientology delivery to your $70 million palace.

This is your massive straight up and vertical booming international expansion?

Maybe it just hasn’t osmosed from your home in neighboring Riverside County into San Bernardino County yet? Or from neighboring LA County for that matter? Maybe they don’t get TV there in San Bernardino?  Maybe they are just out of step with the rest of the world?  Maybe none of the 10 million Scientologists are in San Bernardino County?  Certainly none of the 10,000 Orgs and Missions are…. Perhaps the 2 million residents of San Bernardino are just not part of the 12,054 new people flooding into Scientology every day because there is something in their drinking water?

Dave, this building is less than 30 minutes from RTC HQ straight down Highway 10. You pass within a mile of it every time you roll by in your bulletproof armored van, or your BMW, Saleen Mustang, Mazda RX 7, Miata, Landrover Discovery, Ford Expedition, Acura RL or whatever else you have on the West Coast these days.

Dave, how about an explanation for this photo taken just 3 days ago by Sinar Parman?

And if you think they just  moved to “Ideal Mission” (or any) premises, you would be mistaken – they are no longer part of the straight up and vertical world of David Miscavige. They no longer exist.  In fact, the only Dianetics and Scientology in the entirety of San Bernardino County is the CST property at Rim of the World.

Dave, I am sure there is a good explanation and we are just missing it. A small group of apostates has taken over San Bernardino?  We are leaving the clearing of San Bernardino to last because they have been hard to work with on the permits for the fences at CST? Marty Rathbun infiltrated the Mission and they became squirrel?

But wait, maybe that is really unfair. Maybe we should only be talking about Dave’s closest org? Unfortunately for you Dave, its Orange County.

Check the state of Orange County Org out here.

Now, that promo piece is sort of like the Tel Aviv org video. Makes you think that the building is really done.  All nicely lit up and looking slick.

But the OC Weekly followed up with this, including some very relevant information from Luis Garcia.

And here is an even more recent shot (this week) of that very same building your promo piece showed lit up and open:

Real state of OC org

Dave, do we have another anomaly in the big picture of massive, straight up and vertical international expansion? Perhaps its really rocking and rolling everywhere except Orange County (and San Bernardino County, and Santa Barbara county and San Diego County… )?  Funny, OC used to be a large org and things were rocking and rolling. Back when they delivered Dianetics and Scientology rather than just being a roosting house for IAS and Idle Org vultures.  There has got to be some explanation for this very public failure in the center of “the largest concentration of Scientologists on the planet.”  Surely you can explain this Dave?

Your closest org AND closest Mission are falling behind, or have dropped out altogether, in the straight up and vertical stampede to planetary clearing?

Or maybe, just maybe, you are a bald-faced liar.

Scientology’s Heretic

This weekend’s UK Independent magazine cover story hits kinda close to home.  Warning: contains juvenile descriptions of OT III data.

UPDATE 4/7: GAWKER coverage.

I am informed that Scientology Inc is already spamming the Independent’s site with hate messages, including a full Freedom magazine article, in response.

Never a dull moment.

Mike Rinder exposes David Miscavige and his Scientology Inc torture and re-education camp called ‘the Hole.’   He discusses the mind set of a corporate Scientologist subjected to such treatment.  He touches on other subjects of interest to Independent Scientologists, fence-sitters, and under-the-radar folk.

L Ron Hubbard’s Worst Enemy – Part II

Miscavige: Hubbard’s Worst Enemy Part I

Ortega Calls Bullshit on Miscavige

Here is the promised rundown on Tony Ortega’s report of this year’s annual L Ron Hubbard Birthday Celebration event from Clearwater Florida.

It is just about the thirtieth anniversary of my introduction to the strange case of Gerry Armstrong.   Armstrong was the LRH archivist who left the church in 1981.  That year a tremendous amount of attention had gone onto how the church was promoting L Ron Hubbard to the public.  That was because the church was confronting a) the top eleven officials of the Guardian’s Office (including Hubbard’s wife Mary Sue) were facing lengthy jail sentences, while b) a rash of lawsuits had been filed naming the church as well as L Ron Hubbard as defendants, and c) the central claim of each suit was fraud, more specifically alleging that the church lured them into Scientology based on false claims as to L Ron Hubbard’s super man biography.  Essentially the claim was that if L Ron Hubbard was not an engineer, nuclear physicist, wounded and crippled war hero who was miraculously healed by his own brainchild Dianetics, and he was not the model of perfect virtue since then, why, then they were defrauded into spending money and devoting years to Scientology.

Now, this is a very short-handed summary of a history that was not clear to me for many years after the facts – notwithstanding my personal involvement in some of it – , not even totally clear until very recently.  The whole story will arrive soon enough.

Armstrong pointed out to L Ron Hubbard’s messengers that something had better be done about the representations the church was making. He based that concern on having worked tirelessly to provide David Miscavige’s Special Project (of which I was then the files man for) with material to prove the claims about Hubbard to be true, and coming up empty handed on many counts.  David Miscavige’s handling for Armstrong’s origination was to send Norman F Starkey down to the Commodores Messenger Org International to give Armstrong a Severe Reality Adjustment (SRA – loud verbal brow beating) for being “disaffected.”   Armstrong then blew, with a few boxes of LRH archives with which to defend himself.   In response to being hounded by Miscavige directed PIs for several months, Armstrong reacted by devoting the rest of his life to proving that L Ron Hubbard was a fraud.

As was Miscavige’s habit, he continued to pursue Armstrong as the devil incarnate while at the same time taking Armstrong’s advice, just ignoring the source of it communicating as if it were his own.  No more representations about LRH went out without my authorization – which was backed by an extensive fact-checking process.

We sued Armstrong for theft of the archives documents.  The trial occurred in early 1984.  We had two very competent trial lawyers doing a yeoman-like job putting on the plaintiff’s case for several weeks.  By the time the plaintiff’s case rested I had the unenviable task of informing Miscavige that the attorneys wanted authority to enter settlement negotiations before the defendant’s case was presented.  The attorneys demonstrated that while we could do significant damage to Armstrong’s credibility,  at the end of the day we did not have answers for the far more important and relevant issues – that is, the truth or falsity of representations made by Hubbard and the church about the life of L Ron Hubbard.  What’s more, they explained that by a number of comments by the judge (this was a non-jury trial) it was clear the judge was focusing on that lack of evidence . The attorneys reported that Armstrong’s attorney was amenable to settlement – and that this was a short window of opportunity to protect the image of Hubbard and the church; that once Armstrong’s side had the podium we were in for weeks upon weeks of medieval style Inquisition on L Ron Hubbard (all to be covered by the media).

Miscavige, in his inimitable style, called the attorneys “pussies” (his word) and worse and threatened to fire them if they so much as entertained the thought of “settlement”, let alone mentioned it, again.

The attorneys – and their back up staff – did everything in their power, short of being dragged out of court for defying court orders, to keep a lid on the evidence admitted.  They also did an admirable job of attempting to discredit the witnesses and evidence they entered.

But, in the end their prognosis turned out to be quite conservative.  The judge issued a ruling about Hubbard who of course was not there, finding as a matter of fact that he was a “pathological liar” and “paranoid” and  “schizophrenic.” Not only did L Ron Hubbard’s life history get annihilated by the world wide media – it continued to be for thirty years, with only lame denials in response, as Gerry Armstrong was right all along in this respect: the church had little to no to counter documentation for the claims the church had loudly trumpeted about L Ron Hubbard’s life.  Fact of the matter is, the church’s lack of ability to document many of the claims has been such a given fact that it has bred the type of disbelief expressed by Tony Ortega in his most recent article.   He can’t believe that that church is not only focusing on the claims, but thirty years later they are exaggerating them even more.

Some of the representations covered in this year’s March 13th event – such as the alleged Oregon sub chasing incident was “regarded as among the most regionally famed encounters of the war” – are so easily discredited that those in the know have to wonder: are the people making such representations attempting to set up L Ron Hubbard for a fall?

It gets worse.  The “L Ron Hubbard Biographer” attempts to position LRH as saving the world from “evil” scientists bent on blowing it up.  A five minute google research project (for the culturally or historically illiterate who don’t already know it) would show that those “evil” scientists allegedly plotting to destroy earth were engaged in precisely the opposite activity – they were the original movement to demand “conscience” be incorporated into science because of the destructive power of what they were discovering.

To position Richard Nixon with Robert Oppenheimer and Albert Einstein is about as credible as trying to position Adolph Hitler with leading members of the German underground anti-Nazi movement.

It is pure insanity that is issuing from the lips of Dan Sherman and David Miscavige.  It is madness.  I would write it off as only such if I were not aware of the fact that David Miscavige is acutely aware of who ultimately takes the brunt of this.

What is more a travesty is the overall technique of Sherman and Miscavige.  They are attempting to literalize L Ron Hubbard.  As any intelligent student of Scientology knows, one of Hubbard’s virtues is his story telling ability.  He can lecture for one hour on the subject of a simple principle; and he can tell a number of colorful stories and anecdotes to get the audience to view it from a number of angles to the point where they can understand the principle conceptually.  Of course, we also know that Hubbard has done that literally thousands of times and it was all recorded for posterity. So, Sherman and Miscavige come along – take an anecdote out,  alone, bereft of any context for what principle it is being used to illustrate, and tell the public:

a) Every word is literally true.

b) That “a” is of utmost importance, or why would they be conveying it with such ostentatious implant a/v technology; and thus

c) L Ron Hubbard ought to be viewed and treated like a God, and not as the thinking and living out of the box kind of guy he was, and thus

d) Scientology  is really about belief, and not observation and workability, and thus

e)  David Miscavige must be viewed as the Pope, infallibility and all.

While this madness is clearly intended to up the mushroom treatment (being kept in the dark and being fed manure) of captive cult member audiences – David Miscavige is well aware of what its long term effect will be, more years of dragging L Ron Hubbard through the mud publicly as allegedly making false claims as to his history, qualifications and competence.

I keep asking, and I keep meaning it when I do, how can it get any darker than that?

Miscavige: Hubbard’s Worst Enemy Part I

In late 2003 I came back to the Scientology Inc international headquarters near Hemet California after eighteen consecutive months away on a variety of missions. I have described the experience before as like having returned to the set of Apocalypse Now.  David Miscavige was well on his way toward complete madness.  Already he had all International Scientology Managers engaged in marathon group confession sessions.  Already he was beating people physically almost daily and by then had at least a dozen lower level executives doing the same to their staffs.

Miscavige would go into several hour rambling rants (sort of like Al Capone meets Colonel Kurtz) with all of international management required to sit attentively around a table watching and listening to him.

Re-enactment of arrival – starring Dennis Hopper as Dan Sherman

Don’t get me wrong, a lot times Miscavige’s soliloquies would cover imporant lofty issues like “enthusiasm” and “teamwork”.

Kinda like this.

But, a seed that had been sown years before was beginning to take root in my mind by late 2003.  That was a forbidden thought which began to come off suppress the more violent and insane Miscavige’s suppression became.  That was, after Miscavige had literally accused every executive on the base of “black PRing L Ron Hubbard” (saying or doing something that conveyed the idea that something just wasn’t right with the man), after having offloaded many dozens of staff to gulags for having allegedly committing that crime, after enduring dozens of multiple-hour “conferences” – punctuated with sudden, unexpected violence – where Miscavige rambled on that theme, the truth began to crystallize.

The truth became even more clear when I saw what Miscavige resorted to during his occasional, fleeting moments of fear of losing his terror grip on the group of international managers subjected to his sick fantasy.   When I saw that fear flash for a moment in his eyes, he resorted to words to this effect:

“Yeah, you sit there in your filthy, motivator-infested blackness thinking ‘LRH wasn’t like that’.  I’ve got news.  I am mild compared to L Ron Hubbard.  And if you have a little evil-purpose festering along the lines of ‘I don’t have to take this shit from COB’, think again.  Think this, what is LRH gonna do when he finds out how you’ve been fucking with COB?  Because L Ron Hubbard is coming back sooner than you might think.  And I can guarantee you of one thing, LRH is not going to be nearly as reasonable and merciful as I am.”

At that moment the truth became crystal clear: the fellow who had destroyed the lives and reputations of hundreds by hanging them with the alleged crime of “black PRing LRH”, was engaged in the most effective black PR campaign imaginable against LRH.
