Apropos of the season, a little grown up talk about lessons of Jesus, compassion and sacrifice.
Most of what the world might still consider admirable about the character of Americans was born during the Great Depression: economy, brotherhood, compassion for one’s fellows, sacrifice, alertness and willingness to fight back on principle and not for personal gain.
One major reason why Corporate Scientology is dead is because it condemns those values.
Another reason it is dead is that it long ago sold out utterly to blood-sucking, profiteering corporate America. Every fiber of the organization is geared toward racketeering on bubble-created disposable income.
The only way Scientology will survive what is here and what is coming is through a completely different paradigm than that represented by corporate Scientology. 90% of Americans cannot afford corporate Scientology. Its doors are welded shut to the people the philosophy was created for.
In case anyone hasn’t been watching and studying, the ranks of those with bubble-created disposable income in America is decreasing by the day. And if you’ve really studied world socio-economics you will understand that the days of ‘something-for-nothing prosperity’ are never coming back again. Only the fat criminals who have gamed the United States government into being their enforcement arm will continue to wildly profit.
This is not a political pitch for the right or the left.
The far right is doing everything in its power to turn America into a ghetto to rape and plunder into abject poverty (reference: Griftopia by Mat Tabbai). And their rank and file don’t even understand they are working against their own interests. The far left wants to create a welfare society that chokes the initiative and lifeblood out its people. And their rank and file don’t even see it coming.
In politics, as in religion, philosophy, and life itself the best practice is along the Great Middle Path.
Unfortunately, in times such as these where so many feel the need to cling to extremes (‘desperate times call for desperate measures’), the simple, ethical minority who value integrity, principle, and humanity are labeled by both extremes as the extremists.
I tend to agree with Jesus that in the end the meek shall inherit the earth.
However, I believe it will be the principled, strong who keep them alive to see that day.
In my opinion, the ones who will make a difference in the end are the Tom Joads of the world. Reference: Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.

Moving On Up a Little Higher

I was thinking this morning of the scene from Star Wars when the Chancellor becomes the Emperor, and Amidala says “so this is how democracy ends – with thunderous applause.”
He who was once COB, leading a great enterprise, helping to improve conditions with the aide of competent, trained and rational parishioners is now PoB, dominating a tryrannical movement in its death throes with the mindless following of his clones, er, OT Asses.
Remember applauding for the Golden Age of Knowledge? Or, remember looking around and wondering why the crowd was applauding and figuring that you had better applaud, too? That was when we witnessed the creation of the Evil Empire Corporate $cientology.
George Lucas – who told us about mitochlorian in Star Wars 1 – and wasn’t that interesting to hear said out loud! – predicted the current state of Scientology in his films. Pretty cool how he figured it out back then.

I once told my auditor before one of my last RCS sessions that by decades end all this easy money would be gone and the church would no doubt need to change operating basis’ to earn at current levels. I got the deer in the headlight look.

Personally, I gave up on capitalism more than 20 years ago when I read
“Progress and Poverty” by the great Henry George(1839-18970.
Here is what Albert Einstein said of Mr. George:
” Men like Henry George are rare, unfortunately. One cannot imagine a more beautiful combination of intellectual keenness, artistic form, and fervent love of justice.”
Leo Tolstoy said:
“People do not argue with the teachings of George, they simply do not know it, and it is impossible to do otherwise with his teaching, for he who becomes acquainted with it, cannot but agree.”
Without getting to great detail, Henry George traced the cause of the inequality of wealth distribution to the fundamental imbalance between labor, land ownership, and capital in the production of goods. A careful reading of George predicts the ‘big bang’ which crippled the present economy.
George ran for mayor of New York City but was defeated. The forces of capitalism in the early 20th century were too strong to overcome.
As a practical person, I do investing and play the game because it is one of the few way to survive. In fact, I have made a few trades in the last several weeks which have resulted in positive gain. The fear and greed in the stock market are ever present and result in wide swings.
Joseph Schumpeter in his work “Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy” predicted that in the end capitalism would eat itself and even eat the founders – the middle class. This is the trend in the present economy, and the middle class is now being digested.
My current research is into Buddhist Economics hardly known in the Western World. Capitalism is far too entrenched in the Western mind. Although in decline, capitalism is the only game in town at present.
Mr. Miscavige has no idea that he is following a capitalist system which is in decline. He will decline with it.

I have been intensively studying economics and the world financial system and believe an economic upheaval is coming that will dwarf what happened in 2008, which was only the beginning. I consider it possible that DM is possibly aware of this and it is why he has expanded exponentially the effort to suck every last credit-bubble generated dime out of the parishioners.

Sobering words Marty.
It is difficult sometimes to seperate out the reality of circumstances and keep a level head. The playing field and rules of this global society are decaying at great pace – this is where even the tigers have a tough time. Life is becoming most difficult for the ones that actually do the work upon which the administrators plunder so much.
I had a very interesting insight doing R6EW that seperated out the understanding of dramatization. It may be one to be in a tight situation or have some body illness or complaint, they are unavoidable within the framework of operating amoung the Dynamics – it’s whether you are dramatizing that circumstance is the key to avoiding the solution becoming a problem. Being the problem is not being exterior to it. Take for example the people in RCS, they are dramatizing being Scientologists.
Yes, times are tough but it is being Theta the solver, not Theta the problem is the only path I see worth following.
Exchange in abundance is so easy to engage in for a competent auditor because we have so very much to give. Exchange that keeps the doors open and provides a decent living is a piece of cake when honest help is offered and accepted.
Helping others without an obsession to control their bodies after the help has been delivered allowes for the precious gift of true self-determinism and affords one the luxury of being truly pan-determined over one’s future.
There is so much abundance in the world. One only needs to flow it without avarice to attain a higher lifestyle for oneself and one’s neighbors. It is the can’t have of the impoverished and must-have of the greedy that keeps honest men from attaining the goals of most of us. A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights.

While studying buddhist economics – read “The Diamond Cutter” by Geshe Michael Roach published 2000.
Geshe Roach was sent by his lama out of the monastery to do well IN the business world and told he could not say he was a buddhist nor that the principles he was using were buddhist.
Geshe Roach, an American went into the very closed diamond world (Hasidic Jewish community) of NYC and in fairly short order was making millions.

And what they do is capitalize on weakness, on people goodwill, and just stub them in their back and push them further downhill.
One needs to keep it real, understand and apply everything one has and knows in order to keep on going and helping his/her friends stay afloat.
We have a very powerfull tool at our disposal and If we help one another we will make it.
I have read most of Steinbeck. He is probably my favorite American author. I have been to the Steinbeck museum in Monterey many times as well. East of Eden is my personal favorite and of course The Grapes of Wrath is fantastic. In Dubious Battle is one you may particularly like Marty as well.

Beautiful line about the nature of being, its softness, humbleness, its inherent sweetness.
Corporate Scientology “enlightenment” is so far away from that. Even the poor Class XII’s. They sold their soul’s to a Corporation. Tragic.
For a long time I had tossed around the idea of the meek inherting the earth. It never made sense to me that the timid and spineless would be the benefactors of the strong and ruthless. I really wrestled with this concept until finally I realized that I simply had a misunderstood word. So when I looked up “meek” in a good dictionary like American Heritage, the penny really dropped for me: Definition of Meek: “1. showing patience and humlity; long-suffering.” Those are the people who will inherit the earth.
In a way we have all been trapped into mest by the one-percenters. The “American Dream” became a quest for mest. Those people living in cars and under the overpasses in SoCal are finally free. They can move to where they want to and, though hungry, answer to no one.
While Jane Fonda is not in any way an opinion leader for me, she certainly did stir me when she talked of her dads “I’ll Be There” speech in Grapes of Wrath. She said she was 12 years old when she saw it in the movies for the first time and it actually shook her to her foundation and set he on the road to standing up for oppressed people.

My question was, if we are really trying to clear the planet, why not start at home? When, I did internships in Austin in the early to mid 90’s, I made sure I only audited staff.

For the better part of L Ron Hubbard’s Scientology career his concept of organization was training of auditors who audited one another up the Bridge. The HGC only became pre-eminent out of fiscal considerations for survival.

So fitting. We are in a season for people to get together. We have zealots and extremists on all sides attempting to keep all apart. Divide and conquer – keep the re-stimulation alive and hope the sheeple won’t notice. The evil warlords, the nose in the air politician, the greedy exec, the type that DM looks up to and might attempt to emulate — only have a desire to keep the people of the world in a day to day struggle just to stay alive.
I believe we were introduced to the gift of a means to make the world a better place for all. It shall not be easy. It does take confront. It takes clean intentions and desire to both give and receive help. But, we do have that chance. I look forward the continued forward motion of the Independent field and the middle ground arena of the world we live in.
We live here and we are part of the greater family of the 3rd dynamics of people and the overall 4th dynamic of the human race. We can do good and we can help one another. Nobody need to be put down to help another. To light a candle takes nothing from the original and merely provides more light on the pathway.
Buddhist economics? What society is that? George, I happen to be spending almost all my time in Buddhist countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia) and there is buying and selling, buying and selling, let me tell you all the time. Ditto for Malaysia, which is a majority Muslim country, though diverse. “Capitalism” is a loaded word – I mean if you are talking about just money making money and/or exploitation of people, no fair exchange or decency in treating labor – of course that is immoral. What it comes down to is just common decency in treating one’s fellow man. It’s less the economic system than it is individual and group ethics and treating others with some compassion and caring. THAT’S what I thought Scientology was going to handle (but big money and religion……….). It can be heartbreaking to see the poor farming people of Cambodia for example and how they struggle. Same for the uneducated who are just trying to eke out a meager living while the tourists eat fancy food (I plead guilty). Yes, Buddhist societies do appear generally friendlier and more tolerant than others (my own personal inspection of years living in those societies). But, let’s not overstate it though. Americans also tend generally to be friendly and helpful towards others. But again, the history of Buddhist countries is rife with poverty and exploitation as in other parts of the world. Economics tends not to have religious. ethnic or racial characteristics. The first step in building a better society is to genuinely care about the welfare of other people. I’m not a Christian, but REALLY applying the basic principles of Christian love would go a LOOOOONG way toward making this a better world. It has been thought by many over the past 150 years that the economic “system” sets the societal tone, and while there is no doubt some truth in this, and some systems are better and fairer than others, the more fundamental to how any group operates is the amount of genuine help towards survival that group members give each other.
And if we have an economic upheaval such as the one I believe is coming, we could very well see the Church itself slide into a situation where individual Church corporations go bankrupt, ideal org projects come to a halt, etc.
East of Eden is more than a book. Its something else. The ending never really ended. I still think about the Trask family often. 🙂

The “meek” back when those words were written meant teachable. It had nothing to do with down trodden, rich, or poor. And none of those conditions make a person more teachable although it would seem that religions do better in times like that. (I reserve my comments on what religions like and don’t like and why.)

How can you say this? No doubt some good came of it as in all difficult times but nothing grabs me right off the bat. The American Revolution with its historical gathering of scholars/historians and men of undying dedication to the freedom and rights of the individual is certainly not dwarfed by a fiat monetary system’s manipulated hiccups.
Willingness to fight back on principle…who? The people in the soup lines? The people running booze? I see some damned confused people trying to survive is what I see. Certainly those times brought out the best of people and in others, it brought out the worst—typical.
I do not see give me liberty or give me death—that’s the ultimate stand in the willingness to fight back on principle.

I learned what’s wrong with Wallstreet and the banking business long before the financial crisis.
I learned about conspiracy practice on this planet by a small elite long before conspiracy theories became so popular.

I learned it from a man that obviously knew a lot about the situation on planet earth (We can only speculate why he knew so much about it)

In both Scientology and capitalism what we need is not a new system. What we need is personal integrity to utilize all the wealth we have in the best systems available. That can only come from one place: the individual. It begins with the integrity of a comm cycle, and remains with the integrity of a comm cycle. What is improved is the goal, the purpose, and product on the comm line. Scientology is a tool, a system, to be used to improve that, just as capitalism is a system one can avail oneself of. And we should not be envious or critical of honest success and power.

Can anyone explain the attraction of Ron Paul as the candidate of choice for a large number of Corporate Scientologists I know, with others seemingly staunch Republicans? (Sarah Palin…really???) These are coastal Californians, which are predominantly – no, overwhelmingly – Democrat areas, so it can’t be explained by location. Is this dictated by Corporate Scientology or David Miscavige?

It’s probably been mentioned here already but I just watched a two-hour documentary called Thrive. It couldn’t match your description of the left vs right better. You are spot on. It even talks about how the Middle Pathers (using different terminology), are laughed at by most of society…..because it was all designed to be that way. Literally. Humans have been conditioned to laugh at people who have the actual truth.

Declaring money a public utility like water, electricity and the highway system would go a long ways to alleviating many ills such as poverty, hunger, homelessness, etc. Of course, the smart guys with their boots on our necks are already privatizing those too. But it is 99 against 1 so they will eventually lose, even though it is looking bad for the 99 right now.
I would certainly agree to 99 %. Because a whole “bridge” (all steps on it done) is hardly available for less than 500.000 $, from Co$ course fees to all other expected / enforced “donations” to travel and lodging costs.

on a slightly different note…in today’s mail I received the “Source” Magazine, “Magazine For The Flag Land Base,” Tampa Bay Edition, Issue. The cover reads: “The Ultimate Goal: Tampa Bay 100% On Source.” On page 29 there is a group picture with a banner in the background reading “Clearwater Is On Source.” It’s made to look like it’s a P/T photo. Below the photo in large letters it reads, “Tampa Bay’s Most valuable PLayers.” But upon closer inspection Heber is at the podium as emcee. How long ago was that picture taken…yet it’s being passed-off as a current happening.
Only slightly off-topic: With the death of Kim Jong Il in the news, I couldn’t help but draw comparisons with DM. Kim totally screwed over his subjects, making North Korea one of the poorest and most suppressed countries in the world, and yet many of the citizens reacted to his death with shock, grief, and alarm at whether they would now be able to survive.
Miscavige has driven many of his followers into poverty while booby-trapping the route to freedom, and yet so many people I know seem to believe their survival is dependent on his leadership and they continue to subject themselves to his abuse and caprice.
Back on topic, one of my favorite Steinbeck books is The Moon is Down, about resistance to the Nazi occupation in a small Norwegian town.

I figured out for and to myself that the “meek” are really those who acknowledge that there are these phenomena of the Seven Deadly Sins (Pride, Avarice, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Envy, Sloth), that some folks do actively engage in and deny such and strive to seek a better path, both for themselves, for they recognize at least the tendency if not the dramatization in themselves, as well as others. No one of these individuals is a “pushover”, a whimp, a spineless wonder.
Man can rise to greater heights. Whether he does or not depends, minimally, on recognizing what’s preventing said rise, and boy is he reluctant to look in the mirror, on the whole.

My advice to anyone reading this post – NEVER BE MEEK about anything on the third and fourth dynamic. Be KNOWING , be STRONG, be ASSERTIVE, . . . WITHOUT being ARROGANT.

American economics are not based on exchange, as simple as it may seem. It’s been a long time since I was in the church and toward the end of my service the bricks began to fall. Many could see it coming, hence the first exodus of 1982. Back then When a service was sold, it was delivered to astounding results. This was true even in the larger outer Orgs and missions, and especially true on the Apollo and the very early Flag Land Base. Money was demanded, but for the most part Service was the watchword and guys who paid got what they paid for. Even Staff Members and SO people got training and auditing if they reached and scrambled for it. I assume that many made gains for some years after I left, hearing from my friends who remained how they got up the bridge. There have been many changes.
The Independent Scientology Network, with all the trained OTs and so many people willing to contribute, can beat the odds. Many can be helped. It isn’t denied out here. It’s more valuable than anything. And it’s available. I personally understand the urgency. I also understand that so many couldn’t make it up the bridge in the latter years and even somewhat before. Actually you may be better for it. The tech in the independent zone is far far better in most cases. It may be your turn to achieve those goals. IMO the meek will inherit nothing. Things are caused, they don’t just happen. I believe it takes reach and determinism. But believe me, there’s no time like the present.

Thank you, Marty, for once again pointing us in the direction of the basics of spirituality. I was a little surprised with how you, as an American, perceive that people in other countries see Americans: “Most of what the world might still consider admirable about the character of Americans was born during the Great Depression: economy, brotherhood, compassion for one’s fellows, sacrifice, alertness and willingness to fight back on principle and not for personal gain.”
Based on my vast experience in dealing with foreigners and being one myself, I would formulate the most admired American traits to be resourcefulness, resilience, optimism, ability to not sweat the small stuff, ability to easily change things like locations, residences, jobs, cars, etc., and most of all naivete which allows Americans to donate billions and help others and the environment as well as prompts the US to get into wars trying to spread democracy and ideals of equality. This last trait is probably both most admired and most hated and is the decisive most prominent American trait recognized in the world. In other words, if you ask a bunch of foreigners at random which country is the most naive and helps the most with money, people and materiel and jumps into every fight to try and uphold some ideals, vast majority if not all of the foreigners will answer USA.

The Church is running a huge Can’t Have on the public. Truth being told, I never liked the Illegal PC policy. I think when you present a path to freedom to people, you need to let them walk the path. To do otherwise is quite horrible. However, DM and the Church have taken denial of the bridge to new heights.
1. If you originate “wrong” thinking – you are denied your bridge or at least denied service at certain orgs. One’s Ruin can actually get one denied service. The orgs are not safe.
2. The non-clear R-factor creating routes down the bridge
3. 3 swings F/N denies one the bridge
4. Created a monopoly so there is no pricing competition and priced the bridge out of an affordable range for even the middle class
5. Made the experience of being in an org so horrible (via the constant regging for direct donations & make wrong) that the enturbulation out weighs the wins – so one leaves.
6. Made the road to becoming an auditor so long (with the addition of The Basics) that one goes into apathy and gives up the goal.
7. Rote or “blanket” handling of the public so few individuals actually do get handled.
I spontaneously had this thought the other day. Lots of grassroots Auditor training. Arbitraries truly cancelled. (LOL) Stops and barriers to making Auditors quickly handled. Everyone starts getting trained to be able to make Clears. And we start making clears in earnest. Imagine, 100,000 Independent Scientologists around the world all trained to be able to Clear people. No need to to become full time Auditors, unless you want to. But, if everyone made 1 Clear a year. One. We’d have made 100,000 Clears in a year. This would be Clearing the Planet. The Orgs are busy, I guess, but busy doing what?????!!!!!! They are certainly not Clearing the Planet.
The Simplicity is really amazing. If people are winning, they will continue up the bridge on both sides. That mean applying the tech that works. It also means creating an environment of ARC and Validation where the goal is increased Self Determinism and Freedom for the people we are helping.
A place where you are validated, where you feel safe, where you gain more freedom. This place would be crowded with people wanting service and just wanting to hang out. Many of us remember the old missions and orgs this way. And I know there are wonderful PT Independent Scientolgists creating these Islands of Theta. Here at Marty’s Blog is one of those Islands.
The meek are the people who live above the enforce band on the CDEI scale. The meek show mercy. The meek are usually serving, not being served (and/or, contributing to, not must be contributed to). Meek also means: shy; compliant, acquiescent, deferential, docile, forbearing, gentle, humble, lenient, mild, modest, orderly, passive, patient, peaceful, plain, serene, soft, tame, tolerant, unassuming, unpretentious, unresisting. For these reasons there is every reason why the meek would inherit the Earth.
It is interesting to note how much LRH talks about the staff in the 50’s and 60’s and the importance of them getting up the Bridge first. It is also important to note how so many of the Clearing plans developed in the same time period involved co-audting, both as a means to get the masses up the Bridge, but also for staff to move up the Bridge and at the same time get trained.
Less interesting to note are the financial reasons why the Has co-audit “failed” and other such attempts because someone (way before DM) found it didn’t make as much money as the HGC idea.
In the 90’s DM cancelled staff co-audits under the guise that the staff should be getting the “best tech” and be audited by highly trained auditors instead of the co-audit ideas. “Surprisingly” the amount of highly trained staff auditors never showed up. Then auditing was replaced all together with “make it go right” and all kinds of campaigns which mandated that the staff have no case because they shouldn’t, and they should just be OT’s as a matter of course, and, if you weren’t you were simply out-ethics and that of course meant you weren’t eligible, so from the late 90’s and forward the great exodus of staff began, but I guess POB was separating the wolves from the lamb.
Also less interesting was how much auditing rundowns LRH developed specifically to improve the case level and competence of staff. Witness the L Rundowns, FPRD, Super Power, KTL, LOC, which are today either non-existent or solely delivered to public.
If LRH’s intentions had been truly followed we would have strong orgs with even stronger staff members who would be able to cope with the changing climate in today’s world and lots of Scientology would be happening!

We have learned a lot since George’s time. Labor, land and capital are MEST but ideas are created by Theta. Ideas are unlimited. MEST is limited.
Google, Amazon, PayPal, MS and even Corporate Scientology are about ideas. Created. These are not borne out of labor, land or capital.
Ideas, or Intellectual Property (IP) now compose 75% of US’s wealth, up from 25% 60 years ago (along with DMSMH), while labor, land and capital continue to shrink. Even in China.
DM is propelled upwards by the biggest idea (IP) of all time: LRH’s ideas. I sure wish DM was on the down slope, but he is not. So, he is not going to go away with the tides of time. DM will go away (I think) only as Marty said about the meek inheriting the earth:

Pretending to stand for freedom while stripping individuals of their personal money and rape and entrapment of the mind with thought stopping has been around for a long time. LRH developed the tech to get us past that but we know actually applying that tech has its own stops therein.
I have watched all of the above plus many more. Understanding of the situation is needed to effectively deal with it. The areas cover not only economic control and destruction but also clean water and food, healthcare and creating sickness, and full control over your ability to travel and communicate. No, I am not paranoid – but I am aware enough to keep in touch with what is going on around us. It is all part of handle or disconnect, and sometimes the only option is the handle step – or remain the effect of the SP (NOT).
I think the term meek as you will find it the Matthew 5 must be understood in the full context of the Sermon on the Mount.
In this chapter Jesus tells his audience that they should not loose their faith in the face of suppression. Furthermore he tells about the then “middle class” and the establishment which corrupted the spiritual core of earlier prophets.
Being meek has nothing to do to give in or being reasonable.
It’s just a way to avoid HE&R. A good one if cultivated on a self-determined basis. You can even go exterior to the bank.
In SCN 8-8008 LRH says:
Many of the concepts from the Sermon on the Mount are advices how you can live to stop creating new case (going down the dwindling spiral) and beginning on the road to heaven (which is not a place, see Lk. 17,21).
So what is this, being meek?
Is this a manifastation of low havingness?
An absence of games?
Self-abnegation?
It’s a way of not-know (spiritual), not-have (physical).

“Capitalism” is a loaded term, and has become conflated with compassionless greed, which is not at all inherent in the practice of capitalism. A 10-year-old who spends her $5 on lemons and sugar and sets up a lemonade stand trying to make maybe $5 profit is a capitalist.

Individual Liberty and Personal Responsibility — these are the principles upon which the United States was founded and flourished, and which made it a beacon of freedom to the world. If the 51% can take away the millions or the pennies of the 49%, then you have no real freedom and literally anything can be taken from you, including your life.
it is true that there are those few who are robbing the many, but the wrong target has been chosen. It could even be argued that it is the few nasties who, through misdirection like a stage magician, have deluded the Occupy-ers into going after the merely very successful, rather than the true enemy which is entities like the banksters of the Federal Reserve and the Goldman Sachs, and the New World Order politicians who are trying to corral every person in every country into one totalitarian regime, a la Orwell’s “1984”. The few rape the many by creating trillions out of thin air, for the enrichment only of the few, and through this inflation making your savings and anything else you own worth less. Stealing your value and enslaving your children to a system of credit and taxation which enriches only the few.
Corporations alone cannot do this — it can only be done with the collusion of governments. The answer is adherence to the principles of Liberty and the restoration of the Constitution. When the greedy act by force or fraud to steal and enslave, it is the legitimate function of government to protect and defend the freedom of the individual.
In case it escaped attention, Congress just passed the NDAA, officially repealing the Constitution by authorizing the indefinite detention of US citizens without trial. Every one of us right now, whether we know it or not, is in a fight for our very freedom, which is to say our very lives. We are literally on that slippery slope and can so quickly and easily slide into abject slavery.
The principles of Scientology are in absolute alignment with the principles of individual liberty (self-determinism) and personal responsibility. There is no need to mandate any particular economic system — it is only necessary to allow people to be truly free.
Today, that 10-year-old lemonade capitalist may be hard-pressed to operate her stand, as many local governments around the country seem to have declared war on lemonade stands, bake sales, and garage sales. And the small-business owner can easily be buried in dizzying piles of red tape and mandatory tax filings.
Marty is correct to point out that the element so often missing is Compassion. It is widely assumed that compassion is incongruous with capitalism, but that is not true. It is rather that the urge of the ethical individual and group toward compassion and charity has been co-opted by government, with individual action increasingly discouraged and gradually being outlawed. A neighborhood bake sale to raise money for charity (I think it was for a cancer-stricken family) was shut down for lack of permits. It is illegal in LA and Santa Monica to feed the hungry, unless you have crazy-expensive kitchen equipment sanctioned by the health department. You can’t let a homeless guy sleep in your garage to help him get on his feet, especially if you try to help further by putting in some exchange by charging token rent.
There are thousands of other examples. The natural compassion of individuals is thwarted all around, and blunted by the brainwashing that compassion is only the job of governments, not people. Somehow it is assumed to be more workable for the state to take your money at the point of a gun and addict a family to a humiliating welfare system. Previously, this was more the role of voluntary communities and churches, not governments. By surrendering our compassion to government, we allow as much as 50% or more to be wasted on unnecessary complexity and bureaucracy, when more could be used directly to help.
I think Marty is correct that compassion should be stressed. Certainly to act in compassion and to exhort members or adherents to do so is a legitimate and historical role fulfilled by religious or spiritual leaders, whether Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, or Scientologist.
Someone else would be able to cite the LRH references. There was a PL I think entitled “Money”, in which he talked about fiat currency, seemingly a jab at the Fed and other such thieving schemes. The entire subject is awash with references to individual freedom and personal responsibility. And the idea of help and how to compassionately provide it is a frequent topic.
Way back in the 70s it became clear to me. I had arrived in Scientology as a socialist — deeply concerned about racism, poverty, war-mongering, and corrupt police. But after the slightest education in LRH’s ideas and writings, — as a Scientologist, it made sense to support free markets, individual freedom, personal responsibility, and self-determined compassionate action. Freedom, real freedom, is the remedy for racism, poverty, war-mongering, corrupt police. Those political ills simply cannot exist when rights (the freedom) of the individual is protected — protected from SPs and thieves, and especially from kings and lords and other governments.
(Marty, I like your “Joad-ing” us toward compassion. Who can suggest a worthy recipient as an initial target for donations, and set up a PayPal so those here can donate? Ot we could donate to an existing fund already set up by others. Maybe a person or family hit by tragedy or just by hard times? Maybe an auditor wants to donate some sessions to provide them some relief? Anyway, it could be cool for us Independents to show some palpable compassionate spirit, as a contrast to the PR compassion of the RCS. Just a couple of ideas. I’m broke right now, but I pledge $20.)

Anyway- what you said is correct but he even takes it a step further. It is really an amazing book and really had a profound effect on my own spiritual development.

Extremely well stated and I see your points clearly. I remember traveling in Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and other countries and I had the same impression. In addition, I feel grateful for the bounty that the United States offers and I love the country having many years ago served in the Army during the Vietnam conflict. It is as you say – the “genuine help towards survival that group members give each other.”
Scientology briefly gave me that positive thrust through its doctrine. It faded away with “David Moth-scavige”
I now feel that their is an imbalance in America caused in part by capitalism. Buddhist economics is a way of changing that.
By the way, I read the first two chapters of the “Diamond Cutter” mentioned by windhorse. It is a blowout! Great.

Just been listening to a LRH Factors CD “SOP Utility ( continued) On section 3: ” Now, in a book-British author T.H. White wrote a book called Sword in the Stone, a very charming book about, allegedly, the early days of King Arthur. Merlin there is the teacher of the young king and who is known affectionately, I think, as “The Wart”. And one of the educational processes was to take the young Arthur out and let him be things. Of course, Merlin mocked them up so that he could be them and he had the experience of being a carp and being a few other things that were very interesting-a very fascinating passage”.
I certainly have difficulty currently “being” the huge amounts of money to afford corporate Scientology. I will have to get in some more practise with Jesus; er I mean Merlin.

Very good points. Henry George is from the 19th century. Also, ideas and the service industry are now dominant.
I will simply point out that a large part of the manufacturing which is now overseas originated in the United States with its fountain of ideas.
This trend of capitalism to seek the lowest cost and the most profit is a direct condition for the shift out of the USA.
Economic equality hit its peak in the United States around 1968 according to the GINI numbers. Since that time, the rich have gotten richer. There is no doubt about that. If you look at the income of Wall Street companies, you will see a serious concentration of wealth around New York.
I will stand by my statement in regard to Mr. Miscavige. Even though I only met him briefly, I could see that he was pre-occupied with himself.
In addition, he is a master at confusion and even the quotations he uses from LRH are usually out of context. He sent me a two hour video on the “Golden Age” and I noticed that fact.
I highly recommend you look at the “DIAMOND CUTTER” book mentioned by windhorse. It is a blowout and will give you a better idea of Buddhist economics.

(in Shambhala, a warrior is one who works tirelessly to help his/her fellow man recognize his/her basic goodness)

Yes, I guess it is not so much naivete but arrogance. If the world will be inherited by the meek, it probably won’t be by Americans then.
The most shocking thing to me, when I was on staff in the mid-80s, was how little Scientology philosophy many of the staff knew about. Most had read a few chapters of DMSMH (if that), and that was their level of Scientology education. And then they were put on “staff status” or admin hatting courses, and never actually learned what the philosophical essence of Scientology entailed.
To make matters worse, the staff were rarely encouraged or given the opportunity to “make Scientology their own” — it all became very much a “now we’re supposed to”.
Well-said, and it almost happened at the beginning of OWS, but then a funny thing happened and it was co-opted by the very forces it sought to rein in. Same thing happened to the original “pure” tea party movement — the SPs don’t like to let a true movement for freedom take root.

The reason staff didn’t (and don’t) get auditing and training is because Miscavige calculatingly, with malice aforethought, knocked the Qual Division out in the late 1980’s. One of Qual’s responsibilities, is to ensure that staff get trained and audited — specifically, the job of the SSO (Staff Section Officer) is to see to it. Miscavige knew what he was doing when he destroyed the Qual Div. Staff not benefitting from standard auditing and training was part of that destructive plan.
Can you send me some links on the co-opting of OWS? I am thoroughly informed as to the Koch brothers’ co-opting of Tea Party.

I meant that the good intentions of OWS were co-opted at least in part by those with something to gain or hold onto. While the tea party was clearly co-opted when a true grassroots movement was diluted by seem-alike organizations trading on the name but calling for decidedly anti-liberty policies, takeover organizations did not spring up in the case of OWS, so it is less clear. Instead, after an auspicious beginning that garnered a lot of support from across the political spectrum, some reported OWS messages seemed soon to veer toward calling for continuation and escalation of tax policies that take from the middle-class and the poor, rather than assist their freedom as intended. What is the point of large increases of income tax on anyone? To be able to continue to spend more money than we actually have? State workers unions jumped in to support OWS. These people have a stake in tax revenues — they are paid generally higher-than-private-sector wages, with outrageous pension arrangements, directly out of tax revenues. Yet who pays for the wages of these largely unneeded bureaucrats? The average worker pays, and many of the actual 1% of high-earners are actually middle-class workers. The fat-cats who were the stated intended targets of OWS are more like the 0.01% (not a number I can support — only a wild guess). I am just saying that state workers unions and the like are part of the problem, not part of the solution.
