More evidence that Cult leader David Miscavige has gone stark, staring mad is surfacing by the day. While he employees round the clock teams of between one and two dozen Private Eyes and OTAs on me and Mike Rinder each, his empire is going down in flames. Janet Reitman is only beginning the promotion tour for her book Inside Scientology. And her central conclusion that the church is imploding and reform is only possible from without is being published far and wide in her initial interviews. Miscavige cannot do anything about Reitman because virtually all of his resources are tied up in Texas and Florida making lulz videos. Implosion, meltdown, or tipping point? Or all three in one? Rome burns while Nero plays with his fiddle.
Not much comes easy in the Independence game, but one thing we never seem to lack is inspiration. Thanks to all those who provide it in the present. And to those great Americans who have been providing it for more than two hundred years.
I am a Scientologist, and I know that LRH’s technology works 100%
if applied correctly. I started my journey in Scientology in
1988 in Germany, and over the years I have learned a great deal: I
am a trained auditor – Class 5 Graduate, FPRD, HRD. As a trained
Auditor I have delivered several thousands of hours of auditing to
others. I am also a trained supervisor. Additionally, I have done
many courses to learn about Scientology Ethics and Administrative
Technology. Furthermore, I have gone up the bridge to OT8 (I have
attested to OT8 in 2007).
In recent times I have come to understand that many parts of
Scientology technology is no longer being applied in a standard
manner. I have also observed that worldwide Scientology statistics
are downtrending with Scientology organizations not expanding.
Furthermore, I have observed that prices for auditing and training
in Scientology are exorbitantly high so that only a small
percentage of people are able to go up the bridge and experience
the wins LRH had intended for them. Being that I am trained in
LRH’s PTS/SP technology, I know that these circumstances are not
mere chance but purposely made to be so by a suppressive person; I
firmly believe that this suppressive person is the self-appointed
dictator of the Church of Scientology: David Miscavige.
In the last three years I have conducted extensive research.
Although you may have been driven to silence, by means of
suppressive intimidation by the Cof$, I highly recommend that you
conduct your own personal research to come to the truth, without
leaving SCIENTOLOGY. Below you will find some websites that you can
visit to learn more. My research made clear to me that David
Miscavige is a Suppressive Person. By methods of intimidation,
false propaganda, and general suppression Miscavige uses his
position to eliminate the application of standard LRH technology
and stops Scientologists from going up the Bridge to total Freedom.
Following are some factors to think about:
Over the years I have visited many organizations and as per my
observations these orgs were struggling and not expanding at all,
although the many Miscavige propaganda events falsely try to
convince you otherwise. Scientology organizations are not expanding
because people are purposely held back to go up the bridge:
Scientologists are harassed into donating for all kinds of things
BUT the bridge: the IAS, Super Power projects, Planetary
Dissemination, or for ever-changing LRH books (They are now being
“corrected” for the fifth time to FORCE public to buy them again).
Miscavige’s newest invention to extract money from Scientologists:
“Ideal Orgs”. As a trained EstO, I understand that LRH advises
against “Having to have before one can do”; however, Miscavige
convinced Scientologists that we need posh palace-like org
buildings in order to be able to expand Scientology organizations.
Miscavige’s largest money making machine – the IAS – has gathered
hundreds of millions of dollars from Scientologists over the past
decades; so, if posh buildings are the answer to org expansion why
are those millions of dollars not being used to purchase these
buildings? Why are Scientologists being forced into further large
donations for “their ideal orgs”? However, what are those millions
of $$ used for? Here some interesting links: http://www.tampabay.com/specials/2009/reports/project/scobee.shtml, https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/31-factors/ (Factor Nr.3), http://leavingscientology.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/david-miscavige–
lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous/
Another example of stopping Scientologists going up the Bridge and
to deprive them of even more money is the inventions of Bridge
steps that have to be “re-done because we found another LRH
reference.” Furthermore, the invention of “the Golden Age of Tech”
which is a method to learn LRH’s tech verbatim is a means to force
auditors to re-do their prior training “because the old training
was no good.” They of course have to pay for their entire training
again. Golden Age of Tech is a direct violation of LRH’s study
technology and against the way LRH trained auditors: LRH never
wanted you to learn the tech verbatim but instead to achieve conceptual
understanding by applying standard study technology. And by the
way, “the new idea”: “Golden Age of Tech” has not produced any
expansion of Scientology as it was promised by Miscavige.
– For the general public Scientology has become a controversial
subject at best – however, it holds truer to say that Scientology
is being viewed rather as a cult, avoided and detested. LRH writes
in KSW Series 1, “Trouble spots occur only where there are “no
results”. Attacks from governments or monopolies occur only where
there are “no results” or “bad results”.
– Miscavige uses LRH’s Ethics and Justice Technology in a
suppressive manner to silence critics. Scientologists who question
rather unquestionable matters within the church are “handled” with
harsh ethics or even justice. Scientologists such as highly trained
OTs and Church executives who are trying to uncover Miscavige
crimes are being falsely declared suppressive persons in order to
force their families and friends to disconnect from them (see below
websites). The Gestapo-like ethics and justice machinery of
Miscavige cull these people’s PC folders for overts revealed in
confidential sessions and publish them on SP Declares; examples
are Mark Rathbun or Mike Rinder. What other church does this? Would
LRH do something like that? NO, he would NOT! In this context
whatever happened to these highly ranked Sea Org members who had
dedicated their lives to fulfill LRH’s mission and worked for
decades within the CofS: Mr. Mark Rathbun (former RTC executive),
Mr. Mike Rinder (former Office of Special affairs executive), Ms.
Amy Scobee (WDC executive); these executives after having
recognized D. Miscavige as an SP have left the church (NOT
Scientology). And most of all: Where is Mr. Heber Jentzsch, one of
our most favorite leaders in Scientology? What has Miscavige done
to him?? Read here: https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2010/04/04/free-heber/
– An increasing number of credible victims and witnesses report
physical beatings and mental abuse of Sea Org members and
executives conducted by David Miscavige. He even has a prison
called “the hole” where he imprisons staff for weeks, months, or
even years at a time. Mr. Mark Rathbun reports, “Miscavige’s abuse
of Scientology executives and staff became so extreme and
continuous, he resorted to locking all of CMO INT and Exec Strata
into a building and called the prison “the Hole.” RTC, CMO/WDC,
Gold, IAS, CST, OSA Int and ASI executives and staff have regularly
been deposited in the Hole and subjected to Reverse Dianetics,
including physical beatings and severe mental abuse for months or
even years at a time, (Mark Rathbun, 2009).”
– Suppression of OTs: Here I will quote Mr. Mark Rathbun,
“Miscavige has turned the top end of the Bridge into a dead end:
First, he has programmed the Advanced Organizations, including the
FSO, to regularly security check pre-O.T.s, and then use their
confessions to coerce them into paying more money for atonement, a
practice not unlike the Medieval Catholic Church selling
indulgences. Second, he has imposed an unwritten code of behavior
amongst O.T.s. They are regularly made to conform to correct dress,
language, political thought, and even ideas as to how to use their
personal time. Said practice is anathema to the very purpose of
Scientology, which is to make a person more his- or herself, more
insouciant and independent thinking. Third, Miscavige has entered
arbitrary “contribution as a Scientologist” requirements mid-levels
which can be satisfied by making cash “donations.” Fourth,
Miscavige requires pre-OTs to attend his regular propaganda events
(see Factors 22 and 23) and are treated as ethics bait until they
enthusiastically embrace his projected public image. This enforced
acceptance of falsehood makes attainment of OT technically
impossible. Thus, Scientology, as practiced in Miscavige’s orgs, is
auditing one toward conformity, solidity, lies; in other words,
down the tone scale, or, the precise opposite direction to the
intended aim of auditing, (Mark Rathbun, 2009).”
There are many other indicators – bad indicators within the Church
of Miscavige; if you are interested to know the website to visit

With the above being declared, I would like you to know, my dear
friend that I no longer can agree with the practices of the current
Church of Scientology and that I hereby resign from this church. On
a positive note: I will remain a Scientologist and apply Ron’s
technology independently from the current Church of Scientology.
Let me also advise you to do your own research and to disconnect
from this suppression as soon as possible. You will experience a
resurgence of power, happiness, and expansion. Additionally, let me
tell you that there are many decent Scientologists in the field
continuing to apply the technology independently of the CofS; among
these people are OTs, highly trained auditors, and ex-sea org
executives. If you are worried for your bridge progress once you
have left the current Church of Scientology: Do NOT worry in any
way. There is help – better help and standard technology outside of
the suppressive Church of Scientology. Knowing the suppressive
methods of this church they will publish an SP Declare for me
sooner or later; at that time you may be forced and intimidated
into disconnecting from me; if you do so I will respect your
decision. However, if you decide to do your own research and free
yourself from this hidden source of suppression I will be very
happy for you, my friend.
Church of Scientology members would do well to read the writings of Martin Luther King. In the following one sentence King pithily describes the danger of what they have become individually and collectively:
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
That people would continue to forfeit their homes, their retirement funds, and their children’s educations in order to line the pockets of a head of a cult who spends that money consistently, and now very overtly, for the purposes of destroying the constitutional rights, the livelihood, and the very life of anyone with the fortitude to step out of cult lock-step is anathema to the very principles Scientology is built upon (not to mention America, and Western Civilization). The church’s “creed” for example:
We of the church believe…
That all men have inaliable rights to think freely, to talk freely, to write freely their own opinions and to counter or utter or write upon the opinions of others…
And that no agency, less than God has the power to suspend or set aside these rights, overtly or covertly.
Last week the representatives of the 619 people of Ingleside on the Bay Texas, on their own origination and determinism, sought to protect those very rights in their own community:
The Miscavige Cult’s response to this article which was published yesterday was chilling:
1) the cult’s PI Ralph S Gomez stalked my wife and I all day long with three cult members in tow. Seven separate incidents, including the photographing of us at our home and Gomez slowly following us by car during our evening walk.
2) Cult PI Gomez and cult member Joanne Wheaton toured a home across the street from us expressing the intention to purchase it. Once again, under false pretenses.
3) Cult PI Ralph S Gomez foreshadowed a Miscavige cult legal threat to the city. While denying his affiliation with the cult to many citizens over the past weeks, and lying about his identity and affiliations, Gomez wanted to know whether the ordinance was directed at he and his cohorts because of their “religion.”
This coming Tuesday at 7 p.m. the town council will consider the Cult’s application for a 5-day permit to shoot a “documentary” in Ingleside on the Bay. Notwithstanding the fact they have spent ten weeks disturbing Ingleside on the Bay using the cover of “just filming a documentary.” The Cult has applied for the permit under the name Squirrel Busters productions notwithstanding Gomez’ and Wheaton’s exchange last week with an Ingleside Police Officer memorialized in the officer’s report as follows:
I asked Wheaton where she worked, and she confirmed that she and Gomez worked for Squirrel Busters. At that time, I asked Wheaton and Gomez both if they had any business cards for the company, and they both replied no. I asked who the producer was, who the filmographer was, and who the company is owned by. Neither Wheaton, nor Gomez could answer my questions, and continued to tell me they are filming a documentary on Mr. Mark Rathbun, and have simple questions that they want to answer, and until Rathbun does, they will continue to follow him. I asked Wheaton and Gomez if they would have the common courtesy to allow Rathbun privacy while eating dinner, and they both replied, not until we get answers. Neither Wheaton, nor Gomez produced any identity cards that state they work for Squirrel Busters Productions…
They have asked what they might be able to do to help. While none of you have any duty or obligation to do a darned thing about all this, if you feel you and your community are in any way being disturbed, abused, or gamed by the Los Angeles based cult of Scientology (aka Squirrel Busters, aka Falcon Investigations) you might want to weigh in on the cult’s permit application at IOB City Hall Tuesday 5 July at 7 p.m.
Thank you all for your continuing strength, courage and wisdom.
June 28 morning update (10:15 a.m.). I just got back from a six mile bike ride. Thanks to the good citizens of IOB I am afforded such luxuries because as you will see a number of unnamed heroes have got my back. I was followed down a relatively desolate 2-lane hiway by a gold sedan manned with cult spies with cameras. As I returned to IOB I was greeted (in what was supposed to be an ambush) by three cult members in a golf cart as I rounded the corner into our little town. All of this was witnessed and then reported by locals the moment I arrived home.
June 27 morning update. The incident captured on video immediately below occurred at ten a.m. this morning. It is apparently the Miscavige Cult’s response to the post that follows:
My name is Mark “Marty” Rathbun. I live at 115 Bayshore Court . My wife Monique and I have been residents of Ingleside on the Bay (IOB) since November 1, 2006. For three years we rented the light blue house at 902 S Sandpiper from Janie and Pat Hunt. We leased a home on the canal on Woodhaven for a year before moving to our present location last November.
Us
I worked for the Coastal Bend Herald (The Conscience of the Coastal Bend) and We the People monthly newspaper in Corpus Christi and did a number of other writing assignments from essay writing to contribution to an historical book. Until recently Monique worked as a supervisor at Superior Health Care in Corpus Christi.
I worked for the church of Scientology from my twenty-first birthday in January 1978 until Dec 12, 2004. Wikipedia has a relatively accurate and succinct account of my career in the church:
Between 1982 and the time I left the organization I answered to no one but the head of Scientology, David Miscavige. Wikipedia also includes a fairly accurate summation of Miscavige’s career:
I moved to IOB primarily to write, fish, boat, and spend some years enjoying some of the fundamental virtues that drive humanity but that I found so lacking during most of my adult life in the church of Scientology.
In 2008 I learned that several former high level Scientology officials had followed my lead and left the church of Scientology. Some of those old friends found me through the internet and came to visit. The more stories I heard about how the organization had continued to deteriorate under Miscavige’s command after my departure, the more I grappled with responsibility for doing something
effective for those who continued to suffer in part for my having helped
empower what had become a ruthless madman.
I was also urged by many friends to make myself available to help former members “decompress” and make sense of their time within the cult. That necessarily involved application of some of the principles of the philosophy of Scientology. I found many former members of the cult felt most robbed – and the chief reason they stayed in an abusvie, cult-like environment – was
their fear of the cruel, well funded attacks Corporate Scientology had become
infamous for leveling against those with the temerity to say, as the first
Protestants did in 16th Century Europe, “I do not need the imprimatur of a corrupt priest to read, understand and live the words written by the Founder of my chosen faith.”
I put up a website in Feb 2009, which expanded into a blog in July that year, that announced what I intended to do, Moving on up a Little Higher.
Within days Miscavige’s cult took extraordinary measures to intercept three of the first five people who expressed interest in seeing me. Also within days I received requests for interviews from news media around the world. I chose the St Petersburg Times (the largest newspaper in Florida) because I knew its writers and editors, knew they had integrity, they had a lot of experience
investigating Scientology for decades and would not back down like other
media. The result was a several part series entitled the Truth Rundown. The Times put over three hours of taped interviews with me on their website with the
series, where I discuss in detail my entire history with Corporate Scientology
from the beginning to the day I left. While I subsequently did a five part series on CNNs’ Anderson Cooper 360, a two-part ABC Nightline special, and an hour-long documentary aired on British Broadcasting Corporation, the Times videos are the most comprehensive, least edited account of my history directly from me. That video interview – organized by topics – can be found at:
A consequence of my having spoken out as loudly and thoroughly as I did was the creation of an exodus of sorts from the Scientology cult. Houghton-Mifflin publishing company commissioned a two-year objective study into Scientology. The author of the resultant book (which will be officially released next month) Janet Reitman was interviewed this week by the Editor in Chief of the New York Village Voice, Tony Ortega. She concluded her interview with the following which probably serves as the best explanation why the cult of Scientology’s head David Miscavige has directed unlimited funds be utilized to destroy me utterly:
Which brings us to the reason for this post now. Many residents of IOB have been surprised, shocked, or simply intrigued at the antics of the cult and its hired private investigators over the past several weeks. Prior to about mid April their activities against me were limited to:
Hacking my email.
Illegally buying my phone records.
Buying my trash from BFI and searching it for
any clue they could use against me.
Setting up 24/7/365 surveillance of my every
move; they have had agents embedded in Ingleside and IOB for over a year.
Hacking airline computers to get my flight plans
so that every time I left town in the past two years, i) my wife was confronted by two unidentified cult members each time, and ii) I was picked up by teams of private investigators at each destination airport.
The hacking of my blog and shutting it down.
Putting up 28 websites in attempts to slander and discredit me – including such allegations that my wife is in fact a man and
that I murdered my own brother thirty years ago. The cult is well heeled and will invent and publish the most vicious defamation, inviting libel suits so that they can ruin the plaintiff utterly by
abuse of court processes.
Sending private investigators to every former member who has met with me, multiple times, offering cash incentives to bad mouth me in any way.
Sending private investigators to harass each of Monique’s associates, friends, and even her former husband.
Sending teams of dummies to put cameras and microphones in my face in restaurants, sidewalks, airports, and other public places, obstructing my path, then bringing bogus assault charges against me for gently guiding them out of my way when they obstruct me, my wife or friends. To give you an idea how insane it gets, they hired a former FBI agent lawyer in Corpus to heavily lobby to have me prosecuted for grasping a microphone they stuck in my face, over my own property line after I had to herd four of them off my doorstep. Four unidentified intruders who traveled from California for the exclusive purpose of harassing me on my doorstep. The county attorney who evaluated the case said she
had seen nothing more frivolous in her career (and could not believe anyone in their right minds would spend money to have an attorney try to lobby for such a case). They have done this to me nine
times that I am aware of in three states. All nine cases have been heavily lobbied by their expensive lawyers and cop private investigators. All nine have been laughed out of existence
by the officials receiving them. Zero for nine.
Here is the unedited video tape of the 17 April incident at my own home referred to above:
Which brings us to the present. Rather than take a hint that their acts are
making them abhorrent in the public eye, Miscavige has decided to damn the
torpedoes and sink me by any means necessary. In the past two weeks, his blue shirts have made a practice of harassing us daily by overtly training cameras on our home from the street, then travelling to the entrance to Bahia Marina to do the same to the other side of our home. They harass us at Ingleside restaurants. They have added to their couple of covert surveillance properties by leasing real estate in IOB to overtly harass me and my wife.
All harassment efforts are being coordinated by the cult’s chief private investigator, one David Lubow dba Falcon investigations from Los Angeles.
David Lubow - Chief Cult Private Eye
First, they attempted to rent the apartment directly across the canal from our bedroom at Bahia Marina. This photo of their target apartment is taken from our bedroom window:
Luckily, the good people at Bahia caught the investigator lying about his intent and identity and refused on the basis that they would not rent to people attempting to spy on neighbors:
Then, they attempted to purchase several prime lots directly across the canal from our home. Here is the view of the property from our deck:
Again, another true American refused to sell out to the cult.
Finally, under false pretenses, Ralph S Gomez, making big cult dollars working for Lubow, lied to a local real estate agent in order to rent these premises on Bayshore Circle, less than a quarter of a mile from our home:
This is their staging area for two to three daily visits to the front of our home for filming and to the rear of our home for more filming of our home. Several other drive bys are done of our home by vehicles during each day. Gomez has been seen driving three to five cult members around IOB wearing baby blue t-shirts to perform these “religious” rituals. The T-shirt have photographs of my head on them with the international strike out symbol across it in red:
While the Bayshore Circle Cult headquarters is just less than a quarter mile from our home by road, it is less than a couple hundred yards as the camera records. Here is Cult HQ – the wood sided home with orange trim – taken from the front deck of our home:
Gomez also uses the Bayshore Circle headquarters to drive cult members to Ingleside to interrupt and harass us in town.
Gomez is working for the cult’s most notorious private detective, David Lubow from Falcon Investigations in Los Angeles. Lubow has worked for the cult for more than twenty-years and will stop at nothing, violate any law he can get away with violating, because he is a card-carrying member of the cult. Gomez has consistenly refused to indentify himself while stalking my wife and I. He has lied to a number of people in Ingleside and IOB. It has been established he is working for David Lubow.
Ralph S Gomez
This past Thursday night Gomez was escorting his merry pranksters around IOB in a golf cart clad in their “bust Marty” t-shirts. Gomez spent three hours trying to prevent us from finding out where the golf cart would wind up. Finally, he dumped it on Starlight drive and had a cult driven van whisk five cult members away. Gomez trespassed through a closed chainlink gate and hid behind the home at 721 Starlight. With my headlights all over the place Gomez emerged.
I asked Gomez whether he had rented the place since he was deep into the property hiding and there was a for-rent sign in front. Gomez said “no”…..”but I have the owner’s permission to be here.” A later call and visit by me to the owner confirmed Gomez’s assertion to be an unadulterated lie. Gomez,
caught in the hot-seat, finally broke down after weeks of following the cult
script: “we are a media company, we are here to do a documentary, we just want to interview Marty, etc.” Gomez made a big mistake and let a little bit of truth eke out. Gomez told me that I just need to go “fix it” with Miscavige’s cult. Gomez told me that all of what they have been doing to me would go away if I simply caved in and settled with Miscavige’s cult. Gomez admitted to me that if he was the recipient of what they had dished out to me over the past several weeks he personally would long ago have “flipped out.” Gomez told me all the harassment would cease if I simply surrendered.
Unfortunately for Gomez, Miscavige and those misguided cult
members doing his bidding, the evidence of their real intent, as admitted by
Gomez in a moment of fear when he was separated from the pack of cult members, has been provided to the Federal Bureau of Investigation which has an ongoing Human Trafficking investigation with Miscavige as the main target, and several local law enforcement agencies.
The cult has two weapons and two weapons only: a) harassment to a degree unprecedented in a civilized society, and b) money to buy the victim of “a” when he is put into an amenable frame of mind. Just so everybody knows, as Miscavige just won’t seem to get it through his head, I will never fold to any pressure no matter how intense, and I am not for sale – at any price.
To the many IOB and Ingleside residents who have expressed and provided support, Monique and I cannot thank you enough. You have deeply touched our hearts and greatly increased our faith in humanity. If you have any questions or you would like more background on the matter feel free to stop by anytime or email me at rathbunmark@yahoo.com
NOTE for regular readers of Moving On Up a Little Higher:
I am posting this open letter to the members of my immediate community
here so interested people can readily get to the truth of the situation playing out in their community. I believe it will be of interest to most of the regular readers too. It recaps the history of how I got into all this and how it has wound up to where things are currently at. As we approach four million visits to this site, I recognize not everybody has been here from the outset or had the ability to read the more than 2000 pages of text that this blog now contains. It also of course provides further evidence of how the hard earned monies of many parishioners are being mis-used by Miscavige and his cult, in grotesque violation of IRS regulations concerning tax exempt “churches.”
The following is the conclusion of the interview that Editor in Chief of the Village Voice conducted with Janet Reitman, author of the new book Inside Scientology:
If the celebrities are being more cautious, it’s fascinating to see the new “Independent Scientology” movement flourishing as former high-level members like Marty Rathbun rebel against Miscavige’s rule.
“Scientology is a very doctrinaire church, way beyond Catholicism. I mean a really all-encompassing, all-demanding, highly judgmental, cripplingly controlling, organization. And these Independents are saying, ‘Fuck the organization, we’re just going to go do this on our own, we’re going to pay a lot less money for it because really, this stuff should be free. And we’re going to live better lives.
“To me, that’s really religion. If you can just seek to better your life and the lives of those around you, without taking advantage of those around you, more power to you.”
Like me, Reitman is fascinated with Rathbun’s blog, where he defies Miscavige’s rule and attracts more and more Independents.
“I think Marty is so threatening to Miscavige because he’s like a Martin Luther. He’s saying, look, there’s an alternative way.”
And as for Scientology itself, under Miscavige?
“I think they’re going to have to change or die.”
I have never spoken Janet Reitman. She came to these conclusions upon interviewing dozens of Scientologists, in and out of the church, and investigating the subject for two years. The full interview can be found at:
I recently recognized that the Independent Movement has reached a major, stable Milestone.
Some background is in order. Several Corporate Scientology networks (OSA, Snr HCO, etc) have spend unprecedented treasure and resources over the past two years attempting to undermine and cripple the TRUTH that is the Independent Movement.
First and foremost in Miscavige’s arsenal has been the DISCONNECT card, buttressed by a small army of OSA Intelligence agents and forest-destroying tomes of “dead agent” (discredit and third party) material aimed at Independents.
Over the past two years every slightest disagreement between Independents has been mercilessly trounced upon by OSA agents in attempts to drive wedges, alloy affinities, corrupt loyalties and turn brother against brother and sister against sister.
It dawned on me just this week how we have overcome this orchastrated assault upon our friendships. I recognized it when I got in comm with folk I was started this trek out with. Folk who have gone their own directions. Some of them I think believe I am bat shit crazy for continuing to defend L Ron Hubbard and practice Scientology. Some of them think I am dead wrong to continue to openly defy and call out Miscavology for corrupting LRH’s legacy as they believe that only brings more heat upon the outside, independent practice of Scientology. Some of them I believe are irresponsible for giving Miscavige and company a pass, and some of them I am sincerely sad for, for having forsaken what I consider a workable technology.
Regardless, all of them clearly consider me a friend till the end, and the feeling is mutual. Through all the bullshit third party campaigns, the three dozen or so anti-Independent websites, the dozens of agents sent in to disrupt and disaffect – our affinity and respect has only increased.
It dawned on me that TARGET ONE has been achieved with flying colors. Disconnect has been rendered ineffective, nay, been converted into a strengthening agent in the bonds of friendship.
Sincerely, to each and every one of you who has not permitted your affinity to be alloyed through all this, my heartfelt thanks. To every one of you who chose not to turn on a friend, who despite fundamental disagreements decided to see the good in your fellows, who wouldn’t listen to third party and propaganda about people of good will, who helped when a friend said “hey, I need help”, God bless you. It is people like you who make the world go round.
To all you all, from Khalil Gibran:
And a youth said, Speak to us of Friendship.
And he answered, saying:
Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.
When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the “nay” in your own mind, nor do you withhold the “ay.” And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart; For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.
When you part from your friend, you grieve not; For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit. For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.
And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in the the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and the sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds morning and is refreshed.
In late 2003 David Miscavige shared with Interntional Managers of Scientology (Watchdog Committee, International Management Exec Committee, and related staff) one of the endless supply of alleged unpublished L Ron Hubbard writings he alone possessed by virtue of his “tunnels” of LRH archives (see, https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2011/04/01/miscaviges-new-shock-squads/)
Of course Miscavige did not produce any document. As was his wont and privilege, he simply said that the document existed. Miscavige was addressing a room full of people who had devoted their entire adult lives for the Scientology religion. They had for the most part forsaken family, friends, and all connection to the world outside the razor wire fenced Int Base compound. They had gone several weeks holed up at Int Headquarters, which consisted of makeshift offices constructed within the confines of a couple of double-wide trailers. They had very little sleep and irregular food over that several week period. They had been beaten and hazed mercilessly by Miscavige, then by others within the group who were encouraged to do the same to one another by Miscavige. Miscavige was whining and sneering about how these international managers were acting lifeless, unresponsive to his dictates, and acting in what he termed an apathetic fashion.
Miscavige told the assembled that he was sickened by their lethargy and berated them for “non-compliance” with his grandiose plans to take over the planet. Miscavige told the managers that L Ron Hubbard had written a prediction for how long planet earth had left; after which it would exist no more. He did not say what cataclysm would end life as we know it – but stated definitively L Ron Hubbard said the planet would be no more by a date certain.
As the managers somehow mustered enough energy to pay attention through glassy eyes, Miscavige contemptuously stabbed, “oh, now I’ve got the attention of you dbs (degraded beings).
“You want to know how long LRH said you’ve got?”, he asked in a tech-film worthy take on the tone level of Hate.
In answer to his own question he said, “it is a lot sooner than you think.”
And with that suppressive END OF DAYS pronunciamento, Miscavige turned on his heels and left the room with a loud, angry stomp.
To me, this incident (one of many in which Miscavige invoked unpublished alleged utterances of LRH) sheds light on how the church of Scientology is incapable of reform, and how its devoted members can continue to act in such ignorant, arrogant, and insane fashions.
It also highlights just how REVERSED the subject has become.
Scientology is predicated upon the principle of workability, and use of that which is workable to evolve humanity to higher states. And that is where its power and worth lies. It is what sets it apart from so many other religions, isms, and ologies – it is not predicated on forcing revolution through fear; it is predicated upon facilitating evolution through understanding.
What we have been witnessing is Miscavige converting the latter to the former.
Let’s look at the Wikipedia definition of End of Days:
The End Time, End Times, or End of Days is a time period described in the eschatological writings in the three Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and in doomsday scenarios in various other non-Abrahamic religions. In Christianity, the End Times are often depicted as a time of tribulation that precedes the Second Coming of the Christian “saviour” or a “hoped-for deliverer”, Jesus, the Christian Messiah, who will usher in the fullness of the World to Come and Kingdom of God and bring an end to suffering and evil and all things wrong with the current world. In Islam, Yawm al-Qiyāmah “the Day of Resurrection” or Yawm ad-Din “the Day of Judgement”, Allah’s final assessment of humanity, is preceded by the end of the world. In Judaism the term “End of Days” is a reference to the Messianic era and the Jewish belief in the coming of Mashiach and the Olam Haba. Various other religions also have eschatological beliefs associated with turning and redemption.
Since the advent of modern science in the 18th century, the discovery of deep time, and the age of the Earth, the concept of an “End of Days” has been replaced in contemporary discourse with questions about the ultimate fate of the universe. Most scientists believe that the “end time” will finally one day occur hundreds of billions of years from now with the heat death of the universe.
For those who have studied and applied much Scientology, no long string of quotations and references is required to demonstrate how the End Of Days concept is anathema to the subject of Scientology.
And I don’t think it necessary to paint a picture of how inculcation of such notions could be destructive of everything Scientology has to offer.
I publish this post simply to indicate some relevant information to help people think with the conundrum, “how could people act so narrow-mindedly, bigoted, and insane in the name of a subject so effective in handling narrow-mindedness, bigotry and insanity?”
Mosey and I took a long drive across the South Texas plains yesterday to get some space and watch the wild flowers bloom. She had a very interesting take on the three-blog “debate” over the past couple days on the subject of OT abilities. Her introduction to Scientology had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with any representations or hopes of attaining “OT abilities.” She originated getting some auditing in hopes of getting a little bit of what I had, whatever it was she saw I had. Shortly into it she saw that it was bringing her closer to taking a peek behind a curtain that she just knew must remain closed, because she just knew that whatever was behind it was formidable, foreboding, and scarier than all hell. After a little more auditing, she began to peek, and after some more began to look a little more, and after some more decided to tear the curtains down altogether. Voila, the monkey on her back that had been terrorizing her all her life as-is’d (disappeared). The clouds parted, the sun shone, and lo and behold, happiness and being became effortless. According to her, never in her wildest dreams was such a feat possible. Ever since, we rarely use phones or texts to communicate, even though we spent ten hours physically apart most weekdays since. And we’re in about as good comm as any two people could be expected to be. The less we try to label it or promote it the more it seems to manifest.
When Monique asked me what Scientology was initially I think I explained it with about the same few sentences I did when Anderson Cooper – and others since – asked the same question. Something like this: You ever hear the U2 song Stuck In a Moment? Goes something like this, “you’ve got to get yourself together, you got stuck in a moment and now you can’t get out of it.” Does that resonate with you? Well, Scientology is a pretty simple and effective method of getting you unstuck from those moments. And to me, that is the simplicity of it.
What that process leads to is as varied as the billions of personalities who inhabit this planet. From my experience in applying it, one thing can be said about just about everyone I’ve applied it to: wherever they were at when they started they ultimately felt like they had moved on up a little higher.
The moral of this story? From my perspective it is this. What do claims, representations, and promises have to do with it? Not a blessed thing. Just like any other life endeavor, if you reach for it you might achieve it. What is it? It is whatever you consider it to be and whatever you consequently discover it to be. If you see it in another, maybe you’ll try what that other did to achieve it. If you enjoy pursuing it, and you achieve a little higher ground while doing so perhaps you’ll continue pursuing it. And maybe one day you’ll find it. Or maybe you’ll just get a kick out of, or continue to move on up a little higher, trying.
