Labyrinth or Liberty?

Hello,

My name is Joanna Cook, I am 25 years old. I grew up in Scientology, claimed it as my own when I was 16, joined the Sea Org shortly thereafter, found out I was unqualified, and worked from 16-24 trying to find my identity now that I could not be in the Sea Org. I volunteered with The Way To Happiness, the Volunteer Ministers, Criminon, a few OT Committees (OTCs), and finally worked for three years as a volunteer for Latin America or LATAM (defined as Mexico, Central America and South America) side-by-side with my mom, Mary Jo Leavitt [the LATAM IC], as her co-Stats IC, PR IC and, for one and a half years as the Compliance Reports IC, whereupon we (and the 9 OTCs across LATAM) worked in tandem to achieve the first – and as I understand it, only – “continent” in the world to complete the entire program! Because we didn’t make the OTCs fit the program, but rather validated what they were already doing right that fulfilled the purpose of the program, we obtained awesome, magical expansion and joy across the entire zone. It was the most beautiful experience I had ever had; I loved every person I worked with, and this ideal world promised in events seemed actually possible. But right at that high point, everything changed, and I went from being the most gung-ho person I knew (and one of the most gung-ho public as recognized by a huge stack of commendations) to a public utterly disaffected with Management.

So what the heck happened? Apparently, the OSA line to others is that my mom suddenly sprung a weird something-something and turned into a Suppressive Person (an “SP”, in the same class as Hitler) and corrupted me, too, which is so ridiculous that I was grateful for the people that disconnected from us, because they proved to have never been friends in the first place. Never mind that the Cont. Justice Chief told me my mother was not declared when I asked about it, yet I’ve been rumor-declared for failing to disconnect from my mom on a rumor. (That’s another story for another time.)

Actually, I had been disaffected momentarily here and there since 16, with my experiences in the EPF and various inconsistencies (between what things should have been and what they actually were) during my volunteering experiences. But every time I either wrote it up or brushed it off and assigned myself conditions, tried to figure out what I was failing to take responsibility for, etc. I thought maybe they were isolated incidences. I was also off for a year after some bad auditing, Clear-not-Clear, etc. But I “got over” all that.

In a nutshell, the straw that broke the camel’s back was my volunteer work with LATAM, because it proved these were not isolated incidences; I discovered that the people I was working with and loved got crushed because they refused to fundraise and simply wanted to disseminate, and this happened across an entire continent causing our zone to go from Power to Non-Existence in the space of a few months. After two years of trying to fix it internally, it just got worse. I was completely devastated that no one in Management actually gave a hoot about the people; they only wanted the money and the buildings. A series of situations (all covered in the reports of Mary Jo Leavitt) brought me to the conclusion that this was not the organization I signed up for, and I quit.

(note: those reports can be found at: https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2009/10/12/new-ot-viii-mary-jo-leavitt-blows-the-whistle/

https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2010/01/06/new-ot-viis-in-st-pete-times/ )

It was painful, because it momentarily divorced me from a huge part of my identity and for a while I wasn’t sure how to exist without it, and yet it was totally awesome, because I was finally free from a very suppressive situation.

After my mom submitted her Knowledge Report online, the DSA that “visited” her showed us a reference that stated if anyone attacked Management, they were attackers of Scientology, since Scientology and Management were the same thing. Well, in that case, the same is true on the flip side – anything Management does that draws ill will or bad repute to itself also brings ill will and bad repute to Scientology. Yet when we bring these points up, we’re spreading enemy line.

And that’s one of the issues Management/Scientology is attacked for, publicly – inconsistency. They preach universal human rights and yet their staff doesn’t get to eat or sleep until they make their quota? They are the leaders in knowledge about the human spirit but they can’t make up their mind as to what the state of Clear is or not? How come people are broke or desperate or in any way imperfect if they have all the tools to solve every problem known to mankind?

The cruel part is that Scientology, as the organization stands now, is like living in a snow globe world. It’s supposed to be perfect, but it isn’t, and the world outside is supposed to be within our reach but it isn’t.

The “ideal scene” is always beyond reach, belonging to someone outside ourselves, and nothing we can do allows us to grasp it, even for a moment. We capture fragments, promises, of it, like snowflakes that melt in our hand.

The Church has these snow globe events that promise a utopian world if only everyone had Scientology, yet we have to give up our right to our own life in order to “Clear The Planet”. Has anyone ever given a concise and definite definition to what that means? I’ve had staff intimate it means we cross the threshold of theta versus entheta on a planet-wide scale, so that it means people’s entheta gets converted Poof! with a wave of awesome theta overtaking everything. And this is achieved solely through the IAS and library campaigns (not the actual Scientology services, but promises of future services) carried on the backs of broke parishioners. So basically, it means that Clearing the Planet is making sure everyone has an abundance of theta except us, yes? Wait. Huh?

Yet we must continue forward, because the fate of the entire sector of the universe rests on each one of our shoulders. If we fail now, we’ve doomed the entire race of humans, and all thetans everywhere (even though we don’t exist in space or time) now and forever, to the worst kind of misery imaginable. Our children will grow up in a cruel, bitter world devoid of any succor, so instead they should join the Sea Org and given to a life of “service”. But it’s okay, because they’re salvaging the universe.

And yet we can’t progress on the Bridge; instead of the glorious golden contraption leading us out of darkness to the rich and bountiful place of Total Freedom, we have a strange tangle of wooden planks and rope that becomes a labyrinth halfway across the chasm with a recurring return to this place called Clear. If we manage to escape out of the labyrinth, we’re struck by lightning before we can take the next step across, and if we survive that, we discover the world at the end is another snow globe – a place that is promised, supposed to be perfect, yet just out of our reach – that will only happen if the ones who finally escaped the labyrinth can convince everyone else to cross the chasm.

And no matter how much we take a sledge hammer to the glass of our snow globe, bang our heads against it, consult auditors and ethics officers and even chaplains to understand why the glass won’t crack, it’s indestructible. That world that is supposed to be ours can never be ours, and it’s all our own individual fault we can’t attain it, and because of our individual failure, we’ve screwed it up for everyone else. It’s premeditated, and designed to drive people insane. And yet it’s called Scientology.

People are in quite a conundrum. Here they are, in the middle of a chasm, and the world they’re trying to leave behind was awful – it had fears, insecurities, needless doubts and pain and hopelessness, and yet the price to attain the perfect world free of all that is creating a constant state of those things. Then, they’ve got their whole family or their children or someone they love entangled in this mess and they can’t move back without them, yet they can’t move forward, and they’re stuck in this labyrinth that is slowly eating them alive or sapping them of sanity, and the fact that they feel anything negative at all is entirely their fault, or the fault of strange beings or past incidences or otherworldly phenomena that can only be solved by moving forward.

Yet anytime they think it might be possible to actually move forward, there’s punishment in the shadows of their hope, and after a while they instinctively will hold themselves back from hoping, or from trying, and that again is cause for punishment.

In essence, the game where everyone wins is now the hell where everyone loses. Even the snow globe ideal orgs, in their perfect buildings with the perfect renovations, are built on musical chairs (swiping staff from other places), extortion, in locations that are unwise, or for orgs that were financially struggling to begin with, or based in countries under tyranny… they are supposed to be perfect, but something about them just isn’t. And people who are aware, who are supposed to be the public we seek, will know it, and instinctively they’ll stay away. Meanwhile, the org itself will be destroyed because the multiple policies protecting it have been utterly violated, and its destruction will be the fault of the public and the staff who were supposed to make it go right.

This organization that calls itself Scientology has made a premeditated effort to lock each dynamic into Scientology, at the exclusion of any other entity. For instance, the 8th dynamic is apparently only understood when you have a total grasp of the 7th, which you can’t fully understand until you’ve reached the top of the Bridge. The 6th dynamic (which is constantly at war with us) can only be conquered through Scientology. The 5th can only be salvaged from nuclear war if we Clear the Planet. We’re supposed to Clear the Planet even though “Wogs” can’t or won’t read (like they used to, they need video explanations now or they won’t get it), can’t understand basic ideas without studying 18 volumes and numerous lectures, are drug addicts, 1.1, and generally not to be trusted. Seriously, they are rather pitiful creatures when compared to us Homo Novises. They have case that sprouts off, they compare Scientology to all these other awful and weird practices, and psychiatrists everywhere have convinced them they need psychiatric drugs when all they need is Dianetics. (Plus O/Ws, Sec-Checking, donations, attendance at events, Evil purpose checks, oh we’re not supposed to mention that; Dianetics solves everything, per our patter when we do the stress tests.) And groups! My gosh, imagine trying to find a decent group outside of Scientology. What with all the people below 2.0 and faulty/inefficient technology, and ignorance on how to run a business or get along with others… so it’s better finding work and friends amongst people who understand, and can do proper admin scales, conditions, etc. Then there’s the family, which of course can only be whole and happy if Scientology is being applied. We have marriage counseling, life repair for the wayward kiddies, ethics officers standing by, and staff positions available so no one has to go to college to get a worthwhile job. Not that anyone would want to waste time with college anyway. Any friends, relatives, etc. not Scientologists are advised to become Scientologists as soon as possible. And as for the first dynamic, well, that’s not important in the scheme of things, is it? Necessity level demands we do what is the greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics, and only by consistently acting along those lines and acting as a 3.5+ on the Tone Scale can one ever have any real happiness at all.

Naturally, the greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics means what is best for the largest number of nameless faces that will benefit by our campaigns to Clear the Planet. Savings, what’s that? What’s the point in holding out for a rainy day when the fate of the world is in our hands right now? My Golly, don’t you know we’re already too late? The Big Man has his finger on the Big Red Button in this very instant, and the psyches are all but ready to take over government and all the schools, and only the IAS and the library campaign can save the day. You don’t see the connection, you say? Off with your head! I mean, over to Ethics for you.

So one day you’ve had enough, and decide you want to walk away, but you can’t. You have no choice. Exactly, it’s called Blackmail. If you leave, you lose your family, your work, your group, your only chance at salvation, your reputation, you’ve probably already lost your house, but worst of all, you lose your identity. This is who you are, now, and it’s everything you are, so it has to be okay. Things will work out. Ron promised it would in his When You Need Reassurance. So if we just hold out a little longer…

And one by one the things that were important, that made everything worthwhile, fade away, and we free-fall in our chasm, trapped in a fractured snow globe world that’s left us so we can’t reach at all; there’s nothing left to reach for. It’s the ultimate betrayal in the name of help, the one thing this wasn’t supposed to be, not this time. Some people could shatter upon this realization, and close themselves up into a tiny little box way deep inside themselves, and pretend that just because they’re still breathing it means they’re still alive; or they can go into a fit of rage; or they figure they can commit suicide; or they can walk away. Sometimes we go through shades of all these stages.

But the amazing thing is that there is a beautiful world out here waiting for us, and it isn’t separated by titanium bulletproof glass. Identities that are our own, dreams, goals, friendship, family, joy, teammanship, help, exquisite moments, are all possible and graspable and they can be yours. No scarcity. No strings attached.

It’s an interesting journey reclaiming life after it’s been molded into a shadow of what life can be, and after the shackles of what can or should exist are broken and cast aside. There’s a whole world full of awesome and friendly people, of fascinating philosophies and ideas, of life and nature experiences to be had, welcoming you with open arms — yet these things were only supposed to exist in the confines of Scientology… it has to be experienced to be believed.

For me, it makes the painful parts worth it, because at least – at last – the pain becomes transient, and the lying doesn’t have to be a necessary part of living, and prosperity, joy, unfettered existence, becomes real.

I can keep what for me is good about the philosophy, and use it as I want to, and when I want to, and my life is finally mine to live.

I want others to enjoy the gains I’ve had, and I can finally say that without the little voice in the back of my head saying, “Gains, sure, but would I want anyone to have the experience that I’ve had? No!” Being half-in and half-out is awful; I lived that for 18 months. True, I had less to lose than many still “in”: I never accepted the derogatory term “wog” and had lots of friends and family not in Scientology; my family all called it quits individually; I had no boyfriend, children, relatives in the S.O.; my job was secure; and even though things were hard for a while and there were growing pains after leaving, I would do it all again. All the painful experiences over the past year, summed up, still doesn’t come close to one week of being in that organization, not able to communicate openly, fruitlessly trying to fix things, ramming against that snow globe glass, trying to understand what was wrong with me that I couldn’t grasp. That was true pain.

I want all my friends, and my comrades, to be free of that. You deserve a beautiful, rich, full life. I hope you can hold it in your hands, and know that everyone you love can hold it, too.

Sincerely,
Joanna Cook

Daniel Montalvo – the latest

Daniel expresses his gratitude

Since escaping unscathed at the Sunset Blvd cafe, see https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2010/10/09/montalvo-update-the-wild-wild-west/, Daniel has been enjoying his stay with a family that has accepted him and treated him as their own.  Realize that Daniel lived in the Sea Org from the age of four until the age of nineteen, never really experiencing what family is all about. In this time of crises, he is rapidly learning the true value and meaning of family.

Daniel was quite touched by your outpouring of concern, care, and genorsity.  He asked me to try to convey that to you all.  But, I don’t know whether words can really do the trick.  He is in awe of what you did.

Daniel is now represented by one of Los Angeles’ more accomplished lawyers, John Duran.   You can read about Mr. Duran here to get the idea, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Duran.    I believe, and more importantly Daniel believes, Mr. Duran has Daniel’s best interests at heart and  has the skill and wisdom necessary to help remove the dark clouds of two legal attacks (the larceny and the domestic matter) mounted by the Corporate church.

The fact that you all doubled the targeted retainer amount made this quality of representation possible. Thank you very much.

Here is the promised accounting of the Free Daniel Montalvo Fund:

Contributions: (150 contributors)                                             $13,150.30*

*after 3% Paypal handling fees and new Fund account set up charge

Disbursements:

Duran and Thomas (retainer for Daniel Montalvo matters)             $10,000.00

Tiziano Lugli  (re-imbursement for bail)                                                   $ 2,000.00

Marty Rathbun (re-imbursement for Daniel’s LA-Tpa airfare)      $      425.40

Daniel Montalvo                                                                                                  $      500.00*

*for living costs (note that the family is covering virtually everything, but several of you noted you wanted to get some cash into Daniel’s hands to use as he sees fit).

Balance:                                                                                                                          $224.90*

*to remain open pending both of Daniel’s legal matters being satisfactorily terminated.

If any contributor has any objection to these disbursements please email me at howdoesitfeel@hushmail.com for a refund.  Include your name and the amount contributed.

It is my view that it is best that  we let Daniel’s counsel go about disposing of these unconsionable attacks with as little noise and distraction as possible.  We will know soon enough if the fix is on. If it proves to be, I’ll be the first one on the ramparts hollering for volunteers.

Thanks again to everybody.  The level of competence, speed and support demonstrated for this rescue and defense operation against the  Corporate Scientology empire is absolutely unprecedented.  Don’t ever forget the role you played, and are continuing to play, in it.

Warning: May be shocking for some, but it is one major reason we are here

How is this for a shocking graphic to start a post?  It’s my creation…. well, mostly. I stole it from CCHR.  It’s here for shock value, so don’t take it too seriously, okay?

Approximately 9 months ago (or so — I’m bad with time, so take that for what it is worth), I approached Marty about writing an entry for his blog.  My angle?   Simple — hardcore critic — the guy who did the $cientology-KILLS website and T-shirts with OT-III, supports independant Scientologists.   Not the most earth shattering headline, I must confess.

I haven’t been active protesting Scientology in over a decade.  They were downright vicious when it came to shutting me down. I received the personal attentions of Dave Lubow.  What did they dig up on me?  Bounced checks and bad credit, basically. Having gone through a divorce over the years preceeding my activism, and being young, dumb, wildly irresponsible, and willing to waste a large percentage of my income to do things like …make t-shirts to give away or sell (at a loss! despite the Church’s PR that I profited wildly), probably made me an easy target.  Lubow even called my mother!   The man is truly a turd.  Sorry.

At the time, I also confessed to being Scamizdat (blogger note: maybe Mike can explain this, but I vaguely recall Scamizdat posted some upper level material and we tried to crush a harsh DM critic Grady Ward through civil litigation as the poster), as part of the Grady Ward case.  Even after going through deposition with Helena Kobrin (who still owes me muffins) and Eric Leiberman, they declined to accept my confession and still pushed forward against Grady.  Granted, my confession wasn’t enough for them to pin specific acts on me.  But I cost them tremendous amounts of money, and greatly enjoyed the telephone updates to DM throughout the deposition.  These updates were done in a room next door to the Deposition room, and hysterically, they didn’t realize that there was basically a window between the two rooms.  The “window” allowed myself, Grady and the transcriptionist unfettered audio access to their calls.

It was funny, but at the time I failed to realize the significance.  That they would call DM (or perhaps it was even Marty on the other end!) (blogger note: wasn’t me, was it you Mike?) in response to a depo of some little guy who just had the stupidity/courage/something to stand up and say, “I am Spartacus!”

After the major Lisa McPherson protest in Clearwater — the protest where I met Bob Minton — the protest that I recruited Lawrence Wollersheim to join us on — the protest where I first met Dave Lubow (I’m such a name dropper!), I had Co-Organized the Boulder Colorado Protest.  The Boulder protests generated enough noise that they flew in Sylvia Stanard and Joe Neal (or O’Neal?) and some gal from Portland to handle me and mine.

Great protest…We got Wollersheim and Bob Penny to protest side-by-side while Denver DSA Deb Danos held a sign saying “Wollersheim Used Penny.”

All in all, things went well.

During the protest there was an interesting exchange that I documented afterwards in an internet post which you can find here:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.religion.scientology/browse_thread/thread/6c4713c07f4c6dd8/14d28739143eaa78?hl (blogger note: contains reference to OT III data)

The whole thread is worth reading.

It went basically like this…  Joe Neal (O’Neal, I guess) confronted me during the protest and pointed to one of our fellow picketers (who had dressed up as the alien “Xenu”) and made the statement, “That is Bigotry”.

I raised it as an issue then, and the moment never left me.   Was it bigotry?   Maybe.

Whether it was a fair point or not that Joe raised that day is really beside the point.   What followed is what makes that exchange particularly interesting.

See, I started to ponder where the line between protest, complaint and bigotry was.   I wondered, to myself, if a scientology reformation were to occur, do I so hate the ideas that I couldn’t tolerate it?  Or do I mean what I say?   Would I tolerate a kinder, gentler scientology?

The years passed…  Lubow did his thing and shut me up.  Kobrin traded removal of my name from the churches blackPR pages for my scientology-kills.net domain. An action I still feel no small amount of shame for.  Although I should point out that the church did not uphold its side of the domain-name bargain.  I demanded poppy seed muffins, I was promised poppy-seed muffins… I never received them.  Criminals.

So, as I said, redundantly, a decade passed.  I did my own thing.  I caught glimpses of the “anonymous” uprising here and there in the news, and then Marty…   I found Marty’s page.    See, Marty was of particular interest to me in the last months of being a critic. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.  The man had left!   He was, from my limited understanding, the man behind the curtain on so many things.  I knew he was important, other critics knew he was important, but he was an enigma to me, just the same.

Here he is… blogging.

So I have been reading.  I still find much of the “tech” repugnant to reason and science. But in the past year I have been reading Marty’s Blog and there’s this nagging question in the back of my head.   It’s really Joe Neal’s question… or maybe not, but at least owes its roots to Joe’s question….

It is, “Is this a brand of Scientology that I can co-exist with?”.

It is, to me, proof that although my actions might have said “bigotry” in the past, that my mind and heart were not working from a place of bigotry at all.  In the end, I am not blind.

If Marty is Honest — and I have no reason to think otherwise — This is a Scientology that I can peacefully and happily co-exist with.  I am not arrogant enough to believe that you all NEED my validation.  But I wanted to give it anyway.

Marty?  If you back off of it one inch…  I will be here to protest you.

I wish all of you, everyone…. the best of luck in saving your religion.  You have my support.

Buildings and the Founder

A couple years ago Bill Mahr did a very interesting and entertaining documentary on religion called Religulous.  Readers of this blog forwarded me  short excerpts from Religulous that show some interesting parallels between the church of Scientology and the Roman Catholic church.  Might make for some lively and enlightening discussion.

Mark McKinstry – Another Dissemination Genius Arises from the Ashes

Some of you may know me. My name is Mark McKinstry.

I did my first Scientology service in October 1975 at the Davis Mission, while a student at the University of California. I joined staff a few months later. My staff experience has been primarily on dissemination lines:

  • I was part of the Davis Mission Division VI, which was one of the largest on the planet at the time.
  • I worked at both the Guardians Office Worldwide and Mission Office Worldwide when they were headquartered at St. Hill for 7 years. 1977-1982
  • I was a partner in Latch Management Services, a group that pioneered WISE consulting and dissemination to professionals, starting with Chiropractors. Sterling Management was an offshoot from this group. At one point our combined clients made up 25% of FSO GI weekly. Something WISE groups had never before accomplished. 1982 – 1987
  • I joined the Sea Org in 1988. I held the post of National Sales Manager at Bridge Publications for 17 years and personally got orders for over 14 million LRH books (fiction and non-fiction).

I routed out of the Sea Org in 2007 and have been quietly off the lines since.

I am speaking up now.

For the most part, I was a productive and loyal staff member. My posts kept me on external lines for the most part. I worked directly with Author Services on Fiction lines and Central Marketing/GOLD on the non-fiction campaigns. My job was primarily to help create and present our Marketing and PR campaigns to major retailers like Barnes & Noble, Borders or Walmart and get them to order LRH books and set up promotions in their stores to display and advertise them. I also closed publishers in South America to publish LRH books in their countries. I established the Bridge office in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

As part of this post, I would go to the Int Base for meetings with Central Marketing staff and executives over these areas.

MY INTRODUCTION TO DM

In 1997, there was a plan to create a Scientology marketing campaign, similar to what had been done with Dianetics in the 80’s. The initial book to be “re-released” was SCIENTOLOGY: A NEW SLANT ON LIFE.

The advertising vehicle for NSOL was a TV campaign called GREAT LIES. You may remember it. A psychiatrist holding a brain, yelling “you are just a brain”. Needless to say, this campaign was not well received by my buyers and by the release date of the book, we had gotten orders for around 70,000 copies.

I was ordered to Int along with my Project Ops Don Arnow and after being put on the meter to find my crimes in front of WDC and IMEC, was given the ultimatum by COB that we either make a target of 250,000 books ordered by release or get kicked out of the Sea Org.

Being kicked out to the Sea Org meant the end of my career, my marriage, 22 years of work. This was the ethics gradient for non-compliance to a COB order. A destructive order at that.

If we were to make the 250,000 target and the books ordered did not “sell-through” to the consumer in 6-8 weeks, the books would then be destroyed and our relationships with the buyers who bought those books severely damaged. These consequences were known, but as COB had ordered it, so nobody questioned it.

Don and I with the help of some select CMU staff, put together a PR campaign video (riding on the publicity that John Travolta had been getting with Pulp Fiction) and used this to get orders for 270,000 books. To get this many books ordered at release meant books in every bookstore, airport, Walmart, and many grocery stores in America that sold books. We went to 40 states to do this, mostly by car.

The TV campaign was the bust that the buyers had initially predicted. Over 95% of the books were destroyed by the accounts after they failed to sell in the first two months.

We both were highly commended by COB for making the “do or die” target, had our ethics files cancelled, but severely damaged our goodwill with accounts. It was no victory for me.

Following the 911 attacks, I was attending the Frankfurt book fair in October and got word to return home ASAP I had received an order from COB to get 20 Dianetics books into every store in the U.S. on an immediate basis.

The facts were that 20 books per store, at the rate that stores had been selling Dianetics, would have been a seven-year supply per store. There was no marketing campaign, just the fact of 9/11and COB’s idea that this would increase demand for self-help books.

I proposed a plan that would gradually increase the stock in stores to 20 per store over a six month period, as we created demand for the books as there had been no Dianetics marketing being done for years. This was rejected and the “do or die” order stood.

This time, the “gun to the head of the salesman” did not work. I could not pass the “disagreement check” in order to fire on this sales trip. Others went in my place (and got no orders from any account). Some time later, I was labeled a “stat crasher” and sent to the Pac RPF.

It was there that I met almost 100 SO vets who had been offloaded from the Int base by orders of COB. Each one with the r-factor that they would be declared if they routed out.

I won’t fully recount here what the PAC RPF is like. At best it is a gulag where time stands still. The only thing that makes it bearable are the some of the dedicated staff there. Some had been on the program for seven years or more. That is seven years without a day off, no contact with wife or family, no music, twenty-minute meal breaks. A phone call to your parent’s on Christmas day. A day otherwise spent cleaning floors and toilets. For the most part the RPF is kept hidden from the public and staff. For the most part, we helped build sets for the Int events and furniture for the “Ideal Orgs”.

At one point, following an IAS event, the RPF was allowed to watch the video of the event where Tom Cruise receives the IAS medal and is proclaimed by DM as “the most dedicated Scientologist I know”. I looked over at the guy sitting next to me, a man who had worked on the ship with LRH, had been an SO member for over 25 years, who had been on the RPF for 6 years separated from his wife and family. Really? An actor who has been actively disseminating for a couple of years is the most dedicated Scientologist on the planet?

I finished the RPF program in 2.5 years (a relatively fast completion time) and returned to Bridge Publications. The trade lines (dissemination to raw public) were now completely dead. The national bookstore accounts had not even been visited in my absence. All the attention and effort was on setting up the Bridge manufacturing lines, repackaging the books and more sales to Scientologists (existing public). The HCOPL PROPORTIONATE MARKETING outlines how marketing should be done, with the majority going to raw public campaigns. The exact opposite of what is occurring.

The staff who had made some progress in the 80’s on raw public dissemination were for the most part either RPFed or declared. Most of these people were my close friends that I had worked with “in the trenches”: Ronnie Miscavige, Bill Dendiu, Fred Harris, Steve Hall, Jeff Hawkins, Gabrielle Allen, Phil Anderson, Yael Sherlock. Most declared Suppressive Persons. How could that be?

As an S.O. member not at the Int base, you would never know that they had been declared. They would just disappear off the lines with no mention of what had occurred. The only way I knew that Bill Dendiu was out of the S.O. was I met him at LAX on the way back from Brazil. Someone that I had worked with for almost 20 years.

WHY I AM SPEAKING OUT

When I heard that Mike Rinder had blown, I began searching the internet to see if I could find some trace of him. I had not worked much with Mike directly, but we were involved in many of the same campaigns. At one point when I was being “investigated” I got word that Mike had stood up for me at a meeting at Int. You never forget something like that.

Everyone is your friend when you get commended by COB. But your real friends are those who stand up for you, when it is not popular to do so. It is so easy to find fault with another staff member, much harder to defend them, because in this environment you open yourself the to charge of having mutual overts or in some way defying “command intention”.

What Marty and Mike write on this site is true. It is the only vehicle that I know of that fills the vacuum as to what has been going on. It is information that few Sea Org members and Scientologists are privy to. S.O. members are denied access to the internet for the most part, with filters to keep them from seeing sites like this.

To see Freedom Magazine come out with its “investigation” on ex-S.O. Really? Freedom magazine? There aren’t 4th dynamic abuses worth exposing? We need to convince everyone that anyone who dares to have a contrary opinion is open to have 25 years of service pilloried? I don’t agree.

The reason that people have to go outside the Church to make themselves heard is obvious. The “Emperor’s New Clothes” is in effect full time internally. Who is going to question DM, let alone depose him?

I support Mike and Marty in getting the truth made know so that it can be dealt with before the resources of Scientology are consumed in defending David Miscavige at all costs. Because if enough people don’t wake up internally as to what is going on, eventually the handling will be done externally.

In making this statement, I will be cut off from friends who are “in good standing” with the Church. Or declared. So be it.

If it is one less day that Heber or others have to stay “in the hole”, or the RPF, it is worth it.

Stat Analysis of a Dead Radical church

I have commented before that LRH admin technology has long since been banned in Miscavige’s church.   Only in the independent field are those breakthroughs currently in use.  The core of LRH management tech is the multiple viewpoint system.  It is only possible where independent, uncooked, unaltered data is provided from many different viewpoints of the current scene.  For several months now, we have for the first time in decades made that possible with respect to Scientology. Thanks to Steve Hall, Jeff Hawkins, Amy Scobee, Marc Headley,  many other whistleblowers, bloggers and web site and forum operators; and all of YOU contributors.  Only here are we free to utilize Data Series Evaluator technology.  And only here do we pay heed to honest statistic analysis.

With inexorable promptitude (phrase borrowed from early eighties LRH ED tape) Samuel  submitted an enlightening stat analysis.  On the weekend when corporate Scientologists are being plied with false stats, false claims, and false braggadocio of the International Association of Shills annual implant, our own Samuel provided us with a verifiable statistical analysis of the state of Scientology.   Witness the Phoenix. Here it is for your review:

Madness from Coast to Coast – the Mosquitoes

Well, 36 hours after Daniel’s departure from Tiziano and Jamie’s,  six full time PIs still have the place under surveillance.     $30,000 to $50,000 spent per day, conservative estimate, in an attempt to cave in this couple.  Product?  $30,000 to $50,000 a day wasted, and their image as a radical, bullying cult more firmly etched in the public mind.

All the while, Lil’ Dave Lebow has been in Clearwater orchestrating full-time harrassment against Mike Rinder.

Some people have expressed to me the concern that my graphic reporting of the Radical Scientology Cult PI hijinks might tend to back off people who would otherwise step forward to help in the cause.  That may be so.  But, those who consider backing off ought to know that we are beginning to expererience a major tipping point that I suggested several months ago that we might see sooner or later. That is, when enough people stand up to the bullying rather than do what Miscavige intends the targets of his harassment to do – that is, shrink and crawl quietly into darkness – the in terorrem effect will, once and for all, be lost.  Remember, Miscavige has two missiles in his arsenal. One, intimidation with seemingly unlmited chutzpah and money in order to wear one down to the attitude of “it is not worth it any more.”  Two, when “one” has had its intended effect, use seemingly unlimited funds to either a) make the legal and PR trouble he has created with this over-the-top intimidation tactics go away, or b) throw the target a bone to settle and go away quietly.   I also said from the beginning that breaking the mafia-like monopoly of terror Miscavige runs is inevitable because we are a new breed of cat.  We are immune to both missiles in his arsenal.  We just ain’t afraid, and we are not buyable at any price.

With Radical Scientology PI’s swarming like mosquitos a few helpful tips are in order.

If you get messed with by the PI’s, realize that objective number one for OSA/Miscavige is to get into your head.  Did you know that when you scratch the itch after a mosquito bites, you exacerbate the problem by spreading its deposited poison?  If you can withstand the first few impulses to scratch, the itch will go away.

So, rule one is to not let them bother you.

However, this is not so workable when you are subjected to swarms of hungry mosquitoes. In that case, it will behoove you to swat the little peckers before they insert their blood suckers into your skin.  The key to this second rule, is don’t get frazzled. Do it sytematically, and calmly and you are liable to prevent much penetration. If it persists, you might want to fog or spray your area – treat them a bit more aggressively.  But, again a calm, rational approach works best.

If the mosquitoes persist and make your home, and your person, a habitat, then you had better have your perimeter treated, perhaps by a professional.   In the case of Miscavige’s mosquitoes, law enforcement is the best mosquito guard.  Some of his better paid mosquitoes will develop a resistance to the professional mosquito guard.  But, if you continue informing your local professionals they will likely up the gradient giving you a comfortable perimeter.

Dear Leader’s favorite private investigator, David Lubow, usually slinks around in the shadows pretending to be an International Man of Mystery. Most often he is found hiding on the other end of a phone spreading Black PR.  On that score, he has always served as an accurate reflection of Miscavige’s state of mind.  Accordingly, he has been spotted of late desparately attempting to get under targets’ skin, on the streets and sidewalks engaging in overt harassment.

Here he is two days ago surveilling Mike Rinder at a restaurant in Clearwater:

Did anyone see the resemblance to a mosquito?

Here is Lebow the very next day, across the street from Mike and Christie’s home in Tarpon Springs:

As you can see, Lebow is apparently using “swarm tech”, quite ineffectively.

Mike finally calls the local exterminator because Lebow, carrying out Miscavige’s On Human Behavior PAB tech of making himself so repulsive as to offend the sensibilities of innocents in the environment (namely Mike and Christie’s neighbors).   But, not before thoroughly reversing the flow by questioning the investigator to understand and document the nature of its harassment.

Again, don’t lose sight of this fact. Miscavige’s mission is to make all of his hosts in his image. Dave Lebow is a study in the current state of mind of David Miscavige.

More on independent thought and Scientology

One of the first things I read upon my introduction to Scientology was the essay Personal Integrity (taken from a tape transcript, excerpts from which I am sure I posted many months ago).   Even though I did some very unkind and irrational things under the culture of culthood that Church “management” had morphed into, I always studied Scientology and any other subjects with the LRH advice I received initially in Personal Integrity in mind.

Now, in the cult culture Personal Integrity has been cancelled tacitly with an atomic branding iron for some time now.  Since LRH wrote and taped so many words critics can have, and still have, a field day with pointing out apparent contradictions.  And Miscavige has had a field day creating a cult by focusing solely on out of context lines that seem to justify his atrocious hatred for humanity and mission to make the TECH unworkable.

The final word by L Ron Hubbard on how to study TECH and the OEC (Policy) volumes is to assimalite it all, become adept at using it toward a POSITIVE RESULT and then after a while one will be able to simply “play the piano”  with it; that is use it naturally toward POSITIVE RESULTS without having to remember individual lines to justify or direct one’s making of music.

Miscavige has created the perfect CULT by continually violating HCO PL Tech Degrades and telling anyone who points out his off policy or out tech directions that that is “old”, “not used anymore”, or “background information.”  Whenever he gets in a bind during his mission to make the tech unworkable, and he can’t point to something out of context, he trumps it up with “advices” no one else has seen.

Jeff Hawkins and Glenn Samuels did a great service  in my view  by putting into circulation among us the concepts of thought stopping.

I believe the church of Scientology under Miscavige’s iron fist has created a flock that does thought stopping day in and day out.  If they did not, there would be no flock.

I contend that state of affairs is anathema to the philosophy of Scientology.  Below, are the words of L Ron Hubbard uttered on 30 December 1957, in support of that proposition.  To me, these words are as true today as they were the day they were originally communicated.

In the first place, in the university, they teach only those things which have already been found out. And if you teach them in such a way that nobody is permitted to think on them evermore, you, of course, will get a totally dead-ended scientific world.  Well, the reason I bring that up is because we have a text here called Scientology 8-8008, and if you people think that I have the idea — of course, I can tell you how to achieve a result with a preclear — but if you think I have an idea that nobody ever ought to think on the subject of the mind, he merely ought to read this and bow down, boy, you better change your mind. I really mean it. I really mean it.

I will scold a staff auditor from departing from known procedure occasionally. I will. But only when he didn’t get away with it. Therefore, I give you this, a definition of auditing which some of you have heard before but not all: auditing is what you can get away with…

…Now, data is something one uses to think with. It isn’t thinking.  And when the data becomes a substitute for thinking we have frozen the whole forward progress of education.  A datum is something you think with; it is not a thought.  A definition is something with which to think…

…But anything which you must not touch and upon which you are not supposed to have any effect at all will sooner or later make you the unwilling or unknowing effect of it. Right?  And if I tell you, “Under no circumstances should you alter, change, think about, Scientology” – dizzz – all I’ve done is set up another monster. Right?  And in a world that is all too prone to build Frankensteins, we don’t need another one!…

…So in processing, all we are trying to do is to free the thinkingness of the individual. It is all we are trying to do.  Therefore the goal of all processing is freedom.  We cannot improve anybody unless we free his thinkingness, we free his ability to think.

Therefore we must accustom him to associating thought with matter, thought with space, thought with time, thought with energy. Not forbid it like the mystic, not cancel it out entirely like the Tibetan, but actually, factually make it possible for him to do this without feeling he is being murdered by it.  To associate thought with matter, energy, space or time, freely and knowingly, is to bring an individual up to a point where he can be cause over matter, energy, space and time!…

…But a preclear is not cause across the boards if anywhere he’s an unwilling and unknowing effect.  Now remember, he can be the effect of anything as long as he is not an unwilling or an unknowing effect.  And that’s the one thing we mustn’t forget in Scientology.  We’re not trying to say, “Don’t ever be at effect.”  We’re saying, “if you’re at effect know what it is.”

Therefore we can disseminate Scientology; therefore, I can tell you this material without liability because you’re here by choice; I am here by choice; we’re discussing these things by choice because we are interested.

The day it becomes a vital subject that we must have a credit in, Scientology becomes a slave subject.

So I ask you, don’t ever let it happen.

Let Me Be Crystal Clear

For the potential edification of those reading with open, intelligent and curious minds and for the less-than-likely clarification for those reading and reacting with closed, arrogant and narrow minds, I offer some context to Saturday’s post, “The World Is Leaving Scientology Behind.”

That post was researched, conceived and written within one hour of my having just attested my then-pre-Clear to the state of Clear.  And I mean Crystal Clear.  A person with whom I never once discussed exchange for my services, except reluctantly when the person orginated on the subject from time to time; and those discussions never, ever put the slightest pressure nor invalidation upon the pre-Clear. A person, whose inevitable increasing sense of the rightness of things (through the conquering of the reactive mind) naturally wound up exchanging in such abundance it is indescribable.  A person who had never heard the word “Scientology” until it passed from my lips. A person who received no conditioning or programming as to organizational mores (whether  memorialized in green ink or orally created over time by a little dictator).  A person to whom it was never suggested she find a way to change her livelihood in order to find a way to contribute more energy to any “cause.”  A person to whom it was never even suggested  not to look at criticisms of the subject, the Source of the subject, or the auditor.  A person who was never encouraged to op term, investigate, “handle”, or alter communication in way, shape, fashion or form with those skeptical of her auditor or the subject she was participating in.   A person who was allowed to have her wins, test them during the week in a working environment utterly devoid of any Scientology or Scientologist influence, thereby perhaps attaining a level of personal certainty of ability that I have yet to witness in thirty years of involvement with the subject.  A person who received not one encouragement, nudge, threat or invalidation to “get to the next level” or get to Clear.  A person who on her own determinism and out of her own curiosity decided to read every LRH book and listen to every LRH public lecture on her own time during the course of her auditing.  A person who received standard tech – without a single organizational/Miscavige arbitrary entered in along the way.  A person who received thorough auditing at every grade along the way (one to two intensives per grade and five intensives of NED).  A person who now exemplifies LRH’s model in What We Expect of a Scientologist more than perhaps any other I’ve ever encountered in my three decades of involvement.

A person who is the gold standard in my view in terms of EMPATHY for her fellow human beings.

A person whom I believe would have been tragically turned into a rather unempathetic and narrow-minded person had she gone the route of the flat-earth church of Scientology machine.

Now that it quite in addition to over the past year standardly (including using LRH C/Ses that Miscavige has banned and cancelled from use to deal with the very matter) handling five people with church-arbitrary induced confusions about their Clear statuses, introducing and beginning several pre-OTs on NOTs, completing the entire NOTs program on another pre-OT,  getting several people onto and through solo OT levels, debugging several church-stalled cases, using specific rundowns to advance a number of people in life, and helping several people – antagonistic to Scientology generally – review their own history in context and recognize that which they did get from Scientology so that they could continue to walk their chosen paths no longer stuck in losses and victimhood and intent to attacking the subject and its Founder.   And all that was done while fighting off a multi-tens of millions of dollars operation to prevent all of the above from happening and destroy me personally.  I’m not asking for kudos here. That is not the point.  Instead, I am asking those who are so damn high and mighty they suggest I am suggesting Scientology lacks worth, what have you done in the last year in and with Scientology?

My hat is off to the dozens, if not hundreds, who understand that the the high-octane obsession Miscavige has with myself and the several others who have exposed his sordid operations over the past couple years, creates the perfect opportunity to get busy and build up the practice of Scientology across the world by independent and EMPATHIC folk (the only type of folk who can make it work to its full potential).  To such a degree that when the little dictator finally takes his eye off his appointed game for a moment, he will see the monopoly is no more and that the aims of Scientology might actually someday be achieved despite his best efforts.  Truly, thank you people.  You are doing the really important work individually and collectively.  And I do know that you are the folk that see eye to eye with me on the importance of absorbing wisdom outside of Scientology in order to  enhance your own appreciation of Scientology and to make the sharing of what you know of Scientology possible and valuable to others.

For those purporting to be hard core, loyal, and unwavering Scientologists who find attempts to share the wisdom of Scientology with the world and to understand and support efforts aligned with the overall aims of the subject so offensive, I recommend you contemplate the following provisions from the Code of a Scientologist, written by L. Ron Hubbard:

1. To keep Scientologists, the public and the press accurately informed concerning Scientology, the world of mental health and society.

2. To use the best I know of Scientology to the best of my ability to help my family, friends, groups and the world.

8. To support true humanitarian endeavors in the fields of human rights.

11. To actively decry the suppression of knowledge, wisdom, philosophy or data which would help mankind.

13. To help orgs and groups ally themselves with public groups.

14. To teach Scientology at a level it can be understood and used by the recipients.

15. To stress the freedom to use Scientology as a philosophy in all its applications and variations in the humanities.

16. To insist upon standard and unvaried Scientology as an applied activity in ethics, processing and administration in Scientology organizations.

17. To take my share of responsibility for the impact of Scientology upon the world.

19. To set an example of the effectiveness and wisdom of Scientology.

20. To make this world a saner, better place.

The world is leaving Scientology behind

Interesting how the more inclusive and empathic we become the more it seems to shake up and stir misemotion and divisivenes in some.  Aside from the trolls and OSA agents on our fringes, there are some who purport to be “independent Scientologists” who express a very narrow minded and intolerant view of those who do not march lock-step with the Scientology world view.

L Ron Hubbard was truly ahead of his time in many respects.  Unfortunately, for whatever reasons that could be debated for many lifetimes, his ideas were monopolized in a zealotous religious context that has resulted in Scientology being left in the dust by great minds.

The following video presentation is a great example.  The fantastic “recent” discovery outlined in its opening few minutes I just listened to LRH detail fifty-eight years ago in the Philadelphia Doctorate Course.  Of course, he did so using his own terms and nomenclature.  So, what is a Scientologist (of the church variety) programmed to do?   Sneer in contempt because the the author of the video speaks in terms of “hard wiring” and relates it to mental health concepts of brain development instead of the timeless, immortal mind as descibed by LRH.  Sit back, arms tightly folded in arrogance, asserting an air of haughty rightness, gnashing his teeth contemplating the hopeless wrongness of the author.  In protest and to solidify that rightness and other-wrongness, he maybe takes a second morgtage on his home to donate another twenty-five grand to IAS, thinking it will be used to bust a couple psychs somewhere.  And in the interim, those many intelligent and caring minds (of whatever sciences and disciplines) move ahead trying to solve the very same problems Hubbard tried to solve thinking, with a great deal of justification, Scientologists are insular cultists with nothing to contribute.

I say “wake up”, read, investigate, discover, communicate.

Integrate or disintegrate.
