Scientology Inc. Meltdown

It is ironic that David Miscavige’s best friend and ‘the most dedicated Scientologist’ he knows, Tom Cruise, has provided the tipping point event in the final meltdown of Scientology Inc.  What I find most disturbing about it is that Miscavige is doing all he can to bring everyone and everything down with him – from Tom Cruise to the subject of Scientology itself.

It is somewhat poetic justice that so many horror stories that Miscavige spent so many million suppressing over the past several years have suddenly been given wide currency.  It is unfortunate that there has not been time, nor the inclination on the part of media, to differentiate Miscavige’s cult and its conduct from the philosophy of Scientology.  But, Miscavige’s scorched earth, take no responsibility policy makes that differentiation process nearly impossible.

To understand the process, let’s take for example Miscavige’s response to the original Truth Rundown series by the Tampa Times.  Some former International Headquarters staff  attempted to check Miscavige from taking Scientology Inc. down in a Jonestown-like inferno by exposing dangerous, habitual conduct by Miscavige. Miscavige’s response was to accuse the accusers of perpetuating wholesale violence.  The result, two nights of ABC Nightline specials and a five part CNN AC 360 special on “Scientology: A History of Violence”, and an hour long BBC documentary all about a widespread ‘culture of violence’ at the highest ranks of ‘Scientology.’  It is the lying that perpetuates and exacerbates the situation and results in no effective differentiation being possible.  I remember predicting to Mike Rinder a month before Truth Rundown was published that until Miscavige takes a modicum of responsibility for the truth, the media exposes will become more frequent and more widespread.  Just look at how the Truth Rundown series has expanded since its 2009 inception.

Take the Cruise/Holmes debacle.  The absurd, pathetic blanket denial of the truth positions taken by Cruise and Miscavige are giving Scientology haters a seemingly unending  field day.

Look at the lengths Miscavige has gone in attempting to kill the story of the death of the son of Karen De La Carriere and Heber Jentzsch.   “OT VIII”, celebrity wanna be Stan Gerson has been used to send out a propaganda piece designed to divert Scientologists’ attention from the cover up of the ongoing Coroner’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding Alexander Jentzsch’s death, see Village Voice coverage.

My analysis of the ongoing meltdown of Scientology Inc is that the consistent, common denominator that is prolonging and exacerbating it, making rational discussion and differentiation near impossible, is the activity of corporate Scientology lying.  I place the responsibility for this dark chapter for Scientology squarely in the office of Chairman of the Board of Scientology Inc.   David Miscavige is the one who has created the current wholesale condemnation of the subject.  He has convinced Tom Cruise to eschew the advice I have been giving for three years here.  That advice is probably best summed up in an anonymous axiom I once quoted here:

If you tell the truth, it becomes a part of your past. If you lie, it becomes a part of your future.

The cummulative lies that Miscavige has directed Scientology Inc. and its corporate and celebrity spokespeople to vehemently pour forth for years are creating a dark future for Scientology.   Their lies give legs to stories seeking to shed light on corporate Scientology abuses, and their obfuscation of specific facts opens the door to lay the blame on ‘Scientology’ generally.  Their attack and lie reaction makes closure on any story about ‘Scientology’ impossible.  Ultimately, by their continuing dishonesty they are denying many people potential benefits from the subject in the future.

The only way this sick trend will ever begin to reverse is by the revelation of truth.   We ought not be discouraged in continuing to do what we can to purvey it.   But, those efforts will continue to be suppressed as long as the likes of Miscavige, Cruise and others blatantly continue to traffic in lies.

Make no mistake, Miscavige has proven over and over that he is incapable of honesty.   As I have spelled out before on this blog, Miscavige’s game is to make enemies for Scientology.  He will do all he can to keep the likes of Travolta and Cruise lying in public until they are so bloodied figuratively and confused that they lose the ability to differentiate the cause of their woes and become enemies of the subject of Scientology.  After all, Miscavige has accomplished that with dozens of former members – you can watch them all over the airwaves of late.  He has attempted to do the same with all of us.

Cruise, Travolta, and the less stellar soldiers of Scientology Inc can avoid falling into that dark, victim bunker.  All they need to do is heed the advice:

If you tell the truth, it becomes a part of your past. If you lie, it becomes a part of your future.

Whether the truth is in them remains to be seen.

Differentiating on Cruise, Miscavige and Scientology

I was interviewed by a very intelligent syndicated radio show host today named Michael Smerconish.   We wound up doing a little differentiating that might be of interest to you all.  You can tune in at the following link:

Scientology’s Heretic

This weekend’s UK Independent magazine cover story hits kinda close to home.  Warning: contains juvenile descriptions of OT III data.

UPDATE 4/7: GAWKER coverage.

I am informed that Scientology Inc is already spamming the Independent’s site with hate messages, including a full Freedom magazine article, in response.

Never a dull moment.

His Town by Jason Sheeler

The latest, and probably the last, chapter in the “Squirrel Buster” drama has been published in the February edition of Texas Monthly: the national magazine of Texas:  His Town, by Jason Sheeler.

The link will take you to an excerpt of the beginning of the article.  If you register below that (it is free), you can get access to the rest of the lengthy article.

For those who might have missed it, Corpus Christi Caller Times readers voted  the SQB saga as the story of the year, and it too did a wrap up article a couple of weeks ago, Squirrel Busters Leave Ingleside on the Bay.

God bless the Orrs, the Isbells and the rest of the good people of Ingleside on the Bay Texas.

‘Nuff said.

Ann Marie Tidman 1956-2011 – In Memoriam

Ann Marie Tidman Broeker Logan passed away on June 14, 2011. Annie was L Ron Hubbard’s closest friend and his exclusive direct personal and business aide during the last several years of his life.

Annie with L Ron Hubbard

Shortly before John Brousseau (JB) left the corporate church in April 2010 he was told that Annie had contracted lung cancer.  Since then a network of friends on the outside has sought to assist her knowing full well the suppression she was under that would cause such a scourge to invade her body.

Members of Annie’s family outside of the church phoned Annie and inquired about her health.  On the few occasions since mid 2010 that they managed to be put through Annie denied having any health problems.  Since June of 2011 no family has reached her, instead they were rebuffed by corporate Scientology staff saying she could not be reached. A family member last called for Annie at the Int base in Hemet California within the past two weeks.  The family member was told  that “Annie can’t talk to you now.”

Karen De La Carriere and her network of investigators searched records throughout California. On  13 January Karen found records confirming the death of Annie’s body, seven months ago. Apparently, Miscavige has covered up the death of Annie Tidman for more than half a year, after covering up her contraction of cancer for nearly two years.  Such callous, heinous disregard for life and the feelings of family and friends demonstrated by Miscavige’s “church” knows no comparison in a civilized society.  In this case it is all the more unconscionable.  No one served L Ron Hubbard for longer and with more dedication than Annie,  with the sole exception of LRH’s wife Mary Sue. And so there is little wonder why Miscavige prevented anyone from outside his cult from speaking to, let alone questioning Annie before her death.

Irrespective of what Annie may have been coerced to sign prior to her passing, I’ll always remember her for what she stood for twenty years ago. When I intercepted Annie during her 1992 attempt to reunite with her then-husband Jim Logan, we flew alone across the country overnight in John Travolta’s private jet.  Annie, in the inimitably vague manner in which such prohibited thoughts must be shared within corporate Scientology, communicated in so many words the following, she was returning to the Int Scientology base for one reason alone: to protect LRH’s legacy from David Miscavige.

Annie held on for nearly twenty years of living hell, attempting to out live Miscavige and restore some sort of order. For those who knew Annie and for those who understood her relationship with L Ron Hubbard, worry not.  I know for a fact that she is now doing ok.

Eulogies:

I have tender memories of Annie  ~~ the first messenger I audited on the Apollo ~~ I was struck by what a gentle soul she was, so kind, so warm and so darned likeable.
Annie grew up in the Sea Org and knew no other life as a 2nd generation Scientologist.  Her loyalty and dedication was fierce.  She like very few others  witnessed  and experienced from the inside how mad it had all become.   She could compare the THEN and NOW.  The LRH way  vs Miscavige brutalities. There is an ability of the body to fight cancer. A resilient spirit all set out to fight it will send cancer into remission but not so when one has a broken heart.Annie, you were one of the finest.  You touched the heart of everyone you encountered. Fly high with the Angels.
– Karen de la Carriere
———–
I first met Annie in 1973 when she was already a favorite Commodore’s Messenger on the Apollo. She epitomized  a true friend of LRH.  It was no fluke that she was the one who was in the right place at the right time and went off with LRH to become the person he relied on as his aide, confidante and friend in the twilight of his life. Annie was kind, smart and concerned for the well-being of others.  Power and status was meaningless to her.  What was important was her dedication to LRH and his legacy. If you searched the world to find someone who represented most closely the qualities he stood for – you would be hard pressed to find someone who filled the bill better than Annie. In the long history of Scientology that is still to be writ, Annie  will remain large and will never be forgotten, destined to be remembered as one of LRH’s truest friends.

I can think of no better words to conclude with here than those penned by L Ron Hubbard:

Our suff’ring is self-centered here, for we have lost, in truth,

the smile, the touch, the skill and happiness we gained from Annie

who gave to us from her past ability to live

and fare against the tides and storms of fate.

It’s true we’ve lost Annie’s shoulder up against the wheel

and lost as well her counsel and her strength

But lost them only for a while.

Goodbye, Annie.

Your people thank you for having lived

earth is better for your having lived

Men, women and children are alive today because you lived.

We thank you for coming to us.

We do not contest your right to go away.

Your debts are paid.

This chapter of thy life is shut.

Go now, dear Annie,

and live once more in happier time and place.

Thank you, Annie.

All now here lift up Your eyes

and say to Annie

Goodbye.

Perversion of the Arts

A society which in any way inhibits, suppresses or regiments its artists is a society not only low on the Tone Scale, but most certainly doomed.  A totalitarian state, following its usual line of perversion of truth, talks endlessly about its subsidization of the artist, but it subsidizes only those artists who are willing to work for the state exactly as the state dictates.  It regiments the artist and prescribes what he will do and what he will write and what he will think.  This is in direct controversion to the function of the artist in society.

– L. Ron Hubbard, Science of Survival

Beware, apparently in a last-ditch power drive, death merchant David Miscavige is making a desperate foray into music and film.

After single handedly crippling the beingnesses and careers of such erstwhile giants as Tom Cruise and John Travolta, Miscavige is seeking to pimp out the entire Scientology creative pool in a vain effort to make Scientology hip.

Here is the latest use to which he has put the “church’s” most sacred, “religious” retreat:

He wants his “celebs” to “blow away”, “inspire”, and “empower” as many bots as he can to populate Hollywood, I suppose, to re-grip a power base that has for years been fading fast.

To understand just how Miscavige will use any such increase in the ranks to accelerate the decline of the image of Scientology through the arts, please see the latest from Tony Ortega at Village Voice, Scientology Chillin’ With Hip Hop; A Video That Cannot Be Unseen.

I have never seen the genre so shamelessly whored out.   Not by the most brazen bling worshiping, gangster revering, drug promoting, mysogenist bad boys who nearly destroyed urban roots music and poetry.  As bad as their influence was, there is a big distinction between them and Miscavige.  The former, for the most part, were just trying to make enough cheddar to get out of the projects.  Miscavige wants ALL the dough and wants to drive everybody into the projects in order to get it.  Unfortunately for his empire, and fortunately for society at large, Miscavige’s enforced “art” is so repulsive it is probably the greatest guarantee he will never achieve his sordid aims.

SP Times Puts Ethics In on “church” of Scientology

Please see the latest stories in the Money Machine series in the St Petersburg Times.

Since I know most of the particulars of the stories covered, what I find most fascinating are the church’s responses.  Read the story on Roccio and Luis Garcia, Scientology Couple Who Gave $1.3: Church mission ‘has been corrupted.’

Here is the totality of the church’s response to their devastating story:

The church said it expelled Garcia and that he is an ally of high-profile church defector Marty Rathbun. Garcia insists he resigned.

What does that even mean to the public at large?

See the story of Carisa Marion, Shifty Business: Times Inquiry Finds Secret Debits, Deception After “Basics” Release.

The church is caught red-handed, with conviction-worthy evidence, of grand larceny and here is the totality of their defense:

The church characterized the unauthorized debits as a “misallocation of funds, not felony theft.” It said it considers parishioners’ pre-payments for services to be donations that become church property. So while diverting funds was not appropriate, it wasn’t theft.

“Indeed, in the United States, most parishioners claim tax deductions for their donations, indicating they have relinquished ownership of the funds,” the church said.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again here, David Miscavige has patently been engaged in systematic criminal behavior mis-using IRS tax exemption as a shield.   Also, the title of this post was in reference specifically to this story. Notice how Carisa’s trust funds were only returned to mitigate the damage this very series of articles might cause Miscavige’s criminal operations.  You can bet a number of atrocities will be ‘remedied’ by the church in response to this entire series – but only, only where Miscavige perceives that to do otherwise will be more painful than to return funds owed.

Finally, see the lead article in Monday’s edition, Pervasive Pitch: Scientology book and lecture series, ‘The Basics’, unleashes a frenzy.

After detailing a series of hard sell horrors, including with the use of false imprisonment, the Times’ recounts Roccio Garcia’s story of being reged for basics packages in the auditing room of her auditor by her auditor.   Please secure your beverage before reading the “church’s” response here:

The church denied that any of its auditors breached their ministerial duty.

It said church policy dating back to the 1950s requires auditors, as well as course room supervisors, to help parishioners get materials to further their spiritual pursuits.

“Ministers of every religion participate in disseminating the scripture and in fundraising,” the church said. “It is utterly offensive that the Times is questioning religious practice.”

No, what is utterly offensive is the cult of extortion and greed that David Miscavige operates in the name of Scientology.

Scientology’s New International Spokesperson

Mike Rinder is in Dublin Ireland today.   He was invited to Trinity College to speak on behalf of Scientology in a debate sponsored by the Philosophical Society.   The question: should Scientology be considered a legitimate religion?   Corporate Scientology chose not to participate. Mike represents Scientology (clearly of the Independent variety, as opposed to the Corporate version) as I post this.

Mike was greeted at the Dublin airport yesterday by seven Corporate Scientologists screaming in his face “YOU ARE NOT WELCOME IN IRELAND!”  The rabble probably represented half the total die-hard Corporate Scientology field in Ireland.   Irony or ironies, Mike Rinder came to Ireland for one purpose and one purpose alone, to defend their rights to believe and practice their religion; a chore that David Miscavige explicitly ran for cover from.

Here is Mike on national television broadcast last night in Ireland.  Note, despite Corporate Scientology’s best efforts to shut Mike up and prevent his appearance at Trinity College, you just can’t stop the shinin’.  My take: With Davis MIA and Miscavige AWOL, the applied religious philosophy of Scientology finally has a spokesperson Scientologists can be proud of. (note: the video goes up to about 17 minutes, then repeats itself without sound – no need to watch beyond the conclusion of Mike’s interview)

South Park: OSA Operative’s Role Confirmed

references:  South Park Part I, South Park Part II, South Park Part III

Thanks to the last investigative reporter in New York, confirmation that the actions outlined in the OSA (Corporate Scientology’s terror and harassment arm the Office of Special Affairs) memoranda I published in the above referenced posts have been confirmed by an independent witness.

Tony “the last investigative reporter in NY” Ortega of the Village Voice followed up on this particular OSA memorandum posted here three days ago:

Re: South Park

Eric Sherman (then-corporate Scientologist writer), who is good friends with Lloyd Kaufman (independent film maker), contacted him about South Park. Kaufman knows Trey Parker and Matt Stone and has been friends with them for years.

Ortega reported today on his interview with Kaufman, Ortega interview Kaufman.  Kaufman, clearly an unwitting target of OSA operative Eric Sherman’s advances, confirms that Sherman indeed pumped him for data on Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Kaufman was also asked about this OSA report I posted two days ago:

OSA Invest DR 3 May 06

SOUTH PARK: A PI met with a young filmmaker who recently graduated college (who was a student of Eric Sherman).  The filmmaker recently did an interview with Lloyd Kaufman, a friend of Trey Parker and Matt Stone.  He has agreed to assist to establish some comm lines in the South Park Studios and to try and get intelligence on their plans with regard to Scientology.  He is going to approach Kaufman to see if Kaufman can get him an introduction to Parker and Stone and either possibly get a job as an intern there or as a writer (he has seen every episode of South Park).

Since Kaufman said he has been approached by so many film students so can’t recall whether anyone connected to Sherman followed up with him, the need for Eric Sherman to step forward increases.  So far Sherman has remained true to my prediction in an earlier post, he’s gone AWOL.
