Founder of Scientology Net Nanny

Windhorse mentioned the infamous Scientology Inc Net Nanny software in a comment to the last post.   The software was presented as a template to set Scientologists up on the goofy, retro ‘Scientologist’ networking site.  But,  it was embedded too with a program that would block those Scientologists from finding out anything about David Miscavige or church of Scientology from the internet at large.   In the event anyone had any doubts about whose brilliant idea that was, I present David Miscavige’s order to Commanding Officer CMO INT (Marc Yager – roughly equivalent to CEO of church of Scientology International).

NET NANNY ORDER:

RE: GOLD ORG BOARD

[EXCERPT]

As for the Internet, I don’t know how a marketing unit could operate without the Internet these days. Everybody is into the security, which is fine. But they sell kiddy filters to stop naughty Gold staff members from going into porno sites. The other one is to just have an anti-entheta on Scientology filter. INCOMM could resolve that easily.

Scientology Inc. Internet Nannies

Scientology Inc. is providing a ‘service’ to assist corporate Scientologists ‘keep undesirables off your lines.’    It promises to ‘clean up’ everyone’s email lists so that there is no one on it that is not a fanatical, kool-aid drinking Miscavige devotee.   In true Orwellian style it is being offered by the “IHELP” branch of the corporation.  Here is the pitch being distributed from the management building at Hollywood Blvd and Ivar Ave:

Hello!

Please read the below and follow the directions.  This is an
important cycle of action and will help keep undesirables off your
lines as well.

Ml, CO I HELP West US

We are in the process of cleaning up all email lists to make
sure you are not inadvertently contacting some terminals who are no
longer in good standing with the Church. We have set up a line so
this can be done easily and a service will be provided for you to
keep all lists clean on a regular basis.

Follow the below guidelines to provide your email list for list
cleaning. Be sure to include any lists you use, e.g. your contact
list, email address book, email mailing lists, etc. There’s no
limit to the number of lists you can send in. The point is – send
them all!

If you are using Outlook, Thunderbird or another similar email
program to manage your lists, then these programs typically have an
“Export” function with which you can export your email list.
For example, in Outlook, select your Contact list, choose “File”,
then “Import & Export”. From the “Import & Export Wizard”, choose
the option to “Export a file”. Choose the file type called “Tab
Separated Values” (Windows). You will be prompted to choose a file
name. Save the exported data.
Otherwise, provide your email list in a comma-separated, tab-
separated or Excel spreadsheet file with one email address per line
in the file so that it can be processed easily.
If you have questions as to how to export your email list using the
software that you have, you can send an email to
addoservice@scientology.net for further instructions.
Send your lists to addoservice@scientology.net.
Let me know once you have sent in all your lists.

The Least of Miscavige’s Troubles

Tony Ortega reported on a number of Miscavige’s troubles on Sunday, see Village Voice Runnin’ Scared, including a new German documentary on OSA, Sudden Sam Domingo rocking the UK, and another Idle Org lie.

Those events – while indicative of the state of affairs in Scientology Inc – have not even caught the dictator’s attention.  He’s got dike leaks happening that he is rapidly running out of fingers with which to stanch them.

But, that is not the worst of it. Notwithstanding more than a little bit of effort lately to squeeze details of upcoming events out of me, Scientology Inc. remains ignorant about what is in store for the coming months.  Suffice it to say, Miscavige is facing a long, hot summer.

In the interim, I’ll repeat what is becoming somewhat of a mantra: the best way to contribute is to deliver.  LRH’s remedy to Black Dianetics is being realized. Be part of it.

Your Good Name Was Invoked in the Worst Kind Of Bullying

Tom,

As the recent email cycle below between a National Enquirer ‘journalist’ and myself clearly demonstrates, you have nothing to fear from me or the independent Scientologist community.  As a matter of well-demonstrated fact, we have your back.  As the referenced posts above clearly demonstrate you have every reason to continue to distance yourself from Miscavige (any perceived ‘leadership’ abilities notwithstanding) and corporate Scientology.  In case you hadn’t noticed I share your recently expressed claim of a distaste for bullies.  You too can do something effective about the one you and I helped to empower.

Hi Marty,
Thanks for your reply.
My editor however wants you to know that The Enquirer is prepared to pay you at least $20,000 [twenty thousand]
for some of the confessional stuff you got from Tom Cruise. In addition, we would promote your new book, and a major Enquirer cover story about it would likely bring a flood of offers from publishers. At the very least, will you grant me the opportunity to come and interview you in Texas about as much as you are prepared to say about Tom Cruise – including the same information you told The Independent.I look forward to hopefully coming out to see you.

Hi Marty,
I’m a reporter for The Enquirer in New York.
I got your e-mail address from Guy Adams, a journalist with The Independent in the UK.

I sent a letter to your ‘Bayshore Court, Ingleside on the Bay’ address via FedEx yesterday, which I hope that you have received.

However, in case you didn’t get that letter, I wanted to touch base with you to let you know we’re interested in your story about your time as Inspector General for the Church of Scientology.

We are truly fascinated by your time at the helm of this organization and would like to interview you specifically about what you may know about Tom Cruise and his secrets — as you performed auditing on him.

We would like to offer you compensation for an on-the-record interview about any of Tom’s secrets, which you, and no one else knows.

If you’d like, we can also work with you if you do not want to put your name to the story but will still give us some information on Tom Cruise.

Please feel free to get in contact with me by phone or e-mail: 646.935.6048 or  brobinson@amilink.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards.

Update: 5/18 a.m.: Fishbowl LA coverage

Idle Buffalo Scientology Organization

In November 2002 David Miscavige unveiled his first showcase Idle Org in Buffalo, New York.  Appended below is Miscavige’s order issued just prior to Buffalo’s grand opening to ensure the place would be crawling with public and expanding for the whole world to see.

Did anybody from Int ever notice the ‘hey-you’ character of most of Miscavige’s orders?  Notice the recipient (Int Landlord) of this order. He might as well have issued the order to the groundskeeper at Celebrity Center.  See after the Miscavige order evidence of the result. Nearly ten years later, a photo of the Buffalo Idle org taken just last week by an indie who happened to be visiting that city and stopped by to check out the original showcase.

RE: BUFFALO ORG

Add to that Internet marketing which would then be flooded right down to the local orgs resulting in central marketing campaigns, collecting up names at CMU, which are then smashed down the lines to all orgs while local orgs do their own central marketing and start driving people in on their basic services.

UPDATE 5/16:  See this interesting, and confirmatory, posting on an unrelated blog about the Buffalo organization posted as a comment to this blog post: Chris and Luke at Buffalo Org.

More Miscavige on Internet – Stopping Scientology

Some who have not experienced it may have trouble believing it, but I am sure those who have experienced it will confirm my interpretation of what follows.  Here’s an order from David Miscavige’s office to ED Int (Executive Director International) and Exec Ints (whatever members of ED Int’s team who had the misfortune of listening to the rant live).  The order is excerpted, as is Miscavige’s standard operating procedure, from an audio tape that records every insanity that issues from his mouth morning, noon and night while he stomps around the International headquarters of Scientology Inc.  ED Int and his Exec Ints then must report written compliance, with evidence, to the order so issued.   On average, ED Int  receives dozens of such orders on any given day – as do many others.  When Miscavige refers to the ED Int thinking  ‘And then it becomes, “oh, you’re stopping it”’ Miscavige – the perceptive one he is – is accurately reporting on exactly what ED INT and the Exec Ints were thinking at that very moment.  He knows that because it is a daily recurring thought of all members of Scientology Inc international management.  They think it because this order here represents Miscavige’s daily op.  He bats back violently at anything that is originated to him – including compliance to the insane orders he issues and even the programs that attempt to execute his dictates.

The net result is, everything he tells anyone to do never gets done because Miscavige won’t ever approve the program that is proposed to get done what he has ordered to get done.  It is a vicious cycle.  It is like the movie Groundhogs Day played over and over and over,  day in and day out, year after year at Miscavige’s cult camp.  Except his version of Groundhogs Day is not a comedy, it is the most gruesome horror picture imaginable.  Miscavige very often tells International staff members and execs “oh, and you are thinking COB is stopping this” (after he sits on a submission for several months, then verbally lambasts the submitter with some incomprehensible cross order of himself) I suppose in order to make the person feel guilty and wrong and ultimately  stupid for perceiving the truth. More accurately, the op Miscavige runs day in an day out is making people believe they are incapable of understanding that which is incomprehensible (his orders) in the first place.  L. Ron Hubbard described the op in the lecture The Freedoms  of Clear, 4 July, 1958:

“You know how people convince people they’re ignorant?  They take something which cannot be understood and they say, ‘You stupid jerk. Why don’t you understand this…’

“…Don’t ever make the mistake of believing that you are ignorant simply because you do not understand the incomprehensible.  Because that’s the oldest trick in the universe.”

RE: SH SIZE ORGS & 339R

And on Marketing, they keep coming up with a million other things, because the guy doesn’t understand it.  It’s, get the Internet done, goes out and talk to Sky Dayton, comes up with a bunch of ideas, “yeah, we’ll send it out to the org.  Hey, any dissemination is better than none.”  No it’s not.  How many more people am I willing to blow out of Scientology.  And by the way, put that aside, why didn’t he program it in and do any part of his job?  Tell the org staff, “Here’s how you answer.”  Get out a basic program on this?  Why not?  Why put it out without that?  Oh, I wanted to wait 3 years to get out his program and they’re just going to get a computer manual.  And then it becomes, “oh, you’re stopping it.”  No actually, I’m the one who’s been pounding to get it done and get a standard line in.  So what were we about to put out?  [CallInExecInt: A line that’s not complete.]  You don’t get it yet.  Your respect for org policy and what happens down there is not accurate or you would literally feel your stomach twisting right now. And to you, it’s glib.  You don’t really live and breathe this purpose and know what’s happening.  You should though.

Our things are supposed to forward it.  And the reason it doesn’t make sense, because you don’t know what the basic purpose is.  You go, “Hey, I know how to forward that great idea.  I know how to really get that book line in.”  What do I get from Marketing?  “Yeah, we’ve got an Internet there on Scientology on-line, we’ll have a way where they can log in and we can 8C them through the books.”  Now, I haven’t seen the 8C in one of those issues.  In fact, what I’m trying to do is get them to want them.  What did it turn into instead?  “8C them.”

The only place that thinks they need 8C is here.  I plan on getting people and saying, there it is and they go, “whoa, I want it.”  But nobody there would even push it and 8C them anyway.  You already know that.  That’s what’s so stupid.  Marketing—you’re supposed to create want.

David Miscavige on the Internet and Scientology

Attached is but one of dozens of utterances of David Miscavige that are recorded and  excerpted by his staff and delivered to International Scientology Inc Management as orders on a daily basis.  As we have covered before, Miscavige orders on any given subject never seem to end and more often than not conflict with previous Miscavige orders.  They also more often than not conflict with L. Ron Hubbard policy.  The Miscavige orders take precedence over L. Ron Hubbard policy – and the standing order that all Miscavige orders ,such as the one below, must be word cleared method 9 (a method implanting the message into the head of the reader) by the recipients guarantees that. The net result is nothing gets done – except apparently alteration of L. Ron Hubbard’s words and the six annual events Miscavige lies and preens at.  Wanna know why the church of Scientology will not catch up with the times and make L. Ron Hubbard tech available to the world?   This order from Miscavige will give you some insight.

Internet:  You didn’t give me a report on what all is going to be on this Internet.  I need to know exactly what it is since I don’t know that you have to launch every single part of it, including the Source Library.  I am curious what’s on there and I really don’t want something on there that’s going to be outdated in short order.  For instance, there are 80 PLs to be fixed.  There are books being corrected.  So preempting all those books by putting all the text on the Internet could really be a disaster.  Further, there’s a bunch of Internet cronies who like taking things out of context and you are going to give them easy picking to be able to do this.  To tell me that they won’t be able to get access to the Internet tells me nothing.  Because I don’t know how a Scientologist is going to get an access to it.  In fact, it seems like the thing should be IAS required membership, which would both help get memberships and would get the correct access.  I don’t know that the plan is on it, which is not unusual.  I had a whole comm cycle with Sky Dayton and did not hear a single word from anybody in Int following that letter which was cc’ed to everybody.

RE: MARCH 13TH EVENT
THE RE LINE MEANS THAT EVEN THOUGH HE IS GIVING LIP SERVICE TO GETTING SOURCE MATERIAL OUT ON THE INTERNET,IT REALLY – AS ALWAYS – IS ABOUT THE EVENT – WHAT AM I GOING TO LIE TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT THIS TIME?
Internet: You didn’t give me a report on what all is going to be on this Internet.
THIS IS PURELY ASS COVERING. HE HAS ALREADY DICTATED EXACTLY WHAT IS TO BE DONE ON “THIS INTERNET” PROJECT TO USE AT THE EVENT. AND THEY HAVE REPORTED BACK COMPLIANCE THAT THE DRONES HAVE BEEN PUTTING IT TOGETHER AROUND THE CLOCK.
I need to know exactly what it is since I don’t know that you have to launch every single part of it, including the Source Library.
THIS IS ASS COVERING TO INFER THAT HE DIDN’T ORDER IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, SO HE CAN BEAT, PUNCH, SLAP AND KICK SOME ‘KNUCKLEHEAD’ IN THE FUTURE IF IT FLAPS.
I am curious what’s on there and I really don’t want something on there that’s going to be outdated in short order. For instance, there are 80 PLs to be fixed.
I AM STILL FINE TUNING MY COVERT EDITS OF L RON HUBBARD TO FIT MY PREDECLICTIONS.
There are books being corrected.
BECAUSE L RON HUBBARD WAS SO UNLCEAR ABOUT THINGS, I AM SADDLED WITH CORRETING HIM.
So preempting all those books by putting all the text on the Internet could really be a disaster.
MORE ASS COVERING, I DON’T WANT SOURCE GETTING OUT TO ANYBODY, AND HERE IS MY LATEST JUSTIFICATION – I MIGHT CHANGE IT.
Further, there’s a bunch of Internet cronies (HE CONSIDERS ANYONE ON THE NET WHO CRITICIZES HIM AS PART OF SOME CREW OF DO NOTHINGS WHO LIVE BEHIND COMPUTERS – “CRONIES” IS JUST A PLAIN MISUSE OF THE WORD.)
who like taking things out of context and you are going to give them easy picking to be able to do this. YOU CAN’T POSSIBLY PUT SOURCE ON THE INTERNET – HUBBARD IS SO EASY TO MAKE FUN OF (AGAIN ASS COVERING FOR ” THE HELL WITH GETTING LRH TECH OUT AND AVAILABLE”
To tell me that they won’t be able to get access to the Internet tells me nothing. Because I don’t know how a Scientologist is going to get an access to it.
WE ONLY WANT CARD CARRYING ROBOTS TO HAVE ACCESSS TO LRH.
In fact, it seems like the thing should be IAS required membership, which would both help get memberships and would get the correct access.
BUT, ME BEING THE ONLY GUY WHO BRINGS MONEY IN AROUND HERE, YET AGAIN HAS COME UP WITH A BRIGHT IDEA. HOLD ACCESS TO SOURCE AND ONLY DISPENSE – NOT JUST FOR THE COST OF PUTTING IT THERE, AND A LITTLE PROFIT – NO, LET’S MAKE PEOPLE PAY ABSURD AMOUNTS LIKE PATRON GLITTERING FAIRY WITH ANGEL DUSTED TONGUES STATUS AT, SAY, A COUPLE MILL A POP.
I don’t know that the plan is on it, which is not unusual.
OF COURSE NOT, IT WAS MY PLAN IN THE FIRST PLACE AND I HAVE CROSS ORDERED AND ALTER IT SO MANY TIMES,I CAN’T KEEP TRACK OF MYSELF.
I had a whole comm cycle with Sky Dayton and did not hear a single word from anybody in Int following that letter which was cc’ed to everybody.
SKY DAYTON PROTESTED THAT THE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY BECOMING SYNONYMOUS IN THE PUBLIC MIND WITH SUPPRESSION OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION THROUGH THE NET WAS NOT ONLY RUINING HIS OWN REPUTATION, IT WAS DESTROYING SCIENTOLOGY. OF COURSE, I BLAMED IT ALL ON YOUR IDIOTS AND TOLD HIM I WAS ALL FOR FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND GETTING LRH OUT. I WROTE HIM A FLOWERY LETTER SAYING AS MUCH. I COPIED YOU ON IT – EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOTHING BUT MEANINGLESS PLATITUDES STROKING THE GUY (BECAUSE I AM THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO CAN STROKE WORTH A DAMN – VIOLENTLY OR LOVINGLY) – SO THAT I COULD AGAIN BLAME MY PRE-HISTORIC AND MEDEIVAL IDEAS ABOUT COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES ON YOU SORRY SAPS.

Why Cold Steel and Scientology Don’t Mix

Over the past three decades Scientology Inc head David Miscavige has proudly and increasingly implemented what he calls the ‘ruthless, cold, chrome steel’ personality ‘necessary’ to manage Scientology.   It started with Religious Technology Center (RTC, the top of Scientology Inc’s chain of command).  Cold, chrome steel has made its way all the way down to local churches of Scientology.  More and more cops to prevent more and more potential ‘crime.’  More and more cops policing more and more dynamics. Public Scientologists taking on the valence of cops, confronting and informing upon friends and family members for creating an independent thought, for example. Look at the end product.

L. Ron Hubbard tells us why this has had such disastrous effects, and why the independent Scientologists movement has thrived and can be counted upon to continue to do so.  Fittingly, from the 4th of July, 1958 in a lecture titled The Fact of Clearing:

Man definitely has a right to certain happiness.  He isn’t going to experience that right under the circumstances of his own past. He can’t.  He’s too wound up in this and that. It’s not the mores of the society that prevent him .  It’s all of these delusions about how bad the other fellow is.

You have police because other people are so bad. I investigated police one time. I became a cop. That’s the best way to investigate something — become it for a while, you know?  You can go too far with that sort of thing. But where do we have, in essence here, a cave-in of the society?  What could cave the society in?

Well, all you’d have to do is have a police force and a society would start caving in.  Why? The police force constitutes a constant reminder that men are evil, which is a constant reminder that we must agree with these evil men.  Do you see how this would work?  Neat little trick.

Now, that doesn’t say that we are so starry-eyed as to believe that at this time we could dispense with all police. Or could we?

Now, you have to make up your mind which way you’re going to go with a society if you’re thinking about a new society of one kind or the another. And if you say, “Well, this society would be totally unregulated,” then we would be proposing an anarchy.  And all the anarchists tell us that the only way a society would work as a total freedom without government would be if everyone in it were perfect.

Well, I don’t know whether we propose — when we talk about a cleared society — whether we propose or not to have an anarchy.  That’s beside the point.  That’s up to the people who get cleared.  But I don’t think you’d wind up with an anarchy. I think you’d wind up with a much finer level of agreement and cooperation because I think you’d then be able to realize the rest of the dynamics.

The cops are there only because the rest of the dynamics aren’t there! So, if you put those back into society, then you’d get a society.

Anatoly Sharansky’s Final Statement

The following might resonate with some who have experienced the corporate Scientology culture of David Miscavige.

Anatoly Sharansky’s Final Statement in the Soviet Court
presented before being sentenced on trumped-up charges for treason and espionage, July 14, 1978

(Sharansky addressed his first remarks to those who were not in the courtroom, his wife Avital who emigrated to Israel and the Jewish people):

“During my interrogation the chief investigators threatened me that I might be executed by a firing squad, or imprisoned for at least fifteen years.  But if I agreed to cooperate with the investigation for the purpose of destroying the Jewish emigration movement, they promised me freedom and a quick reunion with my wife.

“Five years ago, I submitted my application for exit to Israel. Now I am further than ever from my dream.  It would seem to be cause for regret.  But it is absolutely the other way around.  I am happy.  I am happy that I lived honorably, at peace with my conscience.  I never compromised my soul, even under the threat of death.

“I am happy that I helped people.  I am proud that I knew and worked with such honorable, brave and courageous people as Sakharov, Orlov, Ginzburg, who are carrying on the traditions of the Russian intelligentsia in defending human rights in the Soviet Union.  I am fortunate to have been witness to the process of the liberation of Jews of the USSR.

“I hope that the absurd accusation against me and the entire Jewish emigration movement will not hinder the liberation of my people.  My near ones and friends know how I wanted to exchange activity in the emigration movement for a life with my wife Avital, in Israel.

“For more than two thousand years the Jewish people, my people, have been dispersed.  But wherever they are, wherever Jews are found, every year they have repeated: ‘Next year in Jerusalem.‘  Now, when I am further than ever from my people, from Avital, facing many arduous years of imprisonment, I say, turning to my people, my Avital,  ‘Next year in Jerusalem.’

“Now I turn to you, the court, who were required to confirm a predetermined sentence: To you I have nothing to say.”

Rupert Murdoch and David Miscavige

Haydn James submitted an article published below that draws many parallels between media king Rupert Murdoch and squirrel king David Miscavige.

Here are a few things to take into consideration when reading Haydn’s piece.

Rupert Murdoch cut his teeth on bashing L Ron Hubbard and Scientology during the sixties in Australia.

Murdoch’s US (most notably Fox News) and UK media holdings have uniquely steered clear of the dozens of breaking stories about David Miscavige’s abuse that have run in most other media since the Tampa Times landmark 2009 series The Truth Rundown.

For a while I considered that might be due to something I was working on shortly before leaving Scientology Inc in 2004.  That was working with David Miscavige and Tom Cruise to recruit Australian media magnate heir James Packer.  Tom had reported that Jamie grew up with one of Murdoch’s sons – same exclusive schools, clubs, etc – and that Murdoch treated Jamie like a son. Miscavige relieved me of all other post duties to concentrate on working with Tom to recruit Jamie. The plan was to help Jamie with Scientology and to influence Jamie to win over Murdoch for Scientology in exchange (of course never disclosing the terms to Jamie).  I was involved in the help side of it and that was rewarding. But I left before the other side of the hidden bargain was carried out by Miscavige and Cruise.

Whether that ever came to fruition may be of no import.  Reading Haydn’s post made me consider the Occam’s razor approach. Perhaps a more likely explanation is that Rupert Murdoch and David Miscavige are simply peas from the same L Ron Hubbard hating pod.

Peas in a Pod

by Haydn James

Rupert Murdoch’s plight gives an interesting comparative and some insight into the world and precarious position of David Miscavige.

Murdoch, born Australian but now an American citizen, controls the second largest but arguably the most influential media empire in the world.  500 companies in 50 countries which includes The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Fox Television and Twentieth Century Fox studios in the USA, four newspapers including The London Times and the hugely influential Sun as well as television in the UK. He is ranked as the 13th most powerful man in the world. For decades he has been a king maker, deciding and influencing through the coordinated policy of his media outlets who should assume political power in a number of countries, particularly Australia and England but he is not without major influence in the USA. He even took on and backed down the BBC, using his political influence to extract revenge for their opposition to his activities, arranging for their annual budget to be cut by sixteen percent.

If there is a major global elitist conspiracy of greed, Murdoch is a card carrying member. And I note that he acquired The News of the World newspaper in 1968, in England, just in time for its three year onslaught against Scientology and LRH — shades of Ron’s Journal 67.

So I have been watching with fascination as, expose by expose, piece by piece, the depth of corruption on the part of Murdoch’s empire was brought to light in the UK and USA. And I have noticed that the similarities and parallels with Miscavige are unmistakable.

Murdoch bought political influence for protection and to strengthen his media stranglehold, going so far as to create a media monopoly. It used to be illegal in England for one person to own and influence more than one major media outlet but Murdoch was able to change all that. And he became an American citizen so he could acquire and own media companies in the USA.  Like David Miscavige, Rupert Murdoch created, ostensibly, an unassailable position in the world in which he ruled. People feared him and most lacked the courage to speak out against his bullying and abuses. But Murdoch’s vast political and media influence to the contrary, he proved that no position is totally safe or secure.

Just like Miscavige, Murdoch ran his personal empire as a dictator, doing only what he saw fit and without regard to common decency or law. The sheer degree of power he wielded went to his head. He thought he was above the law. And when it looked like the truth about his operations might come to light, Murdoch used the same play book of dirty tricks that Miscavige used in attempting to silence those speaking out against him.

PIs were used by Murdoch to openly follow and harass critics, even British members of parliament. Dossiers were compiled on anyone who was or might become an enemy. Any dirt they could find was used to force critics into silence or ruin their reputation via whisper campaigns. High priced lawyers were used to threaten and shudder individuals, other newspapers, companies and lawyers into silence and if that failed they “settled” (with huge pay offs) those who could not be intimidated. All very familiar to independent Scientologists.

Like David Miscavige, Murdoch was mercilessly over the top when it came to running his empire. Journalists working for one of Murdoch’s newspapers were compelled to come up with twelve major scoops (good news stories) per year or they were summarily fired. As anyone who has worked in Scientology knows, that kind of fear and duress does not result in anything good. Murdoch’s empire was no different. In turn, the journalists put pressure on the private investigators they used to dig up dirt and stories. Desperate to keep their lucrative jobs, the PIs hacked and tapped the phones and media devices of thousands of people, including celebrities, and they paid members of the police (Metropolitan Police – Scotland Yard) to retrieve and pass along information they needed. The lines into the police were extensive. Mind you, I will say this, if Murdoch’s PIs felt under pressure to produce the goods they should try working for Miscavige – or maybe they have.
From the moment a tiny fraction of the truth leaked out the result was inevitable. Despite the fact that some members of the government, police and Murdoch did all they could to cover it up, the truth eventually broke wide open. One way or another, the truth came out. In another theme familiar to Independent Scientologists, when few dared to carry the story, a single non-Murdoch newspaper in the USA picked up the ball and ran with it which emboldened other media outlets around the world.

In response to the worldwide bad press, politicians in England turned on Murdoch, blocking his expansion moves. The infamous, LRH attacking, News of the World which had been in existence for many decades was shut down and closed and a number of Murdoch’s staff have been arrested. There are three ongoing criminal investigations in the UK, FBI investigations in the USA, countless civil lawsuits for invasion of privacy as well as parliamentary investigations into the actions of Murdoch, his family and his empire. The fallout is still raining down and will for some years.

But even Murdoch has a couple of advantages over David Miscavige. Firstly, he can claim, with at least a little credibility, that his empire is so vast he could not monitor it all. David (I micro manage everything) Miscavige cannot. Secondly, Murdoch has gone to great lengths to make and publish apologies for his offences, something Miscavige will never do.

Three additional observations come out of what is happening to Murdoch.

1. In the modern world, no amount of power, political or media influence can prevent the truth from coming out.

2. Dirty tricks only hasten the process.
