A very important letter – Part C (of four parts)

Part A of the letter can be found at https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/a-very-important-letter/

Part B of the letter can found at https://markrathbun.wordpress.com/2009/10/19/a-very-important-letter-part-b/

A very important letter part C:

And that is when I read the recent articles in the St. Petersburg Times.  They left me dumbstruck and horrified.

These were not the claims made by “outsiders” looking to dig up dirt against us. These accusations were made by top international executives who had devoted most of their lives to the church. Say what you will about them now, these were staunch defenders of the church, including Mike Rinder, the church’s official spokesman for 20 years!

Tommy, if only a fraction of these accusations are true, we are talking about serious, indefensible human and civil rights violations. It is still hard for me to believe.  But given how many former top-level executives have said these things are true, it is hard to believe it is all lies.

And when I pictured you assuring me that it is all lies, that this is nothing but an unfounded and vicious attack by a group of disgruntled employees, I am afraid that I saw the same face that looked in the camera and denied the policy of disconnection. I heard the same voice that professed outrage at our support of Proposition 8, who promised to correct it, and did nothing.

I carefully read all of your rebuttals, I watched every video where you presented the church’s position, I listened to all your arguments – ever word. I wish I could tell you that they rang true. But they didn’t.

I was left feeling outraged, and frankly, more than a little stupid.

And though it may seem small by comparison, I was truly disturbed to see you provide private details from confessionals to the press in an attempt to embarrass and discredit the executives who spoke out. A priest would go to jail before revealing secrets from the confessional, no matter what the cost to himself or his church. That’s the kind of integrity I thought we had, but obviously the standard in this church is far lower – the public relations representative can reveal secrets to the press if the management feels justified. You even felt free to publish secrets from the confessional in Freedom Magazine – you just stopped short of labeling them as such, probably because you knew Scientologists would be horrified, knowing you so easily broke a sacred vow of trust with your parishioners.

How dare you use private information in order to label someone an “adulteress?” You took Amy Scobee’s most intimate admissions about her sexual life and passed them onto the press and then smeared them all over the pages your newsletter! I do not know the woman, but no matter what she said or did, this is the woman who joined the Sea Org at 16! She ran the entire celebrity center network, and was a loyal senior executive of the church for what, 20 years? You want to rebut her accusations, do it, and do it in the strongest terms possible – but that kind of character assassination is unconscionable.

So, I am now painfully aware that you might see this an attack and just as easily use things I have confessed over the years to smear my name. Well, luckily I have never held myself up to be anyone’s role model.

  1. I don’t know if the author knows yet about the publication of this letter. But I wish them to know how much I appreciate them writing to Tommy Davis in such clear terms. If they are a public figure, then the kudos is magnified.

When did this get sent, Marty?

  2. THIS is a Scientologist who is still worthy of the name. He has integrity and honor. Props to him whoever he is.

And in one respect, Tommy is even worse than he knows: I have known Amy for years. She never committed adultery in the first place.

Hats off to the author of this letter.

  3. WOW! Whoever this is I swear was reading my mind. I wanted to say all of this to Tommy but I probably would have lost my temper doing so and really wouldn’t have been able to say it so eloquently. Thanks so much for posting this and right on to the author!

  4. Well said! I support your view.

  5. I hope who ever wrote this is not some small potatoes scientology public like me, but someone who Tommy Davis and David Miscavage can’t ignore. Who ever you are, thank you. Thank you for using your comm lines, something of value to you, to do something for us.

Tommy Davis, David Miscavage, spend some time in reflection. The future you enjoy or bemoan depends on it. You do have choices. But hard ones.

  6. I hope we get to find out who this is. I hate mysteries! 🙂

  7. I forwarded the first part of this letter (the part about San Diego Org publicly supporting Prop 8) to an onlines friend who was active in Prop 8 opposition in CA, and he says he doesn’t believe that SD Org would ever be allowed to support it.

Does the author of the letter (or anyone else) have any documented evidence that SD Org actually did this?

    Thanks.

  8. I admire the author of this comm. You have integrity and self-respect and you are not PTS to DM, but Tommy is. Thank you for speaking out!

Can’t wait for the last part of this letter!

  9. Thank you Mr. Author. Your letter is brilliant.

  10. A report received indicates that this is from a very well known Scientologist.

  11. Margaret,
The list of supporters can be found here:

See the bottom section where it lists the various churches that donated.

  12. Another thing about Tommy’s rebuttal: when he said he had affidavit’s proving that one person at Int had beaten up 20 others a total of 50 times I immediately thought of the policy letter about the out-ethics group: where the ethical group wouldn’t let someone stick pins in Joe. It only took a fraction of a second for me to think, “Int Mgmt is an out-ethics group!” This is what started me looking. Thanks, Tommy, you did a great job of waking me up!

  13. Why is anyone trying to reason with Tommy? Do you really think that’s the guy that’s going to wake up. He’s been lying for years.

  14. I love the smell of cognitions in the morning.

    Smells like…………truth, honesty and integrity.

  15. Marty I watched you on Nightline tonight and I gotta say that you came across as very human and likable, while Tommy looked like a slick PR flak for a politician , lying through his teeth.

Wow I didn’t know you could see your kid or spouse once a week while on the RPF! How magnanimous! (please note the sarcasm)

Anyway, this letter says quite a lot in very few words and displays the same amount of outrage I had when I read that information from your “Confidential Confessional Formulary, Priest Penitent Privileged Files” were being used in Miscavigology’s Character Wet Work op which basically proves they’ve got no character, no integrity and no balls.

Me I’d go to prison before I revealed the secrets of my preclears. Seems Davy and his bunch have never read the Auditors Code or the Code of a Scientologist, especially that part about keeping the press accurately informed.

Personally, I was hoping they would have brought that dog out that you guys mentioned. Maybe it might have displayed its inherent abilities of astute observation by pissing on Tommy’s leg.

  16. Just saw some of the videos on the truth rundown. I didn’t know there was all those video’s, I’d only seen some on youtube with Marty then those were pulled. Anyways, if anyone else hasn’t seen them all, go to Tampabay.com. Amy, Steve and Marty’s I’ve seen and they’re are very good.

  17. This should probably be in the Nightline article comment section, but I’m putting it here. In Bruce Hines’ interview he mentioned being asked for False Purposes and Destructive Intentions that HE DIDN’T HAVE.

A recent short description of what this is, reverse Scientology, has been put out by Pierre Ethier.

This is the use of the exact opposite of the materials of the Introspection Rundown, to purposely introspect beings. Under DM’s reich, when one falls afoul of him or his dupes, they will end up in interviews, the RPF, ‘on the decks’ and will be subject to reverse Scientology and introspective questions and under that duress be forced to find ‘withholds’ ‘overts’ ‘intentions’ that in fact do not exist. This perversion of the workable tech of Scientology results in upsets, debilitation, and a withheld reach – the diametric opposite of Scientology when used correctly.

I urge readers who have found themselves introverted, introspected and wondering whether they are ‘SP’ to check out the materials and the rundown for Introspection. If it’s happened to you, I hope you can spot it for what it is: reverse Scientology, and free yourself from these wrong indications and falsities.

  18. Since the SO was referred to as ex employees or disgruntled employees by Tommy Davis there should be a class action suit filed for back wages. Hell even at minimum wage of $5.50 per hour (which it is higher) that is 220.00 per week times 52 weeks is $11,440.00 per year and then there is overtime.

I asked some of my neighbors who saw Nightline what they thought and their reaction was “Why would anyone join a group like that?” For those still in that have any perceptions at all hopefully they will find the ring of truth because of their own experiences.

To the author of the letter above written to Tommy Davis, it was well written and speaks the truth. I truly don’t believe Tommy knows what the truth is. He appears to be fighting for something he can grab onto. With him it is deny deny deny.

  19. This movie reminds me of DM. his dog gets saluted also. Perhaps DM saw this movie and went into the valence of Gene Hackman

Crimson Tide (1995)With Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Matt Craven. … Top News; Movie News; TV News; Celebrity News; Featured News; IMDb Snapshot …

  20. Great job on Nightline Marty!

That must take a lot of confront going there and fighting the out-ethics mano y mano.

You are the best Ethics Officer that I have ever encountered. A true protector of the group.

    ARC,
    Alex

  21. Now is not the time to pull punches, I sent a testimonial of my experiences with DM and his policies to Nightline on their website anyone reading this must do this TODAY! We need to back up Marty, Amy, Mike and Tom now.

  22. Why can’t CSI used their tons of money to hire a decent spokesperson??! This is really kind of sad. In response to “you all sound crazy saluting a dog” Tommy’s come back is “we should bring that dog in here and see if it barks at you”.

Sure, DM might have had a good laugh over that, his dog barking at Mr. Reporter who is suppressive, but to the general public, that has to be the weirdest response.

  23. That dog dressed in Sea Org Uniform insults any true Sea Org member on the planet.

  24. For those of you who don’t know who Paul Haggis (the author) is, he’s HUGE! and I’ve always been a big fan of his work. Here is his IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0353673/
This is a great day! Thank you for posting this!

  25. I am an atheist, but I pray to God that Paul Haggis and other talented movie people, do a exposure movie of life at the Int Base.

Start with the incidents of DM spitting on John Aczel and Roger Barnes, go through the decades of abuses, including the moment that Jesse Prince stood with two loaded weapons asking DM what DM wanted to do next, and go through these final dozen years of abusive outrageous behavior.

I wish the Hollywood crowd follows Paul Haggis’ good character and together they do some Hollywood movie on this period of top ranks very irreligious behind the scenes abuses, and how this abusive atmosphere came about.

God, I’d like to see the Hollywood celebrity class who’ve been caught up in Scientology turn and do a drama expose on film of Int Base life.

  26. Funny enough, LRH mentions there are not Dog Pcs, I guess DM has got that wrong too.

  27. Paul… you are our hero….
thank you for speaking out.. it gives us hope we will be reunited with our daughters very soon..

    all out love
    nate and mona

  28. Tomi, Calamity DM is going to make you suffer now.

  29. Amy, I’m so sorry you had to do the Purif for 8 mos as punishment, I’m horrified! But I believe it amongst all the other horrifying stories, only because of my own personal horrifying experience that kept me hiding away for 11 years in a semi active state “of F/L debt status” to save me.
